Factory unlocked iPhone 4 locked itself after 5.1.1 update?

I have an iPhone on the network 3, but am moving to tesco mobile. The phone is unlocked, and I have had other sims in it before. Since this update, only my 3 sim will work? Is on a new baseband too. 04.12.01
My phone has always worked before hand with other sim cards, so I can't get my head about what could be wrong.
When I put the sim in I get no service, and when I go into airplane mode and back out, it says sim failure. I know its not the sim itself, because it is a new sim and I have tested it in my HTC Wildfire.
I jumped from IOS 5.0.1 to 5.1.1 because I hadnt had time to update my phone in these last months (If that is of any relevence).
Would someone kindly explain whats wrong and how I can fix this?
Thanks guys,
T

Here in the UK, when you buy a brand new iPhone from the apple store, its factory unlocked. You can use any sim in it you want. I have used multipul sim cards from different carriers in the phone since I bought it. It works fine with my sim and I will try another and see if that works. I will report back when I have tried

  • My factory unlocked Iphone 4 got locked after 4.3.2 update, How do I unlock it?

"factory unlocked Iphone 4 got locked after 4.3.2 update, How do I unlock it?"
Do I have to use the apple's fast lane to resolve the issue or is it something that can be resolved quickly using the ITunes or combination of power and home key please advice...

From where did you purchase the iPhone? Are you certain it really was factory unlocked? I can't say that an iOS update couldn't inadvertently lock an iPhone, but more commonly it would happen with a jailbroken iPhone. If by "from Irvine" you mean Irvine, California, then you don't have a factory-unlocked iPhone unless you purchased it from another country, as there are no unlocked iPhones sold through any authorized reseller in the US.
    Regards.

hello..i have purchaes iphone 5 from u.s it's a factory unlocked iphone 5 ..on may14th..it has warranty till may14th of 2014..and i came idia on july and after using the phone for 1moh in india ,when i'm trying to restore it doesn't shows apple iphone menu..it displays the screen image of connect usb cable to restore itunes .and i tried  times and it shows the error (-1)..when i have contacted apple the said bring the phone to us we will replace it with new one....now i can't go to u.s so please kindly help me..as soon as possible...please

EDIT 2: It cannot be restored via iTunes 'cause I get a screen message saying that there's no SIM card in the iPhone I'm attempting to activate. The friend who sold me the phone showed me a method for restoring it on the phone itself, without having to send the command through iTunes (connect the phone to computer, turn it off, hold both Home and Power buttons until the Apple logo disappears, release the Power button without releasing Home button, iTunes shows a message about an iPhone in restoring mode, restore, etc.). Thing is, I tried this two or three times on the iPhone 5 but the device still doesn't recognize the stupid SIM…
    Please, help

  • How can i fix "the sim card inserted in this iphone does not appear to be supported " after restoring a factory unlocked iphone 4

how can i fix "the sim card inserted in this iphone does not appear to be supported " after restoring a factory unlocked iphone 4

The term "factory unlocked" has no meaning. Your phone was not legitimately unlocked. Contact the carrier it is locked to and find out if you can get it unlocked.

  • Factory unlocked iphone 5 turns out to be locked

My aunt bought a factory unlocked iPhone 5 from London apple store at full price 530pounds. When I insert the nano sim in it, it says no service. So I went to IMEI.info and typed its imei. The status showed that my iphone is locked. What should I do now?

My understanding is that UK carriers will only authorize unlocking if you are a current customer.
Unlocking is accomplished by them submitting a request to Apple, and once processed, you restore the phone using iTunes on your computer.
You'll have to contact the carrier it's locked to to find out their specific requirements. There may be an additional fee.
IF the receipt from Apple says that it was sold as unlocked, Apple Care should be able to resolve the issue for you without a charge.

I have an Iphone 4 with ios 4.3.3 bb 4.10.01 and its factory unlocked. If I upgrade it to a new Ios 5, will I loose my unlock??
I know that factory unlocked iphones dont loose unlock if they are upgraded but I heard that IOS 5 will lock the factory unlocked also.

You heard wrong.  IF the device is officially unlocked by Apple, it will not be relocked.  IF it was hacked to be unlocked, upgrading iOS WILL relock the device to the original carrier.

  • Factory unlocked iPhone 4 now locked!!

    Hey guys,
I bought this iphone 4 from uk, its a 32gb white factory unlocked iphone. MC606B. When i bought it there was no cydia or anyother app that suggested that it wud be a locked piece. I brought it to india and it worked fine. I just updated my iphone 4 from 4.3.3 to ios 5 and now it says that the sim card inserted in this phone does not appear to be supported!!! the error msg says SIM_LOCKED.
Is it possible for it to get locked again.
As far as i know all the MC606B builds r factory unlocked.
    Plz help
what can i do about it??

Where in the UK did you purchase it?
The model number is NOT a reliable indicator of the carrier lock status.
If you did not purchase it from a corporate Apple Store, then it was probably hacked, not factory unlocked.

  • I bought a factory unlocked iphone 4s. it was working fine but when i upgraded it to iOS 5.1 it gave me "no sim" message. so when i tried to restore the iphone setting it is giving me now "ICCID: unknown" message please help. any ideas?

i bought a factory unlocked iphone 4s. it was working fine but when i upgraded it to iOS 5.1 it gave me "no sim" message.
so i tried then to restore the iphone using itunes but it got worse it is giving me now "ICCID: unknown" message please help. any ideas?

