Factory Restore deleted iPhoto?

Hi,
For some time back, like some months, i factory restored my mac. I remember having iPhoto on my Macbook, but I think it was installed already when I got the Macbook for the first time. After the factory restore I didn't have iPhoto on my harddrive anymore, and need to buy it if I want to use it. I don't understand what happened. Does anybody know what I should do to get it back? Do I really have to buy something I owned?

OS X doesn't include iPhoto preinstalled, although your Mac may have come with it preinstalled. This is the reason why you lost iPhoto.
If your Mac came with DVDs, insert the Applications disc and install iPhoto. Then, open  > Software Update, and install the latest version.
If your Mac came without DVDs, open the Mac App Store, log in with your Apple ID, go to Purchases and download iPhoto for free.
If your Mac came with DVDs and you haven't got them, call Apple to get replacement DVDs > http://support.apple.com/kb/HE57

  • Restoring deleted iphoto files

    Hello,
i want to restore the photos from iphoto ( i deleted them accidentially) with my time capsule but it did not work so far.
i selected older versions from the system on the time machine and the system answer was, that there is not enough space on the mac book. I deleted about 3000 songs from the macbook and from the basket but still the same free space left and the macbook is to small to recover all the pics (=46GB) free space is about 40 GB. What can i do?? Tha system infomation also tells mehr that that are backups on my macbook for about 80GB but i cant find them. I really seems difficult and time consuming to hopefully get back my full iphoto library. now its all gone!
thank you very much for your support!

If you are using Time Machine and you have a MacBook, MacBook Pro or MacBook Air with OS X Lion or Mountain Lion, local snapshots are created in the hard drive > http://pondini.org/TM/30.html
Although there's no reason to delete them because they are deleted when there isn't enough space, in your case you must delete them if you want to recover the iPhoto library. To delete them, open System Preferences > Time Machine, and turn it off. Then, turn it on and restore the iPhoto library

    Yes.

  • Can I recover my photos after deleting iphotos library but restoring it back?

I deleted iphotos by mistake and then restored it back in trash, i still have not recovered my photos. I have two iphotos libraries now: one opens and is empty, the other does not open (its icon is different, it's kind of a white file). Is there any way I can recover my photos or are they just lost forever?

    and
If you depress the option key and launch iPhoto what does it show?
    and please explain
I tried opening the libabry of the restored iphotos but it doesn't let me choose it.
we know nothing except what you tell us so details are critical - including versions of iPhoto and the OS - your exact workflow (general statement that things don't work with no detail like the one referenced above are no help - to determine why something does not work we need to know eactly what you did and how)

  • Rebuilding iphoto albums after imac factory restore

Hi. Neighbour had just had her imac factory restored (by Apple after apps started to freeze after a number of hours).
I've been tasked with restoring data (for my sins).
I've "gone into" Time Machine and found the backup we did before Apple took over.
I've restored the obvious - desktop media, and am in the middle of doing "pictures" and "documents"
Will iphoto pick up from where it left or do I have to rebuild albums? Thanks.

Final question. I assume iphoto just builds "links" to photos? It doesn't make a copy?
If you choose to use a "referenced" library only links are created.  But it's strongly not recommended unless you're running the latest version of Aperture which can easily fix broken links in referenced libraries.
Open the TM preference pane, turn it off and then on again.  If that fails go to the Options section and add your HDs to the Exclude window.  Then remove them and reboot.
If that fails check here for other possible solutions: Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions

  • How do I restore my iPhoto app from a deleted apple account?

I went to the Genius Bar today because my MacBook Pro wasn't turning on, they reinstalled OSX mavericks but that did nothing. They deleted the files from my account which I'm okay with but now I can't restore my iphoto, iMovie and garage band. These apps were previously purchased from an old apple account that I have deleted because it was hacked into multiple times. I just don't want to pay $15 for iPhoto again, I don't expect my precious pictures back. Help please?

They deleted the files from my account which I'm okay with but now I can't restore my iphoto, iMovie and garage band.
The people at the Genius bar usually do not wipe a Mac without making sure that you have two backups. What happened to your backups? You should be able to restore the iLife applications from the backups.
These apps were previously purchased from an old apple account that I have deleted because it was hacked into multiple times.
Only AppleSupport can enable the old Apple ID for you again, if it has been disabled because of an account security problem.
You need to contact Apple Support and speak to the account security team. Only Apple can help you with this.
See this webpage on how to contact Apple Support in your country: There are either telephone numbers given or an email form:

  • I deleted Iphoto & Pics, Is there anyway of restoring these by going to the Apple store?

I was trying to restore the Pictures and accidentally emptied trash.  Can Apple support be able to help us restore anything?  We had not yet backed up on time machine.
Please help, otherwise lesson learned the hard way.

If you emptied the Trash and don't have a backup, the files are no longer accessible. They have been deleted from the filesystem and and the blocks on the disks, where they have been stored, have been recycled as free space.
What kind of image files are your files? Jpeg, raw format?
If your disk is not too full, you may be lucky and not all recycled free space has been overwritten. Then recovery software may be able to restore some of your photos. If you want to try that, stop using your mac, so prevent it from erasing even more disk blocks and run a recovery frogram. For example
    Disk Drill: http://www.cleverfiles.com/
is quite good at restoring deleted jpeg. But the program is not free, you will have to buy it, after you tried it and have seen, what can be recovered.

  • When downloading photos from my camera, iphoto will unexpectedly quit. One help suggestion said to try deleting iphoto preferences, but I can't  find them.

Iphoto unexpectedly quits while I am downloading photos from my camera. I logged in under a different name and it worked fine, whcih was one suggestion in my handbook. If that worked, which it did, the book suggests deleting iphoto prefences. But where are Iphoto preferences? I have looked high and low and cannot find them. Any other ideas?  I have a boat load of photos in this primary user log in, so...maybe I need to increase iphoto's RAM, but how do I do that?

Trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder.
(On 10.7 or later: Hold the option (or alt) key while clicking on the Go menu in Finder to access the User Library)
(Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
    What's the plist file?
For new users: Every application on your Mac has an accompanying plist file. It records certain User choices. For instance, in your favourite Word Processor it remembers your choice of Default Font, on your Web Browser is remembers things like your choice of Home Page. It even recalls what windows you had open last if your app allows you to pick up from where you left off last. The iPhoto plist file remembers things like the location of the Library, your choice of background colour, whether you are running a Referenced or Managed Library, what preferences you have for autosplitting events and so on. Trashing the plist file forces the app to generate a new one on the next launch, and this restores things to the Factory Defaults. Hence, if you've changed any of these things you'll need to reset them. If you haven't, then no bother. Trashing the plist file is Mac troubleshooting 101.
What version of the OS? What version of iPhoto?
How many is a "boatload"? There's no way to "increase iPhoto's RAM"

  • How do I restore an iPhoto library from Time Capsule

My iMac was stolen. I have a MacBook Air running Yosemite version 10.10.2. The iPhoto Library was not on the MacBook. How do I restore my iPhoto Library from a Time Machine backup on my Time Capsule onto my MacBook? I am using iPhoto version 9.6.1.
    Two complications:
    1. I have several hundred photos from a different iPhoto library on my MacBook.
    2. I think the iPhoto library that is hopefully on my Time Capsule is too big to fit on my MacBook. I have 50 GB free space remaining on a 256 GB SSD.
    Thank you.

If the library to be restored is too big for your boot drive you'll need to get an external HD, formatted OS X Extended (journaled) with ownership set to be ignored, and restore the iPhoto Library to it according to the instructions in the following screenshot:
With the restored library up and running you can use the paid version of  iPhoto Library Manager to merge the Macbook library into the restored library on the EHD.  A possible candidate for the EHD is the  OWC Mercury On-The-Go Pro USB 3.0 / FireWire 800.  It lends itself nicely for portable use.
Once you are satisfied that the merge was successful you can delete the Macbook library from the Pictures folder.

  • How do I restore my iphoto library from backup

    Hi,
I'm trying to find instructions on restoring my iPhoto library from a backup that is not based on Time Machine.  I have an external hard drive with the entire user folder information which includes all the photos.  I'd like to know if I should delete current file and replace with the backup, or something else?
    Thanks much!

The risk free way to do it is to drag the iPhoto Library from the Pictures Folder on the Back Up to your Desktop.
Then open it and check it:
Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library'
If it's all there and working correctly, then - and only then - delete the one currently in your Pictures Folder.
    Regards
    TD

  • HT201250 Why won't Time Machine won't restore my iphoto library [says there is not enough room on my hard drive.]  Any ideas?

I've got 20,000 plus photos on my HD [yes, I know, way tooo many].  I'm trying to clean up by storing them on an external HD, but for several months I've not been able to export iphoto [even geniuses can't figure out why].  So as a work around, I'm trying to export events and albums to external.  However, I realized that I didn't export in the original format making the files too small.  Now, I just want to restore my iphoto library to the date before I started this process and when I try to restore from Time Machine, it comes up with an error message that I don't have enough room on my HD.  Any ideas out there?  [The reason I want to restore is because I started to delete some of the iphoto files from my HD to clean it up and I want to get back to the original format for export].

In the simplest sense, archiving a file means making a copy that you never change and never discard. You already know how to do that.
iPhoto has built-in archival features, in the sense that it saves all versions of an image that you've modified. As long as you have adequate backups, you don't necessarily have any reason to archive an iPhoto library. If you want to delete images from the working library but still have access to them in case you change your mind, then you do need to archive those images. I don't have a specific suggestion as to how you should do that. You might post a question in the iPhoto forum.

  • HT2731 My daughters iPad has just been factory restored from the apple shop, she was on my iTunes account with her email address but now she is the correct age for her own account. We have started up the iPad and with trying to create her own with her own

My daughters iPad has just been factory restored from the apple shop, she was using my iTunes account with her email. When trying to create her own iTunes as she is the correct age it has come up that her email is already being used. How do we  do this with he same email address

    Hello spooner68,
Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing when trying to create an Apple ID for your daughter.  Because her email address is associated with your Apple ID, you are receiving the message that the email address is in use.
To remedy this, you will have to first remove her email address from your account using steps 1-3 of the section titled "How to add an additional email address that is already associated with another Apple ID" in the article below and then attempt to create her Apple ID with her email address:
How to add an additional email address that is already associated with another Apple ID
If you have an email address that is already associated with another Apple ID, you may need to remove it from your other Apple ID before you can add it to your preferred Apple ID.
Sign in to My Apple ID with the Apple ID that has the email address already associated with it.
Find the email address that you want to move to your preferred Apple ID, then click Delete.
Click Save Changes, then click Sign Out at the top of the page.

  • Wipe and factory restore without discs

Hi can i do wipe and factory restore my MBA without the discs , i have them some where but no idea where

We did the same with my wife's MacBook Air before giving it to our daughter, but it is not necessary to erase the drive. Create an account for your wife, give her Administrator privileges, then log into her account and delete your account. Everything you did on the MacBook Air will be gone.
Presumably, your MacBook Air is working well and your intent to 'wipe' it is not therapeutic, i.e., a clean install of the system software to remedy a software problem. If that is what you intend, then you will need to find your discs.
