Fail to Create Product Recovery Media with x301

I purchased an x301 recently with Vista home and fail to create a product recovery disk disk so far.
By going into thinkvantage using "Create Product Recovery Media", shortly I was prompted to indicate a recordable disk drive, which in my case is an external D drive CD burner, then the "little red ball" started to run showing "extracting files please wait"; BUT it won't STOP even after an hour or so and it also did not display any error messages. In fact, the program never went into the next stage prompting me to insert a blank disk. When I tried to stop the program, it sort of hangup and I had to shut down my computer by hard-pressing the turnon button!  After several trial I gave up.
Alternatively, when I doubleclick the Q drive to initiate "create product recovery media", the program indicates that it is not responding.
Strangely, I have managed to perform "Create Recovery Media" successfully under Thinkvantage and burned a CD (note - not the Create Product Recovery Media).
I have even gone the extent to do a Full Factory system restore which verifies that my Q drive is working very well!
So, what could be the problem and I'd really want to create a set of product recovery disks!!
Cheers.

If you call lenovo up, i think they will send you a set of recovery media for free, given that you can't create it in the first place.

I installed Rescue and Recovery version 4.21,but i do not hav the option to create product recovery discs.I am able to enter the "Create Recovery Media" - But unlike the first image Here,i only have the option to create rescue media, not the recovery discs.
I tried the "Create Recovery Media" option and inserted a DVD.After a few minutes a message popped up saying something like "Label the disc as 'Rescue And Recovery Startup Disc'" with about 300mb worth of files, and no product recovery discs \operating system discs.

  • What is difference between "Product Recovery Media" and "Recovery Media"?

Both of the above are options in my ThinkVantage Folder. I asked Lenovo (Atlanta?) and uhm...they did not know either.
....And will either option give me the option of doing a clean Vista Ultimate install minus bloatware?

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Got it - thanks.
For such a critical function one would think they would make that a tad more clear.  You can also click on the Lenovo Partition. It will prompt you to create Recovery Media there as well. The contents of which match neither the Product Recovery Media nor the Recovery Media.

  • How do I obtain product recovery media for my Satelite Pro A100?

When I purchased my A100, I was not given any product recovery media. I assumed that it would be pre - installed on a partition on my hard drive. Seems not to be the case.
I wish to resize my primary partition to enable me to install linux on the space that would then be available. Whilst Linux will do that for me, just in case there is an error, I need a copy of the product recovery media for XP and other pre-installed software. Toshiba's contact details on the site are hard to locate.
So I wondered if anyone can point me in the correct direction? I am a UK user.

    Hi
If the recovery disk was not shipped with the notebook, then you should be able to create an recovery disk using the preinstalled tool called Toshiba Recovery Disk Creator.
I think you didnt read the user manual after you have received the notebook
Anyway usually the Recovery disk could be ordered here:
    https://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/landing.aspx
But not all recovery disks would be available especially if the notebook series has been discontinued this means that you could not order a recovery disk if the notebook series is too old You could also try to contact an local ASP (service partner) in your country for a help and could try to order such disk there.
Otherwise you have to use an original MS Windows disk all needed drivers are downloadable from the Toshiba European driver page.

  • Unable to create RnR recovery media on Z60m

I have a Z60m (2529-FKG) with XP Pro. I intend to replace the HD (100GB -> 300GB) and at the same time reinstall XP.
Q1) I have an XP Pro OEM CD. Can I just use that to install, using the XP Pro key from my Z60m? Which XP Pro key should I use -- the one from the bottom of the machine, or the "-OEM-" one that System Properties shows, or the one shown by the "secret keyfinder" utilities?
Q2) Once I have a clean XP Pro install, I'll need to install a limited set of drivers (and possibly selected tools e.g. power manager) from the ThinkVantage set. Will I still be able to install these on a "non-factory" XP Pro install? Does the "check its a Lenovo/IBM" check the BIOS string or the OS or check for existence of the recovery partition or what?
I want to retain the option of the RnR recovery partition functionality (in case I ever decide I really really wanted the bloatware-version of XP Pro that it gives me...).
I hadn't previously created RnR recovery media so I tried to create the media using Start->ThinkVantage->Create Recovery Media. It fails with an "encountered a problem; send error report" dialog.
I am currently on RnR 3.0.027. Lenovo support wouldn't send me the media without charge and suggested I upgrade to a later version of RnR instead. I downloaded the 3.0.{025,027} -> 3.1.042 upgrade, but it fails to install claiming that the installed copy of Rescue and Recovery - Client Security Solution.msi "does not match the installed source". The notes for RnR 4.2 state that it can't be used to upgrade RnR 3.0.x, and that it requires CSS 8.2 (I currently have CSS 6.0 installed).
Q3) Should I uninstall RnR 3.0 & CSS 6.0 then install RnR 4.2 and CSS8.2? Will that cause any problems? I don't have any "secure drive" files, or any backups I need to keep (I'll be making a new set using standard tools). But I do have fingerprint security configured for power/disk passwords...
Q4) Or can I copy the recovery partition and keep the "press blue" functionality some other way e.g. by using a partition copying tool (or Linux dd /dev/sdaX ...) to copy the MBR and the recovery partition onto the new drive? Does it matter which primary partition the recovery partition goes onto?
    Thanks in advance
    Misha

