I was on my iphone and had messages open and than the screen just froze and turned blue and green and than slowly faded to black and now won't turn on. When i plug it into the wall it doesn't do anything. The phone is still on because my dad called the phone and it still rings. It has a glow to it too when it is in the dark so the screen must be on or something, i don't know. Any help please!!

  • Spontaneous black screen with Zen V Plus. / Where do I send it

    Dear Creative,
I purchased a 2GB Zen V Plus roughly four months ago. It was a present to myself and a tool to accompany me on my long flight. (You see, I was about to spend 9 hours on a plane as I moved to the United Kingdom.) Before I purchased this lovely device, I did extensi've research. I had planned on buying an MP3 player that exhibited the features I wanted AND would last quite a while. Everything I read about the Zen V Plus was perfect. Not a complaint in sight.
    Until today.
Over these past few months, I haven't actually used my Zen V very often. I can count on one hand the amount that I actually have used it. Once on a short walk to post office. Once on a walk to ASDA. Once whilst I was hoovering and waiting for my laptop to come in the post. Plus, the flight across the Atlantic -- about 2 hours continuous use. The rest of these four months, my little Zen V has been nestled away in its case, in my nightstand drawer, next to my bed.
Now that you know all this, I'm sure you can imagine my surprise when I pulled it out of its case this afternoon and discovered my screen was drastically faded. My initial thought was that it may be a problem with the contrast. So I inserted a thin object into the reset slot and powered my Zen V back on. This is when I discovered, well, nothing. A plain black screen. No lines, no text, no glow -- nothing. My buttons still glow with the blue color they always have when my Zen is powered on. Plus, when I push 'play' music happily sounds through my earbuds.
After I discovered that my precious Zen was broken, I quickly took to the Internet to find a solution. But what do I find? Several cases like mine strewn across message board after message board. Even a search for 'black screen' on the forum I'm currently posting this to returns with ten results.
Is this a problem with 'firmware' or is this a problem with design? Did you acti'vely know about this problem when these devices were tested and 'OK'd to ship? A better question is, do you care? Why is there no recall and why is there no repair time faster than two months?
Furthermore, I'm well under my warranty expiration date. It comes with a year from the date of purchase, no? The downside of this is that every bit of my Zen V paperwork is back in a box, within a box, within my storage unit in the USA.
So now that you know my problem, please help with a solution. How do I pursue repairs on my Zen V Plus? Where would I send it within the UK? Is my warranty still valid now that I've moved? If not, what will the price be to repair? Etc etc.
Don't get this letter wrong. The times that I've used my Zen V, I've absolutely loved it. It's a very nicely packaged mp3 player with some equally nice features. Trouble is, I expected it to hold out a bit longer than /3 of a year.
    Love,
    Vrai

Yep. Tried that. A few of times, actually. I tried to 'update the firmware' also. I did this blindly (more or less) as I couldn't actually see the screen. I just followed the physical instructions and tried each possible thing you could. I'm not actually sure if I ended up repeating myself. Did it about eight to be sure. I think there are only four options on the menu where you can access the firmware.

  • CS4: Flashing black screens between clips after exporting

I'm having some trouble with a particular project when exporting video, and I can't seem to track down the cause. The primary problem is flashing black screens between clips, with the additional problem of occasionally having a clip that I fade to be completely black (ie, the first clip just fades to black instead of fading to the second clip).
I say "occasionally" because the problem seems to migrate depending on what I do to try to fix it. I've noticed that if I shift the clips .1 seconds one way or another where there is a black screen, it will sometimes fix the problem, but when I fix one of them the exact same problem will pop up in another place where it didn't exist before. I can also export a few seconds of video where the problem occurs independently of the rest of the project and the issue won't occur, but will then reoccur in the same place if I export the project as a whole. All of the video is from the same source and is in the same format (.MOV from a Canon 7D). I've edited plenty of other stuff from the same source on the same computer, and the only other time I've seen this problem it's been fixed by just shifting the clips a little bit in the timeline as mentioned above. If anyone can suggest ANYTHING I can try to troubleshoot this problem I'd really appreciate it, because right now this is driving me up the wall.

