Fade in buttons

I have menu created in Motion, which fades in. I want to have the buttons I created in DVDSP fade in later, but I can't figure out how to fade them at all.

Besides that, even if you set your highlight to 100% black, the underline is black, and you line everything up perfectly, there is quite likely to be some kind of visible change when the highlight "takes over". Even ignoring that though, how is the user supposed to know what they are highlighting if the "highlight" is identical in color, shape, etc. to what is underneath it?
Even if you include the underline under the default option, when you move the highlight away there will still be an underline there.
Right like I said usually not worth the hassle. As to what is highlight there are usually two things, one where the highlight is always visible to some degree (such as underline under each button) or the default item is the button with the underline underneath. When jumping back from something to a menu where everything is not all highlighted (lines under each button) and a non-default button you will have to make more menus or make the loop point darn good. As to the highlight issue and confusion it ties into how you make it.
I guess you could make the underline disappear as the last step in the animation before it goes to "still" mode, but really it's a lot of effort for a flawed effect. The video asset is going to vary a bit depending on the TV's color reproduction, and given that the overlay graphics are basically generated within the player (with the subpicture data on the DVD providing shape and color data), there is going to be enough of a difference between the "faded in" fake highlight and the actual highlight to render the effect pointless.
If you time it right (and depedning on the animation content) it may be more or less visible subject to trying to match things. It can get get real close. Some of it is slieght of hand and what people may see. Sort of like if I was able to put down many stil pictures in front of you quickly it would look like they are moving Never said it was perfect.
As with any other effect people try to achieve or wonder if it's possible, I always advise people to look at the menus on a wide variety of commercial DVDs. People are rather accustomed to highlights "popping on" even if there is a lot of smooth fading in the menu itself.
Agreed, same thing applies to many of the things in DVD SP. 99.99% of the things people get jammed up or worry about are not really needed if you look at many real DVDs. But it is kind of fun to mess around with things when there is time to kill.
As I mentioned before, it's POSSIBLE to fade in highlights, subtitles, etc. but I don't think you can do it within DVD Studio Pro, at least in terms of menu highlight.
Right. But you mentioned
With that said though, you won't be able to fade in the highlight if that's what you're asking.
So it was more that if someone was so inclined to have that effect it is sort of possible with the tools right in the Final Cut Studio. No matter how imperfect or a PITN it is to try to nail down.
I think people should stick to basic overlays with simple highlights and link to tracks or stories. Alot easier and most people will not notice or care one way or the other. We have all seen some good movies and bad movies, plus some cooler menus and things along the lines of the game in Madagascar (check it out kind of fun if you have not looked at it), but good menus will be forgotten if the main part of the movie stinks and bad menus (well I guess really bad menus are possible) will not sink good material.
As to games, quizzes etc, yeah kind of fun to play with in DVD SP, but that is why there is Flash, Director and a slew of other things.

  • How to fade in and fade out buttons ???

    Hi guys I am building a website and I need help to fade in/ fade out buttons. Here is an example :
    My main goal is that when I roll over the services button, I want the submenu (corporate and weddings) to fade in. Then when I roll over the portfolio button, I want the first submenu (corporate and weddings) to fade out and the second submenu ( clients, corporate, weddings, etc..) to fade in and to stay like this. Finally when I roll over testimonials, the second submenu fades out. And so on for the rest of the buttons.
    FYI, i know how to animate the buttons to fade in/out but i dont know how to make them fade out when i roll over the other buttons.. I know this can be done with action script but I have no clue how...

    Some things you just have to take the time to unravel and learn.  It's not difficult/complex, you just have to avoid letting the code overwhelm you by its appearance... instead of looking at pages, look at one page at a time, line by line... take your time and follow a tutorial.
    People make tutorials to help those that need to learn, so there's no reason for anyone here to reinvent those wheels for every person that comes along.  If you are looking for someone who'll hand you your solved design, sorry, I'm not that guy.

  • Problem: The fade in button/tab refuses to show up

    I have a four minute slideshow using two different songs. When the second half with the new song starts up, it is too abruptly loud and I want to do a fade In. Problem is, whereas the grey fade out button appears for at the end of the last clip with the ending of the first song, the grey fade in button refuses to appear at the beginning of the second half with the second song.
    I had the same problem with trying to increase the volume of the second half with the new song. The volume adjust handles refuse to show up on the second half of the slideshow with the new song.
    Do you have a fix for this?

