Failed SMS restore to N900 from N95Gb

Hello,
I'd like to transfer 500+ SMS messages from an N95Gb to an N900.
I used Ovi to back up the N95, then attempted to restore from that
backup to the N900.  Ovi gave "Failed to restore" the text messages.
This failure occurred with and without a SIM card in the N900.
It occurred after I sent an SMS from the N900 to itself (thus creating
any internal folders that may not have existed in my first attempt).
Can anyone shed some light on this, and/or tell me how to xfer my
SMS messages from old phone to new?
Thanks,
Seth Teller

Wow, that is incredibly disappointing.  How could something as basic as
texts not be preserved across platforms -- I mean, it's just ASCII !
Suppose I can use Ovi or PC suite etc. to pull them off the N95, and
store them as a .csv or other generic format file on my PC.  Suppose
further than I can move that .csv file to the N900.  Would there then be
a way under Maemo to reconstitute the texts onto the new phone?
(By the way, writing "why would you want to keep so many [texts],"  as
someone did above, sounds a lot like blaming the user for doing
something reasonable...)
not blaming anything on the user.  to each his own.
in its current state there is not a way.   now that does not go to say that some uber linux/unix coder cannot figure out some mapping code to make it at least plausable.

  • Recovery Manager / Windows 8 / Failing to restore / discs purchased from HP

Last week I purchased a set of recovery discs directly from HP.com. Before this my laptop was running perfectly fine, no issues at all. I purchased the discs in hope of restoring my laptop to its factory settings. After receiving the first set of discs I inserted the first disc and powered my laptop down and then powered it back up. I then proceeded to follow the instructions presented in the interface. I noticed when I got to the 4th disc, the "Application and Driver Recovery DVD", that the image was not taking at all. After such I received the following message in Recovery Manager: "In most cases, recovering the hard drive will fix your problems. If your problems continue, you may need to contact HP Support. Find HP Support contact information in your PC documentation".
From there I clicked on the "finish" tab that resulted in the laptop powering down but not rebooting. So I powered it back up manually where I received the infamous "Boot Device Not Found / Please install an operating system on your hard disk / Hard Disk (3F0) / F2 System Diagnostics" message. I was immediately alarmed. I proceeded to repeat the system recovery instructions once again. These were the instructions provided by HP along with the recovery discs.
Once again I received the same messages, the same results. So I immediately contacted HP support. The first agent I spoke to acted as if he had never heard of the "Boot Device Not Found" problem, which I now know is very common with HP notebooks. He diagnosed the problem as faulty recovery discs, thus he had a new set expedited to my home. I received them a few days later, the exact same set of discs and instructions. Of course I was feeling weary about things at this point. And as I expected I received the exact same results as I did with the prior set of discs.
So once again I contacted HP support where they looked into other problems, such as the health of my HDD. But the HDD passed both the quick check and the extensive check. Like I stated earlier, before I started the recovery process with the HP discs I had no problems with my laptop at all, including my HDD. So the agent had me go through the BIOS solution that I have seen others use on here, where legacy mode is enabled. This solution to failed.
I've also tried resetting the BIOS to it's default settings. I've also carefully removed my HDD and reseated it nice and snug. After doing so I ran the diagnostic tool, and once again the HDD passed with flying colors. HP support finally suggested, as I was already expecting, for me to have the laptop sent off to them to have it repaired. This is not an option. It was a perfectly running machine before I ran the recovery discs and it should be the same now.
But one thing I did notice from the get go, after receiving the first set of discs, and researching what the interface of the recovery manager should look like (http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03489643), was the fact that the interface established by the windows 8 recovery discs that I received, look nothing like that found on the HP support site. It also never gave me the option, like it states in the instructions that were provided with the discs, to select either a "Factory Reset" or a "File Backup Program". The system recovery instructions are dated as Second Edition: March 2014 but the 3 operating discs are dated 2012 with the Driver disc being dated 2014.
Like I stated before, after running all 3 operating discs through, without interuption, the Driver disc does nothing when asked if I have a supplemental disc. With that all being said, has anyone ever been provided the wrong set of recovery discs directly from HP? Or do you know of another solution that might solve my dilema? Any help or suggestions would be sincerely appreciated.
I'm just wondering if I might have received a set of discs intended for let's say a desktop system running Windows 8 instead of the ones needed for a laptop.
The following is the name and part # of the discs that I received: "System Recovery DVD Windows 8 Recovery Media for Windows 8 Products". 1st disc: 708664-001, 2nd disc: 708665-001, 3rd disc: 708666-001, 4th disc (Application and Driver): 712189-B26.

