Failed backup error due to I photo file (s)

Aloha. I'm trying to backup Ilife folder. I'm having problems with backing a thumbs 32 &64 segment.data files. When I delete the files and empty the trash, i can then backup successfully. When I open up I photo, it builds the thumbnails again. I then have the same error when I try to use backup.
This is the error:
"Unable to copy /Users/perkman/Pictures/iPhoto Library/Thumb32Segment.data to /Volumes/iLife/Users/perkman/Pictures/iPhoto Library/Thumb32Segment.data: Mac OS error -36"
Does anyone have any ideas what I can do?
Thank you

Perkman:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. That error code is an I/O error. Can you copy those files by them selves to the destination? If not just backup the library without them as they will be recreated the next time that library folder is used.
Do you Twango?

  • Backup error due to System Writer missing (enumeration of system32 printer dlls takes too long)

    Hi,
On a Windows 2008 R2 we get a Windows Backup error while backupping System State (event id: 5, error code: '2155347997').
We tried *ALL* solutions found on Internet regarding the same issue (and we also applied the suggested hotfix KB2807849) but without success. So we DIGGED INTO VSS to see what is happening.
***1) First we saw that an USB printer had a problem and this resulted in
hundreds of entries in the following registry keys:
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\StillImage\DeviceNameStore\Canon MF6500 Series #100010]
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\StillImage\DeviceNameStore\Canon MF6500 Series #100011]
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\StillImage\DeviceNameStore\Canon MF6500 Series #100012]
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\StillImage\DeviceNameStore\{6BDD1FC6-810F-11D0-BEC7-08002BE2092F}\79590]
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\StillImage\DeviceNameStore\{6BDD1FC6-810F-11D0-BEC7-08002BE2092F}\79591]
***2) We completely removed ALL drivers/devices related to that printer (now the DeviceNameStore is empty and
pnputil -e returns no driver related to the printer)
***3) Using process monitor we saw that during vssadmin list writers the system is searching for the DLLs related to that printer AND SEEMS CAUGHT IN AN ENDLESS LOOP: this is an excerpt of the scan:

.... THE SAME FILES ARE REPEATED HUNDREDS OF TIMES!!!! ...
It seems that somewhere there is a catalog of system files which still contains the references to the (same) files used by the hundreds of devices that WERE present in the DeviceNameStore (see point ***1 above, but now it is empty),  and the System
Writer continues to search/enumerate those files and fails.
How can I fix it ? Is there a way to "reset" the System Writer and "rebuild" (???) the correct files that it should backup? (in order to complete a successfull system state backup)
    Can you help me?
    Thank you in advance.
    EDIT: some additional (useful?) information:
    * we also ran chkdsk /f C:
    * sfc /scannow completes without errors
    * in the vssadmin list writers the "system writer" is missing (but - as said above - when we run it the associated process repeatedly search printer dll files in the System32 directory)
    * perhaps those file are contained is some filemaps catalog ?!? Is there a way to "reset" them?!?
    ***EDIT 2***:
I found that the reference to those missing DLLs are in ***C:\Windows\inf\setupapi.ev3*** but if I move the file away the System Writer continues not being listed in vssadmin list writer (though the vssadmin command complete very fast).

    Hi,
Please check if there are number of files in Temporary ASP.NET folders under "C:\Windows\Microsoft.Net\Framework". If so, clear these files then restart the server to check the results.
In additional, you could try the steps below to troubleshoot the issue:
    1. Give NETWORK SERVICE Read permissions on COM+ Event System.
    a. Open the registry editor and navigate to HKLM\CurrentControlSet\Services\EventSystem.
    b. Right click on the EventSystem and then select ‘Permissions’
    c. Click on ‘ADD’ button and then type in ‘NETWORK SERVICE’ and give it READ permission.
    d. Reboot the machine and then run the 'VSS admin list writers' to check if it shows up the 'system writer'.
    2. If the step 1 doesn't work then move the contents of C:\Windows\winsxs\FileMaps to an alternate location. Then run the command 'VSS admin list writers' to check if it shows up the 'system writer'.  Is so, some of those files maybe corrupted and we
need to identify them and replace the files from a healthy machine.