    Hello Matthew,
    Related to thread, our custom viewer app has a similar problem that only the latest free issue (published via folio builder website) is appeared, and 3 retail issues (published via folio builder) and other 3 retail issues (published via pre-release content bundler) are disappeared. And purchased 2 retail issues (published via prerelease content bundler) are appeared when logged in with the apple ID used for those 2 retail issued. Please look at my question on the forum 'http://forums.adobe.com/thread/898282?tstart=0'
    I've emailed (through the private message tool here) you our contact information including our Gold support contract number.
    Please help us to solve this urgent issue, still affecting our magazine app.

  • Menu Fade in Buttons

    I need to have the buttons (created in DVDSP4) to fade in 4 seconds after the animated menu plays in (fades in from black, and I don't want to see the buttons before the animation is fully in). I realize there are ways to do this in Motion, but my computer will not open the program for some reason...
    I'll tackle that problem later. So what I have are FCP movie files that I am importing and using as animated menus, then creating buttons using the ones provided in Studio Pro.
    I am at my wits end trying to figure this one out. If there is no way to do this within Studio Pro without Using Motion for creating buttons let me know so I can move on before I go crazy.
    Much appreciated.
    P.S. I've done a lot of reading on the Forum about this and haven't found a solution yet, this is my last resort.

    Two examples and how to do it
    - for Motion when you get it working
    http://dvdstepbystep.com/motion.php
    - uses Final Cut Pro and shows how to access bits and pieces of DVD SP templates, you will need your own buttons in an overlay and can use the elements from DVD SP if you want to use them
    http://dvdstepbystep.com/useelements.php
    Buttons will not be active until the loop point and overlays will not be seen
    until then. (You cannot control the buttons you drag from the templates otherwise.)

  • How to fade out button as menu fades?

    I've searched the forums and manual to no avail.
    I created a menu that fades to black before jumping to the loop point. Is it possible to fade out the highlighted button as my menu fades to black and jumps to the loop point? Otherwise, the button remains highlighted on screen as the menu fades to black.
    I understand how to fade in a button by using Final Cut or Motion and an overlay file, but this of course wouldn't work when fading out a button since the button remains on screen while the video "button" fades out.
    Thanks in advance for any advice.

    If you add a transition from the menu to the track, such as a dissolve, it should not carry over the highlights - not sure if the button itself is on the highlights. But lets say you have an arrow next to the text that highlights that should not be seen in the transition portion, but it will be abrupt. Also if there is motion after the loop point you will not know when the button is pressed, if it is effectively a still then the fades are smoother.

  • Arrow buttons with fade effect

    I have made arrow buttons on each side of a document I intend to export to pdf.  They are set to behave so that when the reader of the pdf clicks on one of them it takes them to the previous or to the next page. the issue I have is that they are distracting.  Is it possible to auto-fade these buttons and when you mouse over them they fade into view?

    I've made the buttons and they work fine. I found this link also helpful...http://www.dynamicgraphics.com/dgm/Article/28696
    The last issue is dotted outlines that appear when I push the button in the pdf. It looks like the dotted lines came from indesign with the objects. I've attached a photo. Not so important but if there was an easy way to get rid of them that would be great. Thanks again for the help.

  • Fade button label

    Hi, plase help me!
    I've applied a fade effect to a component that contains a
    button and some other children. All the component fades correctly
    and the button fades too, but not its label. I think that it's an
    embedded fonts problem. So I've embedded a font:
    @font-face {
    src:local("Arial");
    font-family: ArialEmbedded;
    advanced-anti-aliasing: true;
    Button
    embedFonts: true;
    font-family: ArialEmbedded;
    font-size: 13;
    After this operation the font-size of the button label
    matches, but not the font-family! The system default font-family
    persists!
    How can I embed fonts in button components? If I cannot fix
    this issue, I think that I cannot fade the button together with its
    label!
    Thanks

    Fixed, I had to embed the bold version of the font, because
    button labels are bold!
    So, the finally code is:
    @font-face {
    src:local("Arial");
    font-family: ArialEmbedded;
    advanced-anti-aliasing: true;
    font-weight:bold;
    @font-face {
    src:local("Arial");
    font-family: ArialEmbedded;
    advanced-anti-aliasing: true;
    font-weight:normal;
    Button
    embedFonts: true;
    font-family: ArialEmbedded;
    font-size: 13;
    All buttons will use the bold ArialEmbedded to render their
    label!

