Failed emails saving in different location
Hey everyone,
I have an issue with a client's Outlook. When he replies to an email from a sub folder and the email fails, a copy is not placed in sent items however there is one attached to the original email in the sub folder.
'When replying to a message that is not in the Inbox, save the reply in the same folder' is not checked in mail settings.
Hi,
Did the user get any error message or NDR (Non-delivery report) when it failed to send?
Does this issue happen all the time when replying to an email?
We may try logon to web mail and reply email from there to see the result.
In addition, we can create a new mail profile in Control Panel and re-configure the email account to see the result. See:
https://support.microsoft.com/kb/829918/
Please let me know the result.
Regards,
Steve Fan

When trying to download to download Firefox 4, the following message comes up: Downloading/Volumes/Firefox/05weDe.part. could not be saved because of an unknown error. Try saving to a different location. I have a Mac OS X Version 10.4.10. I think I should be able to download Firefox 4. I have Firefox Version 3.6 now.
I am often getting this kind of error, although I believe it's less frequent with Firefox 4 than with the previous version. I do not know a proper solution, but I have noticed this:
* If I simply try to re-download, it will fail again.
* If I clear the list in the download window, I can download the same file without any trouble.
I believe the problem may be related to the antivirus software. The file is downloaded completely, and instead of moving it to the final position Firefox gets confused and deletes it. -
Any APP crashes when opening/saving on different locations
Hi Folks... I'm having a new issue on my mac, which is coming more and more regular...
The apps crash when I'm trying to:
1. open a file from the File/Open that pop ups a window for browse the file.
2. When I'm trying to save the file through the Save As command. The crash mostly occurs when I'm trying to browse to another folder, either been for save or for open a file.
Apps involved: mostly Photoshop CS5 and Safari, but it happens with other apps too.
Extra symptom: When the crash occurs, the file gets like corrupted, so each time I try to open/save the file, it crashes the app.
Solution for the extra symptom: change the name of the file, but problem 1 & 2 starts again (so I have to create a loop of files with different names in order to sort the problem).
Importance of problem: SUPER HIGH! I'm loosing very important works when this happens, because saving isn't secure and I cannot save as [different versions of the same file] from the app because it's 100% it crashes, so I have to rewrite the file each time I have to save it, which is not good either.
Things I did:
1. I already uninstalled and reinstalled Photoshop and cleaned all the files related to it (plists, preferences, etc), so I did a clean install of it and the problem persists.
2. Already cleaned all the cache files, plist and such from Safari, but the problem persists.
3. Already ran all the usual maintenance routines and the problem persists.
I'm hoping to get a clear answer for this issue because I'm wasting lot of time when working, specially in Photoshop.
Thank you very much for your help, as always!

The problem still persists. I have tried with other apps, such as Excel, Mail, Text Edit, etc (you know that also Safari and Photoshop) and the problem is exactly the same... So the problem doesn't come from the apps.
Strangely, when doing some automated task in Photoshop (I use to retouch plenty of pics, it's my job) like using the Script Tool located in the File Menu, I have to open a location and browse for the pics I want to automate, just like opening a window from any app, and browsing for a file and it doesn't crash. It¡s exactly the same thing but it doesn't crash.
Weird...
Will put here a log file of let say, text edit (it crashed when I selected other than the default directory):

Email: SMTP at different locations?
I have just started using an Ipad.
I have set up the email and using the wifi at home it works great using the server-address for sending that my provider gave me: smtp.provider.com
However, sending email from other locations (different providers) does not work. Receiving is no problem.
Does this imply that I have to change the sending server address for every location that I come to?
Isn't there a generic server address? My email is with Microsoft ([email protected])
(I tried pop3.live.com and smtp.live.com but these do not work)Thank you for your response.
My provider is not interested to answer me as they say: it works from your primary location and that is what you pay for. This is correct, the Ipad works fine from my home, but once I am somwehere else and try to send an email to someone I get the error message: The server does not accept the recipient (email adres), because the server does not allow relaying."
So, how do you all send your emails from the Ipad when you are not at home ?? -
Update Service fails when saving to different hard drive
Under file -> preferences in Update Service 2.2.1 I changed my save directory to an E: drive. The installers fail to run after downloading all the updates. Works fine when I switch it back to C:, but since it is a SSD space is often limited and I'd like for this functionality to work.
Any suggestions?

