Failed recordings on BBC4

I have  BT youview box model T2110 and I've noticed i'm getting intermittent "Recording failed" when i try to record some BBC4 programs. Anyone any idea what the problem may be?
Thanks
Tony

PS Incidentally I rangBT Support about another issue (gettingBT Sport on theYouView box) and they told me there was no way I could have bought aBT box fromCurrys but theYouView box has theBT logo on it and the packaging is allBT!
I thought the DTR-T2110 was only available through retail stores and BT issued the DTR-T2100.
See these pics
It is in theory possible to get BT Sport on a retail box, though not for free.
See  BT Player on Youview
However, if you read the terms there is no advantage to doing it that way. It still costs the same as full BT TV and is more limited in options. You are better off signing up to BT TV and getting a new box issued to you.

  • Failed recordings on BBC3 HD and BBC4 HD

    Hi
I don't watch too much of BBC 3 and BBC 4 but have spotted some good stuff recently.  A couple of weeks ago I set to record a prog. from BBC 3HD which it duly went about (banner graphic at top of screen saying it was) when I came to watch the recording, it had recording failed in the menu with an exclamation mark in a triangle. I didn't think too much of it thinking I had done something wrong (low self esteem!!)
Then the other night I set to record "Life of Rock" (brilliant by the way) which again it told me it was doing so and I could see it in my recordings with the red "R"
I came to watch it back and again recording failed.
I have no problem watching these channels.
    I get no clash warnings.
    The box starts to record.
I can see it being recorded.
All my efforts to record something from these 2 HD channels report a failed recording.
    Any clues anyone?
    Thanks in advance

Not sure i have tried recording those channels on my Youview box so I can only give you experience of failures with a different PVR.
I have have a different Humax PVR that experienced some recording failures on the new BBC HD channels last month.
Trying hard to remember what I did to get around the problem.
I believe the trigger to the problem starting was probably when the channels were (re)tuned.  If I did the retune before 7pm before BBC3/4 HD was broadcasting I believe that there were issues on recording them  successfully from the EPG. They could be watched live though. The CBBC/CBeebies HD channels which share the transmission slots and were broadcasting at the time morning) I did the retune recorded OK from the EPG. If a (re)tune was done after 7pm when BBC3/4 HD was broadcasting I believe the situation was reversed whereby the BBC 3/4 Hd would successfully record off the EPG but the CBBC/CBeebies HD would fail.
Now the hard bit ... how did I overcome the problem .... well it either went away (transmission or EPG fix) or some of the things I did cured it.
What I would have done is having retuned I tried a direct record whilst watching a programme on say CBBC during the day and repeating the process with a BBC 4 HD later in the evening.
What I can say is that on my Humax PVR the failed recordings actually were made and recorded to disc but that one of the control files was empty or missing resulting in the PVR considering it a failed recording and won't play it.
Don't know if my experiences are related to your Youview problems

  • BT YouView failed recordings

Hi - I have the new style BT box (received Sept 2014) and after finally getting past the "short recordings" debacle, the box has a new problem - it has decided not to record some programs at all.
I set recordings via the guide, but after the recording should have started there is no Red light on the front of the box and no recording shows in the "recordings" library.
I have done a full reset (recordings retained, but everyhting else wiped) but it is still happening.
Does anyone have any ideas to help me ?
    Many thanks

Hi Zulu17 - there seems to be no pattern at all. Most of the channels I watch are Freeview HD, some failed recordings are one off and some are series link. I recall failed recordings when the box is in standby and some whilst I am watching other channels.
I cannot be more precise than this - after months of failed recordings due to the previous software issues I am amazed that this PVR is faltering again. I am confident I am not doing anything wrong myself - I have used PVRs for years without issue (until now) and I cannot understand how, if I book a recording via the guide, the box doesn't actually make the recording !
    Yet another software issue ?

  • Failed recordings - IP channel - IPC6023

G4, software up to date. Connected with ethernet cable, high eco mode when not in use.
My last 12 attempts at recording channel 420 Universal (Law and Order series record) have resulted in 2 successes and 10 failed recordings. Law and order SVU recordings on the same channel have much the same success rate.
I noticed it was recording tonight so decided to have a look. As luck would have it after I powered it up it was on channel 420 but there was no picture (Red record light on) No amount of button pressing would get channel 420 working but the IP channel above and below it on the listing worked, as did BT Sports channels. Each time 420 displayed the error code IPC6023. Eventually after a couple of minutes and many attempts it decided to work and although I stopped the recording manually (As I wanted to do a line speed check) it recorded the final 14 mins of the program. I've checked error code 6023 and everything my end should be ok.
BT speed test and speedtest.net both report connection speed is 21.5 Mbps.

I'm going to test random recordings over different IP channels as a test, I have had other failures but I swear Universal seems to be jinxed!
    Any ideas? Thanks.

As zulu says if your software version is 17.3 then the recording of internet channels is a disaster zone. Patience while they sort out the bug in the latest software for the G4 is really the only solution.

  • Failed recordings/recordings that pixellate

I have BT Infinity and the TV package with the on-demand service. I am so disappointed with it compared with Sky, as I am continually having failed recordings or recordings that pixellate and break up. I also find frequently that it can't find the on-demand programmes and tells me to try again later.
Has anyone solved this, please? It was never flagged up by BT as a potential problem when I signed up.

In terms if recordings this points clearly to an aerial issue.
As far as On Demand goes - how are you connected ?

  • Failed recordings on older box and Freeview channe...

For the past couple of days our YouView box has failed to record every single scheduled recording.  Some record partially, missing the start or the end (or both - sometimes only recording a few minutes).  Others don't record at all.  This started on the 2nd of July and before that we had never had a failed recording as far as I rememeber.
I've been searching this forum and found a lot of threads about similar problems, but all seem to refer to the new G4 boxes and/or the internet channels.  We have an older BT YouView box (Humax DTR-T1000?) and don't have the internet channels in our package - all recordings are from Freeview and Freeview HD channels.
None of the recordings conflicted, there were no other recordings at the same time.  We have a good signal and fast internet connection.  The hard disk is showing 93% free space.
I don't know if it's a coincidence, but around the same time the BT Vision player became very slow, to the point you have to wait several seconds for it to respond to the remote.  There was also an incident where the box claimed to have no internet connection despite everything else on the network being able to access the internet fine.  A reboot sorted that out.
What could have caused the box to start failing all it's recordings and how can it be fixed?
    Manufacturer software: 18.3.0
    Component software: 2.5.6
    Platform configuration: 1017
    ISP configuration: 220

Well, looks like the fix was only temporary.  It behaved until last night, when it failed to record every single scheduled recording again.
The above linked page was interesting (thanks) and it sounds as though high eco mode helps due to the box rebooting more.  However, we have to reboot and power cycle the box pretty regularly anyway due to the slowdowns and lockups, and the two minute startup time for high eco is just frustrating (plus you can't use the Android app).
To be honest I'm getting really sick of a box that has to be constantly rebooted and reset just to keep it working properly, and now can no longer be relied on to record our shows.  Would the new G4 box be any better?  What do you think are our chances of getting BT to replace it?

  • Failed recordings - g4 box - when are we getting a...

Another weekend, and another failed recording. Getting quite annoyed by it now.
Moto gp p4 - success (wasnt going to watch, just part of the series link)
    Fa cup - success
    Moto gp qualifying - failed
I left my box on itv 2, to avoid any results being leaked when i switched on box.
Is it series link that is the problem? Think i will be doing individual recordings from now on to see if that fixes it.

3rd consecutive night that a Syfy Chan fails to record from Series Link on my week-old G4 box - a closer look as I was 'prepared' reveals:-
Internet Channel recording failed: this time I waited for it to get rolling after seeing the recording notification message - but nowt showing in the MyView Page... if you then view the  'live' broadcast it shows up as 'Recording' in the Guide, even tho not on the Recordings list on MyView ... if you chose to 'cancel this episode', it then finally shows as 'failed' in the MyView Page .. you can then record manually - so nowt wrong with my Infinty service...
No overlapping recordings involved ..... I do hope that British EuroSport WSBk recordings today will be fine - doesn’t seem to happen on Terrestrial Channels at all .... (only a Series Link anomaly for them - previously reported)

  • Failed recordings on a new box

I got a new box a fortnight ago and it's started to fail to record a variety of programmes. They're all on major channels such as Channel 5 and BBC1 (which I can watch with good signal any time) and sometimes they record, other times they don't, which suggests it's not a problem with signal. I'm never recording two programmes at once and my box still has 98% available.
Any ideas? It's really frustrating to have to hunt down my favourite programmes on demand when they fail to save the first time round

Unfotunately Youview boxes don't display a reason that a recording failed ... they either have no entry , a parial recording setting or a failed recording setting in the My View list of recorded programms. There are several scenarios whereby a recording could fail so unfortunately there could be many causes.
Which box do you have - the older larger  DTR1000 or the  newer smaller DTR2100 ?
First check that you have the latest software on your box.
Second how are your falied recordings showing in My view - are they listed as failed or simply not there ?
Are the failures all occuring when the box is in standby - if so is the box in High or Low ECo setting - if its in Hi ECo setting in standby do you get any improvement when switching to low ECO mode.

  • Failed recordings

We have an original (Silver) Vision box, We recorded a number of programmes over the Christmas period and are just getting round to watching them.
The problem we have found is that on two occasions (up to now) when we select the recoding to play the menu goes to 'resume playing' and we cannot access the recording.
Both problems have been with films, and in each case when you highlight the title in the recorded programmes list and press for information the recorded length of the programme is as expected (2h 22m. etc.)
Any clues as to what causes this please?
I noticed a 'sticky'about this at the top of the forum but that suggests that the problem was solved months ago by an update.
    Thanks

  • Failed recordings again.

Yet again, check for overnight recordings and blank screen, no sound on every channel. Had to reboot from front panel to get sound and vision restore - None of last nights late recordings or this mornings programme F1 practice are available. We have mentioned before when the box gets confused if programme A ends 8PM programme B overlaps this time and programme C starts is expected at same 8pm. It seems worse when you are watching either channel set up to record and have decided to watch the end later ( or someone else in family may watch programme later)
Our whole family still have no confidence in this box and wish we had recording reliability of the earlier versions. Our son will be away for 2 weeks shortly and is already aware that any chance of getting his programmes recorded and viewable on his return are slim to negligible.
I will now need a list from my son and to check daily for missed requirements, imagine if we were all away for 2 weeks? Not really the Unique Selling Point BT should be aiming for although they have succeeded in our view.

    guilbo wrote:
That's new software. It should ask you what to do if it is being watched and there is an overlap. There may be an issue with timeshifting while it's trying to record 2 programmes as there are only 2 tuners available.
Are you using a signal booster at all?
I'm pretty sure that their is a bug with this as the on screen recordings clash prompt has (for me anyway) either frozen completely, requiring the mains plug to be pulled or been on screen just as we're about to watch something OD, for the OD title to finish and for the recording clash warning message to be still on screen, again a pull of the plug is the only way I've been able to remove this.
Also, there may be a glitch when the box has to automatically switch between several channels to allow for several back to back recordings to continue - the other day it said we were watching ch5+1, when we weren't

  • BT Vision Failed Recordings

    Having a weird recording issue.
    Show: Marley And Me (Film)
    Channel: Channel4
    Date: Siunday 10th July
    Time: 20:00
When you play it, you get a black screen but if you fast forward it, it goes to the standard "Program Finished" box with play again, delete, done, etc.
    Any ideas?
    EDIT: Using standard silver box.

How many programs had you scheduled for recording at the time
either concurrently or consecutively  if it was more than two  this can sometimes cause one program not to record
no trees were harmed in the sending of this message but millions of electrons were terribly inconvenienced

  • Recordings Fail

We seem to have a lot of failed recordings or part recordings for reasons I cannot see.
Firstly, because I don't believe the Vision+ box handles clashes well I'm pretty meticulous at avoiding clashes. But I still manage to get part recordings a lot of the time.
Also, If a recording is due to start after 2 recordings finish, instead of starting recording when it is able to I will often find later that it has failed completely and simply "not bothered" to record anything.
Lastly (and this is a gripe mainly), why is it still necassary to restrict recording or recording/watching two items when you can use the BB channels as well? Surely this doesn't require a tuner as such and I could have two Freeview Channels on the go as well as 1,2,3... BB channnels?
I guess other people have these issues but I'm interested to hear any solutions or things to avoid. I have a fast reliable broadband connection, I've tried switching the Vision+ box off and rebooting, I've also rescanned the channels. I'm not willing to reset the box and lose all my recordings at this point though.

  • Recordings failed

Hello. My dear wife is giving me so much pain at the moment due to the you view box not recording her soaps. It has been happening ever since we received the box from BT back in October, sometimes it will record and sometimes it won't, tonight it didn't record Emerdale. She started to watch it on catch up a few minuits ago and it started to record. Is there any help out there. I have done all updates rescanned for channels. Unplugged from the mains and left, but no change

    Hi,
welcome to the forums - you can post on the failed recordings thread on the youview forums, as this seems to be an issue with quite a few users - it should be noted that retail boxes are also affected by this problem.

  • Publish_ipod fails on create_poster_image

I have been running PcP for most of this summer quarter quite successfully. I record lectures that are a bit less than 45 minutes typically and submit for publishing to a group blog for the course. For some reason, one lecture (and only one) consistently fails. I have resubmitted the lecture after using another program to re-encode the file and trim the ends (so it is shorter). I have also modified the QuickTime parameters of the movie before submitting the file for publication. In all cases it fails with an error
Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSInternalInconsistencyException', reason: 'Error (1002) creating CGSWindow'
with the explanation "Formulating crash report for process qtposterimage".
I have log files for the crash and system, but cannot determine what is wrong with the movie. It was created in the same fashion as others and I have made movies before and after that publish successfully. Any help identifying the next steps would be appreciated.
    Bob

    Greetings:
I am answering my own question on this one. It turns out that the file in question was somehow a malformed QuickTime file. I had created it a number of times from my alternate screen capture program's recording. In all cases it failed. However, after opening in QuickTime (which occurs without problems) and exporting from QuickTime to a movie with settings identical to the opened movie, it works. The file size is smaller however.
I found the source of the problem after looking at the cache files for the failed recordings on the shared file system. In some cases the encoded and saved files did not have the appropriate extensions. This appears to be a problem with only one recording, as a short screen capture with the same program exported a perfectly acceptable file.
I hope this little escapade helps someone else later. I will be following up with the screen capture people to identify the problem if possible.

  • Consecutive recordings failure

i am quite new to the bt youview+ box, but as long term pvr and humax user
my problem is that on the subscribed hd channels i get frequent failed recordings when i set up a series that has two programmes one after the other
every day i record monkey life on animla planet hd, 1600 and 1630, it records the first episode fine and misses the second, the same happened when it was also broadcast at 1200 and 1230. if i try to watch the second episode live the screen alwaysgoes black and a message pops up about channel not being available
it also happens on other subscriptiuon channels. not very often that i record consec things on standard channels so nothing to compare with
    anyone else or just me??
    cheers

On SyFy Sunday afternoon, they were showing a two part mini-seires back to back.
I already know that because BT have no idea of how to test a software release or quality control that using the series record option would cause the second part to fail.
So I though the answer would be to record each episode seperately not using the series link option.
Guess what, that does not work either, causing the second recording to fail
So it would seem that due to complete imcopetence by BT and which ever clowns they employ to write and test their software or release a fix that YouView (or whatever name they are going to call it), that I am just wasting my time trying to use it.
