Failed shut down trouble shooting tips

I have just upgraded my imac to 10.7 and now my imac fails to shut down.
My start up time is about 30ish seconds.  No complaints there.
My shutdown time has gone on for hours (over 8).
I make sure no apps are running
I uncheck re-open windows
I've removed HP IO folders from Library/startupitems (that's all that was in there)
I'm sitting here watching it on the gray screen with the black pinwheel spin and sping.  10 minutes so far.
Yes I've let it index.
How did I install?  I just downloaded it from the Mac Store.  I'm assuming it was not an erase and install.  Is that my only option?  Is there anything else I can try to troubleshoot before I have to kill a day re-installing all my software?  I've spend a few hours searching the support here and haven't seen any specifics.

It's a Fitbit bug, and they acknowledge the problem. Here's their message:

3. Shut down the computer.
Our engineers are working on a long term solution and I will be sending you an update as soon as I hear back from them.

    i tried to reset the printer as you said. it worked. and completely destroyed it.  it keeps asking for the setup cartridges, which i still have, but they're not new ones. which i have found out, is a MUST for the printer to recognise them and start up. since you work for HP is it possible for me ask them to fix this without charge?  i cannot check my warranty because my ORIGINAL problem which i was trying to fix does not allow me to install the driver for the printer and therefore i cannot detect whether my warranty still covers the product. Nor does the the printer allow me to scroll down and check my ID model number in the information menu for some insane reason, so i cannot even check manually....
    ah the terms of use seem to say that i cannot ask them to fix this mess without charge. great.
    do you have any advice?

    Memory Issues:-
    Try running single Module - If it Posts Enter Bios:-
    1) Bios - Cell Menu - Set up Memory Voltage(auto =2.5v) This is to low for many modules, Check the spec for your modules.
    2) Cell Menu - Dram Settings
    3) Memtest86+ Download & create a floppy or cd iinstructions on site. Check each memory module seperately, In different slots (single Channel Moboos). This will isolate any possibly faulty modules. Then check both modules together to check compatability at the timings entered. if a module fails try tweaking the voltage up (within or around manufacturers max.). Slacken memory timings. it's best to have patience here
    If all else fails try using a stick of older memory PC2100 PC2700 to get into Bios & change the settings to suit your modules.

    When you say reset your settings do you mean to factory settings? As my iPod was swapped at the store for a new one and the problem is still there...

    I've tried a lot of the stuff mentioned at that link and elsewhere, modifying host files etc. trying to downgrade my iPhone 4 back to 5.1.1 no luck , apple has locked up 5.1.1 for my phone and iPad . one post said I'm "stuck with iOS 6" darn I should have been more careful. I have the 5.1.1 Ispw on my MacBook its a permissions thing I don't understand. I'll post when I find a way around it and I will . iOS 6 took away most of my AirPlay functionality . to hek with iPhone 5 I'm starting to look at android. big bummer apple

  • My Ipod Nano 5th generation is not being detected by Widows and Itunes. I have tried everything based on the trouble shooting tips outlined. Has anyone had this situation before? How was it resolved. My Ipod is just out of warrenty

    Have done all trouble shooting tech a through Apples and still have not resolved issues on Windows and itunes not detecting my Ipod  nano 5th generation device. Tried restoring the device manually using disk mode and still not being detected by the computer. Device is our of warenty as when service repair charges are $125.00 dolars more than I paid for this device. There must be some way to restore the entire device to factor settings without having to be connected to itunes and Windows. I wish I could connect but again device is not being read. I have another Ipod that is 8GB instaed of 16GB and it works fine. The sad thing about this situation is that my 9year old daughter worked hard doing delivering fliers for a long time to save her money to buy this 16 GB 5th generation Nano. Otherwise the Ipod works well but will not syncronize songs as it is not being detected. Maybe this is a result of corrupt files that got onto my daughters Ipod somehow and thus causing it not the be detwected through the USB connection thus as a result not be understoud as a working device through Windows and itunes. If anyone can help me out there including itune techs that would be well appreciated, but for now my daughter is not able to add new or delete any songs on her ipod as well pictures, and everything.     Try changing the cord. I could NOT get my computer to recognize my iPod 5th Gen until I read somewhere that different apple devices use different cords. I was inadvertently using my iPad cord and that caused my computer to not recognize my ipod.

    This came from another thread, but worked for me.  Problem is with newest iTunes 4.62 and Windows 8.1.  Unistall iTunes, as well as its helper programs (Apple Application Support, Apple Mobile Divice Support, and Apple Software Update).  Reboot, and reinstall iTunes.  It will reinstall all the other ones and you should be able to connect your nano.  Good luck.

    This has been happening for a while now and im not sure what the problem could be. Each time i shut down my computer after being on the Itunes application it always comes up with the same thing "End program" then different squiggles and random letters follow it. It doesnt give me any problems but id like to know why it does that and is there any way to stop it,as i think it may be one of the reasons my computer goes slower.

