Fail when updating iPhone 4 Model error to contact servers or servers unavailable

So, the thing is, my iphone 4 GSM model is on 5.1.1 version, and i wanted to updated officialy on the itunes, i just plug it with the computer then it reads normally, but when i click to update to latest version he starts to extract the software from apple but then it fails, saying that there was an error contacting and maybe the server can be temporarily unavailable, but this was for the whole day! i tried a thousand times.. hope someone helps me ! THanks!

Error 1602 when updating Iphone 4 from 4.3 to 5 and after that it goes into "recovery mode" but Its not recognized by Itunes, I can only exit it with Tinyumrella and nothing else.

It seems that the itunes program has some interfefence when contacting the apple server.
i had this problem gave me error message 3200, i turned off the anti virus after restarting the computer(windows vista) and restarting the phone.
Turned off the sidebar, and closed any programs in the notifications section such as nokia ovi etc which load up when the computer starts also skype.
ha presto it began the process of transfering the file to the iphone4 and has now fully updated

Back Ups are important to make, and doing so is good advice. Update of iPhone does not delete any of your data, or content. Restore of iPhone however, erases everything, then you can allow iTunes or iCloud to rebuild your iPhone from a back up. Backing up is smart because if the Update stalls or does not work, the solution is a Restore, which again erases the iPhone, so you need to have a back up.

When I was updating my child's ipod touch with itunes....it put the ipod in recovery mode and said I would need to restore and then update....which was my only option to choose, so when I chose restore & update....after going thru it seemed the process, then a window came up that stated the ipod couldn't be restored at this time because the ipod software update server could not be contacted or is temporarily unavailable and to try again. After trying this several times unsuccessfuly and going thru the steps on the help section, the ipod is still not able to restore & update, thus we can't access anything on our very new ipod touch and I am very frustrated, can't afford any Apple support tech time. 99.9% of the time, the cause of this issue is the fact the phone was jailbroken/hacked to unlock it for use on networks other than the network the phone was originally locked to. Apple maintains a database of officially unlocked iPhones, and when Apple's servers detect phones such as yours, activation stops & you get the message you got.
So, you need to get a sim card from the carrier the phone was originally locked to, or get it officially unlocked, if you want to activate it. Because it appears that it was not officially unlocked.
Apple has started to get "tough" with hacked iPhones, & simply won't permit their activation.

Windows user? Maybe you should check your HOSTS file to make sure nothing is stopping you from contacting Apple's servers - though if you're not looking to update you might still be out of luck. Also, maybe disable IP blacklist apps like PeerBlock just in case they're interfering with your connection to Apple.
