Failed my Java 2 Programmer certification by one QUESTION!!!

Hi there ppl,
now that I'm over feeling sorry for myself for failing my exam by ONE QUESTION lol, I would like to get some feedback (WITHOUT BREAKING THE SUN AGREEMENT) from others that have also taken this exam and whether or not you failed or passed, how you found the exam, and more importantly what did you find the best certification book to use and/or methodolgy for preparation? I've been using the Sybex Java 2 Programmer cert exam book (1.4 edition), but did find quite a contrast between the simplicity of the mock exams (of which I scored 74%, 82%, 82% and 88% through the numerous exams supplied with the book) and the complexity of the actual exam questions. I know this is due to my lack of experience and being self taught but I'm determined to pass this exam next and would happily buy another book to help me achieve this.
Any feedback would be much appreciated.

Was it the 1.4 exam you took? The reason I ask is that there's no java.io required for the 1.4 cert exam, which means that the exam should even be easier. lol. Doesn't make me feel any better, but I really don't want to fail this exam again. Yes I've failed before but I basically screwed up the whole thing as I was thrown off by this "true reflection thang" from these mocks to the real thing. I have to say that even on the second time around I still found it confusing. Generally I should know enough to get around 60-65% on a bad day regarding the real exam, but the way its structured and laid out in the exam is like walking into another dimension for me. I guess you're right when you say just focus on taking more mocks, improve wherever my weaknesses may be. I really just don't wanna feel like I did walking out of a 2 hour exam after a week of revising for it, feeling drained and with my head in the gutter and of course �240 worse off!!! lmao.
Thanks for the advice mate. I'd better pass this next time or I don't think I could go through with all this again.

Constructing literals is ten, hex, and oct/Java Certified Programmer

One of the objectives in the Java Certified Programmer Exam includes constructing numeric literals in base ten, hexadecimal and octal forms. I What is tested exactly - a syntax or an ability to identify a literal in different formats (for example decimal literal in octal form). Is there a dec/hex/oct conversion table ?

From what I remember it's primarily the syntax of how to declare integers in the three bases, but you should know how to perform simple conversions. e.g. 0x1A = 26 = 032 = 00011010 (hex, base 10, octal, binary).

Am I ready for Programmer Certification

Hi, I've been studying for the Java2 Programmer Certification exam for about 1 month. I read Robert's book twice, yet when I took his practice exams on the cd for the book I only scored around 70% to 75%. Should I take the exam with this score on mock exams? Also, do employers check your exam score or do they just accept that you are certified?

Well if the person you are interviewing has no prior(on the job) programming experience then obviously he does not not have enough practical Java experience to be useful, but i think he is not trying to hide behind a "test score".

Why would you say that? If you have held proir programming positions with past companies why would obtaining a certification be detrimental to a prospect of possibly being hired?
Look at most of the people comming fresh out of collage with a computer science degree who had fortran and Pascal, and every other dead language under the sun. To me they are worthless. "Jack of all trades master of none"

XML Publisher report failing with java.lang.outofmemoryerror.

We have developed a custom Oracle report that produces an XML output file that is about 13M in size (about 18K rows from the database). When running report as concurrent request, post processing fails with java.lang.outofmemoryerror. The failure occurs when specifying output format as Excel, RTF or HTML. However, the process completes successfully when specifying output format as PDF. We have also noticed that Excel, RTF and HTML will complete successfully if the XML data file is smaller (around 3M).
Is anyone aware of a restriction on the size of the XML data file when specifying output formats Excel, RTF or HTML? We have tried setting temp directory but that has not helped.

2. Navigate to Concurrent > Program > Define.
3. Query for concurrent program that is receiving the error.
4. In the 'Options' field please enter -Xmx512M.
5. Save the change and retest the issue.
6. If the report still fails with the option set to -Xmx512M change the value to -Xmx1024M, save and try again
7. Migrate the solution as appropriate to other environments.

