Factory Reset Old Nano On PC (Was Formatted On Mac)

I borrowed a friend's old Nano -- I believe it is a 2nd gen. (Long and skinny design and, I'm pretty sure, no video).
I used it with my Mac and my iTunes.  And I must have done some sort of reset so that iPod worked on my Mac and played my music.
I returned the iPod to him and suggested he would need to restore / reformat / ... to make the iPod work with his iTunes on his PC.  No suggestion of playing my songs or the stuff I would have loaded on the iPod. He wants a clean reset and wants to load his music from his iTunes on his PC.
He can't get it to work.  The Nano is charged up but when he plugs it into his PC it doesn't show up.
I'm flying a bit blind here -- not sure what generation of Nano, what iTunes nor what version of Windows.
Any advice what I should suggest he do (or I should do the next time I'm at his computer)?
Would it do any good to do a factory reset using my Mac?
Can the Genius Bar people do the reset?
...Thanks

Yes.  The Genius Bar can help you set it back to format it needs to be in.
Has your friend tried resetting the nano with it connected to his PC?  To do this, press and hold both the Select and Menu buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.
If you are up for the job, see this article for information on how to format the iPod as FAT32 using Disk Utility on your Mac.

Alright, so my ipod touch stopped working, but I can still connect it to itunes, but my friend gave me his old nano. I was wondering how I could get my more updated songs from my ipod touch onto th nano. My laptop crashed whitch had all my new music, and im afraid if I sync my Ipod touch to the desktop with all my old songs, ill lose all my newer ones which I dont want to happen because I want them on my nano. Im sorry for the confusing topic im just so lost.

All you have to do is connect your new iPod to the computer that has the library for your old iPod.
When iTunes comes up, click on your new iPod under Devices.
At the top of the Summary Page click Music.
    Click Synch Music.
Do the same thing for Photos, Apps, Movies and so on...
    Now just synch the iPod.

  • Factory reset old LG android phone?

I have a dilemma. I bought the new Samsung Galaxy S5 and have no use of my old LG Lucid smartphone.
I went on setting and factory reset my LG phone.
I still would like to use my LG phone, not really use it, but more of being able to access the programs like camera and wifi.
After resetting it, it turned on and went to the setup wizard. It was mentioning something about activation.
I was just wondering if this will activate my old phone? and deactivate my new phone? I am just afraid of accidentally activating my old phone and have ridiculous charges.

If you still have a SIM card installed in the Lucid, remove it and you should then be good to go.  The phone requires a SIM card for activation.

  • How do I restore to factory resetting ? (As if it was brand new ?)

I just got my macbook pro, from a friend, and he has kept some of this stuff on the laptop still.
Just wondering, is there a way were I can do a system restart, so I get all the introduction stuff, as if I was opening it brand new ?
I dont have the disk installation, as 10.7 was pre-installed to the mac as stated on the box, but I can access the recovery HD (by doing the Command - R)
    Any help ?
    Thanks

How old is it? What year was it made and what is the model number? Look in About This Mac under the Apple logo in the menu bar.
Did it originally come with Lion Pre-Installed? Or an older version of Mac OS X?
"IF" it originally came with an older version of Mac OS X Pre-Installed did your Friend give you the Original System Discs?
    EDIT:
The above replies are fine and dandy IF your Mac came with Lion Pre-Installed. IF it DIDN'T then you have to do something else then what they describe.

  • IPod Mini was formatted as "Mac," trying to get it working on PC w Windows

    Against my advice, my daughter just purchased a PC. It's an +HP Acer+, w +Windows Vista+.
Her iPod Mini was *originally formatted* on my computer, an iMac, and all of her iTunes were loaded from this computer.
However, she tried to get it formatted on her new PC. When she did ...from the installation disk that came w her new iPod Mini, and which said it could be formatted for PC and gave the steps to do so...it froze somewhere in the formatting process.
Her computer froze and she could not turn it off. I told her to unplug from the wall outlet and re-boot. It worked and everything on the computer seems to be working.
However, all of her tunes on her iPod are gone. (Quite a few, in the hundreds.)
It would appear that the problem lies in trying to format and transfer tunes that originally came from a Mac-formatted iPod and tunes that came in from Mac iTunes.
But that's just conjecture. I don't know what the problem is.
    Any thoughts? Advice?
    Thanks in advance

    Few points :-
    1. If you format an iPod (Restore to factory setting), it will erase all data on the iPod
    2. You should always go for iTunes to Restore the iPod instead of using the old version iPod updater.
Try to download and install the latest version of Tunes and use to restore the iPod again
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
    3. After finishing the Restore, your iPod (formatted now on a PC) will still able to read by your iMac (but not the other way round), do you update with your iMac (transfer back on the songs to the iPod).
    4. Installa 3rd party software on your PC, use it to copy the music from the iPod to the iTunes on the PC. Please do a Google search for the software, there are plenty

  • IMac 5k Factory Reset

I am considering performing a factory reset of my iMac 5k. I'm not liking the way I setup the user accounts and share settings (it's a home computer shared among family members). And I'm finding some issues with my iTunes music setup.  I set it up right after Christmas and still my original files on my pc so I won't be losing much by doing a reset.
    My questions are:
What is the best way to do this (I've briefly viewed a coupke of videos)? Any recommended articles?
Will the steps for factory reset make computer like it was "out of the box"? Including all user accounts fully deleted?
is there any risks involved or is a reset I'll-advise?
I am new to iMacs and seem to much more now than I did 2 weeks ago. But still have a lot to learn.
Thanks in advance advance for any assistance with my issue.

Install or Reinstall OS X from Scratch
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Erase the hard drive:
      1. Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
      2. After DU loads select your startup volume (usually Macintosh HD) from the
left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
      3. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on
the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.
      4. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall OS X: Select Reinstall OS X and click on the Install button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • All of my photos are missing from time machine after Apple Genius Bar factory reset my macbook

I backed up my MacBook to Time Machine so that the Apple Genius Bar could factory reset my MacBook. It was running slow and I wanted everything deleted, so I could add back just photos and music. When I tried to find the iPhoto Library pictures on the time machine they were missing. Has anyone else had this problem? I have lost all my photos since I got the computer in 2008.

What I assume happened is they erased and installed the MacintoshHD partition which includes all accounts, files and OS X.
You now have a new account or the same name, but it's actually different and can't access your files because they belong to the previous account.
I think your supposed to use Migration Assistant in your Applications > Utilties folder, then transfer the account to the machine. You log into the account and can transfer files via the Dropbox to the new user account.
Combine two+ Users Accounts on the same machine
Once the files are transferred you can delete the old account.
Next time if you just want certain files returned, use a normal external storage drive instead, then you can simply Get Info and "Ignore permissions on this volume" (aka external drive) return those certian files and do a #6 Repair Users Permissions to set the ownership to your new account.

  • Factory reset, now mail wont work(app store too)

i factory reset my 3gs cause it was running slow and wifi wasnt working properly, and yes i was p*ed off and didnt back it up lol, but now when i goto set mail up with hotmail account, it says i need hotmail plus or something and it always pops up saying "failed to connect to POP3.live.com" what shall i do? its important i have mail working.
and when i open app store, it says loading, then it says cant connect to app store, i came here cause i cant find how to ask apple direct cause its soo complicated

before i reset it, i had 2 sim cards, 1 that came with the phone with the internet on, and another which is my main simcard. but to get the wifi working, i had to put my simcard with internet in, set it up to run on 3G, then the wifi would kick in then i could swap simcards over and it would wor, but when the screen turns off n when you unlock it, it stops working again, and when i repeat the process it works, till the screen turns off then it stops working.
but the wifi is sorted now since i factory reset it and the app store is loading now soo thats sorted, and i dont get the POP3 error when i open mail anymore, BUT it shows the little loading circle at the top, and says its checking for mail at the bottom, but it doesnt deliver any mail at all, so ive had to spend £6 on mbox mail cause i need email

  • WD Sentinel DX4000 - How long does it typicially take to factory reset?

I'm factory resetting the WD Sentinel DX4000 and formatting its hard drives and its taking quite a while. The dialog box says that formating and reseting may take serveral minutes but it has already been a couple hours. How long does it typically take to reset? Also the progress bar is not filling up at all, is this normal?

Kinda depends on why you are doing the restore.  If the drives were in good shape it should not take that long.  If the drives neeed to initialize it may well take a couple of days.  You must leave the "host PC" connected during this time What brought on the need to do the restore?

my iPhone 5 randomly switched itself when somebody was calling me and now won't turn on. it had 90% battery, I've tried factory reset, connecting to iTunes and nothing works. the phone is approx 18 months old so surprise surprise out of warranty.

