Fade in sound from a second clip

I'm just wondering if there is a way to have the audio from a second clip start playing before the video of the first clip has stopped playing? I would like to have the sound for the second clip play before the video switches to the second clip.

This is basic editing 101:
Place the main video clip on track V1. Next, untarget the audio tracks. Next, place the B Roll clips (cutaway shots) on track V2, positioning them along the Timeline where you want them to go.

How do I remove all sound from my original clips?

I've recently bought iMovie and am trying to get some editing done. I'd like to remove all the sound from my original clips and only have the music track I've added as background music, I've watched the tutorials and tried adjustments but alas, nothing seems to work, where am I going wrong?

First you must drag the clips to a project. The event clips will always have the original audio.
In the project, select one of the clips and open the inspector to the Audio tab. Set the volume slider to zero.
You can repeat this for all the clips, or here is a shortcut.
Do the first one, then with it still selected, click EDIT/COPY, then EDIT/SELECT ALL, then EDIT/PASTE ADJUSTMENTS.../AUDIO ADJUSTMENTS.

No sound from some audio clips suddenly

Made a 55min movie from multiple video clips and narrated with several audio recordings and added music tracks as well, suddenly some audio clips after the first 30 mins show up blank, when viewing audio waves and their volumes are set fine. Other audio clisp in between works fine thou.
Found this after having exported and shared to iDVD, Audio wave files and Media files seems fine in the project folder/content. what happened and have could I possible recap output from these clips again?
BTW HD ***** on sound facility and sometimes disstores sounds during playback when a project gets too large, sometime after saving project and emptying trash, it might work again for a while
Googled around for few days now with out any solutions, any hints?

I assume you've already done the following:
(1) Make sure the audio checkbox is selected for the track you want to hear. The audio checkbox is to the right of each track in the timeline viewer.
(2) If the audio checkbox is selected, then choose View > Show Clip Volume Levels and see if the audio levels for the tracks are set to a level that can be heard"
If so, this is what I'd try.....with your project open, start an new, empty project. Go to the original project and copy one of the clips (highlight it and then FILE....COPY.) Go to the other project and click in the second line of the timeline and click FILE...PASTE. Make sure the audio checkbox (on the far right) is selected for that line and attempt to play it in the new project. If it works, drag it back into your original project and try it from there.
If that doesn't work, look for the. aiff files in the original project file in Finder (find the file, right click, choose "Show Package contents", then look in the media folder.) Drag that file into the new project and attempt to play it. If it works, drag it back into your original project and try it there.

No sound from you tube clip

I installed Lion and no longer get sound from You Tube. Other media works just fine.
Any ideas?

Since most YouTube content requires the Flash plugin try uninstalling then reinstalling the plugin > Troubleshoot Flash Player | Mac OS

Sound from separate movie clips over laps.

I have 4 buttons that each lead to 4 different frames with a gotoAndStop() command. Each of those frames has a movie clip on it. But for some reason the sound that I have triple checked plays from more than one movie clip. It's weird because the sound is only in the movie clips.

No Sound from Flip video clips on iMac, but works on Mac Pro and Macbook

I just got a flip video camera today. I tried it out at work, made a quick video, imported it on my mac pro, and it worked fine. I came home took some videos, went on my iMac(24 inch core 2 duo) and was surpised that the videos imported without sound. After searching the web, I didn't find any concrete solutions, just some suggestions that pointed towards codecs. Since nothing worked, I sent the file to my wife's macbook pro to try it out. The same AVI file on her computer plays sound. Now I am totally confused.
Any ideas?

The sound is on, and other files and applications play sound.
In fact, in iMovie 09, there is sound. But there is no sound in quicktime, VLC player, the flipshare software the camera works with, and if I upload to youtube via the iMac there is no sound on the youtube video, but if I upload the file to youtube from the macbook pro, there is sound.
I don't know what to try next.

Can anyone help me figure why there is a popping sound when I move from an iphoto still image to a new video clip? The sound has been removed from the video clips and there is another soundtrack underneath it all. Help?

My current project is like many I have created in the past. I have removed the sound from my video clips and laid another soundtrack under the entire project. Now, when I add an iphoto still image to the project, when it goes back into video there is a popping sound. I've never had this happen in the past and have made many projects in the past just like this one. Any way to troubleshoot this issue? Thanks so much for your help.

Eliminate sound from a clip in iMovie

I have my project ready, I´ve eliminated the sound from the original clip, but when I export the project as a m4v file the sounds from the original clip still there, any suggestion, PLeas HELP!

First, get an app called MPEG Streamclip, which is free. (google MPEG Streamclip from Squared 5)
Open MPEG Streamclip.
In iMovie, select the clip you need. Then, right-click/Reveal in Finder.
Drag this clip into MPEG Streamclip
In MPEG Streamclip, move the playhead to the frame you want.
In MPEG Streamclip, click FILE/EXPORT FRAME.
Choose JPEG, TIFF, or PNG and give it a name.
You can then drag this photo into iPhoto.

Locking Sound Files to Video Clips

Hello,
This is the problem that I am ecountering. If I'm working on a project and I delete the recorded sound from the video clips and then insert something from itunes but later change the video clips slightly (say by deleting a few seconds here or there) then all my sound files are not in the correct positions any longer.
Is there any way to lock sound files to the video clips so that if I delete something in a video clip later on that the sound file will move with the earlier video clips?
I hope I'm making myself clear. Sorry if I am not.

