FAILED INSTALLATION OF ITUNES 7 & ITUNES 6

i've been reading the threads on problems installing iTunes v7 and it seems the common fix is to to do this:
Go to HD>Library>Receipts> and remove the "iTunesX.pkg" to the trash. Then reinstall iTunes.
Well this didnt work for me and the installer replied with:
"you cannot install itunes on this volume.you are not allowed to install the software on this volume for an unknown reason".
and so i went on to delete the itunes application itself (version 7.0), 2 more itunes related files in the receipts folder and the following files:
com.apple.iTunes.eq.plist
com.apple.iTunes.plist
com.apple.iTunesHelper.plist
com.apple.iTunes.xxxxxxxxxxxx.plist (inside the Byhost folder in the Preferences folder)
/Library/iTunes/iTunes Plug-ins (usable by any account)
/Users/Username/Library/iTunes/iTunes/iTunes Plug-ins
i kept my itunes folder containing the XML file, itunes music and itunes library file. I even renamed them and moved them out of the music folder and into the desktop.
Each time I expand the "itunes.mkpg" file, it responds with a red explanation on my HD icon and still says:
"you cannot install itunes on this volume.you are not allowed to install the software on this volume for an unknown reason".
This is the same response when i use itunes installers for version 6 AND 7. i've ran disk aid to repair permissions before each attempt to install itunes. im using the latest version for QT too. so im really out of ideas at this point.
anybody experiencing the same thing? Thanks
Sincerely,
-BT

this is what i did step by step:
1. Booted from installer disc 1, ran disk utility to repair permissions
2. after permissions were repaired, ejected the insaller disc 1 and
restarted computer (this time booted from the system OS)
3. downloaded the dmg file from apple website, double click dmg file and it mounted it on the desktop. double click the itunes.mkpg file to begin installation.
4. clicked "agree" to the terms and all that crap, clicked "continue" and VIOLA! the installer respsonse is still the same : "you cannot install itunes on this volume.you are not allowed to install the software on this volume for an unknown reason" complete with the red "!" mark on my HD icon within the installer application.
Remember, im not even trying to overwrite any existing itunes application.i've already completely deleted the older version of itunes from my system with the itunes reciept files, prefs and itunes library. in other words, there's not a trace of itunes in my computer anymore. im just trying to do a clean install at this point...

During the installation of Itunes I get the following error:  Service 'Apple Mobile Device' (Apple Mobile Device) failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privledges to start system service.   I then have three buttons abort, retry and ignore.  I have hit each button once and got no good results.

    Chaps and chapesses,
I too was having the same problem when I tried to update and then unfortunately uninstall and re-install itunes. But, like Nige above me says, you need to uninstall all your Apple software and then re-install itunes.
Have a look at the response given to this forum post:
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5819470?tstart=0
I did exactly as the turingtest2 said:
I removed all of these items in the following order:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
    Apple Mobile Device Support
    Bonjour
    Apple Application Support
Then I restarted my computer, and the install of itunes worked like a dream. None of this ignore, abort, cancel nonsense.
Hopefully all your respective versions of itunes will work soon. Cheers Nigel280

  • How to install iTunes - failed installation

Before another problem occurred, I had iTunes installed and running. Afterward I had to re-install some other programs and iTunes and Quicktime, too. However, when I tried to reinstall iTunes and Quicktime (several different times, too), I had the installation to stop and this message appeared - ["Installation failed. Reinstall iTunes again. Error Code: -3"]
However, an icon for iTunes and Quicktime had been placed on the desktop but when they were clicked, this message appeared:["Failed to initialize Error Code: #634443]
I have tried both to update and to install stand alone programs. Also, I tried removing each only to have the message that they could not be removed because some files were missing.
Can you help me get iTunes and Quicktime installed and running? Thanks.

    hi VRS!
However, an icon for iTunes and Quicktime had been placed on the desktop but when they were clicked, this message appeared:["Failed to initialize Error Code: #634443]
i'm following up on some weird (and rare) possibilities with the messages you're receiving.
did the original problem (that caused the reinstallation of itunes and the other program) involve or result in any major changes to the Registry on your PC?
do you have more than one user account on that PC? if so, go into the other user accounts and try to launch itunes and QT. (don't try any installs at the moment.)
do you find that there's one account in which you can get itunes/QT to launch, but in the others you can't?
    love, b

  • HT1925 After failed update of itunes yesterday, now will not run with error message "MSVCR80.dll can't be found, APSDaemon.exe not running".  Windows 7.

After failed update of itunes yesterday, now will not run with error message "MSVCR80.dll not found" APSDaemon.exe will not run.  itunes will not now run.

Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall move on to the next item)
    Bonjour
    Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.
    Please note:
Some users may need to follow all the steps in whichever of the following support documents applies to their system. These include some additional manual file and folder deletions not mentioned above.

