Failed in starting up Portal 4.0 server

Hi,
I downloaded WebLogic Portal 4.0 from the web, followed the installation instructions (ie. wl server 6.1 -> portal 4.0 -> ebcc -> docs -> copying portal-license, setting PATH and updating license), then tried to start portal server; but, it never prompted for the system password. Instead, I got a message from the prompt window like this (after the "Please be patient" message): "The name specified is not recognized as an internal or extaernal command, operable program or batch file. Press any key to continue . . .". Then, if I really press any key, the window closed and nothing happens any more.
I wonder what is wrong here and how to fix it.
Thnak you very much for your help!
Jane

Sorry - I meant weblogic.integration.interest.

    there is no such discussion. It says that weblogic support people should be able to assist for evaluating the problem. I am evaluating the problem seriously and I can not wait too long for the answer to get this fix. Otherwise we consider with other product such as: websphere or iplanet which we have evaluated the product and happy so far.
    The error message I encounter is:
    Note: Server initialization may take several minutes.
    Please be patient.

    I also get the same error. Are you running XP?
    I get the following error when I attempt to execute the Weblogic Portal 4.0.
    I have a licensed version of WLS 6.1 SP2 also installed in the same machine
    in the same dir. I also ran the license update routine. Can some offer
    some advice?

    Hi,
    Please check if you have disabled the autodisconnect feature of the Server service. On Windows servers it can be configured through the Autodisconnect registry key.
    \HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanServer\Parameters\
    CIFS and SMB Timeouts in Windows
    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/openspecification/archive/2013/03/19/cifs-and-smb-timeouts-in-windows.aspx
    Based on the research, as the open shared folder is in a SMB session, the default timeout for SMB session is 15 minutes. If the SMB session is inactive for 15 minutes the server will send a TCP reset to close the SMB connection. Until the
    Autodisconnect timer is reached, the server will send an NBT keep-alive packet every two minutes. If a client or server application is not written to properly handle network delays, it may terminate the session prior to the default timeout
    period.
    For more detailed information, please refer to the thread below:

    No wonder you are having problems. The document you have linked to is full of errors and inconsistencies.
    Anyway, find log4j.properties under your expanded war file location and update it so that
    log4j.appender.file.file=logs/rbacx.log
    is updated to point to a location that exists and is writable by weblogic, eg:
    log4j.appender.file.file=/opt/oracle/weblogic/user_projects/OIA/logs/rbacx.log

    David,
    Thanks for your detailed response. I will try all that you suggested and let you know my observation at the end. To give a back ground of the application I am working on.
    Background
    Try to replace home grown cache (very well optimized uses custom serialization using NIO bytebuffer etc.,) my mandate is to replace the legacy cache with coherence (I love coherence product (at least 3.4) from my previous job experience). Since all kind of optimization is done in legacy application I am converting NIO byteBuffer generated by legacy serialization to byteArray and converting ByteArray into POF. Also for various other reasons, I have to send entry processor to do even get and put data from the cluster.
    Raw Data Set Size
    My data size is just 500MB (In Production). I put enough cache nodes so that raw data is just 50MB per node. (Since it is compute heavy with entry processor and the number of clients are going to be ~2500)
    What was happening when I got the exception?
    I was doing stress testing of the cache. Not sure if that put lot of garbage in some of the node hence may be the garbage collection pause triggered the re-distribution of partition set. Since the stress testing was on the way it might had cascading effect on all the nodes.
    Datagram Test result.
    Tx summary 4 peers:
    life: 96 MB/sec, 68774 packets/sec
    now: 100 MB/sec, 71378 packets/sec, packets/burst: 1029, bursts/second: 69.41594
    Success rate ranges from 0.87 to 1.0
    Is a success rate less than 0.98 a cause for concern?
    Regarding Size (to keep the extend client always connected to the proxy)
    I do size request every 5 sec. if there is not other request has gone to the cluster in the past 5 sec.
    In one of the oracle presentation it was said that "If you have map listener's and no other request from a long period of time extend client has to do a periodic size request to make sure that connection to proxy is alive"
    In this regard my question is "Can the same effect achieved by doing member listener on the extend client and on disconnection do the size request?"
    Proxy Size guide lines
    In production number of extend clients are going to be ~2500 connected all the time.
    Of which 2000 clients with few map listener + entry processor gets (Each of the clients will have distinct and disjoint set of data on which they work and listener)
    And the remaining ~500 clients will do all kinds of request on the entire data set.
    In this circumstance is there any recommendation for Number of extend-client : Number of extend-server : Number of threads ratio?
    Regards
    /Anand

  • Installed lion server fails to start up

    Installed lion server fails to start up in Network account server ( I just getting a red dot and it reads local server) and  when i try to add a my servers host name into it It just get "Unable to add server" host not found (9007). It seems to me that server is not set up right or that something went wrong with the initial install setup.

