Fail to install Lion

Hi.
After purchaising Lion on the app store, the install starts (showing 36 min to go), but stops after a minute. The system tells me that the disk is damaged amd that a repair is needed.
I do a rapair via the disk utility, but it doesn't help (problem with the node structure). I also tried to repair from the install disk of mac os x 10.6.8, didn't work.
Any ideas?

I tried the lion recovery (CMD-R), but then it starts the windows recovery program (DOS). Win 7 is installed via bootcamp.
Grrrr....

  • I tried to instal lion but my iMac says "install fail because hard drive is damaged and can't be repaired" and my only option is to restart and it immediately tries to download it again, won't let me back to any other screen.  Is there anything I can do?

I am trying to install Lion and I keep getting a fail message that says "Mac OS X could not be installed because the disk Hard Drive is damaged and can't be repaired". It only gives me the option to restart to try again but fails every time, an no other option.   Is there anything I can do?

I'll guess that you're upgrading from Snow Leopard? You should be able to start using your original install dvd by inserting the disc and restarting while holding the C key. Run Disk Utility from your install disc  and try to repair the drive. Then try the upgrade again.

Don't know if this is a Lion only issue or what.  I've sent the full log to palmlevel3.  Hope this keeps someone from ripping their hair out, like I did...
Post relates to: HP TouchPad (WiFi)

this issue was particularly upsetting today, as my phone was at 100% last night, during the night Irene knocked our power out, and apparently something about this drained by battery to only 40% when I woke up. Luckily my laptop is charged, so I can usb charge my phone, but I had hoped to use that later in the day, not first thing in the morning.
hopefully a resolution to this is being worked on.

Mountain Lion fails to install saying it cannot create the recovery; I had a similar problem with Lion and the Apple Store that helped me resolve it gave me an installable version of Mountain Lion on a flash drive for my inconvenience....is there some trick I am missing or do I need to make an appointment with a genius...

I have the MacIntosh volume and the Boot Camp partition only.  I know that when I installed Lion, I had to go through a whole back-up and recovery of Windows and then re-format the drive.
The tech at the Apple Store had a previous life as a MSCE and was very helpful.  I believe he even said that I should not have htis problem with Mountain Lion which is why they gave me the flash with it onboard.  I was in the process of starting a new job when I went to Lion, so I have waited to do this next and probably last upgrade to this old MBP since I doubt Apple will support this MBP in Maverick.
I do not have another installation, so that is not an option.  I will try to create an external, I have plenty of hard drives around and see if I can get it done that way.  It might take me a week or two to get back to it, but I will comment back upon completion of that effort.  Thanks for your help....Dave Iverson

  • Lion fails to install. Installing from a external hard drive or SD card.

Running a early 2009 MacBook pro

Apple not supports installing Lion from selfmade usb's. Because nobody knows what tool you used to create it, and if files are missing on the stick.
Also the permissions for the files need to be set correct, else the installer cannot read its content.
Normally you boot from such a stick and the install process is just very similar to the one of Snow, ie. use disk utility to erase disk ( Notice : for Lion the partition scheme needs to be A GUID/GPT , not MBR , the created partition must be Mac OS Journaled or "HFS plus" ), then point the installer to the newly created harddisk and thats all. After install it reboots and you are set : The welcome wizard / Migration Assistant starts.
Have you 2GB of Ram ? Below that the Installer fails.

  • Installing Lion fails on MacBook Air?

I just tried to install Lion and it seemed to going well but at the end said it could not install and referred my to apple support no recovery. My MacBook Air is running 10.6.8 and it is the earlier version with a 1.6 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo. It says it should work but it does and then at the end tells me a bunch of my fonts will now conflict. No when I go on Safari most of the text is just xxxxxx
    Oh dear. Anyone help?

It ought to work to download. Or you can copy the DVD on to a memory stick. External DVD a vital need e.g. if you buy software for download it is essential to back it up to CD/DVD in case the disk fails and it can't be downloaded again.

    Hi all,
my macbook pro became extermily slow for some reason, I rebooted it many times and same problem so I decided to reinstall the Mac OS X lion from the internet.
I tried installing  lion internet recovery, it downloaded it and restarted. I got the "Install Mac OS X" window. then while installing I got the sad message " Install Failed Mac OS X could not be installed on your computer" and the only botton is "restart". Everytime I restart I gor the same message. Now I am trying to start from the harddisk but I does not show when you start the pc, keep clicking the "alt" botton. It only shows "Mac OS X Installer" and "Recovery HD". What Should I do?
    I appreciate your help. Thanks.

    Thanks Baltwo.
I could format it and get the back up from time machine but it is not up to date so I want to leave it at last.
I tried to back it up on external hard drive and got an error, tried CCC for back up and error again.

Installer log shows CoreDoclMinimizeItems failed (-4959) or just miniize failed.
Any idea how to resolve this???
    ABout to kill it all.

You are on the wrong track about Windows machines. Installing Windows, 7, for example, is a breeze using a variety of procedures. But, you are right that things are changing with Mac installing--changing in ways that can be quite confusiing--all primarily because Apple wants to get away from using optical drives.
It is difficult to understand what you are saying--partially because of the changing installation environment. I think I pretty much get what you are trying to do. But, I think that there are problems--possibly arising because Lion did not install correctly in the first place.
In this regard, I am with Kappy. I would start over by being sure that everything you can back us is backed up and then reinstalling Snow Leopard, upgrading Snow to the latest version via software update, and downloading Lion from the app store. If you go this route, then stop Lion before it installs and make a copy of the Lion installer (the installer should be in the Applications folder). But, here is the rub. You may have trouble re-downloading Lion. I am assuming that you can re-download since Lion is apparently is not installed and you have paid. I am hoping like crazy that you don't have a problem with the re-download step.
Apparently, you have a bootable external drive or so. If so, then you might want to follow the path I used in installing Lion--eventually on your internal drive.
    01. Downloaded Lion toInternal/SnowLeopard drive stopping the installer before it installs (made copyof installer to be sure I have one before moving on)
    02. Backed up Snow Leopard by cloning internal drive to external drive partition
    03. Formatted external drive Lion setup partition as Mac OS X journaled using internal Snow Leopard installation (be sure the partition is GUID)
    04. Installed Office via disk on Lion partition and copied documents from internal to Lion Documents folder
    05. Imported Safari bookmarks on Lion partition from previously exported file
    06. Installed QT 7 and QT Pro License
    07. Updated iTunes and copied user iTunes folder to Music folder on Lion partition
    08. Imported Address Book on Lion using previously prepared archive file
    09. Installed various additional pieces of software using accumulated disks (e.g., Photoshop CS4), image files, downloads (e.g.,iLife11) and product keys
    10. Just started using Mail 5.0; it just works
    11. Installed Printer
    12. Installed Flash beta from Adobe site
    13. Copied iWeb domain file from Snow Leopard installation to appropriate place in Lion installation (instructions may be needed on this step)
    14. Tested Lion drive and did miscellaneous setup tasks
    15. Downloaded and Installed Lion version of SuperDuper on Lion and cloned Lion drive to my internal

  • Cannot redownload Moutain lion installer after a corruptd intaller failed to install.

    Hi All,
I'm trying to upgrade to Mountain lion from Lion (10.7.4)
Here is what I have done so far.
I downloaded Mountain Lion but the corrupted installer failed to install.
It suggested to delete the copy and go to puchases on App store and redownload it.
But the App store's "downloaded" button did not change to "install" after moving the installer app to trash.
So I emptied the trash and restarted my macbook and went to App store.
This time, it showed "Buy App" button instead of "Downloaded" so I clicked it and it said I purchased the OS and suggested to redownload after clicking "ok" to the  popup.
It started downloading but finished it in 2 seconds without actually downloading and installing and then the button goes to "installed" on purchases on App store.
What am I supposed to do? How do I redownload the OS and install it.
    Please help.
    Young

I talked to the technical support at Apple and he couldn't figure it out either.
I keep seeing downloading finishes in a second and the button changes to "downloaded".
I see OS X Mountain Lion icon at Lauchpad with progress bar showing full and just hanging there.
    Update
I'm noticing after some minutes I see it silently completes downloading and 4.31 GB installer is put into Applications folder. Then it starts installation but I get the following error msg.
"This copy of the Install OS X Mountain Lion.app application can't be verified. It may have been corrupted or tampered with during downloading."
I'm not so sure whether the downloaded installer is actually 4.31GB long file because downloading seems taking less than 10 minutes which I think is too short to download the whole thing even at my work with fast internet speed.
    Any new ideas?

  • Fresh Lion fails to install

I've just tried a Lion install on to a new disk after booting the installer from USB. The install process gets most of the way through then tries to download something from the net and fails. I've tried wired and wifi and confirmed from the network app and terminal that I've got a full connection.
Odd thing, the network app that comes with the installer shows full connection except the lookup tab, that fails. All the other tabs and terminal can do DNS resolution so DNS isn't broken.
Anyone else seen this? At the moment it is a show stopper as I can't get the install to run all the way through.

Apple not supports installing Lion from selfmade usb's. Because nobody knows what tool you used to create it, and if files are missing on the stick.
