FADING OUT AN AUDIO FILE

Hi there, it's my first time on this discussions site and I'm just wondering if out there anyone can help me out, because i'm losing my mental sanity...
I am trying to do something I thought would be quite simple...to fade out an audio file imported from the itunes library into a logic express track...i go to the sample editor, select the area i'd like to fade out and when i open the Functions menu "fade out" is not highlighted, so not usable...any suggestions?
Thank you very much!

I am not sure what you are referring to when you say '..when i open the Functions menu 'Fade out' is not highlighted...'
So I guess it may depend if the audio file is protected or not (for instance if it is something purchased from itunes store, you can;t do much with them as-is). However the simplest way I fade out an audio file is to use 'automation' and choose the 'volume' option with 'read' setting and edit the automation 'line' to fade to nothing. Works very well.

I drag a music file from itunes. Its colour is orange
    The file plays OK.
I alter it (cut paste etc) and play it back. Its OK
I record it (file turns RED) there is no sound and no wave activity.
I stop recording and the file turns BLUE)
I play it back and its silent.

i'm afraid i'm still not following you. the changes you make ... are made.
if you record over your edited track you will erase it and replace it with the new recording you are making (in the case you described, the internal mic recording the room noise).
if you are happy with your edits, and want a new audio file, you're done. use the Share menu to export it
if you intend to record something else along with the edited track, create another track on which to record

  • Will loading a movie to iPod really wipe out all audio files?

    Hi folks:
In the midst of loading CD collection into Video iPod 80GB. Decided to load a DVD as well and received a warning message that "loading movie will delete all files".
Has anyone seen this? I can't imagine that Apple designed a product that is so un-user-friendly.
Any guidance would be appreciated. By the way, I just learned that I need to convert the DVD format to MP4 - but am reluctant to begin conversion process if loading a movie necessitates deleting all audio files.
    Thanks.

I am by no means an expert but would think that you are just adding the "file", not the playable on and that would convert the iPod into a masstorage device WHICH then would deleate all the musicfiles on it. What you need to do is to download a program to tranform the video file in to a mp4 file and then put it into iTunes and Then load it onto the iPod, that worked for me.

  • Can I turn off that auto-fading-out of audio?

I'm TRYING to build a video project like I would in a normal video editor. I imported the audio (pre-edited/mixed) but iMovie keeps fading the audio out at the end.
I swore I saw someplace to turn this off (Auto Fade-in/Fade-out Audio), but I can't find it now.
My cuts are micro-seconds in length, it's really annoying. My roundabout is to have a long piece of black leader at the end at all times. Works, but I'd rather it not be there.
(Black leader: Another annoying thing. I had to import a picture of black and export that as a m4v file and re-import that because "photos" can't be cropped by frames, only seconds.)
Ironically, I'm re-doing the titles for a project I did on the Media100, which I'm considering was more advanced (in terms of editing). Hrmph lol : D

    Hello,
Click on the audio clip and click on the audio adjustments button. Select Manual for fade in/out and turn the time value to 0.0 seconds.

In logic Pro, when I open up an audio track or software track and load an audio file/loop or software file loop, there is no sound. I will finally get a sound out of one of the audio or software tracks after opening at least 5 of them alternately. Is anyone familiar with this kind of bug? It's really frustrating as this takes much time to complete work.

I'm not sure I follow your words Fuzzynormal. You've helped by offering the insight that my issue in Logic Pro 9 is not a bug but a feature. But fell short of enlightenment by being a judge of character and of how one should interact in this forum. You insinuate that I haven't tried to solve the issue on my own when in fact I have. These forums are always my last resort. You further suggest that I am complaining. This is not a complaint. It is a genuine issue that I cannot figure out. Then you think that Brazeca is holding my hand and being a nice guy. Brazeca is helping people like me who might not be as adept at using Logic Pro as probably you are. This community forum was established to raise questions, answers and dicussion to help Apple's customers better undertand their operating systems and related issues. You are doing a disservice by not contributing positively and by trying to make this forum what you want it to be. You may have all the time in the world to try figuring out stuff but we are not all like you. We all have different schedules and different levels of understanding. And that is what this forum is for - to help people move forward. If you can't contribute positively then keep silent. And by the way, you say to "read the words that are printed down to explain to you how that works" what words are you talking about? Why don't you be of some help instead of trying to own this forum.

  • Logic Pro X fading out audio when sharing to iTunes

When I try to share a track I've edited to iTunes, the output has an unwanted fade out effect during the last 10 seconds, leaving the last 2 seconds unaudible. Is there any way I can stop this fade out from happening? I've tried turning off automations in the track, but that didn't seem to work.

Check your settings in iTunes.... Preferences/playback tab
You probably have Crossfade enabled... Uncheck it.. along with the other features in that same page... This then makes iTubes playback audio files exactly as they were created and intended to be heard.. without any enhancements.
Finally make sure you do not have any external plugin enhancements for iTunes running....