Hi Jordan,
I think a bit more information can help us get to the bottom of the problem:
At what point does the failure occur? For example, can you select updates, do they download, and does the installer start running?
yes. the installer runs, but gives an error saying it cannot find the files and prompts if to continue with the next installer
If the installer does get built, can you change the preference to 'Save Only' and run the installer manually? Does it work then?
once started it won't let me do anything but resume the session or start a new one
Can you try running Update Service with logging and share the logfile with me? From the command line, run NIUpdateService.exe (usually located at Program Files\National Instruments\Shared\Update Service) -log pathtologfile.txt.
I have since switched back to the C:\ drive and installed my updates, but here's your log file anyway.
Does that drive have execute permissions?
yes
Do you have UAC enabled/disabled?
disabled

My Save As files are saving to different locations.
Since moving from CS3 to CS5 my files don't save to the same location they were opened from. If I have a file open and I Save As or Export, it will save the file in the location of the last item saved.
How do I change this so that no matter what is open that file's "Save As" or "Export" file will remain in the same location as the original file?
Thanks in advance.If you're on a Mac, try out the great utility, "Default Folder" from St. Clair Software. It'll let you do all kinds of things with open/save dialogs, and I've used it for over a decade and don't know what I'd do without it. It's also VERY inexpensive, so well worth it.
Cheers!

hey folks, when saving from any program (Pages here as an example), i only get folders listed in 'Places' to choose from, however i have many folders within folders which i would like to be able to browse to to save in, any idea how i can change this?
if you need anymore information please ask.
Cheers.I think you just need to click the little blue box with a black triangle next to the name of the file you're saving. This will open the more detailed column view of your hard drive. From there you can find more or dig down deeper into folders for a location.

Saving screenshots to a different location?
Somewhere, there is a preference to set the default location to save screenshots... I can't find it now! I have one of my machines set to save screenshots to a folder on my desktop, so I know this is possible. But I can't seem to find that preference on a second machine. I thought it was a preference setting in Cocktail, but it isn't there.
Can anyone tell me where to set the default location for saving screenshots? I need to set it to a folder instead of Mac OS's default of the Desktop.
Thanks!I would love to know how to set a different location. How do you do this in Leopard and Snow Leopard?

I import messages into Thunderbird. I send and receive emails. One of the things I like about Thunderbird is that I can insert (image, link, etc) right where I want to, and I can Attach. But not just a simple attach file. No, I can also click Attach and choose Webpage. A lot of web-based emails are plain, simple, no frills - Attach file and that's it.
So I need to have my client be able to do the same thing I do when sending out emails, Namely sending out emails with an Electronic Press Kit (EPK) attached - which is to say, a webpage (not a pdf in our case). So, I need her to download, install, and use Thunderbird.
Here's the problem and my question. She needs to access, send, and receive from my email account. That would be easy if it was simple attach files - she could just login on the web, go to squirrel mail and bang it out.. Here it is: She needs to be able to import the messages to be able to reply to some messages - she needs access to what I have access to. She needs to use Thunderbird so she can take advantage of the features like insert image with link or attaching a webpage. My question is how will this affect my use? Can 2 people simultaneously and from different locations access and use the same email account or is it a case where her importing the emails would cut me off..Is it an either or thing? Basically, can her and I both import the emails or can they only be imported to one location at a time. Because every time someone sends me an email i get it right there on my Thunderbird application..it's imported to my Thunderbird..I want her and I to be able to do that without affecting each other. I don't want her to start importing to her desktop and then I can no longer import. If she says "point those messages to my computer what will happen to my ability to access them on my computer in the same manner I am currently?I think there is a contradiction in your requirements. You want two people to share an account and you don't want either to interfere with the other.
The short and simple answer is to use IMAP to connect to the mail server. If your current email provider doesn't offer IMAP, find another that does. This is old technology already and it's disgraceful that some email providers haven't yet put it in place.
IMAP means that your messages are stored on the server and both of you will see exactly the same set of messages. And therein lies the contradiction; you will both see changes made by the other so you are inherently interfering with one another.
Caveats: some providers may not permit you both to access the account concurrently, and even if they do, things may become interesting if you both choose to work on the same message simultaneously.
Note that all of this is about email servers and protocols; your choice of Thunderbird as your email client has little bearing on the situation. -
Hello All,
My question is related to calling and execution of LabVIEW Vis from two or more different teststation(Test System) using NI TestStand.
Following are some definitions to understand the question better
A Test Station:is a independent sytem.different instruments(Multimeter,Function generator etc) are connected to this Station.Teststaion using NI TestStand for Test managment.
A LabVIEW :LabVIEW vis are saved at share location(server).These vis are responsible for communicating with different instruments connected to TestStation.
Execution:TestStand calls these Vis in sequene to perform particular test.
My query is to know ....Can we call and execute shared labVIEW vis from two or more TestStation simulatneously and cummunicate with connected instrument on each teststation.
Is there any possiblity of conflict as using same vis but on different station?
My concern is to avoid duplicacy of similar vis.Is there any better option to implement the same concern?
Thanks in advance

