Factory Settings problem.

I tried to restart my MacBook Pro back to Factory settings but after doing restarting my MB it comes up with a flashing folder icon with a question mark.

If you didn't erase the Recovery partition on the internal drive you can boot from it with the Command and R keys held down whilst booting. If you did erase the Recovery partition, you'll have to boot into "true" Internet Recovery mode - by holding down the Command, option and R keys whilst booting.
This takes some time (which is why I suggest being 'wired') but you'll eventually get to pretty much the same Recovery window and you can install the version of OS X that shipped with your computer. Again, this is going to take some time - even with my relatively fast 22Mbps download speed, the last time I used the Internet Recovery method, it took quite awhile for me to finally reach the Recovery window. Once there, though, you can elect to completely erase the drive (including the Recovery partition) and install OS X anew.
Call back if you encounter any problems.

  • B320 Restore to Factory Settings problem

Trying to restore B320 to factory settings.  F2 brings up a background screen with leaves and a dialog box headed 'Notice'.  I am being asked to 'Enter your password' but I have tried the administrator password, the user password and a blank password but nothing works!
    Any help gratefully received.

Hi Maidstone_nic, welcome to the forums,
happy to read the customer came up with the right password and you were able to get things working.
All we can offer in the forums is the same advice as can be found in the systems user and Hardware Maintenance Manual; the forum rules forbid discussion on subverting security measures, (worarounds), which of course passwords are.  Another option would of course be to contact Lenovo support.

  • If Your Getting The "Restore To Factory Settings"  Helpful information

*note restoring back to factory settings will wipe your ipod clean of any information that wasnt on it when u first recieved it"
I kept getting error after error on my new ipod and it seemed i was diggin myself deeper with everything i tried but i did eventually solve the restore to factory settings problem and hopefully if anyone else has the problem they be able to fix it also.
First you need to download the ipod updater from this web address http://www.apple.com/ipod/download/
install the update then it asks you to restart your computer. Do this
When the computer has rebooted plug in your ipod ignore itunes if it appears and go to
my computer > program files > ipod > in then ipod file there should be a file named ipod updater 2005, i think the latest updater is ipod updater 2005-11-17.
So click on the ipod updater 2005-11-17 file.
Click on the picture of the ipod with the writing ipod updater 2005-11-17.
Then the ipod update screen should appear (white background)
Make sure your ipod is in then you need to click the restore button.
After this a message telling you its restoring to factory settings should appear. Wait awhile for it to restore (your ipod should show the apple sign then come back).
Eventually it should restore it back to factory settings. open up itunes and hopefully fingers cross the ipod should show up on the list on the left.
(i'm stilling getting the "do no dissconnect" message but when i no the information has been downloaded on ipod (the message on itunes will say "update complete") you can just click the eject ipod button and everything should be fine.

i'm glad i could help, trust me i was there for ages trying to figure the error out and i spent a very long time going thro tons of messages but seemed like i was only one with the error. but thankfully my ipod is working now and hopefully it will help other people with same problem

Yeah it works fine over wifi the problem is when I try to use it over my 3G. It's really stressing me out now.

  • I just updated my iPhone 4 to iOS6.  In the process, I ran into a problem and had to restore factory settings.  After syncing the phone, I see that 218 apps need to be updated. When selecting "update all," it says "manage local device storage usage." How?

I just updated my iPhone 4 to iOS6.  In the process, I ran into a problem and had to restore factory settings.  After syncing the phone, I see that 218 apps need to be updated. When selecting "update all," it says "Cannot Download.  There is not enough available local storage to download these items.  You can manage your local device storage usage in Settings."
How can this be the case when I haven't changed any apps from before updrading to iOS6, and I don't have any music yet on the phone?  Why is it telling me there is not enough local space?

    Hi RileyAvaCadenRiver,
If you recently updated your iPhone to iOS7, you will need to update iTunes on your computer to iTunes 11.1 or newer for it to correctly recognize the iPhone. You may find the following link helpful:

I am trying to restore an ipod to the factory settings. However I get a message that my username or password is incorrect. I am using my correct Apple id and password.  What is the problem, please?

Was that Apple ID and password the original owner of the iPod?  If not, try using the Apple ID and password of the original owner.

In trying to include what information all that I could I should have specified I DON'T KNOW THAT IT WAS DEFINATELY JAILBROKEN when I took it to the apple store they told me there's no way for them to tell if it was jail broken or not. I'm only going by what ppl have told me COULD HAVE BEEN DONE TO THE PHONE. With that said the only thing I know for sure is that the apple tech at the Genius Bar told me that someone took control of my root menu in February & I've had no control of my phone since. I asked him how to regain control & how he knew his exact words were "oh that is out of our scope of capabilities here at this level & you would need an apple engineer to fix it". I said ok then how do I get an apple eng then? He laughed & said you can't!!!! To which I was furious I came home & called apple requesting to speak w/the fraud dept to file a report they said we don't have a fraud dept!! So after a 45 mn phone call again I left w/no answers.
    @TJBUSMC1973-
I DON'T HAVE THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS TO SPEND HIRING AN ATTORNEY & Although I appreciate your suggestion I fail to how an attorney would be able to facilitate in any way since there's no suspect. I cannot prove that it's him doing it so I certainly can't pursue legal action w/no proof & no money. :'((
Again I thank you for your advice but I don't think that will help.
I was looking more for a TECHNICAL way to avoid this happening w/a new phone should I buy one or trying to get them out of my phone now! Such as installing some kind of software protection?? Someway to clear out the entire phone (other than factory reset which was done 10 x's w/no success, etc. if this person got in then there HAS TO BE A WAY OF GETTING HIM OUT, right????