hello mishad welcome to the forums
A1)you say that you have an OEM version of xp?does it belong to lenovo?did it come with your system??you can usually use such kind of cd's with recovery cd set you obtain with your computer.
regarding your other query no you cannot use the key from the COA sticker on your system  to install the OEM version of xp you have
A2)if you want to create recovery media in the future and ensure that the hidden partition is created then you have to make the recovery media from the hidden partition of your system only
A3)if you install the OEM verison of xp(which  OEM does it belong to?)you have to activate your system manually that would mean you are not using a licensed copy of windows coz that OEM cd was not intented to be installed on your system
if you clearly read the  EULA of microsoft you can notice that xp can be installed only on one pc at a time..so i think you got my point
A4)regarding the thinkwantage technologies issue yeah you may be able to install the power option and all no doubt...the bios does not check whether its your xp or not for that purpose
A5)but if you do use the xp(OEM) one which you intend to install the BIOS will check for it.......rememebr your copy of windows you obtained from lenovo is PRE-ACTIVATED at the factory itself.......
A6)in any case use the recovery cds from the xp you have from lenovo aka the hidden partition in the future if you want to reformat every thing the hidden partition will be created by the lenovo recovery discs once again.IF YOU USE OTHER XP CD YOU MAY NOT BE ABLE TO CREATE A RECOVERY PARITION ON THE NEW HDD
    hope this info helps
    Cheers and regards,

  • How to create production version & Explain with procedure

how to create production version & Explain with procedure
    Madan

    Hi Madan,
Production Versions are used to describe the production process to be used for planned / production order.
    Why is it required?
Suppose you have 2/3 production lines and 2/3 alternative BOMs to produce one Finished Goods.
How system will come to know which BOM and Routing to be used. This is done thru Prod.Version.
In production version we maintain the combination of BOM and routing.
Also it can be designed with lot size or validity period.
Go to MM02--->MRP4 / Work scheduling view -
    > Prod.Version.
Enter the validity period and lot size. and the production version should be unlocked.
After entering the reqd. routing no. and BOM alternative , carry a check.
After getting the Green signals ,Continue.
Thus you have saved the prod. version.
    Mass processing TCode- C223.
Hope it would clarify you the basic of production version.

  • X301 - Problem creating Product Recovery Disc

    Hello,
I recently purchased an X301 laptop and have been trying to create a product recovery disc but to no avail.
Shortly after I begin the process, I get a message saying "Drive is not ready or is busy performing another operation."
Can anyone please suggest what might be the problem?
    The DVD burner is a Mat**bleep**a dvd-ram UJ-844 and I am using a SONY DVD+R DL disc.
    Thanks.

    machdeuce, welcome to the forum,
which OS do you have installed?
I have noticed that, using Vista, that the Vista "autoplay" function interferes with creating recovery discs. It sort of "takes over the drive". When required, insert the blank disc and click on the OK button before the Vista " autoplay has a chance to run. The autoplay dialogue field will come up and show the usual; copy files to disc etc., but you can then just close it without worry as the R&R has already received it's "orders" and will continue without problems.
    Hope this helps

  • Windows 8.1 downgrade to windows 7 pro recovery media with Satellite S50-BBT2N22

I have a few questions about my recovery media.
    1. My new Satellite S50-BBT2N22 was ordered with Windows 8.1 downgrade-able to Win 7 pro. Should I build my recovery media before or after I downgrade to win 7 pro?
    2. My new Satellite S50-BBT2N22 does not have a DVD drive. How will I save my recovery media?
    Regards
    Dennis

    1. Before.  Your Recovery partition will remain Windows 8.1. After downgrading to Windows 7 and beginning operations, you should make frequent HDD copies to an external drive anyway.
    2. Use a Flash Drive in a USB port.  See your User's Guide starting on page 46 for complete instructions
for making Recovery Media and Recovering the HDD.

  • How to create W7 recovery media from retail Windows 8

I installed retail W8 on my new X230T upon purchase.

I'm not sure you can, bitlocker ties your installation to the hardware.

  • Creating bootable TS media with limited security role

    Hi
We're giving our remote engineers the ability to perform OS deployment.  Part of this task will require them to be able to create their bootable USB task sequence media.
We've created a security scope relevant for the engineers location.  Their local DP, and the relevant boot image, have been added to this scope.
When we run the Create TS Media wizard (running with the permissions the engineer has) we can choose the boot image and DP as expected.  However, when we try to select Management Points, none are listed.
We can't find anything pertaining to scoping Management Points, so what else could we be missing?
Thanks in advance for any advice.