Hi all. I can’t tell you how to solve your iCloud 3.x issues. Heck, I don’t think they’re even solvable.
But if you had a previous version of iCloud that was working correctly then I can definitely tell you how to solve the “iCloud Photo Stream is not syncing correctly to my Windows 7 PC” problem. …without even a re-boot.
Log out of iCloud 3.0 and uninstall it.
Open My Computer and then open your C:\ drive. Go to Tools/Folder Options and click on the View tab. Select the “Show hidden…” radio button and click on OK.
Open the Users folder.
Open your user folder
Open ProgramData (previously hidden folder)
Open the Apple folder – not the Apple Computer folder.
Open the Installer Cache folder
In Details view sort on Name
Open the folder for the newest entry for iCloud Control Panel 2.x – probably 2.1.2.8 dated 4/25/2013
Right click on iCloud64.msi and select Install.
When finished, the synching between iCloud and your PC will be back to working perfectly as before the 3.0 fiasco. The pictures will be synched to the same Photostream folder as before the “upgrade”. Now all you need to do is wait until Apple/Microsoft get this thing fixed and working before you try the 3.x upgrade again.
I think the iCloud 3.0 software was written by the same folks who wrote healthcare.gov with the main difference being that healthcare.gov might eventually be made to work.
For those of you who hate to go backwards, think of it as attacking to the rear. Which would you rather have, the frustration of no synching or everything working on an older version?

I´m reading and sending files to an FTP server using SAP PI. I use file content conversion.
Everything has been working fine for months - but now the server was changes to a new host. The only thing changed was the host/user and pass.
But sending too the server fails with this error:
File processing failed with java.lang.StringIndexOutOfBoundsException: String index out of range: -27
Any body who has a clue??
Reading files works ok. And i can transfer files to the FTP server with FileZilla without problems.

In the file transfer by ftp:

I am implementing file2file with file going from shared folder to FTPS server.
I am using TLS and X.509 certificate in file receiver communication channel.
when I implemented my scenario, this is the error its throwing :
Success : Connect to FTP server "my ftp address", directory "/TEST/"
Error : Attempt to process file failed with java.lang.StringIndexOutOfBoundsException: String index out of range: 3
I know this error is caused when java expects the 3 character length string and if its getting more than that... Does any faced this kindaa problem before...Any help is greatly appreciated....Obviously even points....

There is no custom code at all? No mappings, no custom modules, no pre/post processing commands?
Also, check if you get this error when sending to ftps server without certificate (or with another certificate). It may be an incompatibility issue with certificate.
Did you import the .pfx (or .p12) file in KeyStorage Service?

If you are using FTP then,
1. Make sure that the FTP sever does not have issues with Firewall or a Proxy server access.
2. Also verify that the specified FTP user ID has the necessary WRITE or overwrite authorization?

I too am getting this message. I have been using my iPad for two years with no problems but a couple of days ago I starting having this problem intermittently. I have restarted the iPad when that did not work I deleted the account and reloaded it. Nothing seems to work. I was having the same problem on my iPhone but that seems to be OK today. Any other ideas?

"ASSERT FAILED" when java.exe ends

What kind of error message is this:
ASSERT FAILED:
Executable: java.exe PID 218 Tid b04 Module kswdmcap.ax, 4 objects left active at line blablablablabla
This happens when my java class ends from where I called a c++ method (that controls the windows media encoder sdk). It return without an error message from the c++ part, but when java.exe tries to end the class does this error message appear on the screen (Windows XP). Does anybody have a clue what that might be?

I wouldn't say problem.
Presumably the library you call does something. While doing that it creates "resources" of some sort. It could be a socket. Or a memory allocation. Or something else.
But it expects you to tell it when you are done. Either with the library or with some specific aspect of the library. And you are not doing that before you exit.
Keep in mind that I am only guessing. There could certainly be other explainations - like a bug in the library.
