Fail to retrieve IP address: Want to print wirelessly to HP C4385 from iMAC

I've gone through so many threads that I'm losing track. Where do I start?
I have my PC downstairs with an HPC4385 printer connected via USB. I have my Intel iMAC upstairs and it is connected wirelessly via my Airport Express (also located downstairs - no issues connecting to the web). I want to print to the C4385 wirelessly from my iMAC (as it has the capability... supposedly), but I can't get past the configuration stage. I can see my network, successfully enter my network password, but then get a "Failed to retrieve IP address" on all counts.
FYI: I don't have setup button to print a report showing my printer's IP address either. I actually don't know if that matters, or not.
Has anyone successfully bypassed this issue to print wirelessly?
Please help.

Wish I could be helpful, but I'll "second," this request for information. I'm trying to do the exact same thing with the exact same printer, and I'm getting the exact same problem.

    I have airport turned on.  My printer software is loaded on my iMac.  Used to print via networking but want to print wirelessly now.  Both my iMac and my printer are connected wirelessly to my Bell 2WIRE Gateway interent modem.  Internet works fine.  Why can't I print?  Do I need to purchase Time Capsule or the Airport box to make this happen?  Helpless in Stonebridge

  • Cannot connect to server with ttisqlcs, Failed to retrieve IP address of the system

    Please help me, I installed timesten server and client on different machines in LAN, but with the same user and group - ttadmin:ttgroup
    When I tried to connect to server with ttisqlcs -connStr "DSN=sampleCS"
    The output gave me error messages as below
    connect "DSN=sampleCS";
    S1000: Failed to retrieve IP address of the system. System error: -2
    The command failed.
    Done.
    The related part in sys.ttconnect.ini is set as below
    [192.168.0.206]
    Description=TimesTen Server
    Network_Address=192.168.0.206
    TCP_PORT=53397
    And the sys.odbc.ini

    [sampleCS]
    TTC_SERVER=192.168.0.206
    TTC_SERVER_DSN=nredb_ds
    What does it mean by "retrieve IP" ?
    Does it try to resolve IP by the hostname even when I already gave it the ip address?
    By the way I can ping 192.168.0.206 and telnet at port 53397 with no problem.
    Please help me, thanks~

    Try changing your entries as follows and see if it fixes it:

  • Want to print wirelessly from macbook pro to wired PC and printer

    Want to print wirelessly from macbook pro to wired PC and printer using wireless router.
    I am having trouble setting this up? help? suggestions?

    > Printer is showing its location as a direct connection via USB
    But it's on the PC right ? So it's a shared network printer with a Spooler (this is how it should be configured using Prnter Setup Utility ...)
    > If I click to run dic utility there are no clickable options... only lists calculate image checksum.
    Once Disc Utility is launched, select your local hard drive then the [Repair Permissions] button bottom left will light up.

    Need help printing to HP5610 printer on PC w/XP. Print queue on PC shows document queued but it never prints. Have installed printer drectly on iMac and it works great and can install correct driver for HP5610. When printer is connected to PC it never prints and can not find correct print driver.

    You may need to use a third-party driver such as the HPIJS drivers or the Gimp-Print drivers, but this is not the case with all printers.

  • Windows XP failing to acquire network address whether wired or wireless

    Hi guys,
    I initially asked this question elsewhere because it was happening in OSX as well, though now that the OSX side of things has been fixed it is purely a Windows XP problem, and is a different problem to the one in Mac OSX.
    The problem seems simple enough, in that Windows XP just refuses to acquire a network address when connecting to the internet whether wired or wirelessly. I spent the best part of 7 hours on this on Monday, and after trawling through countless web pages I seemed to establish that there was an error with the AFD Driver (which, as I understand, is one of three required for the DHCP Client service to run). I was on the verge of probably doing something monumentally stupid and trying to repair/replace that driver when in a moment of genius (which should have arrived significantly sooner in the day) I asked my fiancee when the last time was that she could remember the internet working properly. She said it was the day before just after she agreed to install SP3, but the installation failed. So I used System Restore and rolled the system back to before that point, et voila. Everything was fine.
    Not appreciating the path taken to fix her iMac, my fiancee then tried to install SP3 again and the same problem reoccurred. Another System Restore fixed it. The problem now is that on startup Windows XP seems to revert back to the same state, and will refuse to acquire an IP address. A System Restore back to the same time will fix it. However, whilst this takes little longer than an actual startup, I was wondering whether or not anybody had any bright ideas for a permanent fix to this problem.
    All ideas, solutions and pearls of wisdom welcomes with open arms.