Working with locked audio clips can be frustrating. I've noticed for several years that I've used iMovie. It seems if you change the length of the video clip BEFORE a section where you have locked audio clips to the video those "locked" positions do not stay. You will see the yellow pins out of line.
I am finding this helpful in my situation if I need to edit video before a section of locked clips.
- In timeline view drag the first video clip to the right, (in the section of locked clips) thus creating a black space.
- Do your editing that you need to before this black space
- Now when you go back to the section with the locked audio clips. If you have changed the length of the video before this section you will find the yellow pins out of line.
- However start dragging that first video clip a bit to the left (shortening the black space) and you should see the yellow pins pop back in alignment.
- If needed select all the video clips in your section (using shift-click on the first clip and shift click on the last clip) and then drag all back into position (removing the black space)
This may be a work around for those trying to edit and keep those locked clips truly in place. Maybe someone has further insight on this.

Dragging photos from iPhoto, keep sound from video

Hi everybody
I experience trouble when trying to insert a photo from iPhoto. I want to have the sound from the video clip running, while the "live video-image" change to a "still-photo". Does that make sense?
I succeeded once, by highlighting a part of the video clip and dragging from the iPhoto window (down right) into the highlighted part (with a yellow frame). Everything works perfect, and I can see the inserted photo as a blue box upon the video.
I can't do it again with a new still-photo, and I am pretty sure I does the same thing (I probably don't). I would appriciate any suggestions.

I experience trouble when trying to insert a photo from iPhoto. I want to have the sound from the video clip running, while the "live video-image" change to a "still-photo".
There is probably more than one way to do this but I use the following work flow to maximized ease and control:
1) Bring your clip into the "project" window as normal for editing.
2) Mouse-click the background to deselect all clips in window.
3) Select the segment you wish to replace and adjust as needed for photo duration plus transitions.
4) Use the "Split" Edit option to divide the main clip segment into three smaller segments.
5) Drag 'n Drop the photo you want to the center of the middle sub-segment to replace the video content and automatically add a cross dissolve transition while retaining the audio content.

Taking audio from one video clip to another

Hello,
In editing a short film, there are scenes where the director is talking in the background, while the action is going on. If I like the video of this particular take, but want to use sound from another take, what would be the best way of doing this? I could conceivably take the sound from the one clip and put it in with the desired video clip, but, I do not know if that is the most efficient way, especially when it comes to matching up everything - thanks!

This is one of the basics of editing Kristina. Just cut the video you want on V1 (video only), then put the audio you want on V2. This happens ALL the time. Director giving directions in the middle of shots. This is one of the reasons we get room tone after we are done shooting, before you wrap a set. Need to have something to cover the hole you make in cutting out the BANGS and dolly moves and director talking...stuff like that.

Why no fade in from black when clip without head handle is adjacent to ...?

There seems to be a lot of workarounds and unintuitive ways of doing things in FCP. I'm trying to understand if it's something I don't know or if the developers of FCP are lazy to make things just work.
I'd like to know the reasoning for not allowing me to drop a Fade In Fade Out Dissolve on the beginning of a clip when the clip does not have a head handle and when the clip is after another clip that does not have a tail handle.
Why does the workaround (of inserting a gap, dropping the transition, and deleting the gap) work, but not the way it should just work?

Are you coming from iMovie? Because iMovie will adjust the clips so that you have handles. It does this because it is consumer software and strict show timing isn't an issue. But if FCP did this, the timing of the cut would change and professionally, that is a BIG no no.
You have to learn about handles and know how to use them and plan for dissolves.

A full 1 second cross fade reaches 15 frames into each clip. So, if you want to change a cut to a cross fade, there has to be at least 15 additional frames of each clip. Say you're trying to cross fade from one clip into the very first frame of a second clip. FCP cannot 'create' 15 more frames of the second clip to do a cross fade. If they're not there, you're out of luck.
What you are running into is that you are marking an out point at the far edges of a clip then adding a cross dissolve, say 30 frames (one second) in duration. Since the dissolve is centered on the cut, it will start 15 frames before the cut, and try to go 15 frames AFTER the cut...which it can't do. What you need to do is plan how long your dissolve will be and back-time your cut so that it works.
You need to make sure that your clips have enough media (called 'handles') at the beginning of the incoming clip and at the end of the outgoing clip for the transition. For example, if you have a 1 second (30 frame) dissolve, your in and out point need to be at least 15 frames from the edge of the clip.

Question about sound from two clips... any help is greatly appreciated.

I'm doing multiple angles of a shot. I'm importing both video's (miniDV) to iMovie. Now, is there a way to keep the audio from one of the clips going continuously while I switch back and forth from the main clip to the second angle? This way, even if the video is a bit out of sync, no one will notice sound messing up

I have FCE 4.0.1 and running OS x 10.7.5 when i burn my movie the audio from my movie clips don't come through . My Sound effects and music can be heard. I export to Quicktime movie, make it self contained then open IDVD for an intro and burn it.

Moving sound from one clip to another?

Can I take the sound from one clip and move it so that it plays during another clip?
In other words, if I have some narration in one clip that would be better in another clip, can I pluck out that sound (narration) and re-locate it so that it plays at the same time another clip (video) is playing?
I know that FCP can do this..you just cut out the sound portion you want and cut/paste it into whereever you want, beneath the visual part of whatever clip you want it to play with.