  • Problem With Fade Effect For JTextField

    Hello Friends !
    I am putting a 'bounty' of 10 Duke dollars
    for the clever clogs who can help me out !
    I want to create a 'fade in' effect when a
    textfield has the focus and a 'fade out'
    effect when it looses focus.
    The code for what I have done so far is
    listed below, but it leaves nasty 'artifacts'
    behind when painting.
    regards, Asad.
    import java.awt.*;
    import java.awt.event.*;
    import javax.swing.*;
    public class RunProgramAgain{
    public static void main(String[] args){
    JFrame frame = new MyFrame();
    class MyField extends JTextField{
    public MyField(){
    setPreferredSize(new Dimension(100, 30));
    public void paintComponent(Graphics g){
    super.paintComponent(g);
    if(hasFocus())
    fadeIn();
    else
    fadeOut();
    private synchronized void fadeIn(){
    for(alpha = MIN; alpha <= MAX; ++alpha)
    setBackground(new Color(RED, GREEN, BLUE, alpha));
    private synchronized void fadeOut(){
    for(alpha = MAX; alpha >= MIN; --alpha)
    setBackground(new Color(RED, GREEN, BLUE, alpha));
    private int alpha = MIN;
    private static final int MIN = 0;

    getContentPane().setLayout(new FlowLayout());
    getContentPane().add(new MyButton());
    getContentPane().add(new MyField());

  • Sliding panels prev/next buttons

    Using graphic buttons for previous and next navigation with Spry Sliding Panels, how can the 'previous' button be dimmed or hidden when you're on the first slide, and conversly, have the 'next' button dimmed or hidden when you're at the end of the slides? Ideally there would be a CSS class added to one button or the other to change states. Or can the Spry Fade Effect be used here to fade the buttons on and off?

    The default Spry Widget has no functionality to indicate the current panel. I have created a small hack for that before. You might want to check out this post here:  http://forums.adobe.com/message/2175472#2175472

  • Help! No sound output...

    I have reached the end of my wits trying to get this stuff working. Please help...
    I am using a Lynx Aurora 8 with an LT-FW (firewire 400) interface and have apparently managed to be able to input sound and record audio successfully, but as of yet have not been able to playback ANYTHING so that I can use the outputs on the interface. I made sure I had the right driver as far as I could tell and it seems to work since I can see the wave I recorded, also the sound seems to pass through the system as I can get feedback from the microphone that I am using to record with. I've updated the firmware on the Aurora 8 so it will work with the LT-FW card. Nothing seems to fix the problem. Maybe I'm an idiot who is missing something obvious.
    I have used the Aurora 8 with a Lynx AES-16 on my PC for months and it works fine. I would love to be able to use the Logic Pro 7.2 that I've had for almost a year now (waiting to finally get the LT-FW card to use it with). What am I doing wrong? Any ideas?

    Well you got it to record, and you see a waveform, and you hear sound with feedback from the mic, right.. This is good! Now, make sure that the I/O is routed properly.
    *Chose Input 1 in the 'Input' box under the label I/O on the channel fader strip and Output 1-2 in the 'Output' box just beneath that.*
    1-click the 'Rec' button on the fader ('Rec' button flashing red)
    2-Talk into the mike. +(If you monitor through the hardware or zero latency software, skip to step 4.)+
    3-Now turn up the 'record' fader and you should hear the mike sound that goes through the computer.
    *If there's no sound then the 'software monitoring' should be enabled in the Aurora 8's audio driver in the 'Audio Hardware and Drivers' window from the 'Audio' pull down menu at the top of Logics row of windows.*
    4-Record, talking into the mic to the track for a few seconds.
    5-Press 'Rec' button to deactivate record ('Rec' button not flashing red)
    6-Turn up what is now the 'playback' fader.
    7-Rewind and press Play and you should hear your track play back.
    Be aware of master output faders and make sure they are up.
    If you get stuck on something just repost, we'll help you figure it out!

