Fade Correction in PSE 7

My scanned photos are slightly faded by the process. Corel Paint shop pro has a feature called Fade correction under the color correction tab.
Is there anything similar in PSE7? I don't wish to simply darken the whole photo. I will resent having to purchase Corel's version simply for scanning and correcting the fade.

Try these ways to improve a dull or faded picture -
method 1
1. Add a Levels (or Brightness/Contrast or Hue/Saturation) adjustment layer but without any adjustments.
2. Set the new layer's blending mode to Multiply.
3. Adjust the new layer's opacity to get desired result.
4. Paint with black to hide the change and paint with white to restore the change.
method 2
1. Duplicate the Background layer, and set it blend mode to Overlay.
2. Add an Invert adjustment layer and set its mode to Overlay.
3. Merge down the Invert layer to the duplicate layer. This adds more luminance to what's already there.
4. Adjust the merged layer's opacity to get desired result.

  • Action steps that won't run correctly in PSE 7/8/9 (but did in 4 and 6)

    I have a wonderful action that was written to work in PSE 3/4/6.  It won't run in PSE 7/8/9.  After fooling around for a while, I think I understand why.  Adobe changed the way Adjustment Layers are handled.  In earlier versions of Photoshop and Elements, Adjustment Layers threw up a modal dialog box.  That changed so that Adjustment Layers now appear in the Palette Bin as a palette.
    Here a sample of some of the action steps that won't work correctly:
    Make adjustment layer
    Using: adjustment layer
    Type: levels
    Set Selection
    To: none
    Set current layer
    To: layer
    Name:  “Adjustment 1”
    Set current layer
    To: layer
    Mode: luminosity
    Stop
    Message:  “Move gray slider left”
    With Continue
    Set current adjustment layer
    To: levels
    In earlier versions of PS and PSE, the way these steps would work is that a new adjustment layer would be created, the dialog box giving the instruction would open, it would be dismissed by clicking "Continue," and then the "Set current adjustment layer to: Levels" would generate a model adjustment layer dialog box would open up which would let one make the adjustment.
    In newer versions, since Adjustment Layers are handled in the Palette Bin, after dismissing the instructions, the action doesn't stop to allow the user to make change the sliders on the adjustment layer.
    The action runs perfectly in CS4 and CS5 and throws up the levels adjustment modal box as it did in PSE 4 and PSE 6, but the action doesn't throw the modal box in PSE 7/8/9
    Does anyone know of a way to alter the action steps to allow the action to stop to allow the adjustment and then to resume again?

    Adding a new levels adjustment layer on top of the Midtone contrast layer
    should work, just use a clipping mask to restrict the adjustments to the
    areas of the levels adjustment layer below. The histogram will be different, but
    actually testing the action is really the only way to know if that makes any difference.
    Replacing the levels adjustment layer is another option, though it requires a few more steps.
    The following assumes when the action gets to this point,
    the Midtone contrast adjustment layer is the active (selected) layer.
    To record this part of the action:
    1. Duplicate current channel (in the channels panel. drag the Midtone contrast mask
        down to the Create new channel icon at the bottom of the channels panel)
    2. Ctrl+click on the newly created channel (Midtone contrast mask copy)
        This loads the selection of that channel.
    3. Drag the new channel (midtone contrast mask copy) to the trash icon at the bottom
       of the channels panel.
    4. Back in the layers panel, delete the Midtone Contrast adjustment layer.
    5. Go to Layer>New Adjustment Layer>Levels
        This creates a new levels adjustment layer using the selection loaded from
        the duplicated channel and opens the levels dialog.
    To load the RGB (composite) as a selection, Ctrl+click on the rgb in the channels panel
    and the same is true for the red, green and blue channels.
    With layer masks, elements doesn't seem to want to load them as selections in actions,
    so that's the reason for the action steps above.

  • How do I make keystone distortion corrections in PSE 12?

    The keystone correctio

    In recent versions you still have the options in the menu Image/Transform. You also have the filter correct camera distortion to correct perspective.

