Fail to complete HP restoration. Error mess - "CTO Error Flg" + "[205] UIA Write Failed 3 Times!!!"

After failing to recover my system from the recovery software on the D-harddisk partition, I bought HP Recovery disks from HP support and installed the first disk as per instructions and turned on the PC . I also pressed ESC on powerup and then selected F9 to boot from DVD. After 5 minutes of accessing the HP recovery disks in the DVD drive, an error message resulted stating that "HP Restoration Incomplete". I looked at the details of the error and showed another error message stating "[205] UIA Write Failed 3 Times!!!". ANyway I try to make the PC recover either from the Recovery manager using the HP Recovery Manager & Recovery software on the D-Hard Disk partition or using the HP Recovery DVD s I get both ways the same "CTO Error flg" + "[205] UIA Write failed 3 times". ANy thing else that can be done, please?
This question was solved.

Thank you for the response. Since I posted my problem description on this Forum, I was working directly with HP Support and ultimately found that I needed to push the F9 button immediately as the PC was poweringup. DOing this correctly then let the HP provided Recovery disks ( I bought them from HP) be actually read by the system and recovery correctly proceded.
But this shows there is some buggy issue with the HP hard disk test that i ran several times and each time showed a hard disk Fault message with result [305 ] and also [303] - which led me to almost placin an expensive purchase for a replacement HP 320 GB disk drive.
Thankfully the HP support people were so thorough with me and kep calling me back to follow up with me to check how I was doing that then I got my HP laptop back working. otherwise I would have made a mistake and installed third disk, the HP Driver disk - and its working great now and faster than ever.
Thank you Hewlett Packard.
Actually I was aware of this type of support from HP since the 1970s when I was buying and installing HP A2100 servers, then HP 1000 servers, then HP 9000 server, and I met  and had presentations from HP's Engineering team and management in  California presenting to me and my boss the the next type of  systems that HP was developing for the future,  and then the HP-DEC ALpha machinea - All of this to have the best  computers with the best support to operate General Electric's (GE Americom at the time) critically important ground control systems that fly most of the commercial SATCOM satellites over the USA.  Even though I have left that job a while back, SES AMericom is still using HP computer to fly upwards of 20+ satellites over the USA and around the world.
Just shows why HP is the longest lived computer company and will continue to be!!!
My Support case number was 3013351909 so that whoever the HP support lady might get some credits for for her excellence and how well she persisted on her initiative to continually checkin with me and guide me and helped prevent me from buying a hard disk when I didn't need to.
Thank you HP and Regards to the long lived realtionship with me!

  • HP Pavillion dv7-6b56nr "[205] UIA Write FAILed 3 times !!!"

My mother's Laptop starting running "slow".
She didn't tell me and start running it in Safe Mode with Networking all the time to get it online.
Then it would not boot into Windows at all.
    She brings it to me.
HDD tests come back 100% no errors.
I use Recovery Manager to reinstall from the Recovery partition.
Everything seems to be fine until I press continue to reboot into Windows to install after recovery has built the partition (AFAIK that is what is happening at that point).
After Windows loads up, the Recovery Manager pops up right away and states "Restoration Incomplete".
Clicking on Details brings up a CTOERROR.flg document that states: "[205] UIA Write FAILed 3 times !!!".
At this point I am confused. The recovery software is malfunctioning, the HDD is bad, or maybe a combination of both. I have looked for the Recovery disks on the HP Software and Driver Support site and after entering all the information asked for I get nowhere with no option to dowload OR purchase (which I would happily do). I am going to try a clean install with an old Windows 7 disk/key and see if that works.  Any additional support would be great.
    Thanks,

    Its solution is quite simple.
For solving this problem, you need a windows 7 or 8 dvd(or by a bootable pendrive with  win7,8).for complete restoration you have to follow the steps
Step1:insert win7/8 dvd and restart your pc.Enter the boot menu and select cd/dvd option to boot from dvd(for bootable pendrive, select that option).
Step2:After windows have loaded the windows files, click on install win7/8.
    Step3:select custom installation
Step4:Now you will get a window with your harddisk partions.Click on Advanced option in the bottom of the table showing partition list.
Step5: Delete all partions for obtaining a single drive.
Step6:After deleting all drives, you will get a single drive showing your harddisk size.Click on that drive and then select 'new' from bottom options.
Step7:Then windows will show a warnig.Click on 'YES'.And dont make any change to partion size and proceed.
Step8:After doing this you will get a 100mb system reseved memory and rest of your harddisk size as a drive. Then close the installation window.Restart you pc with windows 7/8 recovery disk. And do the same procedure you done early. Then the installation will complete without any errors. And you can have the OS as per the installation media have..
    good luck..