Did the replacement disks work? I have the exact same problem, hours on the phone, no solution except send to them with more money
Nope. I gave up trying to get real support and a resolution from them. You'd think they would have at least a few local American reps to communicate with, but I guess HP is too **bleep** cheap to pay a few extra bucks to hire such people!
Anyhow I took a different route in restoring my operating system, thanks to an individual on another tech site. He gave me a link to an ISO file that at least got me back up and running.
And don't, whatever you do, send them anymore money. It's a complete ripoff, complete sham. After, like I mentioned in one of my earlier posts, communicating hours after hours with HP support over this matter I was told I would receive a full refund, even though the discs sold to me originally had already blown out my Windows 8 operating system. I reluctantly agreed. I just didn't want to deal with them anymore. Over a week had passed and I saw that my credit card had still not been credited like I had been promised by the HP rep. So I called back to see what was going on with it.
Once again I was put through the ringer, told to call this and that number, connected over and over with different Indian reps. Finally one, after speaking with her supervisor, told me I would NOT be receiving a refund because I had received and used the discs. I finally stopped being polite at this point. I blew up on the phone! These effers admittedly sent me the "copied wrong" discs not once, but 3 freaking times! Thus blowing out my operating system! Prior to being told I would receive a 100% refund, I offered to go directly to the HP distribution center where the discs originated from. Ironically it's only about 40 miles from my home. I just wanted to take my laptop there with me to find the correct software to restore my operating system. But they, the HP reps, would not allow such. Complete BS!
Thankfully I was able to contact my credit card company and was able to dispute the charge. When I told the "American" rep that I was having a problem with HP he started chuckling. He pretty much told me that HP was one of the most disputed companies out there. He took care of everything for me. I was able to get a full refund for the time being.
I will never buy another HP product again. And this is coming from someone who has not only an HP laptop but a 2 year old desktop as well, and not too mention my HP printer. After this ordeal they, HP, will never get a dime from me again!

    Thanks

    Hi Trevor
    Thanks for reply.
I am beginner in share point.
Getting below version in Development and Production Environment.
    In the beginning
Dev environment has 15.0.4615.1001. Then we installed 15.0.4571.1502.
Production Environment has 15.0.4569.1506. Then we installed 15.0.4571.1502.
So now both versions looks exactly same. But somewhere it didn't upgraded fully. Backup and Restore works in the same server If applied but doesn't
work if I apply from Dev to Production Version.

  • HT201272 Having a bad day my iTunes library got corrupted and my back up disk has failed how can I restore my purchases from the iTunes store

Having a bad day my iTunes library got corrupted and my back up disk has failed how can I restore my purchases from the iTunes store? When I try it tells me the pruchases have already been downloaded to this computer.

Does your purchased rmusic appears under the Purchased link under Quicklinks on the right-hand side of the iTunes store home page (music can't be re-downloaded in all countries) ? If they do and you don't have the cloud symbol against them so as to re-download them, then do you still have the entries for them in your library i.e. where you would normally click on them to play them ? If you do then try deleting them from there (iTunes will be seeing them and assuming that you still have them somewhere) and they should then get the cloud symbol for re-downloading in the Purchased link.
If you aren't in a country where music can be re-downloaded then you could try contacting iTunes support and see if they will grant you a re-download : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ - click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page,

In Firefox the bookmarks are saved in a database file called places.sqlite in the profile folder. If you have got this file from the external hard drive you can restore the bookmarks by copying this file to your current profile folder. I had to restore my system from a time machine backup. It seemed to go alright up to it asking me to resart to complete the installation, but it would not boot. It forced a panic screen that told me to force quit my computer and resart which did not resolve anything.
Now I have installed the original Leopard 10.5 but I used to have 10.6.8 on it. How can I get it back to 10.6.8? or do I have to buy it again?
Any ideas why the restore failed?
    thanks,
    R.