    Might be something like antivirus or adware interfering with iTUnes as it shuts down or closes. But we'll do this first to see if it fixes it.
    Goto control panel>add and remove and uninstall BOTH itunes and quicktime. doing this will not loose any music or playlist. Now go here and roll down to the section "Clean up iTunes installer files on the computer" http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93976
    Now disable antivirus and any security programs, then goto apple.com and download/install the latest version of iTUnes.
    If after this it still happens, scan the PC with antivirus AND an adware scanner like Ewido http://www.ewido.com

  • Some of the keys on my keyboard do not work.  I've run through the trouble shooting tips and still no solution.

    Wireless keyboard - Not all Keys work.  For example: the top F1 through F12 and the right side shift key do not work.

    1. Try resetting NVRAM/PRAM and SMC. Doesn't usually 'cure' keyboard problems you report, but it costs nothing and only takes a few minutes.

    2. Try plugging in a USB keyboard. Doesn't absolutely have to be a Mac keyboard. A PC keyboard will work for a test. If the typing problem does not occur with the USB keyboard, you have a temporary solution until you can arrange to visit a repair facility.
    3. If your MacBook is older and has a user-removable battery, shut down the computer, remove the battery, and examine it for signs of 'bulging' or swelling. Then connect the computer to the Magsafe power supply, without reinstalling the battery, and turn it back on. If the keyboard problem has gone away, it was likely caused by a swelling battery.

  • General Trouble Shooting Tips for New Users

    Ok so we're starting a Topic to help out people just starting up with Logic Express.
    Me and a few others who frequent this board with a load of good answers thought it would be a good idea to offer a little helping hand to new users. Hopefully avoiding them their lapses in confidence and creativity by the way of limited techincal knowledge.
    As far as Professional sequencers and recorders go Logic is pretty straight forward and quite basic too. If you're coming from either using Garage Band 1/2 or maybe even a PC with Cubase, Cool Edit, Sonar or otherwise. You may find it baffeling to start with.
    So we hope this can be of some help to you.

    Crack open the champagne it's Tip 1.
    First off if you are using an external audio interface make sure it's plugged into your computer, it's powered up and drivers are installed. If using the internal sound card make sure all your connecting cables work ok and they are plugged in.
    If you're running Logic for the first time, it should recognise compatible audio interfaces when you run the initial setup. It should also set this to be the default interface from now on.
    If you've already been using Logic for a while and have just invested, then make sure and to to Preference/Audio and to the drivers panel. Select the driver there and leave all other settings as they are by default to avoid confusion.
    This should then allow you to record audio. SO go to the Edit/Arrangement window and make an Audio if there's not already one there. Then head over to the Mix window and find that channel (Audio 1 is normally all the way to the left). You'll see the faders and just above them the panners, above these will be two boxes the top is to set the input channel on your interface, and the second is the output.
    Set these according to the signal path you're trying to record hit the "Rec" button on that channel and you should either see the meter move up and down corresponding the sound, or you'll see the meter and hear the sound as well.
    You can turn off the software monitoring (ie being able to hear the sound coming in) in the same preference panel we looked at earlier. Under "Software Monitoring".
    Now you should be ready to record the sound. Switch back to the Edit/Arrange window and hit record in the transport bar. PERFORM. Hit stop. Go back to the start of the sound and hit play.
    NOW
    If you don't hear sound check the easiest things first. Is you audio interface or internal sound card connected to a set of speakers? Be it by means of an amplifier first or maybe you got some flash active ones!?
    Do the cable you're using to connect with actually work?
    Is the volume control up on the amp? Are the speakers plugged in?
    This may sound stupid but it's the most annoy thing to do wrong and it DOES happen.
    If this still doesn't work then double check all your drivers are there present and correct, the volume control in the computer is turned up, you have assign a valid output, and all levels within any software mixer that came with your interface are also all the way up.
    Still nothing? Post a detailed description of your setup and problem in the forum and someone will answer it probably within a day or so.
    Don't forget READ the manual, don't expect this to as easy as Garageband it's a different scale of operation which given time can reap massive rewards. Not always monitary mind you.

    We bought this itouch for our daughter for Christmas (2011), It has worked fine all this time until now. All of a sudden it will not connect to our home wi fi. All the other ipods/iphones/laptops and desktop are connecting fine so I know it is not the router itself. I have tried all the standard troubleshooting tips (forgetting the network and resetting it on the ipod, turning it off an on, plugging it in and updating the software, we even restored it completely from itunes as a new ipod). It lists the network as available but then when you try to connect it just sits there with the little circle icon thing spinning, trying to connect but never does.Please help!

    So you also rebooted your router correct?  Does the iPod still connect okay to other networks?

    I was unable to complete the last step and am still unsure as to what the problem is and how it can be fixed. I have tried contacting Adobe, and surprise surprise, they aren't available for customer support on the weekend.     Are you connecting via wifi? If so, I suspect that there is some network interference.

    but the CPU upgrade failed, nothign on screen.
    Reseated RAM and CMOS battery
    Swap parts with working upgrade pc
    CPUID-Z shows everything similar except just one thing.
    One of the nortbridge has ver 1.0, one has no version.
    What's preventing from upgrading?  I'm thinking of degrade the bios to previous ver.