    Hi,
Thanks for ur reply. But I have already gone through the steps. I can see the picture from R3 and store it there. But the problem is in ESS (portal). I can't store it from ESS as the address it going to store is <R3 hostname>:8000/fp/bc/contentserver........The actual should be <R3 hostname>:8001/fp/bc/contentserver........
Plz suggest me where from it take the value 8001 in portal for employee pic. For all other T-iview  working fine. Telnet to 8000 is not possible, but 8001 is ok.

  • Error writing metadata to photo files

I am using CS6 and have moved to a new computer with a clean install of CS6 under Windows 8.1.  In the past I had no problem using Bridge to append my personal metadata file to photos (RAW files, NEF).  With the new installation I am getting the repeated message " Error writing data to...."  even after trying all the " fixes"  suggested by the help files.
Can anyone help me to resolve this issue?
    Thanks.

I found an answer, somewhat different.  I did more search and found that you need to be administrator and for Adobe to see you as administrator, for many functions to work, such as writing metadata to files or putting stars on photos to rank them.  I could do neither.
THEN, I tried opening Bridge by right clicking on the icon, and opening the file as administrator (a choice).  Everything worked.  So, why was Adobe not seeing me as administrator.  My user account was the only account on the computer and has administrator privileges.
I started doing searches on that, and stumbled, yes stumbled, on what I think is a solution to that situation.
I set up my account so that I needed a password to log in.  Once I did that, Bridge worked fine.  But, I still did not want that additional startup step.  You can then back to change password and leave the password entries blank.  Then, the computer starts up with blank passwords, zips past the welcome screen directly to the desktop, and Windows now sees me as the administrator, and so does Adobe.
Keep you fingers crossed folks, this seems to be working.

  • Does time capsule backup all the music and photo files?

I do not have any files excluded for backup with my time capsule.  So, are all my music and photos stored on my MacBook Pro and iMac backed up each time?
Does it also back up the Photostream in iPhoto?
I am a little confused about all this and do not want to lose any of these files if my MBP hard drive crashes.

Time Machine will back up the iTunes Media Folder, which stores all of your music and video.....and it will also back up the iPhoto Library used with iPhoto.
Time Machine does not backup the entire libraries each time that it runs. Time Machine backs up the entire contents of your Mac on the first "master" backup. Once that is done, Time Machine only backs up the changes that have occurred on your Mac since the last backup.
So, if you have made any changes to the iTunes Media Folder or iPhoto Library since the last backup, Time Machine will pick up the change and back that up on the next pass when Time Machine runs.
Best to ask your question about Photostream in the iPhoto support area. My understanding is that images are normally stored in iCloud, but if you have downloaded images permanently to your Mac, they are stored in the iPhoto Library, which will be backed up.

  • After Effects Fails to render due to a big file size?

I recorded some video clips in a x264 codec (AVI) and well since i cant import them into AAE (it wont recognize them) i just did some editng wit sony vegas and  rendered the full video in 1080p uncompressed and it was about 20 GB's total. i added it into AAE to add some color corrections and RAM preview worked normally but when i tried to render it out in blu ray format it would fail within 4 seconds of rendering. i tried other formats and it wouldnt work i even tried to take off the color correction thinking that was it but still failed. is after effects not stable with such heavy file sizes?
or could it be my ram isnt engough (3 gb's) im upgrading to more soon though.
any help would be apreciated so i know what to do in the future thanks a lot.

The total file size is not really relvant.
The important part is the per frame memory usage.
Which OS are you using? RAM starvation can be worse in Win XP 32, since the total available RAM for all applications combined is 2.7 GB.
Try this - render the Comp to a lossless format (such as Quicktime Animation, huge file but you can delete it afterwards), and then close AE and launch Adobe Media Encoder in standalone mode and try to encode using your Blu-Ray preset from AME.

    Hi jeanmichel2,
Requesting you to please provide following info:
    - OS configuration you are using?
    - Please elaborate your scenario. I mean what are the exact steps you are doing? Also is this catalog specific (try creating a new catalog, repeat your steps and see if you face this issue).
    - I am assuming you are using Adobe Photodownloader (APD) for import (Import->From Camera or card reader). Am I correct here?
    - For Importing it seems that you are using a card reader. Is this issue reproducible with other devices also (like camera, iDevices, Android devices or pen-drives)?