It seems you had a kernel panic (see attached link):
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3742
Regarding upgrade to Snow Leopard (10.6.8), you will have to install the disk you used originally.  If you have lost it, then you will have to get a new one.  The Apple online store sells them for about $29.  When you install Snow  Leopard, you should then do a Software update.
    Ciao.

I've installed the recommended update yesterday (Nov 6th) but didn't restart Firefox. Since restarting the computer this morning, Firefox has failed to open any website from the web. The connection is ok, explorer loads the sites normally, Firefox opens tabs as normal, it's just that the content of the pages doesn't show up, and after a while we get messages like "connection timed out". HTML files that I have stored on my own hard drive display normally in Firefox.
I tried "restore Firefox" but it didn't help.

Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

  • IPad fails to restore from iCloud backup files.

My iPad 3 would display Time Remaining from say 20 minutes, 19 minutes, ....., 2 minutes, then ramp up to 3 minutes, 4 minutes, ...., say 19 minutes (sometime to about an hour), then display a dialogue ‘Cannot Restore Backup’.
I have tried many times with my 3 different iCloud backup files.
The background why I needed to restore from iCloud was that I could not restart my iPad after a power off.
Before I powered off, I have as many as about 1,555 apps.
Not sure if this is the reason why I could not restart after power off and restore from iCloud as described above.
Did anyone come across similar symptoms and had fixed and been able to restore from iCloud?
Is Apple going to fix this in next minor iOS 6 version update or iOS 7?
    Thanks.

Your iPad backups are stored in the folder
    ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/
The "~" represents your Home folder. If you don't see Library in your Home folder, option-click the Go menu. Or, just copy the above line completely and paste it in the Finder's Go > Go to Folder... field.
Quit iTunes if it is open. Navigate to that folder then "Enter Time Machine". The Backup folder will be highlighted. Go back in time and select the one you want. Restore it. Then, you can open iTunes and restore your iPad from backup.

  • Firefox 12 failed to restore my previous session!

    Hi there!
Well, last night I shut down my computer from the Start menu in Vista. I believe I had closed Firefox manually before I proceeded with the shut down. I don't think it has anything to do with the way you exit Firefox, but I'm just saying it.
I usually have several tabs open in Firefox, this time I had about 50 of them and every time I close Firefox it prompts me if I want to save the tabs. I don't think this is a default setting, I think I set this up myself. So I just click the option which saves my tabs so that the next time I start Firefox I can continue where I left off.
I believe I clicked the save button last night as well. But today I started up Firefox and the tabs were gone.
I did follow the procedure for restoring the last session as described here:
    https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Firefox%20does%20not%20ask%20to%20save%20tabs%20and%20windows%20on%20exit?s=Firefox+12+failed+to+restore+previous+session%21&r=1&e=es&as=s
But the thing is I don't have the option to restore last session when I go to Firefox button and History.
Also, I have started and closed Firefox since that several times. So this restore option might only just restore the last tab I closed anyway. As described...
''If you close each window or tab, only the final window or tab that you closed will be available when you restart Firefox.''
Why did Firefox forget to restore my tabs?...
This happened to me once before but I don't remember how I restored the tabs.
And also, it happened once that Firefox failed to prompt me if I want to save my tabs, and instead prompted me with a whole different dialog, the one where it warns me that I'm about to close all open tabs and asks me to confirm.
There was no way around it so I intentionally ''crashed'' the computer, knowing that once I log on to Windows and start Firefox again it will restore my tabs automatically whether it wants to or not. And, of course, this proved to be true, all my tabs were back.
But did I really have to ''crash'' my comptuer for this? Maybe I could have crashed only the Firefox by terminating it's process... but it works either way. One time it asks, one time it doesn't ask to save tabs. Completely disregarding the settings! There is something seriously wrong here!
After that first incident I was again able to save my tabs on exit, it always asked me to save them from that point on, as I would expect it to. Until now...
Now it asks me if I ''want to'' save my tabs, and I say ''yes please'', just to find out the next morning it didn't restore them, as if they never were saved. Haha! LOL! Ridiculous! Haha, that Firefox 12! :) What a clown!
As mutch as this is a call for help in restoring those tabs, it is also a reminder to Firefox developers that something really stinks here! You need to work out the session save and restore mechanism in Firefox 12. Unluckily for me I had not installed the Session Manager extension. That's one tool that does better what Firefox should do by standard.