    HI
    Krishna
    The formal reason for ORA-03120 is
    An integer value in an internal Oracle structure overflowed when
    being sent or received over a heterogeneous connection. This can happen when an
    invalid buffer length or too great a row count is specified. It usually indicates
    a bug in the user application.
    Action: Check parameters to Oracle calls. If the problem recurs, reduce all integer
    parameters, column values not included, to less than 32767.
    But I also suggest you to look for all Oracle suggested patches. I have seen people
    getting the same error On HP unix.
    If you are using Oracle 8.1.7, you must have the 8.1.7.1 server
    patch installed. Otherwise, you may receive the Oracle error:
    "ORA-03120: two-task conversion routine: integer overflow"
    when fetching LOB data.
    regards
    Sasi

    The steps I followed:
    1. Run ./config.sh from wlserver_10.3/common/bin to create new domain.
    2. Run ./craete_db.sh from newly created domain folder.
    3. Run ./startWeblogic.sh

    Hi
    Its been a while I have not worked on Weblogic Portal. BUT after creating the Portal Domain using config wizard, why did you again run create_db scripts. As far as I know, this is NOT required. Is your intention to change the portal db schema to some other database like to Oracle etc. Then why don't you do that at the time of domain creation itself. Give those DB details. create_db is if you ever want to use any other db to have your portal schemas. After doing this, you also should run one more .sql file in one of the folders under your domain root folder structure (something like yourdomain/security/SQLAuthenticator.sql).
    Now, the main point is, what ever database you use, when you run Config Wizard and choose Portal Domain facet and click next, next, at one of the screens, it shows all the Portal DataSources details (have default db or modify to use oracle etc). BUT the main thing is in next screen, when you test all these DataSources, there should be button in the bottom like Run Scripts. Make sure to hit this button. Because this will create and run full portal schema scripts. You cannot miss this. Complete the domain creation and start the domain and try again.
    Thanks
    Ravi JeggaHow can I run that extra .sql file? The steps I follow in creating domain is as follows:
    Steps:
    1. Select Create new weblogic domain.
    2. Select Choose Weblogic Platform componenets.
    3. Select Basic WebLogic Server Domain - 10.3.4.0 [wlserver_10.3] and WebLogic Portal - 10.3.4.0.
    4. Enter domain name.
    5. Enter username/password.
    6. Select development mode.
    7. Select JRockit SDK 1.6.0_22 @ /usr/local/Oracle/jrockit_160_22_D1.1.1-3
    8. Got following on screen:
    Edit the configuration of JDBC data sources. A data source contains a pool of database connections. Applications look up a data source in the JNDI tree, request a connection, use it, and
    return it to the connection pool.

    Use above value or select another option:
    1 - Modify
    2 - Discard Changes
    Enter option number to select OR [Exit][Previous][Next]>Done nothing and go to next screen.
    9. Following appears:
    If your connections tested OK, you may now run database scripts. For each JDBC data source, you will select the desired database loading options and database version.
    1|p13nDataSource
    2|portalDataSource
    3|portalDataSourceAlwaysXA
    4|portalDataSourceNeverXA
    5|cgDataSource
    6|cgDataSource-nonXA
    ->7|Skip JDBC Configuration
    Enter index number to select OR [Exit][Previous][Next]> Here selected every datasource one by one and loaded their database.
    10. Select Administration Server.
    11. Following screen:
    Each WebLogic Server domain must have one Administration Server. The Administration Server is used to perform administrative tasks.
    | Name | Value |
    _|__________________|_____________________|
    1| *Name:      |     AdminServer     |

    Use above value or select another option:
    1 - Modify "Name"
    2 - Modify "Listen address"
    3 - Modify "Listen port"
    4 - Modify "SSL enabled"     Kept all things default and gone to next screen.
    12. Go to domain directory and run ./startWebLogic.sh.

  • HostXYZ.cacheserver - Crystal Reports Cache Server: Failed to start/stop

    Hi,
    We are  unable to  open any of the BO Crystal Reports through our 'Clarity PPM Web Application'.When we logged on to the BO CMC portal in the production environment, In the 'Servers' section, we could see the 'HostXYZ.cacheserver in 'Stopped' state.When we are trying to restart that server, it results in an error "HostXYZ.cacheserver - Crystal Reports Cache Server: Failed to start/stop".Could you please help me how to proceed further?Please let me know, if you need any other information.
    Thanks,
    Sandeep

    WHich version of BO do you use? Go into the CMC navigate to Servers and check the Metrics section of your Central management server. There should be a version number like x.y.z.w there. Can you please post it here?