I've been exporting to h.264 exclusively so far. Below is a screenshot of where one of the offending screens appears between the two clips on the timeline (the yellow in the bar up top is there because I had stepped that clip back .1 seconds like I mentioned earlier and not re-renered the sequence). I've also verified that this particular spot shows no black screen on the Program Monitor - it's a completely smooth jump from one cut to another. Please let me know if you see anything that might be causing this!

  • Black screen with a thick white vertical line down the middle?

I turned my iPod touch 5 off, it was at about 10%. I turned it back on a few minutes later and there was the apple logo, as usual, but with small white writing on the black background. Then, I plugged it into my charger, and the logo and writing faded away. Instead, there then was a black screen with a thick white vertical line going down the middle, and it seems to be stuck like that. What happened and how do I fix it??
Note: My home button is stuck and does not work. Also, I never updated my iPod to iOS 7.

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
When it says place the iPod in recovery mode,
Place the iPod in recovery mode using one of these programs:
    For PC
RecBoot: Easy Way to Put iPhone into Recovery Mode
    or
    http://joshuabailey1997.wordpress.com/2010/09/02/recboot-v1-3/
    If necessary:
    Download QTMLClient.dll & iTunesMobileDevice.dll for RecBoot
    and
    RecBoot tip
RecBoot may have problems on 64X windows, then try:
Tenorshare ReiBoot – Enter & Exit iPhone, iPad, iPod Recovery Mode with a Single Click
    For MAC or PC
    The Firmware Umbrella - TinyUmbrella
    Installs blootware on PC too
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try another cable
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Black screen, but still lit

I changed the battery thing a few times from "better performance" to "energy saver” about 4 times over a period of a few hours, it would act like it was switching from the regular screen to the screen saver, but the screen saver never came up. And sometimes this would happen while I was working, so it shouldn't be going to the screen saver at all. The screen would be black, but still lit up. I tried to press buttons to get it to the desktop, but it wouldn't do anything. It was in between asleep and awake. I had to restart it by holding down the power button.
The next day, I changed the battery setting again to try to fix it, but it did this same thing in a shorter amount of time (like 5 times in 5 minutes) The last time, it started "breathing" like it was turning on, but it never actually came on. I had to disconnect the battery to get it to stop.
Then, this morning, it worked fine for a few hours, but again while I was working, it did the same thing. I just restarted it again, but this time it didn't even come on. It went straight to the dark, lit screen. I turned it off and waited awhile. The next time I tried it, it went straight to the dark screen.
So, each time I would try it, it would boot less and less before finally dieing. The whole time the battery was fully charged. It would do it when it was plugged in and when it wasn't. I could hear the computer running.
Any comments? I just don't know what's wrong or what to do. From reading this, I think it would be the failed logic board problems with the battery problems, but like I said, the whole time the battery was fully charged.

I demonstrated this behavior at the Apple Store on 11/2/2013 on my machine and in their test environment. It is easy to reproduce and easy to avoid. I've provided details in this thread: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5475679.
When the display turns off, it goes through three stages: 1. the screen dims, 2. the screen goes black, 3. the keyboard backlight turns off. Tapping the spacebar or swiping the trackpad anytime during stage 1 will reset the timer. Tapping the keyboard or swiping the trackpad during stage 2 will freeze the black screen with the keyboard lit up. Waiting until stage three to tap the spacebar will wake up the display and everything is fine.
There is less than a one-second window between stages 2 and 3 while the screen is black but the keyboard is still fading that touching the input devices will hang the machine.
This can be reproduced on all mid-2013 MBA's, fresh out of the box, running Mountain Lion or Mavericks. Getting a new machine will not fix it, unless they do a hardware upgrade to fix it.

  • Experiencing Black screen/ Computer is on but screen looks like it is off.

Well recently i have been noticing that the screen on my all in one desktop has been going dark. Not like the usually hibernating kind of dark screen but more so computer it off screen. There was even a point in which i was in a messaging program and the screen went really dark in the middle of my typing. No messages about the graphic failing or anything like that showed up so im abit scared that my computer may be dying.  I have been rummaging through this support forums and looking for people with similar issues and i came across something that said the Bios may need to be updated of something to that extent. SO, i have been trying to figure out how to do that but when i search my product no updates show up or anything so im beginning to think my product has become obselete. That being said how would i go about getting these update i so crucially need and how can i prevent my computer from dying. All help will be greatly appreciated and i do need a computer because my family is starting a business and this computer is a vital role in said business.

    Hi @Xhinzo,
Here is the product page for your computer. You can check the Software and Drivers section and use Option 2 if it's not able to detect your specific product, then select your operating system and see what's available.
When the screen goes dark, if you shine a flashlight on it can you see anything in the darkness? I'm wondering if it might be a hardware problem -- maybe the backlight is going out. Have you tried using an external monitor or connecting it to your TV, to see if the darkening problem occurs on a separate screen?

  • Satellite P10: white and purple clouds fading across the screen when booting

I had been having problems with my SP-10 laptop so I bought a new hard drive (Fujitsu 60GB instead of standard 40GB) and fitted it myself. I was working fine with this for a long time until suddenly I had the strangest problem I have ever seen on a computer...
Sometimes, when booting the laptop, instead of the normal red "TOSHIBA" screen and the Windows XP startup message, the laptop simply shows some weird white and purple clouds fading across the screen, eventually fading to a very dark but not quite black screen.
I thought to begin with it was a problem with the DVD drive, as when it finally gave in and booted normally, the DVD drive was disabled. However, I have noticed in the BIOS, under "Advanced" that the InfraRed Port shows intermittently - it shows with the [Disabled] setting next to it, but will then disappear from the listing, then reappear again, and then go again and so on.
Sometimes my computer will be operating normally, then completely lock up (mouse and all) and will reboot with the clouds!
I have looked in the Windows Event Viewer for when the notebook has locked up and have seen something to do with an IRQ problem for the Infrared Port. I disabled the InfraRed port in Device Manager (I managed to enable it in the BIOS by loading standard BIOS settings) and restarted, but it started up with the clouds again, so I have a feeling the InfraRed port is the culprit - perhaps faulty hardware/loose connection as it is located quite close to the DVD drive and HD drive.
I was just wondering if anyone has ever seen anything like this before on ANY computer, and if they knew how to resolve it? It seems completely illogical that a faulty IR port could alter what is displayed on the screen at bootup, unless of course there is something wrong with the boot sector of my HD?
    Any ideas?
    Thanks.
    Tom

Well I can assure you my laptop has an InfraRed Port on it - I used to use it with my mobile phone for various things but don't bother now.
Good idea about attaching another monitor - hadn't thought of that. I will see what I can come up with.
I simply don't understand how anything except the display driver could be causing this, unless of course, another piece of hardware is conflicting with the display driver. But then why would it be intermittent and not constant? Anyway, I don't seem to have had the problem since I disabled the IR port (except the first time I disabled it) so here's hoping it's fixed.
Will definitely try attaching another display though. Good thinking.
    Thanks,
    Tom

  • Black screen problem dv6-3120us

Ive been having overheating problems and my brother stepped on my screen. Ever since then my laptop screen has been fading in and out at random times. It would be working one minute then just fade to a black screen. I was looking online and saw that it could be my motherboard so Im wondering if that is the problem and if so do i have to replace the whole thing, or is it another problem and not my motherboard at all.

