Fade in at beginning of iMovie video, how to get rid of it?

Hi
So I am trying to make a video on Imovie but the first and last clip fade in and out from black, how do I get rid of this because I want to start on a jumpcut

iMovie 9 and 10 should not put a fade to/from black in automatically, Unless transitions have been added at the start and end, the fades must be in the clips themselves.
So either remove the added fades or don't use the fade portions of the clips.  (Select clip and drag the side handle in as necessary to remove the fade part).
Which version of iMovie are you using?
Geoff.

    Niel,
Thanks for your suggestion about using RCDefaultApp. I am hesitating to do this because it seems like I'd be installing still another piece of software to fix the original mistake---downloading Reader.
About 20 years ago I maintained---with considerable handholding---UNIX systems of various sorts. Can you suggest how I might find the plist that seems to require changing?
BTW, Preview is called whenever I open some random .pdf file. The problem appears when I want to get a file from the web. If the site permits a "download" I can get the file, but if I want to "view and print" the file, the evil dark-grey Adobe screen appears with the whirling black ball. Then Safari quits. I'm wondering if the reference to Reader is in a "cookie" sent from the website, when I first was installing Reader. Is this possible?

  • How to get rid of widescreen

I use a miniDV camcorder in a 4:3 format. It has a widescreen feature, but all it does is to crop top and the bottom of the picture and replace them with letterbox. It is not a natural widescreen.
Any clip I import into iMovie gets stretched out into wide screen. When I export into iWeb, movie is also stretched out. I have to do a custom export and give it proper size. That would not be the major problem
The major problem is that if the movie is stretched out in iMovie and i import any pictures from iPhoto (pillarboxing makes no difference here!!!!!!) the picture is correct, while the movie is stretched out. Now, if I happen to export it into 4:3 format, the movie becomes natural 4:3 again, but the picture is now very narrow (squeezed). So, I have to go to Photoshop, stretch the picture into anticipated widescreen import into iMovie and pray that the movie and the picture will eventually be rendered in a correct ratio in the end. that's NOT acceptable.
Is there any way as to how to get rid of widescreen adn work in 4:3 ratio? I would appreciate it. Spending 3k on a widescreen hd cam? sorry, but I'm not that **** bent on doing digi video........
iMovie is a great app with tons of features, but combining a 4:3 video with pictures in 4:3 format doesn't mix together. Again: pillarboxing preference checkbox makes ZERO difference on the imported clip - it's still stretched out. Am I missing something?

Also make sure to uncheck the "iMovie HD/Preferences.../Import/Automatic DV Pillarboxing & Letterboxing" if you still have problems.

  • How to get rid of the java update virus?

Everytime i go on a web page something pops up saying to install Java Runtime Environment in order to web content and it gives me the option to click more info (to go to the page to download the Java Runtime Environment) OR ok. Before i clicked ok until it continued to pop and and began to annoy me so i decided to install it. It still pops up and won't go away. I found out it is a virus and i don't know how to get rid of it.
    PLEASE HELP!

Most likely, you have a web plugin that depends on the Java runtime distributed by Apple, such as the Facebook video calling plugin or the "NexDef" plugin for watching baseball streams. If you no longer need the plugin, remove it. Otherwise, install Java.

  • A friend gave me an older Nano 3rd generation. Can anyone tell me how to delete what is on there and how to get rid of his name. It does not connect to my itunes. I cannot even find the source or the place to restore it as suggested in the owners manual.

I have a 3rd generation ipod that a friend gave me. I cannot find anything on how to get rid of his name and music on it. This is what the owners manual says:
"Select ipod nano in the soiurce list and click the summary tab" I cannot find the source or the summary tab on itunes. Can any one help me? I would like to delete everything on it and start over but I am afraid I cannot add anything back on it. I know this is detailed and a lot, but I really need help.

    Restore
Note: Because Restore erases all of the songs and files on iPod, make sure toback up any files you've saved on the iPod disk. All of your songs, videos, podcasts, audiobooks, and games can be loaded back to your iPod provided that you have them stored in your iTunes Library.
How to restore your iPod:For Windows:
    1. Make sure you've reinstalled the latest version of iTunes.
    2. Open iTunes, and then connect your iPod to your computer.
    3. After a few moments, it will appear in the source list in iTunes. If the iPod's display doesn't show "Connected" or "Do not disconnect" you may need to put the iPod into disk mode to proceed.
    4. Select your iPod in the source list and you will see information about it appear in the Summary tab of the main iTunes windows.
    5. Click the Restore button. You will be prompted with one or more restore options that may prompt iTunes to automatically download of the latest iPod Software. The 4 possible restore options are:
Restore Option 1: Restore - Restores with same iPod Software version already on iPod.
Restore Option 2: Use Same Version - Restores with same iPod Software version already on iPod even though a newer version is available.
Restore Option 3: Use Newest Version - Restores with the latest iPod Software on your computer.
Restore Option 4: Restore and Update - Restores with the latest iPod Software on your computer.
    6. A progress bar will appear on the computer screen indicating that the first stage of the restore process has started. When this stage is completed, iTunes will instruct you to leave iPod connected to your computer to complete restore.
    7. During the stage 2 of the restore process, the iPod will show an Apple logo as well as a progress bar at the bottom of the display. It is critical that the iPod remains connected to the computer or iPod Power adapter during this stage. Note: The progress bar may be difficult to see since the backlight on the iPod display may be off.
    8. After stage 2 of the restore process is complete and the iPod is connected to the computer, the iTunes Setup Assistant window will appear asking you to name your iPod and choose your syncing preferences similar to when you connected your iPod for the first time.
    For Mac:

Restore Option 4: Restore and Update - Restores with latest iPod Software version on your computer.
    6. A message will appear prompting you to enter an administrator's name and password.
    7. A progress bar will appear on the computer screen indicating that the first stage of the restore process has started. When this stage is completed, iTunes will instruct you to leave iPod connected to your computer to complete restore.

Hello, I have un Ipod classic of 160GB. On my itunes it displays that I have 113gb of other that occupies my memories! what is this other and how I get rid of it?

"Other" is the measure of used space on the iPod not taken up by Audio, Video & Photos. This includes the iPod's library and artwork plus any files you may have copied to your iPod in disk mode. The overhead for the library & artwork data is typically 1-2% of the size of the media, e.g. for 1Gb of Audio & Video expect to have around 15mb of "Other". This information is needed for the iPod's operation and cannot be removed.
If you have significantly larger amounts of "Other", not related to files you've intentionally placed on the iPod, then these are probably disconnected copies of your media files or iPod libraries left over from failed sync operations. The only way to recover the space is to do a full restore.
If you have copies of all your media in your iTunes library this isn't a problem, but if you've been manually managing the content then you might need to try to recover the files from it first. See this post by forum regular Zevoneer on transferring files from the iPod to your computer. Some of the tools rely on the iPod having a healthy library however the manual method mentioned towards the end of the post should work regardless.

  • I've an iMac with OS X 10.4.11. Sudden email problem: every received email has, after the header, 1 - 2 pages of technical data (e.g., Dkim-Signature, Domainkey-Signature, etc.) I don't know why this now happening, and I don't know how to get rid of it.

I have an iMac using OS X 10.4.11. Beginning several days ago, all incoming emails have, after the usual email header and before the message appears, one to two pages of technical data (e.g., Dkim-Signature, Domainkey-Signature, Content-Transfer-Encoding, etc.). This is similar and more complex that the info one receives when an undeliverable email bounces back. I don't know where this stuff comes from, or how it came, and I don't know how to get rid of it. Any ideas? I'm something of a newbie to computers (um, what's a Tag?).

That just sounds like the mail headers. Most people don't know (or care) about them so they're usually hidden.
Check Mail -> Preferences -> Viewing -> Show header detail
I'm guessing it's set to 'All'. Switch it to 'Default' or None as you prefer.

  • How to get rid off 'long frames'

    when I import a movie into FCP and I use the tool 'long frames: mark';
marks many long frames in parts of the movie.
how to get rid off 'long frames'?
    thanks
    carlos

Long frames are frames whose duration is too long... however sometimes it doesn't matter as you don't see the problem in playback, so if you don't see a jitter there or something, I'd not worry about them.
Dropped frames are frames that are OK, however (usually) your drives can't play them back because they are too slow... they drop a frame to get to the next... this will look worse than long frames do usually.
All that said, if you don't see a problem, you don't have one. Dropping frames is worse though, and I'd suggest that you keep these media files on a fast drive system other than your startup disk. The data rate of the video will determine whether or not you need to use faster disk drives. SATA internals for example will handle 8 bit uncompressed files, but not 10 bit... FW drives range a lot in what they can handle, and the spec should always be MUCH faster than what the data rate actually is. For example, I use G-Raids for 8 bit uncompressed, and 4 gig fibre channel array for HD files. But FW 400 and 800 single drives work great all day long for DV res files, and the fastest of the 800's will handle 8 bit uncompressed if you don't fill them to the brim.

  • How to get rid of adware/spyware?

My computer is running very slow.  I believe I may have been infected with adware/spyware and unsure how to get rid of it.

    Hi, first try this...
Bootup holding CMD+r, or the Option/alt key to boot from the Restore partition & use Disk Utility from there to Repair the Disk, then Repair Permissions.
    Then...
Open Console in Utilities & see if there are any clues or repeating messages when this happens.
    Also...
One way to test is to Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, Test for problem in Safe Mode...
PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive
    Reboot, test again.
If it only does it in Regular Boot, then it could be some hardware problem like Video card, (Quartz is turned off in Safe Mode), or Airport, or some USB or Firewire device, or 3rd party add-on, Check System Preferences>Accounts (Users & Groups in later OSX versions)>Login Items window to see if it or something relevant is listed. Or an errant process eating up RAM.
Check the System Preferences>Other Row, for 3rd party Pref Panes.
Also look in these if they exist, some are invisible...

There is a parallel setting in Settings/ Videos/ which also includes Videos in the cloud, as well as Settings/ iTunes & App Store/ where you can set both Music and Video preferences.  But you only need to change a setting in one location.