NI Certified TestStand Developer(CTD}I suggest you to try adding the shared vi to the labview project(.lvproj) running in same or different stations which is connected to the instrument. Adding the vi to a project will open it in the project instance instead of default application instance. Hence there won't be any conflict in execution.

Songs saved in two different locations, why?
I was looking around my hd today and found that I have two copies of many of my mp3 files, some of which i deleted months ago. The first set of songs are in the "Music" folder and are only sorted by file name. The second set is located in music>itunes>itunes music and is sorted by artist then album, the same as in iTunes.
I have two questions. Firstly, is it safe to delete the copies in the Music folder and just use the ones in the iTunes folder? And second is there any way I can stop this from happening in the future?
ThanksMay I ask a related question, since what I'm trying to do is to avoid having songs in two different locations? (If not, just tell me the rules; I'm relatively new to Discussions, as well as being a new Mac OS X user!)
I've set up separate user accounts for my children on our iMac. They want to put music on the computer, but their interests overlap somewhat. In order to avoid having the same songs copied into the iTunes Music folder of more than one user, and to allow all users to access all music files, I followed a suggestion from David Pogue's book on OS X, namely to put all the music in an iTunes Music folder in the ~/Users/Shared folder, and then make that the default folder for each user by changing the iTunes preferences.
The problem with this was that then my son was unable to copy (import?) the music from a CD by dragging it to his iTunes Library icon--error message said he didn't have access to the folder--whereas he had been able to do so when ~/Users/HisUsername/Music/iTunes/iTunes Music was his default folder. I tried to solve this problem by changing the permissions on ~/Users/Shared/iTunes Music to be read & write, but then everyone but me started having problems running iTunes (it would give an error message saying "iTunes is on a locked disk, or you don't have access . . .").
Lots of people seem to have the same problem (i.e., error message in running iTunes), but leaving that aside my basic question is what's the most efficient way to store and access music files so that (a) everyone can access it, (b) the number of duplicates is minimized, and (c) individual users can add music to the computer? Any suggestions will be very welcome!