  • How to export usb controller custom assignment settings to another computer

    Hello everybody
    is there any way to export Logic 9's USB controller assignments to another computer setup, to work with same controllers bought from a local music store, with even up to 7 usb controllers in one setup? This way, with a preference export file type of method, time would be saved lightyears by just choosing some "import settings file" function and *click*, every pot in those multiple controllers would do the intended function on the other system too.
    Example scenario,
    computer 1)  MacBook + 7 different usb controllers wanted to by exported assignment-wise (2 x Behringer BCF2000 and 3 x BCR2000, Presonus Faderport and Novation Nocturn
    computer 2)  MacBook Pro + 7 different usb controllers wanted to be exported assignment-wise (2 x Behringer BCF2000 and 3 x BCR2000, Presonus Faderport, Novation Nocturn + some other random USB controller in the chain also (wanted to be left outiside any assignment compromises)
    I don't know what information of controller devices Logic saves into different files for recalling purposes, and how accurate device-identifying-wise the assignment files are, but how could I make "computer 2" controllers do the same fader/vpot/button functions as on "computer 1" using those same products over there, and still leave that existing extra eight'd controller on "computer 2" left as it is/was?
    Ps. If there IS a file exportable for instant multi-controller configuring this scale, does the actual physical connecting order into USB hubs (all these devices could even by connected via single USB-hub cable into MacBook?) change the file's workability, I mean if I'd swap a few controllers into each other's places on the USB hub, would that smoke that preference file's workability whole together then?

  • Menu to Start in 23 seconds

    Hi all,
    I have made a mini movie lasting 25 seconds in AECS3. This movie will be then put into Encore CS3 as first play. So after 25 sconds when the movie ends I will take a still frame of the last frame of the movie, so it will pause and then loop over to the start.
    I then want Encores CS3 to show the main menu, Play all, deleted scenes (buttons) etc to come in about the 23 second mark over the top of the paused movie, just using one timeline.
    So how can it be done? Or am I asking to much from Encore?
    Thankyou josel

    You simply add the transition animation to your intro clip, then jump to the actual menu. There is no way to dynamically fade in buttons and stuff otherwise on any DVD, regardless of the program you use.

  • Customize transport bar and save changes?

    Am I missing some here but if I customize the transport bar and make changes, close logic and open it again those changes are not there? Shouldn't my changes to the transport bar remain? How do I save them as standard for all projects? I just want the pre-fader metering button there on all my projects.

    No the changes in the transport bar are project dependent (this is not an overall preference setting) so you have to customize your template and take it from there.

  • PE7 - Title text animation

    When creating a title, you can choose to apply one of several text animations, e.g. fade, pan and zoom, etc. You simply select the text you want to animate, then choose an animation from the edit panel and click apply. My question is, when you later come back to edit that title, how can you tell which animation is applied? The animation does not seem to highlight. Similarly, the text style does not highlight, although you can tell which font and point and other characteristics are applied to selected text by looking at the text options.
    The "Fade out by line" animation seems to be similar to just clicking the "Fade out" button in the opacity properties of the title (if all there is in the title is text), but no key frames are created, or at least they are not visible anywhere that I can find. There does not seem to be any way to edit the properties of one of these "canned" animations. Is this right, or am I missing something?
    Thanks for any help or further explanation.

    There is no straightforward location in the UI from where you can find out which animated title or which Style has been applied to a title. The Remove button in the animation panel gets highlighted only once we have applied an animation, so a user can find out wether any animation has been applied or not but cannot decipher which animation has been applied to a text.
    I normally apply the nimation and click preview to see the end result, and If I like it, I keep it that way.

    Its hard to tell from just this code but, if the list of
    items to be
    changed is always the same, then you could place the clip
    names in an
    array and then operate on the array items. That won't relieve
    the
    complexity or shorten the amount of time it takes the code to
    execute.
    If you use the _visible property instead of _alpha and
    enabled, you can
    cut out one operation. If a button or movieClip is not
    visible, then it
    is also not active. If you need to fade the button or clip
    then you'll
    need to use the _alpha property.
    An alternative to using the _visible property is to move the
    object off
    the visible area of the stage. Again, if you don't need to
    fade the
    object, you can just move it. If the object can't be reached,
    then it
    won't be active.