That's exactly what I was trying to refer at. You could add an additional scope and add it to their administrative user,
or also add their scope to the primary site server object. Another option to limit their options is to create another scope and role (with only read permissions) and add them together to the administrative user.
    My Blog: http://www.petervanderwoude.nl/
    Follow me on twitter: pvanderwoude
I can't see an option to add a scope to the primary site server object.
However, I looked in Administration -> Site Configuration -> Sites and when selecting the site name I was able to add the engineer's scope to that.  That seems to have done the trick.  There's now more things visible to the engineers than
I'd wanted them to see, but it's all read-only so no risk I guess.

  • Failing to create new SQL farm with FSconfig.exe for ADFS federation Services on an Azure SQL

I'm building ADFS in Azure. My plan is to use the Azure SQL. The problem is that FSconfig seams not to work with Azure SQL. Here's what i did untill now:
    - I followed the documentation and created a new login and user (adfslogin, adfsuser) in a new
"adfsv21" database. Then i added the user to db_owner role.
    - From c:\windows\adfs i run FSconfig: FSConfig.exe CreateSQLFarm /ServiceAccount mysa /ServiceAccountPassword ******** /SQLConnectionString "database=Adfsv21;server=[azureServer];User Id=mysa;Password=********" /AutoCertRolloverEnabled. I
tried it with both accounts, mysa and adfsuser with the same poor results.
The result is: "The following error occurred: The specified service account mysa is not valid.  Specify
a different service account, and try again."
    - I configured odbc and tested the connection. mysa can connect but adfsuser caanot. Why?
To be short, its not working. See this post with similar problems: google to "SQL server farm configuration error"...
So, is Azure SQL & ADFS not complatible? Really not?

My apologies for take a super long time to reply.  Are you still having issues here?  How can we help?
    Thanks Guy

  • Fail to create a VD Collection with error "The Virtual desktop template does not meet the provisioning requirements."

I get the following error when I try to create a Virtual desktop
    collection;
"The Virtual desktop template does not meet the provisioning requirements."
although I'm specifing a sysprep'd VM installed WS2012 for a virtual desktop template.
Is there any way to resolve?
Or, is there any couses of this message?
    thanks.

I realize this is an old thread.  I'll post and see if I get a response.  If not, I'll create a new thread.  My question is how does Microsoft suggest SPLA partners create VDI pools since they cannot license Windows 7 or 8 via SPLA?  Why
would you restrict the provisioning to only the desktop operating systems that you won't allow partners to license for deployment?
Are there any plans to change this to include 2008 R2 or WS2012 as the base OS for a VD template?

  • HP Recovery media creation troubles-Can't run

    Hi,
I have a hp pavilion dv6 notebook, operation with windows 7 64bits. I'm trying to create a recovery media with a usb drive, i followed the recovery instructions given by HP support. The creation began and everything was fine, till the step of device verification, there's an error message at 31%. The message is:
" we are experiencing errors in recovery media creation. please try again"
I tried again, but same result.
I tried to change the "User account control settings" to "nevery notify" as recommended by HP recovery process instructions, but same result.
In hp recovery manager, the system recovery option can not be highlighetd (Disabled: please use recovery media to recover your system).
Trying to look for a solution in forums, I found that trying to create the media in safe mode can resolve the problem, so tried it. When i run the HP recovery media creation under safe mode, its window is displayed with front screen saying: "Please insert battery. Battery must be installed and the computer must be connected to the power adapter to continue this process". I wish to specify that my battery is inserted and the power adapter too. So why it tells me that ???!!!!
I tried to reactivate (D:Recovery) volume, but it is  not highlighted, so I can't do it.
Trying to run recovery process by pressing F11 at startup, give me a windows boot manager screen with the follonwing:
"windows failed to start. a recent hardware or software change might be the cause. to fix the problem:
    1.insert windows installation discand restart.
2.choose language. 3. repair your computer.
if you do not have this disc. contact system administrator or computer manufacturer for assisatnec.
    File: \Boot\BCD
    Status: 0x0000225
info: an error occured while attempting to read the boot configuration data."
Tell me please how to create my recovery usb drive in this case, to finally recover my computer to factory state because I think I have a serious problem with it, specialy startup.
The disk management  tell me that all the computer partitions are healthy and dynamic, all are NTFS, except HP_Tools which is FAT32. I also created a partition (F of 440 Go/910 Go when I bought the laptop. In case it May help...
    Thank you in advance

When you created the extra partition your hdd was converted from Basic to Dynamic_which breaks the Recovery partition function. It also breaks the ability to create Recovery Media from the partition.
You will need to use Disk Management to delete the extra partition. You will also need to convert the hdd back to Basic- which will require a little more work.
Use Option 1 here to convert to Basic:
