Fail to restor

Hello, I'm a newbie here...
Maybe someone could help me out with my problem for the ipod shuffle. I tried to restor it to factory but getting error message.
I just download the new ipod software update 2006-01-10. Im able to bring up the software fine, but right when I connect the device it take a long time before the menu comes up to update/restore. After it comes up I get
1. Plug in an IPOD to update it.
I connect my shuffle.it will take about 5 min for the software to see the dev..
2. Once the software finds the shuffle here's what I get.
Name: N/A
Serial Number:xxxxxxxxxxx
Software Veron: 1.1.3 (up to date)
Capacity: N/A
The only option I have is to restore.
Once I click on restore, I get a menu asking me if I am sure I want to restore..
I click on restore...
It starts to restore, but then it stop less then half way.
I get this error message.
"Firmware update failure. Disk write error"
How can I fix this problem?
DEll   Windows XP

Thank you for the help. My computer has mult usb ports. I tried all of them. Same thing, I even went back to loading the software from the cd that came with the dev...
I also tried on my new laptop I got about 1 month ago. Still does not work. Tonight I'm heading out to the apple store that's right down the street from me. I will see if they could fix the problem. I will keep you guys/gals posted.

  • Firefox 12 failed to restore my previous session!

    Hi there!
Well, last night I shut down my computer from the Start menu in Vista. I believe I had closed Firefox manually before I proceeded with the shut down. I don't think it has anything to do with the way you exit Firefox, but I'm just saying it.
I usually have several tabs open in Firefox, this time I had about 50 of them and every time I close Firefox it prompts me if I want to save the tabs. I don't think this is a default setting, I think I set this up myself. So I just click the option which saves my tabs so that the next time I start Firefox I can continue where I left off.
I believe I clicked the save button last night as well. But today I started up Firefox and the tabs were gone.
I did follow the procedure for restoring the last session as described here:
    https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Firefox%20does%20not%20ask%20to%20save%20tabs%20and%20windows%20on%20exit?s=Firefox+12+failed+to+restore+previous+session%21&r=1&e=es&as=s
But the thing is I don't have the option to restore last session when I go to Firefox button and History.
Also, I have started and closed Firefox since that several times. So this restore option might only just restore the last tab I closed anyway. As described...
''If you close each window or tab, only the final window or tab that you closed will be available when you restart Firefox.''
Why did Firefox forget to restore my tabs?...
This happened to me once before but I don't remember how I restored the tabs.
And also, it happened once that Firefox failed to prompt me if I want to save my tabs, and instead prompted me with a whole different dialog, the one where it warns me that I'm about to close all open tabs and asks me to confirm.
There was no way around it so I intentionally ''crashed'' the computer, knowing that once I log on to Windows and start Firefox again it will restore my tabs automatically whether it wants to or not. And, of course, this proved to be true, all my tabs were back.
But did I really have to ''crash'' my comptuer for this? Maybe I could have crashed only the Firefox by terminating it's process... but it works either way. One time it asks, one time it doesn't ask to save tabs. Completely disregarding the settings! There is something seriously wrong here!
After that first incident I was again able to save my tabs on exit, it always asked me to save them from that point on, as I would expect it to. Until now...
Now it asks me if I ''want to'' save my tabs, and I say ''yes please'', just to find out the next morning it didn't restore them, as if they never were saved. Haha! LOL! Ridiculous! Haha, that Firefox 12! :) What a clown!
As mutch as this is a call for help in restoring those tabs, it is also a reminder to Firefox developers that something really stinks here! You need to work out the session save and restore mechanism in Firefox 12. Unluckily for me I had not installed the Session Manager extension. That's one tool that does better what Firefox should do by standard.

Yeah, if the tabs were not restored then unfortunately sessionstore.bak was overwritten. But you're taking it surprisingly well. :) Most people are pissed beyond belief, which is expected. :P
Also let me clear up the confusion between sessionstore.js & sessionstore.bak. Sessionstore.bak is the backup file that Firefox makes after every shutdown of Firefox. Sessionstore.js is the main file that stores all the data about tabs, app tabs and recently closed tabs & windows.
You can backup either one of these files but, like you did, it's best to check the modified timestamp on both files and most importantly their sizes. It will let you know how old that file is and the bigger the size of the file, the better. A 2kb file likely has 1 or 2 tabs, where a 500kb one has around 20 tabs or more.
But to keep it simple, just backup sessionstore.js.
And yes, great idea about Shadow Copy. I've used it on Windows 7 and it really is a life saver. I found it had around 20 or 30 backups for the places.sqlite which I was trying to recover. You could try to implement it on Vista with 3rd party software, I'd just read some reviews first.
Or you could install the [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/session-manager/ Session Manager addon] we both discussed earlier. Unless you think adding that add-on is overkill or you don't want to weigh down Firefox with another addon? But in this case, I think it does do what you want, which is backup your sessionstore.js everyday or every few days. I think the setting is customizable.
I'm praying for the day they create a "sessionstorebackups" folder like they have for the '''bookmarkbackups''' folder. That way we can have a better chance to recover the tabs.
'''Edit:''' You replied while I typed this. But great work! I didn't know Shadow Copy kept backups of files on Vista even though the service wasn't running. Anyway that's great news. And I see you'll be using Session Manager from now on. :D
And thanks for clearing up the part about Firefox prompting you to save your tabs at closing. I haven't seen Firefox do that in a while (the last version that showed that prompt was maybe 3.5?) so I was wondering what was going on there. :) Take care and have a good one!

  • PC Suite fails to restore calendar.

I originally noticed this problem when I recently backed up my phone, updated it's firmware and then restored the backup.
I have seen other users complaining about this within these forums and on other forums and complain that the problem occurs on various N-Series and E-Series phones although I can only document my personal scenario. Noone from nokia appears willing to acknowledge there is any problem.
Full description as applies to me:
This problem applies to PC Suite 7.0.8.2 and at least the 2 previous versions.
I am running Windows Vista SP1. Full updated.
My phone is an Nokia N95 firmware 20.0.015
    1) I backed up my phone using the latest version of PC Suite.
    2) I updated the phone firmware.
    3) I restored the backup and all appeared fine.
    4) A few days later my wifes birthday arrived without a reminder from my phone. - At this point I discovered that the calendar had not restored!!
    5) I panicked after discovering just in time that it was my wifes birthday and spent a small fortune on emergency measures to keep her from finding out I had forgotten.
I subsequently tried to restore only the calendar entries from that backup. It spent it's time restoring, it claimed success but FAILED to restore a single calendar entry!
I tried to restore the calendar entries from much earlier backups made from the N95 going all the way back to sep 2007. In all instances it spent it's time restoring, it claimed success but FAILED to restore a single calendar entry!
I downloaded and installed a 3rd party application (Noki Explorer v1.6) to check the integrity of my backups and ensure that the calendar data was intact. It was! All calendar data is cantained within the backup files its just PC Suite fails to restore the data.
**** As a basic test to ensure that it is not a format compatibility between firmwares I performed a basic test. I created multiple test entries within my calendar, backed up my phone, deleted all calendar entries and restored the backup. It still FAILED to restore a single entry! (The calendar data was present within the backup file just not restored to the phone) ****
My calendar has traveled with me over my last 5 nokia phones constantly being updated and added to. In all instances I have managed to transfer my data from one phone to the next. This is the main reason I have stuck with nokia over all these years. If I cant even maintain and restore a backup from the same phone with the same software how can i have any confidence in my ability to move to my next phone? In fact what is the point in me backing up my phone at all if the backup can't be restored?
As a final last ditch attempt to restore anything I could I tried an even older backup from my old 6600. The calendar entries from the 6600 backup file restored perfectly!! So I now have some of my anniversary entries back but none of my up-to-date calendar.
So the way it looks is that PC Suite can restore a backup from an old phone but cannot restore a backup you have made with your current phone.
Any solutions before I pick my next phone would be appreciated.

    Hi swisslorenz,
as far as I know, this forum is not actively followed by nokia support.
This is why I wrote Nokia through this form: http://www.nokia.co.uk/A4222232
today they asked for more details and we'll see what they will tell me.
The workaround I read on this forum is to buy Noki, export all calendar in outlook and sync the phone with outlook. Of course, I don't like the idea to buy something else for a problem with pc suite. But it's a question of how much you value your time and your calendar...
the other workaround I found is to do a restore using the "My Nokia" service: http://www.nokia.com/mynokia
It's free, the only thing is that you need to have done a backup BEFORE using that service, to be able to restore...
so if you are new to the service, it won't help you.
It allows you to do a backup over the air of contacts, notes and calendar. I put a weekly reminder, so anywhere I am I can do it and I never forget backup any more. Handy.
    hope this helps,

  • Time machine backup failed to restore

HHaving had major issues with Mail I decided to restore from a Time Machine backup. With hindsight I wish I hadn't! Having foolishly agreed to the 'this will erase everything' warning I waited 8 hours (twice) to get the message that my backup failed to restore. No more detail than that. Does anyone have any ideas / suggestions? I have a MBA with latest upgrade of Yosemite (last upgrade probably caused my Mail issue). Everything is backed up using Time Machine to a Netgear NAS. When going through the restore process I have no is

TThanks Eric. At present I can't connect the NAS directly. I dont seem to have a usb to usb cable. It is connecting via a network cable. My MBA can see the NAS and I've successfully entered my login details and chosen the backup I want to restore.
On C's recommendation I tried reinstalling OSX and planned to then try importing all my files on,y to find that there was not enough disk space. I've now erased everything as it occurred to me that starting with most of my 250G drive free might help. I'm having one more go at restoring directly from the TM backup as this would be my preferred solution (indeed what I had assumed Time Machine was meant for). On,y another 7 hours 26 minutes to wait. If that fails I will have another go at a fresh OS X install and reimport from TM (on the assumption that an empty hard disk will allow that this time).
ANd  do all this because MaIl stopped working with my old POP account and I screwed up the switch to IMAP (by dragging my old Pop account contents across to the new IMAP account is created - will need to do that more carefully if I ever get back to where I started!).

Hi my iphone 5 is on recovery mode and I connect it with the computer but it's failing to restore the device the message is showing iphone restore failed!!!!!

    Hi Bobi1346,
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities and for including the error number you are getting.
There's an article for troubleshooting that error.
    iOS: Restore errors 4005, 4013, and 4014
Try these steps to resolve the issue:
Install the latest version of iTunes.
    Restart your computer.
Make sure your computer is up to date. If an update requires a restart, check for updates again after you restart.
Learn more about updating OS X.
    Learn more about updating Windows.
    Restore using another USB cable.
Restore your device on another computer.
If you continue to see error 4005, 4013, or 4014 when you restore your device, contact Apple for support.
    Take care,
    Nubz

  • I was updating my ipad, and then it said "fail to Restore" and then it wont come up under devices. what do i do?

as i was updating my ipad 2, it told me that it failed to restore, and then it wint come up under devices on itunes, the ipad also wont work, what can i do ?

This was copied from the Apple support site concerning unresponsive iDevices.
If the above steps do not resolve the issue, or the if the screen remains black or shows a persistent Apple logo, try restoring with iTunes
Connect the device to your computer and open iTunes.
If the device appears in iTunes, select and click Restore on the Summary pane. Learn more about restoring iOS software.
If the device doesn't appear in iTunes, try to force the device into recovery mode.
More than likely, you will have to restore the device now. You may need to use recovery mode as mentioned in step 3.

  • Error when printing: Printer selection failed. Restoring the previous selection.

    Hi!
Sometimes when I'm printing in InDesign CS3 the default printer is PostScript and when trying to change it the error "Printer selection failed. Restoring the previous selection." appears.
It´s the same error as in this unsolved old thread:
Printing Error: Printer selection failed. Restoring the previous selection.
Does anyone have a solution to this?

What is the OS? CS3 was not tested on recent OS versions and may not be fully functional. You can export to PDF and print that from Acrobat or Reader.

  • Image Processor.jsx bug (CS3, 10.0.1): fail to restore history item sometimes

I have very limited history depth (5 items) to conserve my RAM.
When I run "Image Processor" script, which calls some complex Action, "Image Processor" fails to restore history item (because it was dropped already) in this lines (tere is same line for every save file type):
    app.activeDocument.activeHistoryState = historyState;
This line(s) throw exception (file was saved, really!), and file remains open and after processing 10-15 files computer starts to thrash.
I've surrounded all these lines with try { ... } catch(e) {} and it works for me.
IMHO, it here are two bad ideas in this script:
    (1) Consider every and any exception as error. In this case, history is not a thing I care about
    (2) Don't close files in case of error. It can fill up RAM & scratch disk very quickly.

