Failed Camera Raw Plug-In Install

Hello,
I was running CS3 off my old MacBook Pro with no problems for years.  Just got an iMac and installed the program, Updater wants to install Camera Raw 4.6 but fails about halfway through with no explanation.  I tried following the manual workaround but the directory path the instructions say should be there is not there - there is no Plug-Ins folder as it stands.
My camera is covered by the 4.3.1 update, but I have the same directory problem there with the manual install.  If I try to open the file directly Photoshop does not recognize the format.
Is there something with the new Mac OS that prevents Camera Raw 4.6 from working?  I'm lost.
Old computer: MacBook Pro running OS X 10.5.8
New computer: iMac running OS X 10.6.8
Camera: Nikon D300
Any help would be much appreciated.

I think you've hit on something. I just checked permissions and although I'm logged in properly and the permissions window shows that my sign-in name can read & write, it also says that I can read only. We had a power outage the other night and today's the first time I've used LR since then. I store photos on an external drive and I suspect the permissions got screwed up because of the outage.
If I can gain access by fixing the permissions I'll let you know and mark your answer as "correct".
Thanking you with fingers crossed.

  • Problems with layers after Camera RAW plug in installed

    Hello all,
I am rather new to Photoshop, so please excuse what maybe an easy question, I have made a few images into black and white and added color to them in select parts.  Not to long ago I downloaded the new Camera RAW plug in to work on NEF pics.  Now I can not get the layers to work.  For some reason it is not allowing me to remove the black and white layer and bring out the color.  This is true in RAW-I get an Alpha Channel error if working in RAW or the brush will not work in the BW image saying it is not allowed on a layer?
What am I missing?  I am thinking there is something really basic that I can not figure out.  Any help is appreciated.
    Mike

The Camera Raw plug-in is part of the original default Photoshop installation.  If you downloaded a newer version, it should have replaced the original one.  Where did you install it?
Layered files have absolutely nothing to do with Camera Raw.
However, you have not given us details and your description of your problem is far from clear.  Please explain.

  • Camera Raw plug-in.  How can I download and Install?

For some reason, I don't have the Camera Raw plug-in installed with my Photoshop Elements 11.0 software on my PC.  How can I go about downloading and installing the Camera Raw plug-in?

    Barbara,
Thanks for replying to my question.  First of all, yes I'm sure I don't have
it, or if I do, I'm unable to access it.  When I go to File>Open As and
click on the down arrow where you go to make your selection for Camera Raw,
it does not appear as one of my options.  All the other options are there,
but not Camera Raw.  I went back into Elements 8, 9 and 10, which I also
still have installed, and it does show up there, but not in 11.  I did go
into Help>Updates a couple of weeks ago and it said all my updates were
current, so that didn't help.  In fact, since then I've installed the trial
version of PSE 12.0 and it shows up there with no problem.  My camera is a
Panasonic Linux and every version of PSE, with the exception of 11.0, has no
problem handling my RAW photos, so that is not the answer.  After I got your
e-mail today I went back into Help>Updates again for my PSE 11.0
installation and lo and behold it came up with an option to install Camera
Raw version 8.2, which I did, thinking that might just solve my problem.
The installation seemed to download without a hitch, so I think it's lurking
in my system somewhere.  The problem I'm having now is figuring out how to
get it into my 11.0 version so that it shows up as an option that I can
click on when I do the Open As command, since it's still not showing up
there.  Any additional help you can provide me with would be greatly
appreciated.  The reason I so desperately need it in my 11.0 version is
because I'm teaching a SeniorNet PSE 11.0 class and without Camera Raw
installed on my home computer, I'm kinda lost.  I've been using 12.0 for the
time being, but my trial period for that is due to run out soon and I hadn't
really planned on buying the 12.0 version this time around. Thanks again for
    your help.

  • I'm trying to install the Camera Raw plug-in into Photoshop CS5 but it keeps failing

Hi - I'm trying to install Camera Raw plug-in into Photoshop CS5 but it keeps failing - I don't keep any reasons at all. The product is registered - please help!

Which version of Camera Raw? Which camera?
Familiarize yourself with these two tables
Camera Raw plug-in | Supported cameras
    Camera Raw-compatible Adobe applications
They tell you which version of Camera Raw is required to support your camera. The also tell you which version of Camera Raw is compatible with your CS5 (up to version 6.7 only).
It may be that the version of Camera Raw you need is not compatible with CS5.

  • What version of LR supports Lumix DMC LX7 RAW files? do I need to install Camera RAW plug-in?

What version of LR supports Lumix DMC LX7 RAW files? do I need to install Camera RAW plug-in?

The Camera Raw plugin is for Photoshop and Photoshop Elements.
The functionality provided by Camera Raw is already built in to Lightroom.
The Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX7 was first supported in Lightroom 4.2 so Lightroom 5 will be fine.