  • Lens corrections in PSE raw

    I cannot determine whether lens corrections work in ACR 6.4 using Elements 9. I know the lens correction tab is not available - but does that mean no lens corrections are applied at all - or does it simply mean I cannot manipulate the correction beyond the default provided in ACR?

    ACR will use whatever the ACR default is for the specific camera the raw file is from.  I say this because with ACR 7, at least, you can enable Auto-CA (a manual lens correction) as the default for a particular camera when using ACR with PSE10, by editing the ACR camera-defaults file with a text editor.
    Here is what I did on Windows 7 to enable Auto-CA for my brother who does not use LR nor PS, only PSE:
    1) Open a new RAW image for the camera you are wanting to affect the settings of in PSE/ACR that has never had any edits done.
    2) Go to the Camera Calibration tab in ACR (a black camera icon) and change the Process Version to 2012—this will update the camera-defaults file to have PV2012 values which include the Auto-CA.  You can skip this step if you are using an older version of PSE.
    3) Click the 3-dots-three-lines icon at the right of where it says Camera Calibration, and choose Save New Camera Raw Defaults from the bottom of the menu that pops up.  This step will create a or update the camera-specific ACR-defaults file for your computer user.
    4) Exit ACR with Cancel, and Exit PSE.
    5) Using Windows Explorer, browse to the following folder under your user folder:  c:\Users\yourusername\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\CameraRaw\Defaults\
    The AppData folder is hidden so you may need to type this part into Explorer’s address bar.
    6) In the Defaults sub-folder there should be one or more files named:  Default_somehexdigits.XMP.
    7) Open each of these XMP files and find the one that matches the camera the raw file was from.  The value of the crs:KeyString attribute is the camera name.
    8) Further down in this XMP file, look for several lens-correction-specific attributes and change them to be the following:
           crs:LensProfileEnable=”1”
           crs:AutoLateralCA=”1”
           crs:LensProfileSetup=”LensDefaults”
    The other parameters for Vignetting and Perspective are for manual adjustments and you don’t want to set these other than “0” for your defaults although you can set them for an individual image by editing its XMP file.
    9) Save the XMP file.
    10) Start up PSE and open a new RAW file and see that the lens-distortion and Lateral-CA has been corrected as much as the auto-correction can do.

    How can I correct the PSE catalog to clear up the drive and serial number warnings and reconnect my catalog to the photo files?
    Thanks.
    Steve

    Try reconnecting just one of the photos that was originally on the C drive.   In the reconnect dialog, are you able to browse to the new location of the photo on the M drive and identify it's thumbnail?   If so, what happens when you try to reconnect to that file?   If there's an error message, what is the precise message?
    Looking at the "psedbtool" output, it's possible that PSE may be getting confused by the following situation: The drive currently called L used to be called M, and the catalog records M in its volume table, and there is now another drive currently called M.  PSE sometimes uses the drive letter written in its catalog and sometimes uses the drive's volume serial number.   When the current drive letter associated with a volume serial number doesn't match what's in the catalog, PSE can get confused.
    So two suggestions:
    1. Go back to the original PC and use the backup/restore method to move your photos from the old to the new computer:
    http://www.johnrellis.com/psedbtool/photoshopelements-6-7-faq.htm#_Move_your_photos_1
    I strongly recommend this method, since it is more likely to succeed in the face of all the drive-handling bugs in PSE.   After doing the restore, use Display > Folder Location view to rearrange the heirarchy or move parts of it to other drives.
    2. Reassign the drive letter of the current M (6892-2C47) to something different, e.g. O.   Then reassign the drive letter of the current L to be M, so it matches what's in the catalog:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307844
    This may likely solve your problem, but I can't say 100%.

  • Does the camera distortion correction filter in Elements 12 have automatic settings I can disable?

    I have found that the filter makes automatic changes to images.   For example, if I correct a vignette with no sturctural sliders touched, then save the setting, the image appears in my editing window signifcantly altered with altered barrel configurations.  So, I have to redo and compensate or just forget about it.  This is not a problem with an image I want to correct--architectural, for instance.  But, who wants to start fixing issues that the software is creating?  I would like to disable this but have not found a setting yet.  Thanks.

