Fade causes distortion

I'm trying out Soundbooth and find that when I add a fade to a track, it creates a high pitched distortion.  The harder the fade, the worse the distortion.  At first I thought it was the Dell soundcard, but it does the same when I use an external audio interface.
For the internal card, I used the WDM driver, and for the external enterface I used the ASIO driver.
Any ideas?

Can you be more specific as to what you're doing and what this sound is?  For example, are you just using the fade in/out controls on the waveform to create a fade?  Do you just hear this artifact in playback mode, or is it actually being written to the file and audible if you play the new file in a different application?  Is the sound only audible for the period of the fade, or does it affect the entire file?

  • Bass causing distorted so

Hello,?I have a X-Fi Elite card with the Gigaworks S750 speaker system. For some reason lately i have been having problems with my bass. Normally the bass would be excellent, crystal clear, etc, but now it seems to be very very deep, almost too deep, and it causes distortion in whatever i am playing because of this. I have looked high and low through all my settings, and nothing i can think of has changed. I even reset all settings to default and tried again, to no avail. It's getting very annoying now, i even had to turn off Crystalizer because turning that off seemed to reduce the problem very slightly. Has anyone else had this problem? I would love my old sound back again.

Disable the "Memory Remapping" and "Disable execution bit" features in your BIOS if you can. This will disable the PAE kernal in Windows and should rectify the issue 00%.

  • Does moving 'Volume Adjustment' slider up (to the right) cause distortion?

Bought a lot of songs on iTunes and also imported several hundred CDs. Want to adjust the volume on some to boost the quiet tracks and lower the loud ones so everything plays at basically the same volume. Don't want to use Sound Check. Does moving the "Volume Adjustment" slider up (to the right) under "Options" in "Get Info" cause distortion? Hoping it's more like what the name says - just a boost to the playback only volume for that one track and doesn't cause the original digital recording to go into the red.

    Check out -> iVolume
    Works great.

    It can easily do this.

  • PLEASE help - Elements 8 forcing 16:9 to a 4:3 layout causing distortion

I'm so frustrated with Elements 8 that it's actually starting to make me feel ill now...!
I've been trying for the last four hours to make a simple six minute movie on Adobe Elements 8. I won't bore you with all the details of the intense frustration of using this program (mainly to do with massive massive PC useage which causes the whole thing to crawl along making every task take four times longer than it should) but having finally acheived getting the thing edited and saved it's managed to convert what started out as a widescreen video into 4:3, so everythig is squeezed and distorted.
I've tried everythig in the save area to do it differently, but no joy.
Having researched it as best I could (not easy) I find that there are settings before you save. Basically there are two that apply to me:
    PAL DV Standard
    PAL DV Widescreen
Both squeeze the movie into 4:3.
I've used this program before and got Widescreen in, widescreen out no problems, but not any more.
I've tried searching the help menus, I've tried finding a way to contact Adobe, but total blank.
    Can anyone pleas please help?

Thank you. Adobe forums won't let me copy and paste the question and I've just about lost the will to live with this one after five hours now.
I know that sounds pathetic but it's just ground me down to nothing.
    I give up.

  • DTT2200 center cable causes distortion

I have had a set of DTT2200 for a while now and they have been generally good. Yesterday though I transported them five hours and plugged them into my brothers audigy card and have a weird problem.
When I plug only the green and black in, the creative speaker test is crystal clear for both fronts and both rears. When I plug in the centre cable I immediately get a loud distortion in the subwoofer, the center speaker starts hissing loudly, and during the speaker test ALL 5 speakers are hissing and sound like the poor test woman has her head down a toilet.
All 5 speakers are fine, i've checked them in different spots, and as i said with only front and rears plugged in it is crystal clear.
Near as i can figure it it has to be one or all of three things
    1) My brothers centre socket on his audigy is stuffed
    2) The cable/connector is stuffed
    3) Something came loose inside the subwoofer and now it's stuffed
I realise my speakers are old now and most people will just say "get a new set and get over it", but if anyone has ideas it would be appreciated.