    Hello AA-DRE,
You’re having a problem with the display shutting off.
Go into device manager and uninstall the display adapter. Restart the computer.
This will uninstall and reinstall the driver for the graphics.
Here is a link to device manager.
Check to see if you’re still having the problem.
    Do a hard reset.
    Turn the computer off.
Remove the power cable and the battery.
Hold down the power button for 15 sec while booth power sources are removed.
This should reset the hardware in the computer.
As you turn it back on tap the F10 key. This will load BIOS setup utility.
If you’re having the problem on this screen your hardware has gone out on the computer.
    Press F9 to load defaults.
Press F10 to save and exit.
If you were having the problem in BIOS you can connect an external monitor to the laptop to see if the problem is with the graphics/motherboard or the monitor.
If it doesn't happen on the external monitor you need to replace the display on the laptop.
Let me know how everything goes
    Have a good day.

  • Start-up problems, black screen or open firmware

My iBook G4 1.33GHz Dual USB, with 1 gb RAM memory has been troublesome lately. It's installed with the latest version of OS 10.4.9
When starting up the ibook, it will sometimes only show a black screen after the boot chime. Repeated force restart sometimes makes it boot up the open firmware (white screen).
Then I see the error message:
    "Illegal instructions at: %SRR0:ff85e778 %SRR1:00081000"
When I continue on with "mac-boot", I get the blue screen with a question marked box. So it can't find the startup disk.
This usually only happens when I'm done working for the day and close the lid on my ibook without manually clicking on the sleep mode when I put in in my drawer,. I've seen several times that the screen is still on when I close the lid, so it will continue to burn battery time.
I've managed to get the ibook to boot properly after removing the battery and letting it "cool-down" for 15-20 min. Also, zapping pram, vram sometimes works, but I don't know how much that actually helped. It worked once when I typed in the reset-nvram in the open firmware screen too.
I'd rather not have this happen at all! Any suggestions? Is this the much-talked about RAM memory failure?
Any suggestions would be very appreciated.

    HI,
*"I get the blue screen with a question marked box."*
That can mean several things. One, the drive is failing. Two, your iBook can't find a System Folder to boot from. Try booting while holding down the Option key which will prompt the Startup Manager window.
    MemTest
Boot from your install disk and check the hard disk for errors.
Insert Installer disk and Restart, holding down the "C" key until grey Apple appears.
Go to Installer menu (Panther and earlier) or Utilities menu (Tiger and later) and launch Disk Utility.
Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in the left panel.
Select First Aid in the Main panel.
(Check S.M.A.R.T Status of HDD at the bottom of right panel. It should say: Verified)
Click Repair Disk on the bottom right.
If DU reports disk does not need repairs quit DU and restart.
If DU reports errors Repair again and again until DU reports disk is repaired.
When you are finished with DU, from the Menu Bar, select Utilities/Startup Manager.
Select your start up disk and click Restart
While you have the Disk Utility window open, look at the bottom of the window where you see Capacity and Available. Make sure there is always 15% free disk space. Not enough disk space can cause directory corruption.
If you cannot boot from your install disk, try booting in Safe Mode
A flashing question mark appears when you start your Mac

  • My iMac 8.1 was slowing down and had permissions problems. I backed everything up, and then re-installed. Now all I get is a black screen. Power+D gives me a hardware error message: HDD-1336. Help!

My iMac 8.1 (10.6.8 ) was slowing down and had recurrent permissions problems, mostly with Java. I backed everything up, and then re-installed from time machine. Now all I get is a black screen which says I need to reboot. Power+D gives me a hardware error message: 4 MOT/1/40000003: HDD-1336 or HDD-1327. When I reboot from the OSX CD and start disc utilities everything checks out OK. When I reload 10.5.2 from the OSX CD everything seems to work OK and no more permissions problems. But then I loose all my email and safari stuff. Anyone have any ideas short of going back to my old PC?

    Cheers. Don
No unfortunatley it's too old, you are referring to Target Display Mode which became avialble in 2009, your 2008 needs to have the HD replaced. I'd still do that if everything else is OK or you can simply buy a new MM and display or even a new iMac  or an Apple refurbished iMac to save money.

    took a look into everything.log.
    that line looks pretty suspicious:
kernel: [drm:i915_get_vblank_counter] *ERROR* trying to get vblank count for disabled pipe 0
it occures around the time i did the last resume.
here is a relevant snippet from everything.log:
