Failed download.. I can't remove Setup icon

2 downloads have failed and now I have 2 (useless) iTunes setup icons on my desktop that I can't remove. They are .exe files of 0 bytes. Can somebody pls help me remove them?

Yes. Can't remove...being used by another program or person
eerie ...
okay, do you have multiple user accounts on that PC? if so, can you delete from a different user account? (there's some anecdotal evidence that switching off fast user switching can help during an itunes install.)
if no joy there, check to see if there are still installer processes running:

and if no joy there, maybe try switching your antivirus and antispyware off.
keep us posted.

  • Can't remove App Icon

I'm brand new to iPad (don't even have a smart phone).
One of the Apps I tried to download didn't work or finish.
The icon says "waiting" and it's a blank box. I can't remove it.
    Any ideas?
Thanks for any help you can give.

I encountered similar problem too. Turning off and on doesn't solve it.
You mentioned about resetting. IS it just a re-boot or a hard reset (where the phone restore to factory settings)? Is a re-boot different from turning off and on the iPad?
    JimHdk wrote:
If you turn off the iPad (press sleep/wake button until power down slider appears) and restart it the wayward icon should go away.
You may also be able to eliminate the icon by resetting the iPad (press sleep/wake button and the home button simultaneously until the Apple logo appears).

  • How can I remove an icon from my desktop that doesn't want to go?

I was unsuccessful in installing a particular program, so I thought I would just "wipe the slate clean" and try again. Unfortunately, the icon on my desktop doesn't want to go. Every time I try to move it into the TRASH, a note on the screen says, "The icon "iScrobbler" cannot be moved to the trash because it is open".
I've turned the computer off and on again, and I've tried the DELETE button, but the icon remains on my desktop. How can I remove it?

There can be many reasons why a file "doesn't want"
something. But you may be able to replace the file if
you can rename it. Follow the steps here:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107426
If that doesn't help, you may need to delete it using
root user privileges. That's a very advanced and
risky method so you should consult with someone who
is experienced with that process. I have done it many
times to delete goofed files that have a mind of
    their own.
It didn't work, I'm sorry to say, but thanks for the idea. As to the "root user privileges" method, I wouldn't even consider it. My computer "skills" are definitely not at the level for trying anything that could be described in those terms. Still, there is hope. I found the creator of the program and sent him an e-mail message this morning.
Finally, I'd like to thank you again for your extraordinary performance. Talk about "service above and beyond.." well, that certainly describes you. I somehow feel that if you couldn't...no, no, let's not say that, let's just hope that the program's creator will be able to help. Thanks again for what you have done.

  • Can't remove blank icons next to bookmarks

Recently upgraded from Firefox 3.x to 15 (I know, but 4+ is terrible IMO). Anyway - I want to remove the favicons next to bookmarks in the bookmarks tab AND the toolbar and it doesn't seem to be possible. Currently they are all showing an empty dotted box instead of the icons themselves. It seems doing this fix for old versions (http://www.ghacks.net/2009/05/11/how-to-remove-favicons-in-firefox-bookmarks/) will remove the icon, and stop new ones from being added but will NOT remove this annoying box.
    http://i45.tinypic.com/6sck08.jpg
    http://i47.tinypic.com/30lm1ow.jpg
I looked into the .css fix but my .css files are completely blank for some reason. How can I remove all of these boxes completely without an addon?

    You're welcome
You can leave out the code of the .tab-throbber:not([pinned]), but that will cause the text to move if the throbber gets active.
    <pre><nowiki>.tab-icon-image:not([pinned]) { display:none !important; }
    </nowiki></pre>
If you do not want the text to jump, but have an empty space then hide the favicon instead.
    <pre><nowiki>.tab-icon-image:not([pinned]) { visibility:hidden !important; }
    </nowiki></pre>

  • Can't remove Safari icon

I keep removing the Safari icon from my dock but each time I restart the computer it appears again. It's the only app that appears to do this. How can I remove it and make it stay removed?
    Marky

Locate the com.apple.dock.plist file in <username>/Library/Preferences
You could try these two options.
Option 1. Delete this file and revert your dock back to default apps.
    or try the following:
Option 2. If you have the developer tools installed on your computer you can open the file with plist editor.
    • When this programme opens it will display a window with a small grey arrow next to the word Root. Click on this grey arrow.
    • Find the text persistent-apps click on the grey arrow next to it. A list of numbers will appear with grey arrows next to them.
    • These are an ordered list of the apps in your dock. Click on the number 2 drop down arrow.
    • Now in the list that has just dropped down click on the tile-data drop down arrow.
    • Now locate the file-label text. On the right hand side it will give you the name of the application.
    • Locate the number that safari is registered under. Number 1 is the first application after the dashboard.
    • Click on the number safari is registered under and click on the delete button at the top of the window.
    • Save this file and then either restart or logout.
Please post back and let me know if my suggestion fixes your problem or if you cannot understand my instructions.

  • Ipad games stuck on "download" and can not remove

I have downloaded 2 games from the apps on my ipad 2 and the message says to connect to a computer as they are over 20 mb. I synced my ipad with the computer and now the games are fully loaded on the desktop but will not load to the ipad. I can't remove them as they  are frozen in "downloading" on the ipad.

    Hey Angela,
Turn the iPad off and then back on: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4057
Try to delete them now if they didn't go away already
If the issue persists and your iPad is running the latest version of the OS, restore: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414
    Hope that helps.

  • When I downloaded to iPad, it removed my icons, how do I uninstall? It is not helping me with the program I need for homeschooling. Please tell me how to uninstall from my iPad. Thank you

I downloaded firefox to my pc to sync to my iPad. However, when it downloaded to my iPad, it removed all my desktop icons and is not working with my homeschooling program. I need to uninstall it from my iPad. Please let me know how to do this. Thank you.