  • Recovering Lost iPhone Data After Failed Backup

So my mother is somewhat technically challenged and has never backed up her iphone before.. Basically I told her to do so and get the newest software update but I think an error occurred during the backup procedure and she continued with the update/restore anyways. So she lost all of her data and is very sad . Is there any possible way to find the data either on the restored empty phone, or on the computer from the failed backup (maybe it made a corrupted file that we can fix?)
    Please help!
    Thanks!

No, sorry.  Without a backup it is gone.  Did you backup to iCloud by chance?

  • Windows 8 backup (Win7 File Recovery system image) creation to NAS device fails with error 0x807800C5

    Hi,
I have a ZyXEL NSA310 NAS device on my network that I use for backups (as well as a media server). I have been very happy with it as, amongst other things, it has a gigabit Ethernet connection. I recently upgraded my home laptop from Win7 Pro to Win8
Pro. Under Win7 the NAS device worked perfectly as the backup target. I could back up file sets and - most importantly to me - create a system image on the device should I need to restore the system in the event of a full disk failure.
When I upgraded to Win8 it kept the Win7 settings and it looked like it was just going to work, then as it came to create the system image it failed with error code 0x807800C5 and message "The version does not support this version of the file format".
I have searched the internet and seen that others have had similar issues on Win7 and Win8 with NAS devices where they have had to hack the device to get it working - though it isn't clear that this has been successful for everyone. This isn't an option
for me as the NSA310 is a closed device and in any event I don't see why I should have to hack the device when clearly this is a Win8 issue (since Win7 worked perfectly).
Does anyone have any ideas how to fix this issue so that I can create the full backups I require?
    Thanks,
    Phil

Thanks willis! I will look into the iSCSI route. A quick Google search and I can see some mention of the NSA310 and iSCSI so maybe it does support it.
One question: Have you ever attempted to restore a system image from a NAS iSCSI device with a Win8 Restore Disk? Is it easy? I just want to be sure that it is possible to do so in case the worst happens and I need to restore the entire image onto a
    new disk.
Hopefully Microsoft will fix the issue with the standard NAS setup with an update in the future, but I don't want to wait for it.
    Thanks again,
    Phil
Hi Phil,  No I have not had to do this yet, but I see no reason why it shouldn't work as the iSCSI disk looks just like a regular hard disk to the OS. I agree that Microsoft should fix the direct NAS support as the iSCSI approach does have the downside
of dedicating a fixed chunk of your NAS drive to the iSCSI disk that you have to choose when you create the disk whereas the direct NAS just uses the actual space currently needed by the backup. Also I had some trouble getting authentication (access rights)
to work so I left the iSCSI portal as open access - which is OK for a home solution but not a good idea in general. I will revisit this for my own setup and see if I can get it working but just wanted to mention it in case you have the same issue. It manifests
itself as not being able to connect to the iSCSI portal due to failed authentication when running iSCSI initiator setup.

Regardless if this is a general problem or not, does anyone know of any documentation/release notes for common/generic TM error codes? That would be helpful.
Yeah, many of us would love it! But no such thing exists, at least not that us mere mortals can find.
There might be another variable that I don't understand right now but at least it is consistent.
Could it be something funky in the name of one of the folders? Or could the folder object itself be corrupt? Or have some odd extended attribute?
All I can suggest is calling AppleCare, and/or reporting it as a bug:

This requires a membership in the +Apple Developer Connection,+ but you can get one for free.
    Register here: http://developer.apple.com/programs/start/register/create.php
Once you receive the confirmation, go to: https://bugreport.apple.com and login.
Click +New Problem+ at the top.
Click Help at the top, and/or any of the items underlined in blue for more information.
Provide as much specific detail as possible, and attach a log, screenshot, etc., as appropriate in the lower section.
When done, click Submit at the bottom.

  • MAXDB backup failed with error: end of file reached -917

Hi I am performing a complete data backup for a database which is about 230 GB.
Previously it had run successfully for many days, but since yesterday, I began to receive such error:
    Error: end of file reached(-917)
The backup stopped itself after running for 1 hour, and from backup history I just saw above error message.
I also had a look at the logs, and found below, could someone help me look into this issue?
Appreciate your kind help in advance!

    Hello Shaun,
Thank you so much for your reply. But I've checked that my F drive still have more than 480GB free space, so the space should not be the problem.
And I've just run the backup once again, this time it keeps running for 2 hours, and then failed again with the same error.
Is there other possible reasons of this error?
    Thanks a lot,
    Vivian