  • ORA-12500 TNSLISTENER failed to start a dedicated server process

    Environment W2000 Pro SP4 latest fixes
    I just installed database 10g (10.1.0) in order to have a 10g (10.1) database (ORCL1) as required by Oracle Warehouse builder and other business intelligrence products like disoverer (from discoverer suite) and Portal 10g (9.0.4)
    during installation of 10g database I got following messages
    ==>Oracle Cluster Registry failed to initialize (in french) and went on
    ==>error when starting OracleCsservice
    i retried and went on.
    Install finishes correctly
    I can access the new database (type warehouse) with sqlplus in a dos window
    However I can't reach it through SQL*Plus of oracle 10g database and get ORA-12500 TNSLISTENER failed to start a dedicated server process message
    OracleCSService starting
    OracleDBConsoleORCL1 started
    OracleINFRASControl started
    OracleINFRAprocessManager started

    OraclePORTALBIASontrol Started
    OraclePORTALBIProcessManager Started
    OracleServiceASDB Started
    OracleServiceORCL1 Started
    ...... other databases.....
    I only have one LISTENER service (the one that was created for INFRAstructure instance) is it OK ?
    All other databases instances I am using where created from INFRA DBCA. and all defined with a dedicated server.
    I tried to define it through DBCA of Oracle database
    left dedicated server and finish
    won't work DBCA refuses
    I also tried to Stop/start OracleServiceOrcl1 but it won't stop
    database ORCL1 is unreachable from other instances:
    from Oracle WareHouse Builder's Enterprise Manager console I get the same ORA-12500 message
    same with Oracle Net Configuration Assistant of
    Oracle Developer Suite Net assistant
    What's wrong,
    is one listener enough? is there a bug in the product?..
    I read quite a few enties but didnt get the answer to my problem

    Hello Werner,
    What means error 1058?
    i posted an entry in application server
    Listener.ora and tsnames .ora where updated on INFRAstructure instance to be nearly identical to 10g DB instance (diference is one db definition)
    However starting infrastructure and portal instances has become erratic and error prone:u
    It takes about 20 minutes to start these two instances by hand has before i had only to start them and everything went smoothly (but took also a long time).
    Now i get the following messages and have to use following opmnctl commands to have the whole thing running as follows:
    ==> start INFRASTRUCTURE
    lancement de tnslsnr: veuillez patientez...
    failed to start service, error 1058 ==> new message

  • HTTP Server fails to starts during E-Business installation

    Hello All,
    I am having issues installing e-business suite 12.1.1 on Oracle Linux 6.2.
    I have applied all the correct packages (and a couple that were not listed in the installation instructions), applied required patches, upgraded the startCD version to the latest, run the md5sum checks on the Stage directory, and a bunch of manual stuff which it doesn't tell you to do in the installation notes, but you have to do to make it work, e.g. linking unzip 5.x from the startCD to /usr/bin/unzip. I thought that I had it cracked until it failed at the last HTTP Server checks.
    I have attempted to restart services manually but it appears as though the HTTP server cannot start due to a missing library libdb-4.3.so:
    HTTP_Server~1.log
    */u01/applR12/inst/apps/<SID>_<HOST>/ora/10.1.3/Apache/Apache/bin/apachectl startssl: execing httpd*
    */u01/applR12/apps/tech_st/10.1.3/Apache/Apache/bin/httpd: error while loading shared libraries: libdb-4.3.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory*
    There was another post where a similar issue was resolved in a OEL 5 x86.x64 install by applying a i383 gdbm package, and linking the existing library as the document id which you posted suggested.
    This package cannot be applied, as I have attempted.
    I then started to look for the library which is reported in the logs as being missing, i.e. libdb-4.3.so. This does not appear to exist for OEL 6.
    I then looked further afield and found a Centos 6.2 rpm which contained this library. I extracted this and linked it to the libdb.so.2 (patch 6078836).
    I am getting the following from the adstrtal.log (I ran the cat command as root not adstrtal.sh which I ran as the application user):
    *# cat /u01/applR12/inst/apps/<SID>_<HOST>/logs/appl/admin/log/adstrtal.log | grep Failed*

    Web Application Services FORMS OC4J Instance <SID>_<HOST> adformsctl.sh Failed
    Web Application Services OAFM OC4J Instance <SID>_<HOST> adoafmctl.sh Failed
    This is different to what I was seeing previously where all a 4 Web Application Services had failed

    I have attempted to restart opmn using adopmnctl.sh, which was unsuccessful. Looking at the HTTP_Server~1.log I can see the following the error:

    I am not able to look at the /u01/applR12/apps/tech_st/10.1.3/Apache/Apache/libexec/mod_ossl.so.
    I do not know where else to go with this now. Any guidance which you could provide would be very much appreciated.