  • I can't remove an icon from dock

I installed some Canon software with a CD, then found that the software wouldn't work on the OS (10.9.1), but that iPhoto worked fine. So I dragged all the useless software in applications to trash and deleted trash. The icons for the various useless apps remained in the dock. I dragged them out but they wouldn't disappear with the usual puff of smoke, so I dragged them to trash and all but one of them disappeared. I can't get this last one off! Any suggestions?

Write a nasty email to HP about this obnoxious behavior. What they have done is create a hidden program that runs automatically on startup and inserts the thing in your Dock. You can delete the noxious program, but it leaves an entry in the login.plist file so that the system tries vainly to launch the now missing program. Bad HP! You need to remove the program AND edit your login.plist file. See this description:
    http://www.twisty.com/bandwagon/archives/2004/04/10/122200
I consider this behavior adequate reason to not buy HP products.

  • How can I remove an icon from the status menu when command and drag doesn't work?

I am trying to remove a status icon for an application I uninstalled. When I try to drag it, nothing happens, so removing it by the "command"key & drag method isn't effective. Is there another way I can get rid of it?

A status bar item should go away when the application quits, otherwise it belongs to some other helper application that is still running.  Using a launch agent or something like that for a status bar item may or may not be the most user friendly thing, but it's no hack - there are Cocoa API's for status bars.  If anything, the Menu Extras provided by Apple are the hacks, but I digress.

  • Can't Remove QUICKTIME icon

Somehow quicktime got incompletely installed on my system (OS is Win 98SE). Everytime my comp starts up there is a QT icon on the lower right. Problem is, I can't get rid of it. When I right-click all the selections are greyed-out so I can't select them. The only ones that I can select are "exit" and "quick time website". When I go to control panel I cannot unistall it because it is not listed as a program. I tried to download QT hoping I could then unistall it, but I can't because my OS is not supported. I installed windows install clean-up and ran it but there is nothing listed for QT. I did find qttask.exe in my windows folder. (Not sure if I can just drag this to the recycle bin or not?)
Could someone PLEASE help me get rid of this. Ever since it appeared, my Internet Explorer browser has been shutting down on certain websites.
    Thanks.
      Windows 98

Start -> Find -> Files or Folders
I enter Quicktime uninstaller and come up with 3 files:
    1. QUICKTIMEINSTALLER[1]FFF848A1.log in Windows\Temp
    2. QuickTime in Program Files\adobe\acrobat 6.0\reader\plug-ins\multimedia\mpp
    3. QuickTime602.bak in same folder as above.
When I do the same method to search for Quicktime I get the same 3 files.
When I search for QT I get: (type listed in parentheses)
    Qtw in Windows (configuration setting)
    Qtw.--- in Windows (---File)
QT Plugin.ocx in Window\System (ocx file)
    qttask in Windows\system (application)
    aqtau in program files\java\j2re1.4.2_05\lib\zi\asia (file)
    aqtobe *same as above*
and some other files that I don't think are relevant.
What should I do? Should I drag them to the recycle bin 1-by-1? (I don't want to delete anything I shouldn't)
By the way, I am not sure if this website (http://umvetim.cvm.umn.edu/) may have installed it, but I couldn't get this site to work and this was around the time I started noticing the QT icon in the systray. (It is a site to look at digital PACS images (x-rays, CT scans, Ultrasound images etc).
    Thanks,
    Jeff

  • IPad 4 download apps can't remove!

    Hi,
The problem is, when I constantly press on the app which I wish to remove from my iPad 4,
the pressed app did not shake and the "X" icon did not appear.
I do the same thing to my iPhone 5 and it went perfectly well. Can it be any wrong set up on my iPad 4?
I would be appreciate your kind advise and comment. Thanks!

Restart your iPad by holding the Home and Sleep buttons at the same time until the Apple logo appears on the screen.  No data will be lost; it's just a quick reboot.  Hopefully when the iPad returns to the home screen the app will be gone.

  • How can I remove the icons from my personal toolbar (I don't need them, words are fine, and they take up too much space)?

I shorten the names of sites in the properties box to allow me to get a lot of them in my toolbar, and they no longer fit because of all the icons. Personally, I hate icons and don't understand why everyone has trouble with words, a trusted and highly refined technology of identifiers.

    You can try this add-on:

  • How can I remove these icons?

I have a BR burner I've added to my MAC.
I use a combination of Roxio or Adobe Encore to burn to the BR burner.  The discs come out working fine but these leave an icon in my finder and I cannot get rid of them.  I've attached a picture.
The icons are the blue folders at the bottom.  How do I get rid of those?  I cannot, option+click, command+click, right click... nothing I try will give me an option to remove them.
    Thanks
    Drew

    Brilliant... worked like a charm.
    Thanks!

  • Can't remove menu icon

I attempted unsuccessfully to install a printer yesterday, a Samsung that has what appears to be a not uncommon connection issue. At any rate, I removed everything, even using their "uninstall" option. But I'm left with some kind of Smart Screen (or something like that) menu item in the finder. I've of course tried the traditional option-drag or right-click drag but it doesn't move. I even tried to re-install the printing software then remove the menu again, but no luck. Is there another way to get rid of a legacy menu item that stubbornly resists removal!?

Actually, it is COMMAND click and hold and drag the icon off the menu bar. The menu bar extras (the legitimate ones anyway) are stored in
    /Users/yourname/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systemuiserver.plist
If the correct mouse solution (above) doesn't work you could try trashing that plist, then log out and back in and see if you now have the default set of menu bar extras.