Yeah, if the tabs were not restored then unfortunately sessionstore.bak was overwritten. But you're taking it surprisingly well. :) Most people are pissed beyond belief, which is expected. :P
Also let me clear up the confusion between sessionstore.js & sessionstore.bak. Sessionstore.bak is the backup file that Firefox makes after every shutdown of Firefox. Sessionstore.js is the main file that stores all the data about tabs, app tabs and recently closed tabs & windows.
You can backup either one of these files but, like you did, it's best to check the modified timestamp on both files and most importantly their sizes. It will let you know how old that file is and the bigger the size of the file, the better. A 2kb file likely has 1 or 2 tabs, where a 500kb one has around 20 tabs or more.
But to keep it simple, just backup sessionstore.js.
And yes, great idea about Shadow Copy. I've used it on Windows 7 and it really is a life saver. I found it had around 20 or 30 backups for the places.sqlite which I was trying to recover. You could try to implement it on Vista with 3rd party software, I'd just read some reviews first.
Or you could install the [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/session-manager/ Session Manager addon] we both discussed earlier. Unless you think adding that add-on is overkill or you don't want to weigh down Firefox with another addon? But in this case, I think it does do what you want, which is backup your sessionstore.js everyday or every few days. I think the setting is customizable.
I'm praying for the day they create a "sessionstorebackups" folder like they have for the '''bookmarkbackups''' folder. That way we can have a better chance to recover the tabs.
'''Edit:''' You replied while I typed this. But great work! I didn't know Shadow Copy kept backups of files on Vista even though the service wasn't running. Anyway that's great news. And I see you'll be using Session Manager from now on. :D
And thanks for clearing up the part about Firefox prompting you to save your tabs at closing. I haven't seen Firefox do that in a while (the last version that showed that prompt was maybe 3.5?) so I was wondering what was going on there. :) Take care and have a good one!

"Failed to download the update from internet. Error = 5"
The above is the error I am getting when running any ADR. The error is quite clear software updates are failing to download and Error = 5 being a permissions error its clear that the downloads are failing due to incorrect permissions applied to the download

Also, I do not have a patchdownloader.log anywhere, Ive checked all aforementioned locations from various sources and it just simply does not exist on my SCCM server. Here is my setup:
Server1: Primary server with all roles installed locally except the site database is on its own server. WSUS is installed locally here and DB is stored here.
Server2: SQL DB for Primary site DB
Server3: Secondary remote site running MP, DP, SUP. DB is SQL Express local.
So the SUP role was installed successfully on both server1 first and server 2 second with the site servers accounts. The SUP Synchronizes successfully and I can see a large list of updates available for use but not downloaded of course. I have set WSUS option
to store updates locally and have plenty of space at the target destination.
So here is my issue, I have been working on this issue for the better part of a week and understand the error code from the ruleengine.log to be a permissions issue. I have also proved this out but creating a test ADR with minimal updates and applied NTFS perms
to the target path for Modify with the everyone group (testing purposes only). The updates downloaded successfully. So this puts me right back to where I was, knowing its a permissions issue but not understanding what permissions are needed. Let me explain
    further.
The best way to start is to show what perms I have to the target location for downloads/wsus/sup anything:
Path: \\Server1\UpdatesAndDefinitions    (permissions being applied to the UpdatesAndDefinitions root folder)
SCCMAdmin (account used for most SCCM tasks except for NA) / Modify / Share and NTFS
Server1$ (primary site server) / Modify / NTFS
Everyone / read and execute / NTFS and Share
There are other system generated perms but the above three are the important ones. So hence my confusion I know that the SCCMAdmin account or the Server its self has to be accessing the target directory so why is it failing with a permissions issue?
My next step was to enable Auditing on the target path. Doing so revealed just what I thought and through me into further frustration:
A network share object was accessed.