    Update Server
    Try:
    - Powering off and then back on your router.
    - iTunes for Windows: iTunes cannot contact the iPhone, iPad, or iPod software update server
    - Change the DNS to either Google's or Open DNS servers
    Public DNS — Google Developers
    OpenDNS IP Addresses
    - For one user uninstalling/reinstalling iTunes resolved the problem
    - Try on another computer/network
    - Wait if it is an Apple problem

The phone was jailbroken. That's what that error indicates. You can't get help here. You can't get help from Apple.
    Try Google.

  • I can't turn on my Ipad after it failed to restore.

Yesterday I tried to update firmware on my Ipad from 4.3.5 to 5.1.1. After the download process was done itunes tried to syns with my Ipad, after a while it showed the message as it failed to restore my Ipad and my device list disappear from itunes. My Ipad screen appears as the black screen with an itunes icon and usb. Then I tried to plug it in on my PC but it doesn't show device list. • Factory restore error message - "Product Restore %s failed to restore your system"

While doing a factory restore I am getting the error message - "Product Restore %s failed to restore your system".
Not sure what it means ... I am on a Lenovo 3000 N100. I've been having not so much battery won't charge as battery won't stay charged problems.
When starting up with the battery in ... the battery seems to bedrawing so much from the adapter the N100 shuts down.
While shutdown the battery seems to draw from the cmos battery.
When I power up again the cmos battery is drained ... the bios clock has to be reset.
A few times like this and I took the battery out and just ran on the adapter.
Taking the battery out didn't stop the n100 from timing out(read turning off). What did stop it
is going into the memory panel when its off and power is diconnected and shorting the Cmos battery.
Then when powered up it goes straight into loading the recovery package and actually
gets to the point where it is ready to format the disk before it gives me the message - "Product Restore % failed to restore your system".
Last night I actually got it to factory restore ... but then like a complete idiot I put the battery
back in thinking the restoration would have resolved the charging problem ... it didn't.
I know ... I know ... I'm a couple of months too late for a new battery ... but if anybodies got any ideas
how to get around this ""Product Restore %s failed to restore your system"" so I can get back
    to windows I'd appreciate it.

I've had a similar problem when attempting a restore to factory settings on my Lenovo 3000 N200, running Windows XP.  I resolved it by leaving the battery plugged in, but by disconnecting the AC power adapter. Then when the restore was up and running I then plugged in the adapter so the laptop wouldn't run out of power before completing the restore.

  • (Running Windows 7 Home Premium) When Firefox 4.0 hangs (forcing a shutdown) or crashes (the screen has even gone to black) my windows fail to restore most of the time.

On the occasions when the windows fail to restore, I usually see a blank start page with something to the effect of "about:restore" or "about:restore session" in the URL line. I've tried pressing enter, but it didn't help. Other times, I've immediately tried going to the History menu, but the "Restore Previous Session" menu pick is faded out. I followed the help posted here to activate the restore windows feature, but the windows still fail to restore most of the time. I'm not a techie, so I'd really appreciate some easy to understand help.

The DMP file is inconclusive. You could run driver verifier to find the underlying issue but WPR is often easier.
In order to diagnose your problem you will need to download and install the below
Install the WPT (windows Performance Toolkit)
    http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=30652
Help with installation (if needed) is here
When you have, open an elevated command prompt and type the following
WPRUI.exe (which is the windows performance recorder) and check off the boxes for the following:
First level triage, CPU usage, Disk IO.
If you problem is not CPU or HD then check off the relevant box/s as well (for example networking or registry)  Please configure your as per the below snip
    Click Start
It will reboot 3 t imes and record the data to a file and tell you its name and location.
Zip the file and upload to us on Onedrive (or any file sharing service) and give us a link to it in your next post.
These crashes were related to memory corruption (probably caused by a driver).
Please run these tests to verify your memory and find which driver is causing the problem.
If you are overclocking (pushing the components beyond their design) you should revert to default at least until the crashing is solved. If you don't
know what it is you probably are not overclocking.
Since it is more likely to be a driver please run verifier first.
1-Driver verifier (for complete directions see our wiki here)
If verifier does not find the issue we can move on to this.
2-Memtest. (You can read more about running memtest here)

  • IPad Fails to Restore after recent update through iTunes