    Hello Hussein,
    Thank you for getting back to me! As per the installation instructions it states the following:
    # cd /usr/lib
    # ln -s libdb-4.7.so libdb-4.3.so
    However there is no libdb-4.7.so library there to link to.
    I have installed the db4 i686 & x86_64 packages which contain this library, then performed the above. I then ran the adstrtal.sh command which completed without incident.
    As such the Required Packages in the installation instructions should be updated to include the following:
    db4.i686
    db4-devel.i686
    db4.x86_64
    db4-devel.x86_64

  • App Server Fails to Start after Installation

    Hi,
    I've spent a whole day struggling with this, looking through forum discussions and trying out every single suggestion I've come across in the forums. I'm running out of ideas now and really appreciate any help I can get with this problem.
    I'm trying to install SJSC2 (also tried with SJSC2u1 with the same outcome) on a new HP notebook (nw9440) running WinXP_sp2. I'm using the default installation done by HP.
    My installation path is C:\Java\SunCreator2 (C:\Java\SunCreator2_1 for update 1).
    After the installation the App server fails to start up and gives the below error in the server.log.
    # An unexpected error has been detected by HotSpot Virtual Machine:

    I've tried every workaround I've seen in the forums such as installing under different paths (both with spaces and without spaces), cleaning all the temporary files in the Temp directory, renaming the productregistry in the windows system directory. Each time I get the exact same error in the install.log.
    I also tried installing the stand alone SUN App Server 8.1_02_2005Q2 as well as 8.2. I don't seem to have any issue with this installation or running of the stand alone server at all on the same machine.
    Really appreciate any help I can get. TIA....

    Hi,
    After spending more time looking through the forum, I came across the below thread which has worked in my case (though it was suggested for Sol10x86).
    http://forum.sun.com/jive/thread.jspa?threadID=62404&messageID=243113
    This is the workaround that worked in my case.
    > $ cd <Creator_Home>/SunAppServer8/lib
    $ mv processLauncher.xml processLauncher.xml.trayIcon
    $ cp processLauncher.xml.bak processLauncher.xml
    # If you have a domains/creator/config/domain.xml
    $ cd ../bin
    $ ./asadmin start-domain creator
    This started the app server. After that I was able to start and stop app server within the JSC as well.
    Only difference between these two xml files seem to be,
    processLauncher.xml.trayicon
    <main_class classname="com.sun.rave.tray.RavePEMain"/>
    processLauncher.xml
    <main_class classname="com.sun.enterprise.server.PEMain"/>
    Possibly pointing to a bug in the "com.sun.rave.tray.RavePEMain" class.
    Thanks for your suggestions guys... and especially to Marco and Greg.
    Rgds,

  • KMS Server Failed to Start

    Hi All.
    I have a 2008 R2 server that has been my active KMS server for a couple of years now.  Activates my workstations and office.  Just recently I noticed some licensing problems with new builds and traced it back to the KMS server service is not running.
    The event log shows event ID 12291  Key Management Service (KMS) Failed to start.  I've tried rebooting, restarting the software protection service and this event will not show up until I try using slmgr.vbs to view status.  I can't find anything
    to help me troubleshoot.  No changes recently on the server.  The only thing I noticed was a problem pulling updates from our WSUS server including some .NET 4 updates.  So I updated from windows update, but that didn't help either.  Any
    thought on where to look next?

  • Failed to start dependent service com.sap.portal.usermapping

    Hi
    I am trying to retrieve the User mapping information from my Webdynpro application. I added PORTAL:sap.com/com.sap.portal.usermapping to my service references in the web dynpro application. However, I am getting an error while deploying the application. The error message says
    Failed to start dependent service ''com.sap.portal.usermapping'' of application ''local/materialtemplateapp''. Status of dependent component:  STATUS_MISSING. Hint: Is the component deployed correctly on the engine?
    I know this is a pretty old problem that many other Web Dynpro developers encountered. I searched a lot on the forums and SDN. There are similar posts but I didn't find solution. I would appreciate any help in fixing this problem.
    Thanks

    Hi,
    Goto http://<servername>:<port>/webdynpro/welcome-->content Adminsitration
    Now, expand sap.com and search for the usermapping service. Check what is the status of that particular service. If its in the stopped state then start it and try redeploying your application.