Now I may not be the best I traversing through the mess of audit entry's and translating them, but from what I can see the two accounts that have the proper share and ntsf perms ive listed above are indeed the ones accessing the target location and the audit
code is success. I filter for failures and found no audits for failures whatsoever yet my downloads still fail religiously, unless of course I open myself up with the everyone group.
So next... I tried adding in the Network Service account with proper permissions, the Local Service Account, my user account, and all no go's.
Next... I remove the SUP roles from SCCM checked the logs for deinstall confirmations, and reinstalled these roles. No Go!
If anyone can assist I would be in your debt and very grateful.
Oh last note, but very important note I'm running SCCM 2012 SP1 CU4
    Thanks,

I just tested with the everyone group further; I added everyone with modify for ntfs and just read only for share and downloads failed!
I then changed the share perms for everyone to change and the ntfs to read/execute and poof downloads complete! Obviously change share perms for everyone leaves me open which Id like to prevent, so finding what account is being used is crucial.
I have already tried adding all of the SCCM accounts I use and the servers themselves as change perms to share and ntfs and have not had any luck.

  • I have rebuilt my home PC and want to restore my playlists from my iPhone and iPad to the PC but I can only fgind how to sync the other way (i.e. iTunes on PC overwrites the iPhone or iPad)! Frustrating! Can anyone Help?

    Hi All,
I have both the iPhone (16Gb 4S) and an iPad (128Gb Retunia display).
My home PC recently failed and I was unable to restore and through some bad luck my backups were rained on and corrupted (I have tried all sorts ot tricks to get it back but no luck and have now moved on to rebulding and regathering the data and applications).
Bottom line is that I have replaced the pld machen wioth a newer model and more RAM, etc.
My problem is that I do not appear to be able typo restore my playlists from my iPad and iPhone to the PC!
Every way I have tried wants to overwrite my iPhone or iPad with what is on the PC!
How can I get the music on my iPad/iPhone to the PC?
I have most of the music tracks (in various places) still but do not want to go through the 6000 tracks IU have to pick out my playlists all over again. That was the work of a few years!
    Second item:
I have a few ibooks and am unsure ghopw to get the onto my iPad? ANy hints or help will be appreciated.
    Thank you

  • HELP! How can i restore/recover files from Bootcamp with Boot Failure - Missing operating system error?

    Hi,
I am having a few problems with bootcamp on my imac. When i tried to move the bootcamp partition on windows 7 into free space, it crashed and turned off. Ever since i have had the error 'Missing operating system' and it fails to boot. I have some very important files on the bootcamp partition. Is it possible to recover these files or even to restore the bootcamp partition to it's original state? I do not have a backup of my bootcamp partition. Another problem i have is that ever since i tried to expand my macintosh HD partition into free space, when i hold alt while booting up (to choose which partition to boot like i normally do), the bootcamp partition has stopped appearing. This means that i cannot even boot the windows 7 bootcamp partition anymore!
So basically here are my 2 questions:
How can i restore/recover files from Bootcamp with Boot Failure - Missing operating system error?
How can i make the Bootcamp partition appear in Startup Disk and when i hold the option key while starting up my computer to allow me to boot windows 7?
Any solutions are very much apreciated!
    Thanks!
I know that bootcamp (disk0s4) hasn't been fully deleted since it appears in disk utility (i cant do anything to it though)
And here is the error i see when i try to launch bootcamp (back when i was actually able to boot up bootcamp to the error screen)

WinClone 3 is OS X and saves Windows image it makes for restore - that should work but you will have to try and you would need to make a new image unless it also works with a native Windows system restore image. It is now supported and has come a long way.

Paragon Clone OS works and does disk-to-disk clone just like CCC you end up with two bootable drives. But does not work with your setup. It would let you clone and move your Windows install to an SSD or another disk drive though and be bootable.
During its clone process it checks for errors which is very helpful and lets you know - something CCC and others should adopt more of.

I wish for our/my sake you had re-read and rewritten the long 'story' and broken it into a brief list of facts we needed.
    OS X
    Windows
Backup (though external is much safer) and you want bootable OS X clones as well as TimeMachine

There are a number of things to do like chkdsk and others as well as Windows DVD to do automatic system repairs and find out why.
AppleHFS - the abilty to mount and read HFS volumes can be notorious.
I would rearrange and redo your storage setup and how you use the 4-5 internal hard drive bays.

Have you failed to maintain a backup copy of your computer?  not good.
The ipod is not a backup device.
You can redownload itunes purchases.  Open itunes store, click Purchased, under Quick Links
You should always maintain a backup copy of your computer.