  • Installer, application manager and camera raw plug in issues

    Hi - I need help.
I'm running on Windows 7. I have just upgraded Photoshop to CS5.5 from CS4 (on my laptop not a creative cloud version). I have since uninstalled Photoshop CS4. I was trying to install the camera raw plug in 6.7.1 but it would not install and I got a message saying that the application manager was damaged and to download it again. I have downloaded the application manager file but cannot install it. I am getting the "installer failed to initilize" message. I've read through the forums on this and cannot find a solution.
I have extracted the file so I am not trying to open a zip file. I have downloaded a second time to a different location and tried installing again while logged into creative cloud but got the same message. I saw the comment about deleting the Adobe/OOBE folder and trying again but was wary about doing this as I don't know what this folder is. Can someone tell me what this is and why I would delete it?
I don't think I had this issue before I uninstalled CS4. I think I had already downloaded a camera raw plug in for that version. So I am wondering if deleting CS4 caused the issue.
I then downloaded CS6 cloud version thinking that perhaps I would get application manager installed correctly within that. I have now been able to install the camera raw plug in and this is now working in CS5.5 but strangely still cannot run the setup.exe for the application manager (So perhaps it is just a problem with Installer?).
Can someone tell me if application manager is just relevant for cloud based products or is it required for desktop versions as well? Could creative cloud be interferring with my desktop version? Where can I find the application manager files? If I uninstall CS6 will I have the same problem with application manager not working in future? I do not really want to use a cloud based version (CS6) and don't want to keep unnecessary programs on my laptop.I signed up to Creative Cloud when both desktop and cloud versions were supported and may not continue when my subscription expires.
To fix this problem without CS6 do I need to reinstall CS5.5? (To do this I will have to reinstall CS4 as it was an upgrade version). Would just reinstalling CS4 fix the problem? Can I just reinstall the application manager part of either of these or is there a simpler solution?
Thanks in advance as I am not super tecchie and am running out of ideas.

    Hi
I have Creative Suite 5.5 Master Collection but have only installed Photoshop and Bridge ( this includes files associated with that install). Since installing that I have also installed Photoshop 6 (with Bridge etc).
The issue I had in Photoshop 5.5 was I was unable to read files from Canon EOS 5D Mark 2. I was trying to install the camera raw plug in 6.7.1 to fix this. I got a message saying that the application manager was damaged and to download it again. I downloaded the application manager file (adobe application manager 8) but couldn't install it. I got an "installer failed to initilize" message.
So I downloaded CS6 to see if that would fix the application manager issue. I have now been able to install the camera raw plug 6.7.1  and this is now working in CS5.5. So the initial problem is fixed for now but what I want to know is -
    - Is the Application Manager associated with the version or does it stand alone as a separate file?
    - If I now uninstall Photoshop 6 will the Application Manager uninstall also, or will it continue to work in 5.5?
    - What is the best way to uninstall version 6 - should I do this through Application Manager not Windows Control Panel? I cannot see where to do this.
The Adobe site says to start AAM by :
Choose Help > Updates in a Creative Suite 5 product.
    Double-click PDApp.exe in the following locations:  Windows 64 bit: \Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\OOBE\PDApp\core\
If I chose Help in Photoshop 5.5 - the update option is greyed out and not available.
If I follow the second option I get the Creative Cloud Application Manager (version 9) offering me updates for version Photoshop 6 only.
How can I find out if I have a working Application manager for 5.5?
What is the best way to uninstall version 6?
You are right I have found folders / files which need to be cleaned up from CS4 eg: plug ins and a lot of empty folders. What is the best way to clean up these - can I just delete them in Windows Explorer?
Sorry this is long - I am learning as I go

  • Camera Raw Plug in 6.5 for PS5

I am running OS 10 version 10.9.1 on my Mac. I have CS5 loaded with camera Raw 6.5 plug in (the most recent version).
I bought a new Nikon model D610 and I am trying to transfer files using my PS dowloader.
I just downloaded Camera Raw 6.5 the latest and greates version for PSCS5. Using the new Plug in I try dowloading a actual camera file. It dowloads to my computer but it fails to convert to a DNG file. It give me the following error message "Files succesfully copied but DNG conversion failed".
When I try and open the file just dowloaded I get this error. "PS camera raw does not reconize the format you may need to update your version of camera raw plug in".
When I try and open the dowloaded file with my PS I get the error message " Could not comple your request becaue the file appers to be from a camera model which is not supported by the installed version of Camera Raw".
Now this is understandble, however, my model D610 is listed on the list of approved file formats for version Camera Raw 6.5.
    Can someone please help.

    Oscar72 wrote:

No, it isn't. The D610 is a new model, first supported in ACR 8.3 (which is the current version for Photoshop CC / CS6).
Also 6.5 isn't the latest for CS5, it went up to 6.7.
You need the standalone DNG converter, version 8.3 for D610 support. The resulting DNGs can be opened in ACR 6.x.

photoshop also states : Could not complete your request because the file appears to be from a camera model which is not supported by the installed version of Camera Raw.
Please visit the Camera Raw help documentation for additional information.
So i went to adobe to download the plugin but it doesn't work.