  • Syncing iPod to a new installation of iTunes while retaining Play Count

I have an iPod nano that I use in my baby's nursery for her lullaby music. I thought it would be cool to use the Audioscrobbler program from www.last.fm to track her "listening habits" from this very early age and be able to see years down the road what she has listened to over time.
The thing is, I originally synced the iPod with mp3 files from my installation of iTunes. I also have my own Last.fm profile that already syncs with iTunes files played on this profile. I realized that if I sync her Nano with this same instance of iTunes, it will combine all of her Play Counts with my own history. I don't want to confuse the Last.fm "scrobbler" system tray program with which play counts should be scrobbled.
I know I could create another profile for her on this same computer, but I thought it might be even easier to just sync it with iTunes on my laptop (which doesn't have any iPods associated with it yet.) Either way, it will not be the exact same installation of iTunes that the Nano was originally synced with. HOWEVER, my mp3 files are on a shared network-attached storage hard drive, so all of the iTunes installations (on both the desktop and laptop) would be reading the exact same files.
SO - the jist of my questions is this:
1.) If my iTunes library reads from M:/My Music/ (NAS drive), will the Nano see a different installation of iTunes as the same library?
2.) If I sync her Nano with a different installation of iTunes, will it record the Play Counts of what she has already listened to? * This is my most important question. I don't care if it erases the files on the Nano, because I will just sync them again. I just want to make sure it records in iTunes the current Play Count stored on her Nano right now, so I can sync it with her Last.fm profile.
Thanks in advance! I asked about this on the Last.fm forums, and they advised me to ask over here instead since it has more to do with iTunes and syncing.
    - Holly

    Katrina, Thanks for the link.
Ahhh... yes, current playcounts ARE kind of important. I've been holding out on syncing it since March because I was trying to figure this out and get information on the best way to do it. That's 7+/- hours of music per night X 4 months! Is there a way to read what the playcounts currently are on the iPod itself right now? If all else fails, I could manually adjust them in the empty XML file, right?
I think if I can get the iTunes on my laptop to read and record the playcounts from the iPod, then I can sync the Last.fm process to read it later. I can use their new "import history" feature to import the playcounts. I just need to make sure that I can get iTunes to record them instead of wiping the iPod.
I've read up on manually managing the iPod... would that help any?
Since my music files are on a shared network drive, can I copy either of those two metadata files (iTunes Music Library.xml and/or iTunes Library.itl) from my desktop to my laptop and then hand modify the XML code to change all playcounts to zero and then sync the iPod? Will that fake the laptop out to believe it was the original computer that the iPod was first synced with?
And no on the operating systems My desktop is Vista Home Premium and the laptop is XP Home.
    THANKS FOR YOUR HELP!!!! :-D

Check if your system is free of Malware.
Start your computer in "Safe mode with networking", go to CNET's download.com to download a free version of Malwarebyte. Install and perform update immediately, then do a full SCAN. Remove malware if it indeed finds any. Restart computer to regular windows to let Malwarebyte complete the removal.
To start your computer in safe mode
Remove all floppy disks, CDs, and DVDs from your computer, and then restart your computer. Click the Start button , click the arrow next to the Shut Down button , and then click Restart.
    Do one of the following:
If your computer has a single operating system installed, press and hold the F8 key as your computer restarts. You need to press F8 before the Windows logo appears. If the Windows logo appears, you'll need to try again by waiting until the Windows logon prompt appears, and then shutting down and restarting your computer.
If your computer has more than one operating system, use the arrow keys to highlight the operating system you want to start in safe mode, and then press F8.
On the Advanced Boot Options screen, use the arrow keys to highlight the "safe mode with networking" option, and then press Enter. For more information about options, see Advanced startup options (including safe mode).
Log on to your computer with a user account that has administrator rights.
When your computer is in safe mode, you'll see the words Safe Mode in the corners of your screen. To exit safe mode, restart your computer and let Windows start normally.

These ones are typically caused by underlying problems on the PC that also often cause Windows Updates to fail to install. If we can fix the Windows Update trouble, we can usually get the iTunes trouble cleaned up en passant.
Go into your Windows update and try to check for new updates. If updates install, stock up on the ones you're behind on, restarting the PC if requested to do so. After the restart, try installing iTunes again. Does it go through this time for you?
If windows updates fail to install, go into your Update History and doubleclick the failures. What alphanumeric codes appear for you? Are they also 80070BC9, or some other number? (If they're another number, what number are you getting?)

I have itunes directory on an external hard drive and want to direct a new installation of itunes on windows 8 to use it. I tried holding down ctrl and clicking itunes and after many tries got it to work one time. When I went back in later it had reverted back to a blank version of itunes and I cant get ctrl to work again. Any other ideas?

This is sometimes caused by a problem with the iTunesPrefs.xml file, normally found at C:\Users\<User>\AppData\Local\Apple Computer\iTunes\iTunesPrefs.xml. Try dragging this to the desktop and trying again.
Alternatively the problem may be that you have McAfee AV and it is preventing iTunes from updating the same file and thus causing the problem. See Why does iTunes delete my itunesprefs.xml? for details.

i am trying to install itunes 10.5 but I get an error message that says "click ok to try again or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package iTunes.msi..." I try to point iTunes to the .msi file on my c drive but then it gives me  a message says "the file location is not a valid installation packaage for the product iTuness.  Try to find the installation package 'itunes.msi' in a folder from which you can install iTunes".  Any help, insight, guidance would be greatly appreciated!!

"The feature you are trying to use in on a network resource that is unavailable. Enter alternate path to a folder containing the installation package itunes64.msi".
Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from the following page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
To install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:

Unfortunately, this sort of trouble has gotten more complicated to deal with ever since Microsoft pulled the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from their Download Center on June 25. First we have to find a copy of the utility.
Let's try Googling. (Best not to use Bing, I think.) Look for a working download site for at least version 3.0 of the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (The results from mydigitallife and Major Geeks are worth checking.)
After downloading the utility installer file (msicuu2.exe), scan the file for malware, just in case. (I use the free version of Malwarebytes AntiMalware to do single-file scans for that.)
If the file is clean, to install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you've downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove".
Quit out of CleanUp. Restart the PC, and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

  • After trying to run the iTunes automatic update, I got this "The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable." Click OK to try again,or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package 'itunes.msi"

After trying to run the iTunes automatic update, I got this box on my pc "The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable. Click OK to try again, or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package 'iTunes.msi" in the box below.. I ran a search for the file, and entered that into the box, to no avail. Then I launched iTunes and clicked on 'check for updates', and was told I had the latest version 11.0.1 I think it is. So, any clue on what to do? Thanks for any and all help.

    (1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
    (2) Doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (If you're on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 system and you get a Code 800A0046 error message when doubleclicking the msicuu2.exe file, try instead right-clicking on the msicuu2.exe file and selecting "Run as administrator".)
    (3) In your Start menu click All Programs and then click Windows Install Clean Up. The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.
    (4) In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:

I have the same problem - it is maddening. I rely on this iPad for work so this is not just an annoyance! The above solutions of changing the appleid on the device or on the website do not work.
The old email address no longer exists - I haven't used it in a year probably and I no longer have the account.  I logged into the appleid website and there is no trace of the old email address so there is nothing that can be deleted or changed there.  On the iPad there is no trace of the old email address so nothing can be deleted there either. I have updated the iPad software and the same problem comes right back.  Every 2 seconds I am asked to log in using the old non-existent email.  The device is currently useless.
The only recent change to anything was the addition of an Apple TV device, which was set up using the correct login and password.
Does anyone have any ideas? The iPad has been backed up to the iCloud so presumably it now won't recognize the current iCloud account? So restoring may notbe an option?

  • How may I eliminate all of iTunes from Windows XP Home Edition before making a "clean" installation of iTunes?

Hello.  I found that in Windows XP Home Edition that I had two subdirectories of iTunes: C:\Program Files\iTunes and C:\Program Files\iTunes(2).  I assume this situation has arisen by me not properly updating iTunes in the past.  When it came time to update iTunes from one of the version 10.3s to version 10.4 of iTunes, I tried to do something about the pair of iTunes subdirectories.  Via Start, Control Panel, and Add or Remove Programs I "Remove"d the only listing of iTunes; that is iTunes(2) was not listed there.  But afterwards C:\Program Files\iTunes(2) still existed, as viewed in the program Windows Explorer.  Next while offline I installed iTunes10.4 by running the downloaded file iTunesSetup(4).exe in my case.  I chose C:\Program Files\iTunes(2) as the directory for installation.  Next I uninstalled iTunes via Add or Revmove Programs.  The directory C:\Program Files\iTunes(2) then still existed.  I need an iTunes cleanup utility, if there is one, or else a way to eliminate all vestiges of iTunes, including registry entries, from my Windows XP Home Edition.  [I think this situation is the opposite of a situation in which the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility (WICU) would apply.  I think the WICU is useful when a program is visible by name in the Windows Add or Remove Programs list, but can't be removed by clicking on "Remove" in that list.]  [I also noticed the directory C:\Program Files\iPod(2).  Is that directory associated with iTunes(2)?]  After that I would hope that a fresh offline installation of iTunes 10.4 to my computer's hard-disk drive would result in only C:\Program Files\iTunes among iTunes subdirectories in C:\Program Files when viewed in Windows Explorer.  Please inform me how to reach this goal.  Thanks.

I'd also dig down into where your home user account holds temp files, as well as application preferences and support. I just know Vista began using \myaccount\AppData and multiple locations under there.
Apple leaves behind every past installer cache, support (imporant to get rid of that also).
The first thing I do (no iPod etc) is uninstall Bonjour and disable iPod and MobileMe.
Windows Uninstaller Cleanup Utility also use to be a must for stubborn "partially installed" apps.
When you are done, CCleaner and Registry.
Another place to clean is %TEMP% (may be different in XP).