Excel file save as PDF goes to different locations on OneDrive
Good Afternon,
I'm trying to find any help referring to Excel 2013 and OneDrive. I've got application which creating kind of report and then saving it as PDF to OneDrive location. The problem
is that application is dropping copy of PDF file to default location (see code below) but also sometimes you can find same copy in different random folders on L: drive. I'm sure there is no other code which making copy to those locations. I was wandering if
it could be a problem with connection to a server? Your help will be much appreciated. Regards
ActiveSheet.ExportAsFixedFormat Type:=xlTypePDF, Filename:= _
"L:\WW\Business Development\ARC South\Official's Report Templates\" & ActiveSheet.Range("GL42").Value & ".pdf" _
, Quality:=xlQualityStandard, IncludeDocProperties:=True, IgnorePrintAreas _
:=False, OpenAfterPublish:=FalseThanks a lot for reply, I've got copies of those reports in
Official's Report Templates subfolder, but for some reason macro is dropping another copy (not always) into different location e.g. somewhere in ARC South,
outside of "Official's Report Templates" subfolder. Value in GL42 is only part of the name of the file and contains name of employee. That part seems to be fine, especially that macro is attaching that file to email from the same location (Official's
Report Templates) later. No idea where could be a problem. -
What file name, are old emails saved under in backups?
Time Machine, does not seem to operate properly, past the date when I clean installed Yosemite. My files are all there, but I can only find them by going into my drive, and either searching for the file in Time Machine, or searching for it in my backup drive. I cannot restore a mail file, by opening mail, and time machine. It works fine up until the date, when I installed Yosemite. I have done 2 different completely clean installs, and one using migration assistant, wt a multitude of problems. I am done wt doing that. My iMac is finally running smoothly, and I have managed to migrate everything back into my iMac, except for my old emails. I'm pretty sure that I could restore my emails, as long as I knew where there there supposed to be stored on my iMac. I could basically restore them, by either looking in my backup drive where they are before I installed Yosemite. What file name, are old Maverick emails saved under in backups?
The information viewed in Contacts is not located in a single file, nor a single directory.
[Copied from another thread I responded to recently:
https://discussions.apple.com/message/24658329#24658329]
This MIGHT be include all the files you need, but there might also be Preferences files needed from another directory.
Also, I migrated my data from an older OS X version (10.6.8) where the app was called Address Book. On brand new systems, it is called Contacts, and the correct directory might be named Contacts.
NOTE: Be sure to replace Macintosh HD below with the actual hard drive name if not Macintosh HD, and username below with the actual user's name...
Transfer all the files from Macintosh HD/Users/username/Library/Application Support/AddressBook/
That WILL INCLUDE each of these three subdirectories where the necessary files and data are stored:
Macintosh HD/Users/username/Library/Application Support/AddressBook/images
Macintosh HD/Users/username/Library/Application Support/AddressBook/Metadata
Macintosh HD/Users/username/Library/Application Support/AddressBook/Sources -
Storing Podcasts in a different location
I want to store podcast on an external HDD connected to an Airport Extreme but keep my music files on the macbook to play over airtunes at a different location. I like to keep all my podcasts and have too many for the MBP HDD. can someone explain how i can do this??
You seem to be afraid of losing emails due to a potential computer failure - as computer is on it's last legs.
You are not talking about a problem with storage, just concerned the computer could die on you with all your emails.
You have a choice of actions:
You could backup the entire profile and copy it to external storage.
This will inlude all account names, preferences, emails, filters etc.
I assume you are using a POP mail account.
Make hidden files and folders visible:
The AppData folder is folder is a hidden folder; to show hidden folders, open a Windows Explorer window and choose "Organize → Folder and Search Options → Folder Options → View (tab) → Show hidden files and folders".
More info:
http://kb.mozillazine.org/Show_hidden_files_and_folders
If you use Windows Vista or Win7 OS
then locate this directory:
* C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird\Profiles\xxxxxxxxdefault
The Profile folder name is 'xxxxxxx.default' where the x's will be letters and numbers.
Copy the profile folder name and paste it in external storage.
Another method:
You could backup only the emails and the address books.
Download this addon tool and save to desktop or downloads folder.
ImportExporttools
* https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/addon/importexporttools/
How to Install:
* Tools > Addons
* Click on gear wheel icon and select : Install addon from file
* REstart Thunderbird.
Right click on folder in folder Pane and select:
ImportExporttool > Export Folder
REpeat for each folder you need to export.
the folders are exported and saved in mbox format.
Address Books:
* click on 'Address Book' button to open Address book.
* select an address book
* Tools > Export
* choose where to save
* give a suitable filename
* Save as type; choose either LDAP or comma separated .csv
* click on Save.
Repeat for each address book. -

You posted in the OS 9 & below forum. Your profile shows MacBook, Mac OS 9.0.x, LAPTOP 6 YEARS OLD. Then you state you are using Firefox version 3.6.23.
MacBooks can't run OS 9. The Firefox version requires OS X. Can you clarify what Mac you have and what OS it's running?
Also, it's not polite to type your question in all caps, as it's considered SHOUTING.