My 5S just started doing this on Thursday: every fraction of a second or so it oscillates between connecting and disconnecting with the charger (USB or wall, doesn't matter). Since it's still under the limited warrantee, I took it to the local Mac dealer (I live in a small town w/out an Apple store) and they shipped it off. I'm waiting now for the replacement--telephonless, too!
What concerns me is that many people seem to be having this issue.
You were right to be suspicious of the Apple store employees. Once they replicated the behavior that you experienced, they should have immediatly offered to exchange your phone. Anything else, in my opinion, is unacceptable. As long as your phone is still doing it, I'd go back, ask for the manager and tell them to exchange your phone.

  • I have just bought an ipod classic, I already have an ipod nano.  The new ipod was connected to the computer to charge and it named itself with my name on the old nano, how do I get the computer to recognise the new one

I have just bought an ipod classic, I already have an ipod nano.  The new ipod was connected to the computer to charge and it named itself with my name on the old nano, how do I get the computer to recognise the new one?

My mistake, it was nothing to do with format.  It woldn't sync because my movies were HD.  HD movies won't sync to an iopd classic 160 GB but when you purchase a HD movie, itunes gives you a SD vervsion of the movie which is compatible with the ipod.  Just needed to go to store, click movies, click purchased and untick the HD box and there you have the SD versions.  Download the SD versions and then sync your ipod and bobs you uncle, movies are on the ipod

  • Would formatting the C drive trigger a "full" factory reset?

    Hello!
I have a T510i with windows 7. I ran a factory reset from the F11 menu, but it didn't really reset everything and now my windows udates doesnt work anymore. All of them fail, but i keep getting new ones.
My question is, if I format the C drive, can i then run the factory reset from F11, and would the wipe force it to do a full reset?
Also, what partitions should exist? I have the C drive and the recovery drive, should there be any more?
    Simon

    Hi Lead_org!
I bought it aprox 14 months ago, so it might just have ended. I'm not sure for how long my warranty was and I can't access those documents now, as I'm right about to go on a 6 month trip to India. (DESPERATLY trying to fix my computer before I go).
I don't know if the long story will be necessary but I'll give it here FYI:
I split my main partition in two to run a dual boot with Ubuntu. From this point on I started getting INVALID_KERNEL_HANDLE BSOD's in Windows randomly. So, I deleted the Ubuntu partitions and extended the Windows partition back to it's original size (or so I think), but the same BSOD still appears.
So I enter the F11 menu and do a factory reset. Unfortunately nothing was really reset, except that Google Chrome dissappeared.
Next move was to make sure that the machine was fully updated. But then, after running updates for two days i noticed that all updates was flagged as Failed. And that's where I am stuck now. I guess the BSOD is because something is now wrong in the partition table, and the windows updates fail becuase of the "factory reset".
The alternative I'm looking for now is a total factory reset, hoping maybe this can be done by first formating C:, but I don't want to try it without first consulting you guys.
/Simon - really appreciating your replies.

  • I have an iphone and an ipad (which are connected by the same apple id) i broke the phone and sold it but i didnt get to factory reset it because it was broken, is there any way for me to wipe my iphone from my ipad?

i have an iphone and an ipad (which are connected by the same apple id) i broke the phone and sold it but i didnt get to factory reset it because it was broken, is there any way for me to wipe my iphone from my ipad?

    Try this:
Open the "Find my iPhone" app on your iPad, fill in your AppleID and password at the start up screen, and you should see a list of all your devices and their current location, if connected to a Wi-Fi or mobile data network. Devices not connected will be shown as "offline". But you can still trap on the icon and hit "erase iPhone" in the right hand window.
If your iPhone is not listed, you did not activate this feature during the setup of the phone and it can't be erased remotely.
If the phone is listed, even as offline, tap on "erase" to send the erase command. The next time your device will be connected to any kind of network, the content will be erased.

  • Is there a way to force a factory reset if I forgot the passcode to an old device?

I have 4 iphone 5c's and found an old iPhone 4 (not s) that I don't use anymore and wanted to give it to my son to use as a fancy ipod but I have forgotten the passcode for it and haven't synced with my new macbook pro. Is there an application or way to force a factory reset bypassing the passcode? All his sisters and brothers have iphones and he feels left out The device in question has been used on my apple account in the past, I just don't know how to get around the passcode thing ...
