Fading an effect

(I will preface this by saying I am completely unfamiliar with how to use keyframes in this or any other application.)
I have been occasionally applying pretty severe effects for short opening title sequences which use the first few seconds of the principal video content. I've 'faded' these effects out to the clip's normal look as the titles end by using the Cross Dissolve effect. With the release of 10.0.1 & 10.0.2, however, I found that the crossfade lost track of time: I'd see the ghosts of movement from the overlapped clips: something shifts in time.
I always kind of knew I was cheating and that the crossfade effect wasn't the best way of doing this.
How can I use keyframes to fade an effect in or out? I haven't had much luck just playing with things.
Many thanks in advance...

It depends on the effect. Most have some kind of Amount function. To fade out an effect click the + button.
Go forward in time, and click the + button again, then set the Amount value to zero. That will fade the effect out over time.
You can also keyframe in the video animation HUD in the timeline.

  • Adding fading in effect to titles?

Hey. I want the title i have put in my movie to slowly fade in, instead of just appearing. I have done the research but was unable to find the method. I have adobe premiere cs4. Thank you for the help in advance, i really appreciate it.

do i really need to download a plug in to have the titles fade in? I dont think its that special of an effect... when i say fade in i mean liike, at first the title is not visible, but as time passess the title becomes more visible and visible until its fully in view. Its like a standard title function. Even windows movie maker has it i believe

  • How to achieve this in FWs

    Hey all,
I've seen a tutorial in PS for fading out effects where they use a black (or is it white) brush effect to fade out some of an image or an element.
What would be the easiest way to achieve the fading edges on the line above the menu bar, the menu item dividers and the line above the footer on this page:
    http://www.harrods.com/harrodsstore/Default.aspx
PS:  I've experimented a few times on menu dividers by using masking, but never managed to achieve a nice look - actually didn't seem to make much difference on such a small element, particularly just a small 'line'...
    Thanks !!

    Hi
    Here http://www.potterpuppetpals.com/newppp/fun-games-puzzles/index.htm
    and here: http://www.potterpuppetpals.com/
and here: http://www.potterpuppetpals.com/indexr.htm (same page only the red background color is different.)
Look at the buttons in the menus on the left. how they fade to transparency. I created these in fireworks.
I think that is what you want to acomplish.
For any rectangle, choose a gradiant, lets use a linear gradiant as an example.
When you edit the gradiant properties, you need to set the upper left transparency indicator to white and the upper right one to black.
Then you need to make both color indicators to the color you want. Say green.
Then the rectangle behaves as you want, reguardless of the background color or image.
    Thanks

  • Black Flickering In Wipe Transition?

I have a few wipe transitions for a fading in and fading out effect of photos on the timeline. For some reason there's this weird black flicker taking place on some of them. An example would be that when a photo has a wipe (left to right) to fade in, there's a weird black bar, sometimes thin, sometimes taking up the entire screen scrolling over the screen as the wipe comes through. At other times there are weird thin black lines flashing somewhere on the screen as the wipe comes through. When I move the photos to a different track in the timeline it seems to give me a different black flicker in another spot. How can I fix this?

    Which exact version of PP?
    What OS?

  • Optimal Audio Sample/ Bit Rate for DVD?

In using recorded material to add to DVDs for family and friends, that is, non-commercial, what is recommended formatting for the audio file? Soundbooth seems to default to 48000 Sample Rate/32 Bit but if I use that am I achieving anything over a simple 44100 Sample Rate/16 bit, since the human ear cannot detect above 20000Hz? I want the DVDs to sound as good as possible in STEREO.I don't want to cross-post, so sorry if this is wrong forum.
    Thanks...

I'm not positive about this, but I think they used 48KHz simply because most professional audio/video gear uses that same sample rate. This makes it easier to tramsfer audio from DV, DAT, etc. without the need for resampling.
As for why 48 in the first place? This has to do with the Nyquist limit... and that's way too deep for this thread!
Higher bit depth is another thing all together: This represents the number of possible volume levels (dynamic range) of each sample. 16 bit has 65535 levels which is a dynamic range of 96 dB. This is fine for final delivery -- assuming that the audio was well-mastered at an appropriate volume level.
During recording and editing, however, where it is likely that adjustments to dynamics (compression, expansion, noise gating, fading) and effects will be applied, it is best to use a higher bit depth so that less information is lost (quantized) on successive transformations of the audio. It also will keep broadband noise from creeping in when the audio is amplified.
For example, if you have audio recorded in 16 bit and then you amplify it to be 20 dB louder, your dynamic range has decreased to 76 dB and the noise floor has been raised -- meaning there is a constant whitenoise "hiss" in the background.
32 bit audio is different. The dynamic range is sufficient enough so that moderately large amplification will not neccessarily result in audible background noise.
The 32 bit audio is then downsampled during mastering to 16 bit for final delivery (often with aid dithering, noise shaping, etc. to avoid distortion and give the "illusion" of greater dynamic range)
I do agree that 48 KHz is a little bit silly for DVD when the audio is AC3 compressed anyway. I am fairly certain that none of these ultrasonic frequencies will survive AC3 encoding -- even at high rates.

  • Slide show on FCP

    Hi
I intend to buy FCP 5 to make multimedia presentations including a lot of slide shows and a bit of video.
One objective is to create a very hi-res movie (1600 x 1200 px) for projection from hard drive or dvd-computer. The other products are normal dvd to play on normal & hd tv.
My concerns are that I cannot test the product before buying and I am not sure FCP is the best choice to do the job.
    My special requirements are :
    - movie on 1600 x 1200 px screen / multimedia projector (projected on up to 24 sq m screen)
    - slide shows with perfectly smooth transition effects
    - pan across huge panorama (> 10000 px wide)
    - zoom in/out 6000 x 4000 px image to detail in sub-window
    - easy way to add images without re-calculating whole movie
    - total duration of presentation 45 min (may-be linking separate movies to avoid huge file size of final movie)
    - digital video in subwindow of max size of video
Is FCP the best choice and what else do I need to know?
    Paul

Signage application? Never heard of that... My guess is this type of application will not handle incorporation of video clips within subwindow of the movie, but may-be I am wrong? Could you be more specific? Adobe After Effects ok, will it handle all my requirements?
One of my major problem, is that I cannot try the product before buying and make some simple tests to see if FCP will handle the job. I can not afford spending $1000 on a software that is not appropriate. Thus your feedback are extremely important to me.
I don't know much about FCP but I understand that a standard tv/dvd will not display hires images/movie (720x480 px). That's fine. The dvd I intend to deliver will handle that resolution as it will most of the time be played on a standard dvd player on a standard tv. Eventually, I can create another hd dvd if necessary.
However, I would like to keep the highest possible resolution for the multimedia projection on big screen. So here are my new questions...
1/ what is the max resulution of a 45 min movie (or a series of chained movies if that is possible) that can be played from a "fast" Apple Mac directly from the hard drive connected to an Epson video projector of max resolution 1600 x 1200 px?
2/ At that max resolution (1600 x 1200 px) how big will be the final file approximatively and will it play without problem, smoothly from begining to end? Is there any possible problem to run the dvd from a 7200 rpm 160 GB ATA hard drive?
3/ Will it be practical to work in FCP at that king of high resolution and render the slide show with cross fading transition effects for about 200-250 images (G5 2x1.7Gb @Gb RAM)?
4/ I only guess that adding an image in the middle of the movie will not affect the rendering of the whole movie but only of the concerned frames, is this right?
5/ I also guess that DVD Studio Pro is used to transform the movie into the final dvd, but for the projection movie I will play directly the mov file, is that correct?
6/ If the master movie is made at that highest resolution, can I easily save/export the movie at a lowest resolution i.e. 720 x 480 px for SD TV?
7/ I have done many slide shows in iView Media Pro, iPhoto, Flash with xml & images external files and more, but none of them are made for more "profesional" looking animations (map, subwindow, video...). So unless someone point out another package, I only think of FCP. Any other suggestion? But please do not mention PowerPoint, I am really allergic to Microoft.
8/ As I don't have a big budget now, I have to rely of my current equipment together with the best affordable software to do the job. FCP Studio 5? Adobe After Effects?

  • Strange Shadows Cast by Windows

    Hi, everybody,
I have recently begun to experience a very strange phenomenon on my old iMac DV 400mhz.
First, a little background. The unit is about 10 years old, has an upgraded 120 GB hard drive, and has 768 MB of RAM installed. I am currently running Mac OS X 10.4.11 Tiger, and I have a number of applications installed, including, most recently, the Gimp photo shop program (which works through the X11 shell).
Now, to the problem. Within the last few days, I've noticed what seems to be a faded ghosting effect on the right side of the screen. It is visible to the right of most open windows and menus, and is most starkly visible on the boot screen.
Included below are a few sample pictures that will illustrate what I'm talking about.
    (Taken with my iPhone)
I am puzzled because when I take a screen capture, none of the shadows show up -- as you can see in this picture:
This leads me to believe that there is something happening to my monitor. I guess my question is, "What could that be?"
I've already repaired Disk Permissions, Verified the Disk, reset the PRAM, and started up from the Mac OS X Install Disk, and the strange shadows are still visible. I even used the calibration assistant in System Preferences. Does anyone have any idea about what's happening? Has this happened to anyone else? Is my monitor finally starting to die after 10 years? Is there something else I'm missing?
I'd appreciate any help that you guys can provide. I've always enjoyed this forum community in the past, and I hope to communicate warmly and helpfully on a more regular basis in the future.
    Thanks!
    Sammy Larkin

If you look carefully at the LEFT side of the white box in the "Starting Mac OS X" screenshot, there is a magenta cast all up and down the left side, a bit more pronounced at the bottom of the box. This says to me that your display has color convergence problems (all the electon guns are not aimed at quite the same spot to give pure white everywhere). \[White areas are formed by lighting up adjacent Red, Green and Blue phosphor dots on the screen. If the convergence is not quite right, areas that should be white will have color casts.] I think that the shadow you see is an echo of this color mis-alignment.
This is a physical problem inside the CRT, nothing to do with software. That is why your screen shot looks great, despite the defects of the picture on the display.
This can happen whether the display uses three electron guns shooting at clusters of dots (Tridot) or a single electron gun shooting at alternating stripes (Trinitron) technology. Yours may be a Trinitron, as it appears to have the tiny imperfections, narrower than a pixel high, that extend all the way across the screen near the top and bottom, and possibly a few more. These are caused by the tiny wires that support the aperture grill used to mask off stray electrons in a Trinitron display.
On your display, I do not know offhand whether color convergence is something that can be changed under software control. On many large (21" and up) SONY displays, there are controls in the software or on the front panel that can be used to adjust the color convergence.
If there are no such controls, the display may have to be opened, and adjusted with the power on and covers off. This may expose the technician to upwards of 10,000 Volts, and should only be undertaken by those trained in proper safety procedures. It can be very dangerous. Connecting that Voltage across your heart (e.g., Hand-to-hand) can stop your heart.

  • Audio tip for a begginer :)

Hi all... i'm a graphic designer specialized in printed media for publishing, but lately i have been a bit curious about video editing, so, i decided to give it a shot at Premiere, currently working on CS3 version. I have just finished my first video clip following a video tutorial, and i need to do some kind of fading out effect for the end of the clip as the track is longer than the video and i want a soft ending, but i can't find a way to fade the audio out at that point. I know it sounds like a very dumb question but, since this is my first work on premiere and the tutorial video doesn't cover the Audio functions in depth, i thought i might ask the pros.
Thanks in advance, any help will be appreciated!

I'm no pro, but a quick search on "audio fade" in the CS3 Help provides:
Fade in or fade out clip audio
You will also find links to many
free tutorials in the PremiereProPedia that will quickly show you how things are done in Premiere Pro.

  • Fade in along special curve

I use Loader class to load a picture, such as example.jpg, and I know if I want to realize fade in effect,I can use following code in Event.ENTER_FRAME:
    sprite.alpha+=0.05
When I run above code,I can get a fade in effect of example.jpg. But the fade in effect is for the whole example.jpg, now I want to fade in the example.jpg with a special curve, such as number 9,the example.jpg fade in along number 9 curve. I guess it shoud have a mathematical model can realize this special fade in effect, anyone could give me the model of fade in along special curve?
    Any Idea will be appreciated.
    Thanks.

    >>what do you mean by fading a bitmap with a special curve?  and what's the number 9 have to do with a curve?
I mean I show the bitmap with fading in effect, the fading in along with a curve, the curve shape like number 9,like follows:
    one step
    two step:
    three step
How to realize above fading in effect? A source code is better.

  • How to repeat fade in fade out images

    Hi,
Sorry for this stupid question but I am new to Flash and I really cannot figure out how to do the following:
I have 2 images that need to fade in and fade out so after 5 seconds image1 slowly begins to fade out while image2 slowly begins to fade in.
My first image does not fade in because on the start of the flash movie I want to directly see the first image.
But when image2 is done (so the whole movie is almost done) and it's start fading out.... I get to see the background (just a black empty background) while I actually want to begin fading in image1 (so looping the 2 image constantly).
So how can I immediately see an image on the start of the movie and still getting a fading in effect of the first image when the movie is almost on its end (so during the fading out of the last image)?
Can this be done graphically or do I need to write code for this?
    Thanks in advance!

For a basic, timeline approach to a 2-image fade in/out loop, let's say you have the following layers:
    actions
    photo1
    photo2
photo1: your image appears right away on frame 1, with no fading.
photo1: on frames 30-45, fade the image OUT from alpha 100% to alpha 0%.
photo2: on frame 30, show the other image (no fading). This will appear to fade IN as photo1 fades OUT. Notice that photo2 doesnt' ever fade in or out - only photo1 does.
photo1: on frames 75-90, fade the image IN from alpha 0% to alpha 100%.
actions: on frame 90, enter gotoAndPlay(1);  This will loop to the first frame and start the animation over again.
Give that a shot, and watch the animation - tweak it as you need to.

  • Believe it or not...

Believe it or not, there is a certain effect achieved only through doing the following:
             WhiteSolid1
                  - mask feather: 20
    <0>     WhiteSolid1                        luma
                  - mask feather: 20
    <0>     footage.wmv
The symbol <0> is meant to represent the EYE symbol, or rather visibility.
Also, bare in mind that WhiteSolid1 has been masked to a rectangle.
I want to achieve the same fading away effect, but for a white solid that is luma matte tracked to the footage, NOT a duplicate of itself.
I understand this is very difficult, but i'd be surprised if there were not a way of doing this.
If you were wondering why I have the white solid luma matte tracked to the footage, here's why: I want white to appear wherever the footage is bright (and obviously I have VISIBLE footage underneath).
I can't feather the footage because that would mess up the brightness detection - know what i mean?
    Please could you help,
    Yours sincerely
    Harry Evans
    Thanks alot..

You're making this much too difficult. Instead of using masks you should be using blend modes. Here's an easy 3 step process for making a light saber effect. It takes about 30 seconds and involves 3 copies of a shape and the ADD.
Create a shape layer that is approximately the shape of your light saber. The color should be a slightly darker value than you want for your light saber core. Add fast blur with a value of 10 to 20 pixels. Set the blend mode to ADD.
Duplicate the layer (not the shape) and edit the copy to be slightly larger than the layer below using the pen tool. Increase the blur value to about 40 pixels.
Duplicate the layer and edit the shape to be slightly larger and possibly rounded on the end. Increase the blur value to about 60.
There's your light saber. Drop this Light Saber comp into a new comp with your footage at the bottom. Make sure the project settings are set to 32bit. Set the blend mode of the Light Saber comp to ADD. Move the anchor point to the base of the light saber and then animate away.
You can make adjustments to the look by adjusting the blur and opacity of the shape layers in the Light Saber Comp.
This is how long it should take you:

  • What kind of flash is this?

First let me say that I know very little about flash. I am
currently working on an html site but would like to incorporate
something similar to the below link as my main page. I have flash
and am trying to figure out what kind of code I should be searching
for. It is sorta like a slideshow but not really.
    Here is the link...
    http://www.bustinboards.com
All I want to do is have a set of pictures randomly appear
but they are clickable with links to other parts of the site. Also,
I would like smaller images that also appear but not randomly (much
like at the bottom of the page) so basically two separate parts
with rotating images with clickable links.
Like I said, I dont know much about flash but if someone
could direct me to what exactly that is (ie slideshow, navigation,
etc) I can search for more information on it. Thanks...

    Hi Arithian,
What you are trying to do is quite simple, but you need a
fair knowledge of Actionscript to acheive that effect.
The linking of images to buttons (navigation) is simple, and
easy to pick up. just look in the flash docs, under buttons.
as for the fading transition effect, the flash docs will help
you out as well, look for Tween.
To get a automated image swap (automatic slideshow) you can
use afew different methods, probably the best (and first that comes
to mind) is the setInterval(); function.
Flash docs again will have the information you need.
to get a Random effect, look for the Math.random() method.
    Hope that helps.
Come back here and ask for assistence if you get stuck, or if
    you need some sample code.
    good luck.
