Factory restore

hi, I'm holding on to the above mentioned.(forgot is it 8930/8390) i do not know if there is still warranty or not. as i bought it 2nd hand. i did notburn any back up too. i am facing problem with system factory restore. tried F11 upon startup.(could not oot therecovery page even when i pressed F11 repeatedly) tried looking for hp recovery manger.(i do not have this in windows) Please  do help with how should i go about doing the factory restore. Thank you very much!

Did you try to access Rescue and Recovery by tapping the Lenovo Care botton (the button that looks like a toolbox next to the power button) at boot? If you are able to do this, you should be able to restore your unit to the factory settings.
However, if this doesnt work and you didn't create your own recovery media before this incident happened, you'd be better off calling Lenovo tech support and obtaining a copyof the recovery CDs. They should be able to assist in this case.

I've downloaded and installed the latest recovery cd and installed that but it tells me there isnt data there, yet ive seen the img files.  Is there anyway I can manually start the factory recovery process or is there something on the lenovo site that will do this for me?
These CDs that you downloaded/installed. Are they speciifc to you machine type or model? Either way, you're still better off calling Lenovo to get the original OEM CDs. Then once you get the CDs, you should be ok.
Do NOT PM me with technical issues. Post in the forum for assistance. Thanks

  • I attached my perfectly functioning iPhone 4 to my computer to update and came back to an error message saying I have to do a factory restore which cause me to lose everything recent because I'm not even sure that the backup completed correctly

I left my iPhone attached to my computer to do an update and now I can't use the phone at all.  It was taking so long I left it, when I came back there was an erroe message saying that I need to do a factory restore on the phone.  It wasn functioning perfectly before I attached it to iTunes to do the update and now since I can't even be sure that the back up completed, I'm faced with losing a lot of stuff recently added to my phone.
I don't want to do a restore, I just want my phone back to how it was this afternoon before I connected it to iTunes.

If the screen shows a plug going to itunes, then you have no choice,  It's in recovery mode.  You'll be given the chance to restore from a backup either from itunes or icloud.
I assume when you got the message to update (was this for the ios or update some apps?), that was before the device when dead.  At any rate, doing a restore does not change the ios.

My iPhone 3GS is producing a digital delay in podcasts only.  No effect in Music or games.  I tried a factory restore with no effect.  Any ideas?

Check and see if you've bought any iTunes Gift Cards you don't know about
Fraudulent iTunes Gift cards are used to make purchases but are associated with a hijacked account so that if traced it's that account holder who'll have to deal with the problems. It was a form of "laundering".
It's one of the reasons iTunes had stopped issuing those $200 gift cards about a year back since that's one of the uses for them ( The other reason had to do with why you don't, if you're sane, continue with gift card numbers after someone cracks the algorithm. ).
Another problem was with debit card numbers, usually swiped from a restaurant or Pub, being used for iTunes purchases in the U.K. ( You can find out about that by doing a search of this forum since it was also heavily posted. ) and to buy gift cards for a one time use.
If someone just hacked his account or his account was compromised further and his debit card number it out in the wild then sudden surprise purchases from the iTunes Store maybe his first warning.
He has to check his account further.

  • Firefox hangs even after doing a complete factory restore on computer. How do I fix this? Its taking 5 mins to respond.

My computer is a Dell with Windows Vista. I just did a complete factory restore, not the system restore. Firefox was the first thing I downloaded and it still doesn't respond quickly and sometimes has to be shut down with the task manager. It's the lastest version of Firefox, unless you folks put something older out there on the home page. I love Firefox and would like it back in working order. Please help.

  • Can't do factory restore & only disks that keep ejecting are the osx install and apps disks

First of all let me say, this is my first Apple computer and I'm not experienced in forums. Please do not read rudeness into what is actually frustration at searching forever for a solution and trying not to wish I had been talked into an Apple.  With that said....
I've had my iMac for about a year and a half.  We had lost our internet and were using a hotspot for awhile so we could look for another provider and get online if we needed to.  One day I signed on and, we didn't have an isp mind you, but the browser opened up to the dominant isp in this area saying a virus was detected coming from this iMac address? I thought that was strange and panicked so decided to do what I would on a pc, just restore the whole thing to factory settings.  Everything was going smooth, (my updates were at 10.6.8 at the time)... when I restored I was back at 10.6.2. (osx disk) I was doing systems updates and one apparently hung.... when told to restart, I did... but the computer would never boot back up.  It would turn on.... go to gray screen... then blue screen... then shut off.  I couldn't boot in safe mode, pram reset did nothing, smc reset did nothing, couldn't hold 'd' to get to diagnostics, couldn't boot to recovery... it kept spitting out disks after trying to read them... with all those solutions I found online and nothing helping I had to call Apple... they couldn't help over the phone because Apple Care expired, unless I purchased help... this frustrated me because every where I found my problem and a different solution their Apple Care had expired too.... so had to set an appt at an Apple store.
So took it in to Apple, just got it back yesterday.  I let them know I was restoring to factory settings so wasn't worried about losing anything.  When I picked it up, I was told no charge... it was a software issue they saw where it hung and fixed it.  I tried to ask questions about the 'software repair' but they didn't seem to want to answer my questions.  It just says 'software repair' on my order. So I asked 'okay, so it's back to factory settings like when I bought it?' I was told yes and I said great that was my goal anyway.  I get home and it's NOT like when I first purchased it or like a factory restore.  Everything I was doing before it crashed is on there. So I'm back to trying to do a factory restore.  But for some reason now, it seems the only disks that keep self ejecting are the osx install and application disks. I still can't do a boot recovery, AHT, or 'c' boot... since the apple disks eject I can't use start up to get to them.
I find it odd that both the oxc install disk and applications disk would be damaged at the same time when they both previously worked.  I called the Apple Store where I took it to talk to the geniuses that worked on it because I had a question about the repair they did....
Apple: I'm sorry we don't offer tech support
Me: I understand but I had a question about the repair done from there the other day
Apple: We are just a store and can't answer tech questions
Me: I understand and get that but since I took my mac to your store to be worked on I thought I could ask the person that worked on it a question about the 'software repair' and meaning and what software was repaired
Apple: No you will have to set another apt to bring your computer in if you are still having problems
    Me: UGHHHHHH (pulling hair out)
So (a little late huh?) to make a long story short giving what I stated above:
Why is it, only the osx install and application disks not working now? They worked before taking it to Apple
What can I do at this point?
Can you do a factory restore without disks on a Mac?
If by chance both disk did for some reason go out, how do I get them replaced?
If I gave TMI without enough important info let me know.
My OS X install disk says version 10.6.2 on it
About this Mac currently says Mac OS X version 10.6.8
Batteries died on keyboard and mouse so am using usb wired keyboard and mouse
At some point I had used bootcamp and then later found parallels so I could install a Corel product and keep using... could some windows files be messing something up in there somewhere?
It used to say Mac OS X Version 10.6.8 and I could have sworn I saw it said 'snow leopard' in there somewhere, now I can't even find that word in search on the computer. Long post I know but trying to set what was going on at the time I took it in.
I'm not sure what else needs to be added to get this to the correct thread or help.  As I stated my goal is to have it like I just pulled it out of the box for the first time so no solution will scare me off about loss of data.
    Thanks for any help.

Wow, sorry to hear of your experience. Seems strange that your disk would just eject like they did. It could be a lot of things but more than likely you just kind of have to start all over.
What I would do is insert your system disk and instead of going immediately to an install I would go to disk utility and erase the drive. That will erase everything on the disk and give you a new blank disk to start with. After that I would try to reinstall the system. Assuming that goes well then you should be restored to where it was when you purchased it. After that you can reinstall all your applications or personal files. I hope you have good backups.
I remember one time I was having a similar problem and don't ask my why I did it but I actually could not get it to install a system. I removed both of my ram sticks, shut the computer down for about 10 minutes including unplugging it from the wall plug, then reinstalled the ram, plugged it back in and started up from the system disk and all worked just fine. To this day I have no idea if pulling the ram helped but I have never had to do it since and for some dumb reason that solved the problem I was having, which is the same problem you are having now. Call it voodoo but it worked.
    Good Luck!!

  • HT2731 My daughters iPad has just been factory restored from the apple shop, she was on my iTunes account with her email address but now she is the correct age for her own account. We have started up the iPad and with trying to create her own with her own

My daughters iPad has just been factory restored from the apple shop, she was using my iTunes account with her email. When trying to create her own iTunes as she is the correct age it has come up that her email is already being used. How do we  do this with he same email address

    Hello spooner68,
Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing when trying to create an Apple ID for your daughter.  Because her email address is associated with your Apple ID, you are receiving the message that the email address is in use.
To remedy this, you will have to first remove her email address from your account using steps 1-3 of the section titled "How to add an additional email address that is already associated with another Apple ID" in the article below and then attempt to create her Apple ID with her email address:
How to add an additional email address that is already associated with another Apple ID
If you have an email address that is already associated with another Apple ID, you may need to remove it from your other Apple ID before you can add it to your preferred Apple ID.
Sign in to My Apple ID with the Apple ID that has the email address already associated with it.
Find the email address that you want to move to your preferred Apple ID, then click Delete.
Click Save Changes, then click Sign Out at the top of the page.

  • My cousin updated her iPad 2 to 7.1 and it said to go to iTunes so she used my Mac.  It said to do a FACTORY RESTORE!  HELP !  She can't get into her iPad at all.

After my cousin from California did an update on her iPad to 7.1 she could not start her iPad.  It had only a message to hook it up to iTunes.  She had to use my Mac to do it and it said she had to do a FACTORY RESTORE.  This would mean she would lose everything!!!  She does have her photos on her iPhone but other things are not backed up on the cloud.  Is there a way for her to un up grade her iPad so she doesn't have to go through the loss of everything?  Is there some way she can link her phone to her iPad to get the stuff off her iPad to the cloud first to save it and THEN to the factory restore?  Any help would be appreciated.
She really wishes she had NEVER upgraded the software :-(
Can she use my MAC to save things to a file and then a USB drive for a worse case scenario?????  But how do we dump the info if we can't see it since the iPad is frozen?
Any and all help is appreciated.

  • I have windows 7,  did a factory restore now new itunes with icloud will not play movies i have download before update

I  have windows 7, I just had to do a factory restore. I have a click free for a backup for my computer so when i went to restore my couputer all my music and movies are there but  when my power went out ,I want to watch a movie in the new Itunes none of my movies would play. It looks like i had to download them again with icloud and why sose some songs and videos have the icloud on them in the upper right corner if i don't have to download them again?

Maybe one of these answers will work for you. I found these in Google with "wordpad windows 7 single space" (quotations included):

  • Apple TV 1st gen Factory Restore Problems

I have an Apple TV 1st generation that I tried to do a factory restore on.  I did not unplug durring the progress bar.  It then started up with the apple, then the opening video with all the tv screens.  It asked me for the language, I selected English, then had me choose the correct internet connection so I typed in the password for our Wi-Fi, then it came up with the code to connect to our home computer and started flashing a new code every 2 seconds.  I unplugged the Apple TV and waited about a minute then plugged back in.  It again had the normal start up, but then after the opening video it began flashing between a screen with the apple then a blank black screen then to a menu screen and cycling through each screen about every 1-2 seconds.  I unplugged again and waited about 10 minutes but then had the same results.  Is there anyway I can do another system restore as I cant get it to stop flashing.

I FIXED IT!!!  So here is how to fix your Apple TV 1st generation if you are having the problems listed above.  I am listing it step by step as I have not found the solution to my problem ANYWHERE and I have been looking all day and figured it out myself.  Here we go:
If you have done a FACTORY RESTORE and it is now flashing different through different screens I recomend doing a FORCED RESTART from the totally awesome guys at MethodShop, here is the link: http://methodshop.com/gadgets/tutorials/appletv-fix/
If their instructions do not fix your problem here is what I figured out (assuming the diagonstic test says that your Apple TV is working correctly).
Keep your Apple TV plugged in, and allow it to go to sleep.  It can take up to 45 minutes.  Once it has gone to sleep (the screen will have photos scrolling on the TV) press the MENU button on the remote to wake it up.  The Apple TV will wake up on the MENU screen.  Scroll down to SETTINGS then select SYSTEM UPDATE.  Follow all instructions to update the system to the current update.
WARNING: If you take too long once you have woken up the Apple TV it will start freaking out again and you will have to let it go to sleep again.
I have tried this twice now to make sure the first time was not a fluke and its working perfect now.
    Hope this helps someone else!

  • Can't update or factory restore Apple TV

I noticed the Apple TV I just bought for my Living Room hadn't updated to 1.1 even though I'd ran the installer a couple of weeks ago. So I tried running it again - I gave it the "Update Now" prompt, it restarted and when it rebooted I was still stuck on 1.0.
So I then tried to run diagnostics or at worse a factory reset. I pressed the Menu and minus keys on the remote, the Apple TV flashed orange and went into the restart. But instead of presenting me with the factory restore/diagnostics menu it just went right back to the main screen.
I'm not sure what's going on with it. It works fine otherwise, but I can't seem to update or run diagnostics on it. Anyone have any suggestions?

I also was able to complete the download after removing the Ethernet cable and connecting via wireless to my router.  This also fixed my problem of not being able to view my Photo Stream

  • Cannot connect ATV 2.0 (factory restore) to wifi (tried all secure modes)

Restored ATV to v2.0. ATV sees the wireless network but cannot connect. Have attempted all types of encryption settings:
    1. WPA2-PSK: AES, TKIP and mixed mode
    2. WPA-PSK
    3. WEP 128bit, hex and ascii.
Using Buffalo Airstation WZR-HP-G300NH, firmware 1.74. Wireless was working fine at current version (3.x?) prior to factory restore using WPA2-PSK. I recall having these same issues on another router when I first got my ATV and finally had to revert to WEP 128bit 26 character hex code to get it to work. Unfortunately, that's not working with this router.
Ethernet plug is dead, so I can't connect it directly to the network.
    Any ideas?

Closing this as answered. Went into Apple, they pretty much confirmed that both the wifi and ethernet were dead. It was out of warranty so I just bought a new one.

  • How to restore an Apple TV first generation if it does not factory restore in recovery mode?

The other day, while watching a movie, my Apple TV 1st gen just froze and became unresponsive to any remote control inputs. My intital attempts to just remove power and startup again failed and resulted in repeated crashes and renewed startups. On the discussions here ( Re: Apple TV 1st gen Factory Restore Problems ) I found out how to force restart by holding down the 'menu' key and the ' - ' key simultaneously. This brought me to the Recovery Menu.
Restart from there didn't work, only resulted in coming back to the recovery menu.
Diagnostics showed my Apple TV to be working normally.
Factory Restore immediately brought up a failure message that factory restore was not possible!
I tried this several times but always the same result. My trusted Apple TV first generation had mysteriously turned itself into a brick.
After searching the web and trying all kinds of things, I figured out how to save it. Here's how:
for reference, have a look at this webpage, but keep reading below: http://www.tweaking4all.com/home-theatre/appletv/restore-appletv-os-after-erasin g-disk/
you need a good size USB stick, mine was 4GB
the first method described didn't work for me, is time consuming, and you need an ethernet internet connection
however the second method described (no network needed) worked, but not with the file posted on the website (had wrong size)
download the disk image with the Apple OS from here: http://wiki.openelec.tv/index.php?title=Restoring_the_Apple_OS
I downloaded the Apple OS v3.0.2 file, this proved to be working
If you're on a Mac, download and install the ApplePi-Baker application from here: http://www.tweaking4all.com/hardware/raspberry-pi/macosx-apple-pi-baker/
If you're not on a Mac, follow the instructions in the thread posted in 1.
Using the ApplePi-Baker, or the other methods, restore the disk image to the USB stick; be patient, this may take a while
Unpower your Apple TV, plug in the USB stick, power up your Apple TV
Your Apple TV will now boot up from the USB stick and will install the latest OS on its harddrive
When completed, remove power, remove USB stick, power up and hold down the 'menu' and ' - ' keys simulatenously, this will bring your Apple TV into Recovery mode
    Select Factory Restore
Your Apple TV will now factory restore to OS v 3.0.2
Note: This worked for me right away, but if not you may want to try the earlier OS version, see notes on the OpenElec Wiki page.
Good luck, and keep enjoying your Apple TV first gen!

Based on your suggestions, I've posted an additional article on how to do this ...
    http://www.tweaking4all.com/home-theatre/appletv/restore-appletv-os-offline-1stg en/
Also note that I fixed the issue with the corrupted IMG files .... the files on Tweaking4All.com now work as they are supposed to.
    Thanks again James!

  • Wipe and factory restore without discs

Hi can i do wipe and factory restore my MBA without the discs , i have them some where but no idea where

We did the same with my wife's MacBook Air before giving it to our daughter, but it is not necessary to erase the drive. Create an account for your wife, give her Administrator privileges, then log into her account and delete your account. Everything you did on the MacBook Air will be gone.
Presumably, your MacBook Air is working well and your intent to 'wipe' it is not therapeutic, i.e., a clean install of the system software to remedy a software problem. If that is what you intend, then you will need to find your discs.
