Fading/Distorted Type

Hello- The type in all my programs/apps etc. is so light it's barely legible. The problem started 4+weeks ago with distorted colors in IPhoto. I posted the problem on these boards, and got great help from TD..but I wasn't able to resolve it because the problem is bigger than IPhoto.
I went into Color Sync, but there are NO devices listed under USER, SYSTEM or DISPLAY.
I changed the Display settings in System Preference- didn't help. I ran Tech Tool--passed all categories.
How do I get Color Sync Utility to recognize/list my Displays? Is this part of my problem?

Font Outlines For Distorted Type?

before sending my file to the printer, i would like to outline the document's text to avoid font substitution if the printer doesn't have the font available.
to outline all of my text, i first Select > All on Active Artboard and then choose Type > Create Outlines. however, there are many areas of text in my document that contain an arc envelope distortion. these arced text fields were not outlined and i can still reach their editable text field by going down a few layers.
should i also outline the arced type for these fonts incase the printer doesn't have the font available, or was creating an arc distortion the same thing as outlining the text?
the reason i'm asking is because it will take me a very long time to individually process each one of these arced text fields if they, too, should be outlined.

I haven't tried to replicate your issue on my computer but if what your saying is true you should have probably converted to outlines "before" applying the envelope distortion. I am not sure if you can save the distortion settings as a preset but if you can then it would be a matter of saving the presets for each arc instance, removing the current instance, outlining the text, and then reapplying it. I know it will take some time but when sending something to the printer you definitely don't want to take chances.
The other option is setting up your preflight options in Acrobat properly so that when you save the Illustrator PDF you will embed all of the fonts and you don't have to worry about outlining the fonts.

Distorted type and wrong images when uploading

I have built my whole site in iWeb, and didn't seem to have any issues. I made some minor changes to it today, and when checking it online after the upload, all the fonts seem distorted and wrong, some images show up completely different than what they are suppose to be, and the whole thing looks like a hot mess.
ANY IDEAS WHY???

Why does my printer get the color wrong?

I am trying to print a flyet that is dark red with yellow type, yet it prints out as green with faded yellow type. Why won't the background show up as the correct color?

What printer make and model are you using?

Cannot apply filters to layers

Running CS3 on Vista 64bit.
When I try to apply a filter (in this case distort-glass) on a regular RGB 8bit layer(1 or above), it wont work. If however, I draw something on the base (background) layer and apply the filter to that, it works fine. Seems it does not like transparent backgrounds maybe??

Gentleman, here is a simple workflow that will demonstrate what is happening. This is consistent and totally repeatable for me. Happens every time.
-open photoshop CS3
-select file-new
-set foreground color to anything, background color to anything (I have black right now)
-create new layer
-set marquee select to additive
-draw a few selections on the layer
-use paint bucket tool to fill the selections
-either de-select the selections at this point or not, makes no difference.
-open filters
-select distort-ocean ripple
NO CHANGE OCCURS OR IS DISPLAYED.
-select glass as the distort type
NO CHANGE OCCURS OR IS DISPLAYED.
So, this happens on current files or new files, it makes no difference. And it's not just distort either. Most other filters will not work if they are on a layer. If I draw the marquee selections on the background layer,fill and THEN apply the filter, it works.

Wireless Printing with AirPort Express

Hi all, I've had an AirPort Express on my network for a while now and have been printing to a Canon LBP2900i laser printer without any problems.
It seems that since the last firmware upgrade for the AirPort Express was released and installed I receive the error message 'this port type is not supported by your printer' when trying to print.
It worked fine before so I can't figure out why it should be different now.
Any ideas?

Hi, with regards to the epson printer , if all went well when you bonjoured it and it was recognized, make sure you have loaded the correct drivers for this printer. And secondly check in controll panel -printers/faxs. that you have only one connection for the epson. If you start bonjoure more than once it will install a new copy of the drivers causing windows to get very confused as to which one to pick from. Delete all of the epson drivers from there and start bonjoure once again, but only once. And of course make certain when you are printing you've chosen the right printer.

Importing certain CDs to itunes, and they come with a skip.

I just jumped onto the Apple thing, and decided I should import all my (paid for, original) CDs to to itunes, on my macbook pro, so i can listen to them on my iphone, and in my car. All my CDs seem to import with the highest quality besides my Warner Bros produced albums. (at least that the only connection I can find. Namely, Van Halen and Black Sabbath. It seems that Van Halen, all 5 albums I own import with a skipping or ticking noise in the background. Sometimes the song even has a little jump or skip. Black Sabbath is not as bad, their albums come with more of a background distortion type noise. Mind you, these CDs all play perfectly well in my stereo and through my car. I have read some forums on here, and cannot find a resoluton to my issue. I have used different techniques, apple lossless encder, AAC encoder, changed bitrates, used the error cerrecting, disabled the error correction, no solution. Some adjustments acutaually make it worse! I see other people have this issue as well, please help!
Side note, I have a PC I busted out, and downloaded the albums to that itunes to see if it made any difference, and it did not. Thanks!