    Try using a system that is able to connect to the internet in Windows. Then go to http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=2FCDE6CE-B5FB-4488-8 C50-FE22559D164E and then download SP3 to the hard drive of that system. Then using the CD/DVD burning of your choice that you have for Windows burn the disc image file to CD/DVD and then insert it to the system that has the issue and upgrade it to SP3 that way.
    I used to use Windows update to get service pack, but one time it did not download and install correctly on an HP system. Since then I have went to Microsoft and downloaded the Service Pack and when it said that it installed successfully I deleted the file I downloaded. I never had issues when I get them and install them that way. The only Service Pack I had issues with was Service Pack 1 for Windows 7. I downloaded it from Microsoft to the hard drive and after it said it was installed successfully I deleted the file. I used it for a while then I shut the system completely down. Then when I booted into Windows I went to put in my password and nothing happened. I tried moving the mouse nothing happened. Then I did a hard reset, booted into Mac OS X, used Boot Cap Assistant, removed the partition, downgraded to Windows XP 32-bit and now miss all the features that come with 64-bit Operating Systems. I am now able to use 2.5GB of RAM out of the 8GB that is in my system. I thought with Windows 32-bit that 4GB what the most that could be used.

    If you choose print on the browser it will go to this dialog box where you click print and after clicking the browser will crash and another box will appear stating that it crash and wants to know if you would like to submit a report.

    Does the issue still occur if you start Firefox in Safe Mode? http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode

  • I have an iphone and want to print emails received whilst I'm away from the home office. How??

    I select print when I'm trying to forward an email to my printer (ePrint) and the iphone doesn't find the source(my printer)

    Hey TrevorH!
    It sounds like you are trying to use AirPrint from your remote location. AirPrint will only work on a local network. If you want to print an email using ePrint from a remote location, what you would want to do is forward the email. In the To field, enter your printer's ePrint email address and the email should print.
    Hope this helps!
    If I have solved your issue, please feel free to provide kudos and make sure you mark this thread as solution provided!

  • Time Capsule needs to be reset every time I print wirelessly or watch Apple TV

    Hello all!
    My Time Capsule keeps dropping my wireless printer and Apple TV. Every time I want to stream a movie to my Apple TV it needs to be reset, and everytime I want to print wirelessly it needs to be reset. However, my internet connection remains constant and never has any interuptions.
    Please help, it's getting really annoying to run upstairs to reset the time capsule every time I wanna watch a movie.
    Thanks

    It is reported here all the time that the TC needs daily reboots.. you are highly fortunate that it is only weekly..
    The fact is the old TC using 7.5 firmware was probably hugely more reliable than the current one which is not able to be flashed back beyond 7.6. There is a bug.. and as yet no Apple confession of issues.
    But most people can get away without a reboot.. you just need to disconnect all users.. which was an option in the v5 utility.. now left out of v6.
    Strongly recommend you install v5 utility.
    (Or get electrical timer to restart the TC on a nightly basis).
    How to load 5.6 into ML.
    1. Download 5.6 for Lion.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1482
    Click to open the dmg but do not attempt to install the pkg.. it won't work anyway.
    2. Download and install unpkg.
    http://www.timdoug.com/unpkg/
    Run unpkg on the desktop.. it is very simple.. drag the AirPortUtility56.pkg file over to unpkg.. and it will create a new directory of the same name on the desktop.. drill down.. applications utilities .. there lo and behold is Airport utility 5.6 .. drag it to your main utilities directory or just run it from current location.
    You cannot uninstall 6.1 so don't try.. and you cannot or should not run them both at the same time.. so just ignore the toyland version.. the plastic hammer.. and start using 5.6.. a real tool.
    For screen shots see this post.
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4668746?tstart=0
    Most common message in history of the TC.. something has failed to unmount.. Lion and esp. Mountain Lion are affected.
    Simple way.. reboot the TC to lose the connections..
    Might take a network reboot.
    But from 5.6 utility you can disconnnect all users.