    Hello marie196,
Thanks for the question, and welcome to Apple Support Communities.
You do not necessarily need to restore the device to factory settings, but rather sign out of the four services that utilize your Apple ID: iCloud, iMessage, FaceTime, and iTunes & App Stores. Once signed out, you can sign in with a new Apple ID. For more information, see the following article:
Using your Apple ID for Apple services

Additional Information: You may encounter an error regarding a 90-day limit. For information on this, see the following article:

  • Had a problem with my iPad 2 and took it into apple store to get it restored to factory settings. I now need to restore from iTunes but can't see my iPad when connected via USB, any ideas please?

Help !! I had a problem with my iPad 2 this morning which resulted in me taking into the apple store and them restoring it to factory settings. They advised me to restore all my apps etc from iTunes which I am trying to do, however once connected via the USB I cannot see it as a device on iTunes, and I keep getting the message on my laptop "the iPad cannot be used because it requires iTunes version 11.1 or later, go to iTunes.com/uk and download the latest version"
I cannot see what the version of iTunes is on my iPad and have gone into safari to try and download but not able to as it tells me iTunes is already loaded. I have the latest version on my laptop  so I am stuck as to what to do next.  Any suggestions please??

  • I've added to ios6 to my new ipod touch with no problems. I'm trying to now restore the factory settings but the screen is frozen with an itunes sign and lead pointing towards it. The ipod won't even switch off. Can anyone help as it's driving me crazy

I've added ios6 to my new ipod but tried then to restore the factory settings. It won't extract any settings and the itunes then tells me that the server cannot be reached or is unavailable. I've been trying all day. Now the ipod has a itunes sign and a computer lead pointing towards it on the screen and this is frozen. It won't switch off or do anything else. Any ideas as this is now driving me crazy.

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

can someone assist me with a solution to the problem with my iphone 5. I upgraded to IOS 6.1.4 and since then i have had the problem of No Sim. I restored to the factory settings using i tunes as i have my back up on my pc but still the same problem. I have swapped sim and my Sim is working on other iphone with ios 6.1.3

Try a new SIM from your carrier.  If that doesn't work, make a Genius Bar appointment and get your phone evaluated.

  • I updated my software last night and when I came back to the computer its says there was a problem and I need to restore factory settings. How do I get my photos and videos off the phone

I plugged in my phone to update to the latest software. After a while, I went back to the PC and it said there had been a problem and that I needed to restore the factory settings.
I am worried that I will lose all the photos and videos that I have on the phone. How do I get them off.
When I now plug the phone it the screen looks like when you first get it - i.e. itunes logo and asking me to plug in.

If the device has been used as designed, the pics and via taken with the device would have regularly been copied off to a computer.
The first step in the update process via iTunes on the computer is a backup.
Restore the device from the most recent backup.
If data is lost, then it is merely the fault of the user for not backing up the device or saving their data regularly.
Once the device is in recovery mode, the ONLY option is to restore.

  • Problems trying to erase and reinstall iBook G4 to factory settings

I am trying to reinstall the factory settings on my iBook G4 so that I can pass the computer on to my parents. I tried installing from my two install disks, using the "erase and install" option. Disk 1 worked fine, everything proceeded normally, and then the computer asked me to insert Disk 2. From that point on, the thing seems to be caught in some loop. I get the "preparing installation" message, and then it starts to install, but then suddenly the screen goes to blue, and then it comes back on as the beginning of the "preparing installation" progress bar again. It does this on a continues loop. When I opened the Installer log, the errors I see say "can't instantiate package" for keynote 2, iWork Font, iWork Extras, and GarageBand.
At some point after it goes through this loop, it gives up, tells me there were errors and to reinstall OS X. It ejects the disk, and then prompts me to reinsert the Disk 2 again. When I do, the whole thing starts all over again. Please help! I don't know what else to do.

You may have to use the Disk Utility (on booted installer disc) to see
if it can 'repair disk' and also consider checking the optional tools it
has, to use the one that over-writes the hard disk drive with random
zeros; and then reformat it to HFS+ since it could have a problem.
When you do get a system installed, be sure to run 'repair disk
permissions' from the new system's Disk Utility.
In fact, to start up in SafeBoot and then run DU's repair disk permis-
sions can be helpful; prior to any updates or upgrades.
{Another way to remove user files could have been to use a different
plan and remove the user account, replacing the admin/owner one
with another new admin user account. There is a way, and it likely is
    in the Apple Support knowledgebase. The topic gets revisited here.}
If Disk Utility - on OS X installer - finds a problem it can't fix, before
trying a reinstall from the booted installer disc, you may have to see
about getting a third party disk utility compatible with the OS X you
are trying to install and use that to repair the computer's hard drive.
DiskWarrior is among the popular; but note this isn't a one does all,
    it may be enough to fix the hard disk drive's issue or see if it is OK;
though there are other third party disk utilities which fix other stuff.
    Good luck & happy computing!