That may be the problem yes it offers a few raw formats ill list them :
    raw only
    raw and L
    S raw and M
i am using jpeg mode and raw mode so the files are Cr2 would that be my problem does it have to be purely raw files only?

I am trying to open CR2 files from a Cannon EOS 1DX camera in Photoshop CS6 and I have already updated the Camera Raw Plug in but Photoshop is still giving me the cannot open files dialog box? Help?

Canon 1DX support was added to ACR in version 6.7, 7.1.  An updated CS6 should be at level ACR 8.6.  If your ACR is not at level 8.6 try using CS6 menu Help>Updates.  If that does not install ACR 8.6 try downloading the ACR and DNG 8.6 converter and see if ACR 8.6 will install into your CS6.

You need to download and install Camera Raw 6.7.1 for CS5. Once you have downloaded it, you need to install it while CS5 is closed.
Adobe - Adobe Camera Raw and DNG Converter : For Windows : Camera Raw 6.7.1 Update
Adobe - Adobe Camera Raw and DNG Converter : For Macintosh : Camera Raw 6.7.1 Update
Once downloaded, unzip/unpack the file, and run the executable to start the update, following the instructions.

If I click "Open Anyway" or "Render using Lightroom", I get the following message:
"Adobe Photoshop CS6 cannot be opened because of a problem.
Check with the developer to make sure Adobe Photoshop CS6 works with this version of OS X. You may need to reinstall the application. Be sure to install any available updates for the application and OS X."
Please tell me what to do so I can edit from Lightroom to Photoshop.

In Photoshop, if you choose Help - About Plug-in... - Camera Raw, does it say 8.6?
Seems to me there was some hiccup they found in the update process, which prompted this:
Camera Raw updates cannot be applied
I honestly don't know if the problem could apply to 8.6 as well, which is why I asked you to check to make very sure you really got it.

  • Outdated Camera Raw plug-in for CS5 Extended

As a long time user of ADOBE products, (Flash, Reader, Acrobat, Photodeluxe, and photoshop)  I was first introduced to PHOTODELUXE2 that came with a scanner. Got to like it, then over the years, I've had the opportunity to try out other PS titles like PS7, and the last version I have is the PS CS5 Extended, which I bought at a garage sale a few years ago.  Are these Photoshop programs only for the RICH AND FAMOUS?
I have cancer, and I am on disability, so for obvious reasons, and financially, I can not afford the $700.00 plus price tag for photoshop full licensed program. I have tried to open RAW photos from my Canon G6 Digital camera, but the plug-in needs to be updated. I also have a newer Canon SX50, that does have a RAW plug in, but that only works with this cameras photos, not my old CRW Images.
The G6 Raw plug-in was a 32-bit, that came with the Install Canon disc, but since changing my 32-bit OS to a WIN 7 64-bit, that plug-in no longer works, unless I get a hold of another XP 32Bit computer, and install it on that, which I do not wish to do,
Is there a third party Camera raw plugin that might open these G6 RAW files?  or do I have to buy the expensive full licensed program, which I can not afford? I have taken a photoshop Class at a local School, and received a 'Certificate of Completion", but as a student, I did not know at that time, that I could have got a discouted price for being a student, and looking back, it was still too expensive for me anyway, even at that price.
Since being diagnosed with cancer, I find myself at home all the time and enjoy editing photos for my self and family, I do not use this PS software for any financial gain, just self enjoyment, which takes my thoughts of having cancer away whenever I dabble.
I certainy appreciate the work that the Adobe developers go through, and I certainly do not want to take away from their livlihood buy using a product I bought for $15.00 for at a garage sale last year. But the CS6 Standard costs $700.00, or the CS6 Extended, at $1,000, what are my options?..I haven't won the lottery just yet.
i guess I'm looking for a Camera raw Plug-in to be able to open older CRW RAW Images. OR find a licensed PD CS5 Extended at a nominal price. Thank you for any help!  Sincerely, Jim

I think the G6 should be supported by camera raw in PS CS5.  You can download camera raw 6.7.1 -- the latest camera raw plugin for PS CS5 -- from  http://www.adobe.com/downloads/updates.html
Scroll down to Camera Raw, click on Windows then download the 6.7.1 update.  Direct link:  http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=106&platform=Windows
PS CS5 usually installs both a 64-bit version and a 32-bit version on 64-bit systems.  You might look in your Win 7 program listing (Start key, then All Programs) where you should see both Adobe Photoshop CS5 and Adobe Photoshop CS5 (64-bit).  Your older 32-bit plugin that you used before might work with the 32-bit version of PS CS5.  Plugin would need to be installed in the 32-bit version only -- in C:\Program Files (x86).