  • From FCP timeline...send to soundtrack pro audio file project is greyed out

The send to multi track is not greyed out but that's not what I need.
The stereo audio file is 48KHz and I have 7 tracks of audio in the sequence all of which are stereo except the VO track.
If I use "open in editor" to open a stereo file from the timeline soundtrack only imports one channel.
I'm trying to run these stero audio clips through STP using the waveform editor to quickly analyze and fix the "clicks and pops" also adding a low cut off filter to some of the clips to help eliminate some wind noise.
Seems the only way I can get it to work is to export each clip as an aiff file and then import it to STP, edit non destructively, save as a .stap file and then reimport that .stap file back into FCP........
Any ideas why the "send to STP audio file project" is greyed out? perhaps I have forgotten a preference setting somewhere?
    All help appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Dave

Hey, Dave. That can happen if you captured your files with two audio tracks instead of a single stereo track. The two channels will show up on two tracks, but they're not actually stereo in the quicktime file.
When you captured, did you click the "OO" button next to the audio channels to link them to stereo? You can look at the contents of the quicktime file with Quicktime Player and see if you've got one audio track with two channels assigned to "left" and "right". If you have some other configuration in the file, check out these old threads for workarounds, or recapture if that's an option.

  • I am trying to export all of the separate audio files from Logic Pro X so that I can transfer them into pro Pro Tools, however it won't let me do it without the panning information. The option to untick panning is greyed out. How can I do it?

I have exported the separate audio files, but it contains the panning information. When the export pop up window opens, the export with panning information box is ticked, but it is greyed out so it won't let me unselect it. How do I fix this problem?

A brief and probably non-helpful answer: I know of no way to eliminate your large amount of duplicates other than by repetitive, tedious manual effort.
*There has got to be a simpler way.*
I hope you're right, but I don't think there is a simpler way.
BACKUP:  It also appears that the only way I can back up the catalog is to shut down LR.  Really?!
    Yes, really

  • Is it possible to play an audio file out of labview (using myDAQ)?

    Hi all,
I am using a myDAQ (first time). I am trying to play an audio file at a certain time in my VI.
All the examples I have seen use the audio in and then play out of the audio out port. Is it not possible to simply find the file location and then play it out of the audio out under the given conditions in the VI or even import the sound? I am not trying to play large files or large quantities such as songs. I only want a congratulatory sound when the task is complete (2/3s).
Any help would be is appreciated (even to say it isn't possible!)
    Cheers
    Solved!

Why no just play a WAV file? Use Play Sound File.vi as shown here.

Check to see if you are trying to mistakenly select an .iba file.

  • Frequnecy Analysis windows zooms out full every time I close an audio file.

After zooming in on the frequency anaylsis window while working on an audio file, when I close the audio file, the windows zooms completely out.  Is there a way that I can keep the frequency analysis window at the same "level"?  e.g., I like to set the vertical level from about 10dB to -130dB, but when I close the audio file, it goes back to about 50dB to -300dB.

If it's the same as here, it has a different range showing if there's no file loaded, compared to when there is. Bizarre...

  • 5.1 surround audio into Final Cut Studio out to AVI file with 5.1 surround?

Someone wants to give me a 5.1 surround sound audio file for importing into my Final Cut Studio project, then I export my video (now with 5.1 surround) out to an AVI file with the 5.1 surround sound intact. How do I do this?
    thanks

    I also have this problem...
Purchased an HD TV show (Nip/Tuck) and selected the alternate audio track labeled "Surround Audio" and got that digital audio "NOISE".
Regular audio sounds fine - can play iTunes music and system sounds sound good, just can't select the alternate "Surround" audio track without getting the noise.
I'm on an "older" MacMini - Intel CoreDuo using the SPDIF optical output into a Pioneer 5.1 receiver set to the appropriate Optical input and "Dolby Digital". I attempted to change the audio input processing on the receiver...all of which have the noise described by others...
Would LOVE a solution to this problem...

  • HELP! Imported audio files now randomly out of sync!

I cut a short film a while ago. It was shot on HDV. I used some in-camera audio (from the HDV tapes) but also, some audio files from my sound mixer, which I originally imported as WAV files and manually sunc them up. Everything was fine.
Later, I outgrew the original media drive and upgraded, copying all of my media to the new drive. When I did that, I noticed that all of the camera audio was fine, but all of the audio that had been imported from those WAV files was randomly out of sync -- meaning that some files were 1 sec early, some 16 frames late, etc.
When I broke the link and re-linked to the original drive, all was fine again. Now, however, doing that makes those original files out of sync also.
When I relink these files now, FCP ALWAYS finds a discrepency with them: They supposedly have a different "Media Start and End" and "Rate." Apparently, that's why they're being offset, but they're the EXACT same files that I started with, so what's up?!??
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. They represent A LOT of work to fix one by one.

This is what it says under FORMAT: 24-bit Integer (Little Endian), Mono, 48.000 kHz
Incidentally, this is EXACTLY the same for both the files on the original drive (that play perfectly in sync) and the copied ones that are out of sync.
I realize that FCP likes AIFFs, but WAVs is what my sound guy gave me.
    Any other ideas?