    As far as i know, the auto correction in pse 12's correct camera distortion filter can't be disabled.
    One way around it would be to strip all the info from your file.
    Open your image, then go to File>New>Blank File and from the Preset list click on the name of the document.
    Go back to your original, Select>All and then Edit>Copy
    In the new blank document, Edit>Paste and Layer>Flatten Image
    Then hopefully when you open your new document into Filter>Correct Camera Distortion, no auto correction is applied

  • Fade button label

    Hi, plase help me!
    I've applied a fade effect to a component that contains a
    button and some other children. All the component fades correctly
    and the button fades too, but not its label. I think that it's an
    embedded fonts problem. So I've embedded a font:
    @font-face {
    src:local("Arial");
    font-family: ArialEmbedded;
    advanced-anti-aliasing: true;
    Button
    embedFonts: true;
    font-family: ArialEmbedded;
    font-size: 13;
    After this operation the font-size of the button label
    matches, but not the font-family! The system default font-family
    persists!
    How can I embed fonts in button components? If I cannot fix
    this issue, I think that I cannot fade the button together with its
    label!
    Thanks

    Fixed, I had to embed the bold version of the font, because
    button labels are bold!
    So, the finally code is:
    @font-face {
    src:local("Arial");
    font-family: ArialEmbedded;
    advanced-anti-aliasing: true;
    font-weight:bold;
    @font-face {
    src:local("Arial");
    font-family: ArialEmbedded;
    advanced-anti-aliasing: true;
    font-weight:normal;
    Button
    embedFonts: true;
    font-family: ArialEmbedded;
    font-size: 13;
    All buttons will use the bold ArialEmbedded to render their
    label!

  • Why is this image scrambled in PSE?

    While downloading images of the Olympics to use as wallpaper, I ran across this image that will not open correctly in PSE, and I'm just wondering why.
    I tried it several times, then resorted to opening it in Preview, saved it as a jpg., then finally opened that in PSE (to edit).
    I copied the file using right click > save image as, and then in PSE I used File > new image from clipboard. The image that appears is indecipherable.
    Here's the image link: http://l.yimg.com/os/publish-images/sports/2014-02-07/151f1cb0-902f-11e3-af9e-c7c48465647e _467611907.jpg

    I used right-click Copy Image from Chrome and File > New Image from Clipboard in PSE10 on Windows 7 and it worked just fine.
    Perhaps you needed to have clearned your browser's cache in case a slightly corrupted version got downloaded, initially.
    Or maybe there is some other app that is also watching the clipboard and it is interfering or couldn't handle that large of an image.

  • Photoshop Album 1.0: How do I reconnect 350 "edited pictures" showing as disconnected files?

    I purchased and downloaded PS Elements 13 64-bit Win7 from the Adobe website to a new Dell Inspirion 64-bit with Win 7 Pro.  I have previously been using a registered copy of Photoshop Album 1.0 and Photoshop Elements 2.0 since 2005.  The most recent use was on a computer running Windows 7 Pro operating system using the virtual XP to run PSE.  That computer was fried by a lightning strike.  However, I retrieved the hard drive in good working order with files intact.  I am currently running the PSE program on an old PC with XP and accessing the picture files (9,600) on the old hard drive attached as an external J: drive.  My goal is to transfer all picture files to the new Dell Inspirion where the new PSE 13 resides.  I couldn’t get the PSE 2.0 program to access the picture files!
    I finally figured out how to use MS Access to change the drive reference to J:/.
    1) there were a number of line items that seemed to be anomalies in the Access table.  Could these be a cause for the following disconnects?
    It seemed that I was about prepared to transition to the new computer and PSE 13, but then after opening PSE 2.0, I found I still had about 350 disconnected files (indicated by a “?” in place of the pic icon).  I then determined that most, if not all of the disconnects, had one thing in common: they were all “edited pictures” and obviously some of my most valued pictures.  I have started to reconnect them one at a time, but it’s very time consuming!
    2) Is there a more efficient way to accomplish these reconnections?
    If I understand it correctly, the PSE acts like a card catalog in the library where it simply references the actual location of the original and/or edited files.
    3) Ultimately, how do I transfer all the reconnected pictures and the associated files and folders to the new computer?
    Thanks for any advice or assistance you can offer!
    <edited by admin to be readable>