There are a few threads discussing this and a couple of different things that may be causing it. If its really loud noises like explosions etc that only seem to cause it you probably have the same problem that I do.. you can't adjust the volume of the spdif input, and when the xbox plays loud noises your sound card is clipping it badly. I've posted my 2 cents on it at the end of this thread:

  • MacPro causing distorted video

I am having problems with my MacPro outputting to my TV.
I use a 32" Philips LCD TV as my primary display, and is connected via DVI to HDMI cable. previously i had been using an iMac 20" to connect using the same TV and same cable (with added miniDVI to DVI adaptor). This resulted in no problems at all.
But now with the new MacPro connected instead.....I am getting video distortions occasionally. It looks like the video is not refreshing fast enough and i see a weird horizontal distortion bar run across an area of screen for a second and then its fine again for a while.
Any ideas on how to resolve?
i have SL set to 1080i for screen resolution which should be correct too.

I notice you started another thread with the same question as before (word for word!).

I would ask in Logic Pro Discussion (I couldn't find anything on a quick search) except for:
    Video dropouts
Anyone using Mac Pro for more than very light or casual use, I would strongly recommend 4GB RAM. Apple even goes so far as to say that with FCP, it is essential for performance to have a 4 x 1GB (2 x 1GB on each Riser) to enable full 256-bit quad-channel memory bandwidth. The other part, to make good use of four internal drive bays.
Would the Radeon X1900 offer any benefits, though?

  • Nik Complete plug-ins causing distorted screens in Aperture2

I have recently downloaded the suite of applications by Nik software that run within Aperture 2 on a trial basis.
    Has anyone had this issue??
Most of the time when I hit Z to zoom in on the picture to see the effects of Dfine or some of the other effects I get a B&W screen that has horizontal / diagonal stripes on my screens. Is this a trial plug-in problem? I called Nik Software to address this with them. They were scratching there head. I also had a similar issue with a trial version of Noise Ninja as well. I like what these programs can do . . . however distorted screen during 100% preview (hitting Z key) does not work!
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks for your response.

well, I tried several times again.
The bug appears only when I use "crop" or "straighten" before use a nik plugins.
in this case we can remember that and before use a nik plugins and successively crop or straight the image. it's all.

  • Extracted audio caused distortion in video timing

    i need help!
i am making a music video for class.
from the edit menu i chose select all and then extracted audio, so that I could go in individually to each clip and delete the audio i did not need. when i tried to do a test delete and played the clip back the audio was gone like i wanted, but the song and the video were totally out of sync and my computer froze up and just played a bleep of sound here and showed a random clip there.
it took forever to unfreeze. it is still out of sync even after restarting my computer. the audio is still extracted from all the clips but the video and audio are still totally out of sync. I'm thinking if I could just unextract all the audio or revert it back to the original...that would solve the problem, but it will not let me do so?
some of the audio files are still available in my trash including audio for the whole video.
    any suggestions?

    Welcome to iMovie Discussions.
'Extracting' audio just copies it and puts it in an audio track underneath the video, and then silences the original sound within the video clip. So it does two jobs, instead of just silencing the audio.
To silence audio within a clip, just click on the little clock, at lower left, to show the full Timeline view, and then in the Menu at the top of the screen use 'View' and 'Show Clip Volume Levels'. You can then select a clip, and click on the little loudspeaker icon, alongside the volume level "Clip: 100%".
Your audio going out of sync sounds more like iMovie 4 rather than iMovie5/HD. But if your hard disc is close to being full on the iBook, that can cause problems for iMovie.
To fix things, you could try the following:
    (1) As your audio should now be in separate audio clips beneath the video, you should be able to click on and then slide ('drag') your audio clips to line them up with the appropriate video, then use Apple+'L' to Lock the audio to the relevant video.
    (2) As all the original audio remains within the video clips, but it's just had its volume reduced to zero during the 'Extraction', you could select the video clips, and return their volume up to 100% with that little volume slider at the bottom of the screen. When you've done that, UN-TICK (un-check) the little boxes at the extreme right which switches on or off the sound from the audio track(s), so that only the video track is ticked, and try playing the video: all the audio should now be back. If that plays OK, you can then just delete all the separate audio in the track(s) beneath, then Save your project. Then re-tick (check) the audio track boxes again, so that they're not disabled.
The original audio should now be restored, and you can do what you like with it. But it's always better to just reduce to zero any sound you don't want, rather than duplicating it - by 'Extracting' - and then just silencing the original ..and possibly the duplicate. That doubles the work which your Mac has to do during playback ..as it has to keep looking for the separate audio instructions, in its master project file, as well as playing back the video.
So (a) make sure that you've LOTS of spare space on your iBook, and (b) don't strain it too much by giving it too much to do, and (c) things may go smoother if you keep your video projects on a separate, fast (5400rpm or faster) FireWire hard disc (formatted as 'Mac OS Extended' or 'HFS+') plugged in to the iBook, rather than on the iBook's internal disc, and (d) make sure that you have no other programs running when you're editing with iMovie ..as iMovie needs as much of the Mac's attention as possible, and may be sluggish on a slow Mac if there are other programs running.
    Hope this helps..

  • Sound Enhancer Causes Distortion

Recently, I found that a number of songs in my iTunes library sound distorted in certain parts. When I disable Sound Enhancer, the distortion disappears. Unfortunately, it returns when I re-enable Sound Enhancer. This may be a bug in iTunes 8. I don't remember this problem occurring in earlier versions.
Does anyone else have this problem? Is there a workaround?

Holy cow, thanks for the tip on this. My entire music library has sounded distorted for the longest time (yes since long before iTunes 8), and I already went through at least 2 rounds of speakers.
But I have a nice set of Logitech THX surround speakers which sound great, and now that I play lots of DVDs on my speakers, as well as watch TV shows through EyeTV, the sound is incredible. I came to realize that the distortion only occurs via iTunes, not via my speakers.
So I searched online and found your post. Turned off Sound Enhancer and distortion is gone! Wow, thanks for this!
Sorry I am not answering your question but I like the way it sounds without this so-called "enhancer."

  • What is causing distorted clips when creating a DVD

I'm creating a new thread because the solution has still not been found. I cut the length of IM 08 to under 115 minutes & imported new copies of the affected clips into the project but there are still the same 3 clips that look like someone is censoring them. I do not know how to deinterlace the video or what JES & FCP mean, which were previously suggested. The video is absolutely fine when I run it with QT. What else can I do? Thanks

There are limitations on the kind of help we can give via a message board like this. We only know what you tell us and can only slowly lead you through a question/answer cycle. Often the process is successful, but sometimes it isn't.
What is the source of your video and what encoding is used. (Open the movie in Quicktime and do a Window>Show movie inspector. (The words may be different with the Quicktime X player.) What video and audio format information is shown?
I still don't know what you are seeing when you say "clips that look like someone is censoring them". In your other posting you said "For some reason, in various spots the picture starts disintegrating like the censor blocking body parts on TV only at various spots of a picture and various points of the movie." That, to ME, sounds like a media or burner issue.
BTW, JES is the JES Deinterlacer at http://www.xs4all.nl/~jeschot/home.html#DEI

  • Fade and distorted sound on KT880 board

Anyone have problem with the onboard sound on KT880 delta?? My sound is very very faded and only one speaker is working.. tried uninstalling and installing but all still the same.. everything shows no fault.. pls help

Install the sound drivers while in SafeMode. How many speakers? How many speakers is the sound cards interface expecting. You might also chech Windows ControlPanel's settings for sound, so it is the same.

  • Center text in table column expanding and distorting side columns

Anyone out there that can help me with this, I would appreciate it. I've created the table for this web page in photoshop and sliced it up. The center column is were the body of the text is displayed as you can see from the screen shot. The body text on some of the pages extends below the design of the page. This is dependent on how much content I have of course. If the text continues below the table parameters, the outer cells stretch out, causing separation of the sliced images in the side columns, as you can see in the other screen shot. This only happens in I.E. of course. In safari the table has no problems.
Is there any way to get this under control in I.E? I have tried everything that I can think of. I have battled with this for far too long now.
Any Help would really be appreciated
    Thanks,
    Duncan

Would really need to see the code to see the extent of the damage Photoshop html has caused. This is a typical problem when exporting html from Photoshop OR trying to assemble the slices into one gigantic table where the cells have been split and merged numerous times which causes distortion.
The idea, looking at your page, would be to insert a simple 3 column x 1 row table into Dreamweaver then insert the components that make up your page into their realtive columns. Using this simple construction method will ensure that all the page elements remain seperate and cannot interact with other element in different cells, which is what is NOT happening in your construction at the moment.

  • How do I apply timestamp and barrel distortion correction together?

Hi guys! My first time posting a question here and I hope to get your sound advice on this editing challenge. At the moment I am using Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 and FastStone Image viewer to do some image and video editing. I am using GoPro Hero 3 HD cam to take photos at certain time interval and then combine then it into a timelapse video. The capture settings are 7mp at medium angle. I know the GoPro take pictures at 12 mp W, but as you know the GoPro is notorious for barrel distortion, so at higher settings, it's even worse.
I am tasked with both correcting barrel distortion and adding timestamp feature on my timelapse videos. I've used the FastStone Image viewer to add time stamp or Premiere CS6 to correction distortion. However, I've been unable to do both at the same time. Now I know that the CS6 has some sort of timecode feature that allows time stamp to be shown, however my time timestamp data needs to be extracted from the original meta data, whereas the timecode feature in CS6 only shows just the total length of the video, not the original date and time when data was captured. Using the FastStone allows me to show a real progression of time on data capture from beginning to end (I am working JPEG images in this case).
Now because FastStone extract the timestamp data from original images and shows them in text label format, when I tried to apply the lens correction on CS6, it would also cause distortion in the text label itself. I've tried the other way too, where I've corrected the barrel distortion in CS6 then imported the images to FastStone, but then I would lose the original metadata (the date and time of capture), FastStone is then forced to work with the modified date and time. Now usually I am working with anywhere from 1000 to 3000 images, and FastStone allows the timestamp to be added in batch conversion. It also has this feature to change time stamp to a desired or specific date and time, however, this cannot be done in a batch, but rather on individual frame or image, and thus isn't very practical when I am working with thousands of images.
So my question is if there's any way I can combine both barrel distortion and timestamp (which is using the capture data)? Thanks guys.

Thanks guys! Turns out it's CS6 is intuitive, I can just combine the two sequences into a single sequence with two different tracks with crop effect superimposed. However, it seems with the distortion correction and crop effect added, I am losing some of the details of original sequence without the distortion correction applied. What tools in CS6 can I use to get some of the clarity and vibrant colors back?

  • Distorted bass

    Hello,
I'm using iTunes 10.5.1 on an iMAC. About three months ago I noticed that in order for my songs to sound OK (but, not really good, just OK), I had to select "bass reducer" in the equalizer. If I do not, the bass sound quality is extremely poor. I can describe it best as an exaggerated, distorted, fuzzy sound. It never used to be this way. There is nothing I can recall that I did to change the system, etc. I use inexpensive JBL speakers, but they were always adequate. Something has changed; I cannot figure it out.  Do speakers go bad?
    Suggestions?
    Thanks a lot,
    Richard

Try adjusting a few things. First, try turning off the Sound Enhancer (iTunes->Preferences->Playback, uncheck Sound Enhancer). Also, try futzing with the Equalizer; try it at Flat and have the Preamp set to 0, if it's not there (or just uncheck the On box) and see if that makes any difference.
(it's possible that those things can cause distortion; doesn't always happen, but it's the first things I'd check).