Please define "factory unlocked". The term is basically meaningless. iPhones are sold either carrier locked or unlocked. Some carriers will unlock them after a period of time upon meeting certain requirements and paying a fee.
There are lots of places that will "factory unlock" an iPhone. This basically translates to "hack". This can cause permanent damage to the phone. Best case scenario is these phones will re-lock to the original carrier on an update or restore. Worst case it they become expensive bricks.
ICCID unknown indicates a critical failure. There is no way to resolve this other than taking it in to Apple and getting the phone replaced. It's very possible that the phone was hacked and attempting to update has now killed it.
Where, EXACTLY, did you get this phone?

  • Can not update 5.1.1 to 6.0 on factory unlocked iPhone 4S - An unknown error occurred (-1) (21)

    HI all,
for the first time, one of my Apple products is making me mad.
1.) I have an factory unlocked iPhone 4S running 5.1.1
2.) When I try to update, it (MacBook Pro running 10.8.1) extracts the software and then after a few seconds it shows me (An unknown error occurred (-1))
3.) When I put the phone in DFU Mode and try to update it shows me (An unkown error occurred (21)) - The iPhone freezes at the Apple Logo
I have downloaded the IPSW again (Yes I am sure I have the one for iPhone 4S), have downloaded and installed iTunes 10.7. Further I have installed iTunes fresh on a another Laptop (iTunes 10.7 on Windows 7) - Same behavior there.
The funny thing is, when I restore the iPhone to 5.1.1 it restores it without any problem.  I have also tried to first make a restore on 5.1.1 and directly on 6.0. Same problem.
    PLEASE HELP ME!
    Cheers
    Peter

You might try using RedsNow to put it in DFU mode.

  • When I tried to sync my 4G iphone factory unlocked to iTunes I got this message "An update to the carrier settings for your iPhone is available. Would you like to download it now?"  Should I hit "Download and Update"? or "Learn More" ?

When I tried to sync my 4G iphone factory unlocked to iTunes I got this message "An update to the carrier settings for your iPhone is available. Would you like to download it now?"  Should I hit "Download and Update"? or "Learn More" ?

I have a factory unlocked iPhone 3GS (eg: purchased from Apple).  I received the same message at some point and eventually (after reading a bit more) accepted "Download and Update".  No problem.  No apparent bad effects. It just seems to update things specific to the carrier (Bell Mobility in my case).

  • Date Time issue factory unlocked iphone 4s

I have a factory unlocked iphone 4s bought in Apple store US and currently in India. In Settings -> General -> Date & Time, I am setting "on" Set Automatically. After some time say 2-3 hours, the time automatically moves back by 30 minutes. In India there is no daylight savings. I am forced to set "off" for the "Set Automatically" option and then choose the timezone, time to keep it to the correct time. Anyone facing this issue ? By setting it to "Set Automatically" on, my understanding is it should sync with the mobile provider ("Airtel"). Is this a bug in iOS ?

i have same problem i also went to apple store but the can not find any problem i don't know what to do ?
    i hop it's just a sofware problem

  • Factory unlocked iPhone 5 having problems sending/receiving sms

    Hello,
I recently bought a factory unlocked iPhone 5 from the apple store in the US and I am unable to send/receive any sms/texts using my mobile provider B&YOU located in France.
Can anyone help with ways to solve this issue?
    Thanks,
    Suligadal

    Hello Sk8Dreams,
Thanks for your questions and quick feedback. Yes I turned on SMS & MMS in my settings and yes my plan includes SMS & MMS. I tried something I saw in the forum concerning enabling the "show subject field" and for some strange reason, I am able to send messages after trying this. Seems strange, I am going to disable this "show subject field" and see if it will work or not. SMS should work regardless of if this option is active shouldn't it?
    Thanks

  • Will Apple cover my factory unlocked iphone 3GS anywhere in the world?

    Hello,
I'm planning on buying a factory unlocked iphone 3GS directly from the Apple Store in Hong Kong.
Will Apple cover my iphone with the warranty worldwide or only in Hong Kong?
    Thank you.

What I meant to say is that technically, hardware-wise, almost all iphones 3GS are the same (I believe the models in mainland China don't have GPS?).
It's no WiFi in China. GPS used to be illegal in Egypt, but they changed the law recently.
Correct me if I'm wrong but I suppose that the carrier lock is a software lock, which can be removed (we've all heard about it), but gets reversed once you update to a new OS version.
Carriers can ask Apple to unlock particular phones. The next time the iPhone is restored via iTunes, new firmware will be downloaded from Apple and will display a message saying it has been unlocked. It will stay unlocked if updated. Unofficial unlocks (which can not be done on current iPhones) will re-lock if the iPhone is updated.
I know it is the way it is, but I believe most of you would agree that if you buy a telephone, you shouldn't be forced to go with one carrier or another. That is why when I pay for an unlocked phone, I pay much more, go get the freedom (without hacks) to choose the carrier I want (where in contrast I pay much less for calls and internet than with the exclusive iphone carrier).
It would be much easier for Apple if all iPhones were unlocked, and the same in all countries, but the carriers make a fortune from their exorbitant roaming charges, so where the country's laws allow, insist that Apple not make any unlocked iPhones available in their countries.
By the way, MMS is not something most people use. There are some statistics on the internet about the ratio of SMS to MMS and it was something like 10 to 1.
All the 3G and 3GS iPhones are capable of MMS, but the carriers have to support it.