    Thanks for your quick response.  I respectfully question with your conclusion that I am in the wrong forum!  Adobe Photoshop Album v 1.0 is the specific program I have used for nine years and that is the program I just reopened to verify it's title and that is the program wherein all the Adobe advice is to reconnect all my files before proceeding to convert to Photoshop Elements 13.  The original box describes it as "The fast and easy way to organize and share your lifetime of photos." My apologies for even mentioning the Photoshop Elements 2.0 (the original box describes it as "image-editing software" which I seldom ever used.  Apparently the functions of PSA & PSE has changed over the many versions, as I first went to the Elements forum and  I can't seem to find anyone in the PSE forum to offer any help.  Is Photoshop forum not the forum that would deal with Photoshop Album? There is a forum I see for Photoshop Album Starter Edition, but a quick review of messages seems to relate to something more recent than my product which is not entitled Starter Edition.  Thanks for any clarification in getting me to the right forum if this is not it!

  • Move photos from old PC running Adobe Photoshop Album 2.0 starter edition, to new PC running Adobe Photoshop Elements 8.

    Hello,
    My old PC (Windows XP) has 8500+ photos with loads of tags attached using Adobe Photoshop Album 2.0 starter edition.
    I'm trying to move all photos, and tags, to my new PC (Windows 7) . I have installed Adobe Photoshop Elements 8 on my new PC.
    All photos have been copied from the hard disk on the old PC to the hard disk on the new PC.
    But how do I move the database/tag information between the old and new PC / between' Photoshop Album 2.0 starter edition' and 'Photoshop Elements 8'?
    All help is highly appreciated, as I really don't want to add all this valuable tag information manually...

    function(){return A.apply(null,[this].concat($A(arguments)))}
    All tags are correct, but PSE automatically reconnected only approx 5000 of the approx 8500 pictures (the picture directory has been changed)

  • Organizer crashes when moving photos to another directory

    Shortly after upgrading (?) from PSE 7 to PSE 8, i discovered that my catalog had become corrupted.  When viewing photos by folder location, many photos are shown as being in an incorrect folder in the directory tree on the left.  The correct location is shown in the Properties panel.  If I try to move the photo to the correct folder by dragging it to the correct folder PSE crashes in both PSE 7 and PSE 8.
    I tried to repair the catalog (File/Catalog/Repair), but no problems were found or fixed.
    Any other ideas other than removing the photos from the catalog and re cataloging them?  If I do that, will I loose tags, comments, dates, etc?
    Thanks, Don

    http://www.johnrellis.com/psedbtool/photoshop-elements-faq.htm#_Folder_Location_view
    The easiest solution is to stop using Folder Location View. Use tags and metadata to find photos.
    Re-importing photos into the catalog is not recommended, as you will lose all of your version sets, stacks, collections, creations, and a few other things. Tags, captions and notes are only available upon re-import if you tell PSE to write them to the files before you do the re-import (and because of a bug in PSE, this is not a reliable operation, especially if you have Raw photos)

  • Correctin camera distortion in Camera raw with PSE8

    I have a question,
    In PS CS3 when i open a RAW file from bridge, i can correct Camera distortion (lens distortion) for example Lens vignetting in the raw converter CAmera Raw .
    There is a TAB with this options.
    Now i downloaded (for another computer) PSE 8 with bridge for CS4
    When i open a RAW file from bridge in Camera Raw 5.5 there is not the option anymore for correcting the camera(lens) distortion.
    Is this because it is a trial version or is this because it is PSE in stead of Photoshop CS?
    does anybody know this?
    I like to know before i buy PSE 8
    I know i can correct in PSE itself but then i need to do for every photo itself and not in batch