  • HT201210 Iphone 6 can't complete the restore error code (56)

    I'm getting this msg :
The iPhone "iPhone" could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (56).
after I try all the steps in apple site to fix it but it still the same.
after searching I found it stop in the last. Failed when trying to send the baseband file.
any idea how to pass or fix this baseband file ?
    Thanks.

The original post referred to a jailbroken phone, and the error is because the phone is jailbroken and probably cannot be fixed. As I've never seen that error on a phone that was not jailbroken, can I assume that yours is jailbroken also?

  • Pavilion dm-3170se [205] UIA writed FAILed 3

system crashed and will only boot into HP Recovery Launch page. Performed all the steps, went into all the hotkeys and performed all the tests and all came back at 100% or with nothing wrong. Still cannot do restore,  recovery, or the image. It goes through the process and at the end i get the message CTOERROR.flg - Notepad [205] UIA Write FAILed 3 times !!!
I have been down now since last Thurday and today is Tuesday. i am using my son's laptop for help.
Also, I purchased this second hand and there is not any software discs for windows or drivers. I have purchased a new flash drive to put windows and drivers onto for the restore and it says there is not enough room. I am so lost. I thought i could maybe download the software from HP through my son's computer onto the flashdrive and then load to my computer that way to get my systems started . Anyone have an idea where i went wrong?

Is the (twenty five characters) complete product key visible on the Windows certtificate of authenticity? You will neeed it to perform a clean install of Windows 7.
have you tested the hard disk?

If it has NEVER been jailbroke, here are some standard repair procedures:
First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  It could take well over an hour!  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow the on-screen directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod.  As before, say "yes."  Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time.  If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device.  Corrective action is simple -  choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore (or it doesn't help), go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here.  You WILL lose all of your data (game scores, etc,) but, for the most part, you can redownload apps and music without being charged again.  Also, read this.

  • Factory restore error message - "Product Restore %s failed to restore your system"

While doing a factory restore I am getting the error message - "Product Restore %s failed to restore your system".
Not sure what it means ... I am on a Lenovo 3000 N100. I've been having not so much battery won't charge as battery won't stay charged problems.
When starting up with the battery in ... the battery seems to bedrawing so much from the adapter the N100 shuts down.
While shutdown the battery seems to draw from the cmos battery.
When I power up again the cmos battery is drained ... the bios clock has to be reset.
A few times like this and I took the battery out and just ran on the adapter.
Taking the battery out didn't stop the n100 from timing out(read turning off). What did stop it
is going into the memory panel when its off and power is diconnected and shorting the Cmos battery.
Then when powered up it goes straight into loading the recovery package and actually
gets to the point where it is ready to format the disk before it gives me the message - "Product Restore % failed to restore your system".
Last night I actually got it to factory restore ... but then like a complete idiot I put the battery
back in thinking the restoration would have resolved the charging problem ... it didn't.
I know ... I know ... I'm a couple of months too late for a new battery ... but if anybodies got any ideas
how to get around this ""Product Restore %s failed to restore your system"" so I can get back
    to windows I'd appreciate it.

I've had a similar problem when attempting a restore to factory settings on my Lenovo 3000 N200, running Windows XP.  I resolved it by leaving the battery plugged in, but by disconnecting the AC power adapter. Then when the restore was up and running I then plugged in the adapter so the laptop wouldn't run out of power before completing the restore.

  • SBS2008 Standard Complete PC Restore failed with (0x80070495)

Urgent help needed!  I am trying to recover my SBS2008 standard machine after
a RAID controller failure.  I removed the dead adaptec 51645 and am using 2
1TB RAID1 on the ICH9R.  I then proceeded to initiate Windows complete PC
restore with the SBS2008 standard disc.
The old RAID on the 51645 is only 720GB large so the new 1TB RAID1 should be
    large enough for the restore.
But I keep on getting "The Volume ID could not be found. (0x80070495)"
error.  Nothing seems to be helping.
    So please help!!!!