Reinstalling OS X Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Reinstalling OS X Without Erasing the Drive
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility and press the Continue button. After Disk Utility loads select the Macintosh HD entry from the the left side list. Click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If Disk Utility reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit Disk Utility and return to the main menu.
Reinstall OS X: Select Reinstall OS X and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

Swf not rendering fading type correctly

Dissolving (fading) type works in timeline......but not when
I control>test movie or publish as swf! I've just upgraded to
Flash Professional 8, and am doing some simple animation of type (
a line of type fades [using motion tween, color>alpha=0] as
another line fades up on top of it). I've done this a million times
in MX, but when I test or publish, the type just piles up on top of
the previous layer - no fading of alpha! Any suggestions very
welcome!

Make sure the text field is set to "static", and avoid using

device fonts, or if the text field needs to be dynamic, elect

InDesign PDF type distortion

I am creating PDFs to be sent by email and to be viewed online. I am using the [smallest file size] setting. I am not using any transparency in the files. The type is distorting/corrupting in some places. In places the type displays crisp and clean and in other places it is fuzzy and distorted although the type is same font, same style sheet and from same original word docs.
Any ideas how to solve please?

You say no transparency, but are you sure this is true? Transparency can be in an imported image, not just created inside ID. Any layered image, for example, uses transparency.
You don't mention the version of ID used to generate the PDF, nor whether you are exporting or printing to PDF. Exporting using any setting that is Acrobat 5 or higher compatible will prevent flattening, but printed PDFs are always flattened, and that could be the source of the problem.

Missing buttons perspective distort and touch type tool

Hi all -
I'm new to Illustrator and using video tutorials tutorials to learn my way around CS6. I've encountered two buttons in tutorials that I can't find anywhere on my workspace (I'm in layout): perspective distort and touch type.
Perspective distort: In the tutorial, when you click on the free transform tool a box pops up with 4 different options (constrain, free transform, perspective distort, free distort) - that box is not popping up. For reference: Transform artwork | Adobe Illustrator CC tutorials (approx 1:10). On my end there are no additional buttons for free transform.
Touch type: In the tutorial it has reference the touch type tool being in two different locations: in the character panel and in the type tool. No touch type tool anywhere in sight for me.

What type of distortion is this....and how is it fixed?

The attached file shows a sketch of the distortion of a close-up of a cigar.
Trying to fix this but I don't know where to start because I don't know what its called.

What causes this type of edge distortion?

I exaggerated it on this capture for visibility purposes, but even small amounts of this are annoying when trying to fine tune an image. This distortion is not visible on import but reveals itself as I adjust the contrast between extreme light and dark. In this case I am trying for a mostly silhouette, with a narrow range of highlights. Basically I just want to know what causes it, and if there is a way of avoiding it. It looks like an firmware error in writing the RAW data, but that is a wild guess. This was taken with a Nikon D700, 105mm micro-nikkor VR lens & SB900 strobe.

This is a limitation of the fill light slider.

Pumping, distorting and fading screen leads to freeze

Hi folks, I - or let me say my parents - are having big big problems with their new (1 day old) Mac Mini. Before I get to the details I have to say, that my parents have been Windows-Users all the time and I finally managed to get them to something stable and working, in short: to Mac.
Well, now you know that I'm automatically in deep trouble, when there's something malfunctioning.
To the problem itself: They said (I couldn't take a look by myself yet) that when they played the free variant of FreeCell 3D the screen starts pumping, flickering, fading, colorrotating, and so on ... then all the previous messageboxes, inputboxes and so on appear and finally the Mac Mini freezes totally and really needs to be cut off the powerline cause even the power button is "frozen".
In my opinion it could be a problem with motherboard-integrated graphics-chip.
What do you pros think about that problem??

Didelphodon, could you tell us where they got the program that shows this problem? Perhaps there is something wrong with it.
I think you will have to get directly involved with your parents' computer and educating them how to use it. Users coming from Windows to Mac (perhaps against their will) will tend to have incorrect instincts for dealing with simple problems -- which can turn a simple problem into a bigger problem.
For starters, show them how to kill a program that is not responding: Cmd-Option-ESC, which is similar to CTL-ALT-DEL in the PC world.
If they regularly deal with freezes by "pulling the plug", they will soon have a non-functional Mac.
BTW, could you describe for us their hardware set-up, including monitor and all peripherals? And as already been suggested, do they have proper and adequate electrical power for all their equipment?