I somehow managed to rescue the server thru a lot of brute force efforts.....  Essentially, the problem seems to be that the bootsect config has been corrupted on the backup images.
    Symptoms:
    1)  No concrete errors from WSB eventlog.
    2)  When trying the repair option from the SBS2008DVD, Unknown on Unknown device, Windows 2008 may appear at the Select OS to repair dialog box.  Or it could be blank for the new drive.
    3)  When attempting complete PC Restore, operation will fail despite having enough HD space with error:
"The Volume ID could not be found. (0x80070495)"
    When I ended up doing:
    1)  Find a Server 2008 machine.  I need WSB that to access the backup image from the backup drive.  Logon with admin rights.
    2)  Attached the drive containing the backup to the Server 2008 machine.  The drive will be automatically assigned a letter but the user may not have access to the backup drive's content (yet).
    3)  Launch WSB.
    4)  Attempt some recovery operation with WSB.  For eg, restore some directories from the backup image onto a temp location.  This gives the system access to the backup drive contents.
    5)  At this point, open up a windows explorer, and look for the backup VHDs on the backup drive via the drive letter.  Copy them out to a separate directory.  The VHDs will be named with GUIDs, rename them to shorter filenames.
    6)  Find a WS2008R2 or Windows 7 machine.  They have native VHD mounting capabilities.
    7)  Mount the VHDs via disk managements.
    8)  Use HDD cloning applications to clone the different VHDs to other hard disks.  I used Norton Ghost14 on my W7 machine.  Make sure to clone the system drive (C:) with options to set bootable(active) and copy MBR.
    9)  Move the cloned disk(s) back to the original server.  And reset BIOS to boot from the correct disk with the restored system partition.
    10)  Try booting.  If everything is ok, you will get an error regarding something about ntloader.exe.
    11)  Boot with the SBS2008DVD again.  Choose repair.  Go into a command prompt.
    12)  CD into C:\windows\system32.  This should be your restored system drive.
    13)  fire up bcdedit.  Output will probably show unknown in several entries.
    14) Reset the unknown entries with commands like bcdedit /set {default} device partition=C:
At this point, reboot.  I was able to successfully recover the server this way.  Definitely a real hassle.  How the BCD on the backup images got corrupted, I have no idea.  And this shouldn't be so difficult to fix as all the underlying data is fine........

Thanks for your reply Michalo. I am in India and here Apple care does not work on Sundays. I have been without my phone for the entire day. Perhaps tomorrow will bring some respite. There is not solution to "error (-1)" on any forum it seems. I found one forum which suggested use of Tiny Umbrella. Any idea about that?

I am unable to backup my iphone 5 iOS 6.0.1 (connected directly to laptop USB) with my itunes 11 for Win 7 64bits. The process starts and fails to complete giving the error: itunes could not complete backup of iphone because iphone disconnected.
I have restarted the PC, the iphone, changed the lightining cable and nothign resolves it: backup never completes.

Hi, I disabled the antivirus and the firewall. Same result
I even deleted the backup folder inside C:\Users\...\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup to eliminate any corruption in the old backup files.
Nothing changed: Session either times out or i get the same error message: itunes could not back up iphone because iphone disconnected. It always happens during step 3 out of 4 which is "transfering purchased apps from iphone to PC" and comes after step 2 which is backup.
My iphone 5 is not jailbroken, and is a factory unlocked phone.
    Any other suggestion?

  • Error "The Connection Failed" in Time Machine, Migration Assistant and Restore From DVD

I am receiving this error when trying to connect to my Time Machine Backup in my Time capsule. I input the proper password to access my Time Capsule and It returns me to the screen with the caption "The connection failed" under the Time Capsule name in the "Select your Disk" screen. What would cause this error. I am connecting via WIFI (AirPort) and have full signal. I am using Mac OSX 10.6.8
I recently had my 1TB hard drive replaced and I am attempting to restore using Time Machine, migration assistant or from the startup dvd (tried multiple ways, no success). The initial setup of mac OSX 10.6 would not let me connect or other attempts after erasing hard drive and reinstalling OSX from disk.
Worked on it all weekend and don't have enough beer to drown the frustration, any help is appreciated.

You are correct TM is not at all easy to do a full restore.
To answer your question: Yes TM disk does show up in finder.
After my initial startup setup I was able to start TM and access all my previous backups. I migrated some files and was able grab the data from finder. Not satisfied with that I tried to do a restore to that previous date, to no success. I then erased the HD and reinstalled OSx and tried again from the setup screen. That didn't work, sulked over some beers. I then tired with Migration assistant...same result (more beer).
In starting TM after trying MA, only one backup was showing in the Star screen (today). None of my previous backups were showing. Since exiting TM it has been "Making Backup Disk Available" ( xGB of 6.29GB). Considering the size, I can only assume that these are my previous backups.
I have reviewed Pondini's posts, FAQs, and tutorials. I am a little scared to try and locate the drives through Terminal as in Pondini's TS #6 guide. If I can get my previous backups to show up, I will be happy with dragging files from Finder to restore my data and slowly work at restoring my settings/applications.
