Failed software update for 10.4.7
I'm open to ideas as to what to do!
I opened software update, thinking that I should get my OS and apps up to date (I was running 10.4.5), so I ran cocktail and repaired permissions, and then I did everything that came up on software update (iTunes, Quicktime, 10.4.7, etc) Everything installled, except 10.4.7. I got a message that said that the update was in moved to the trash, and that I should try it again.
I went to Apple's site, downloaded the 10.4.7 updater, and had no luck. I ran the hardware test 4 times from my iMac disk, but it said everything was fine.
I tried to repair permissions, but it wouldn't work. So I used iDefrag and then DiskWarrior, no problems there, and then I tried repairing permissions, and it wouldn't work: ""Disk Utility started, but a background process needed in Disk Utility didn't start properly. Please quit and restart Disk Utility."
Still won't work, and I can't keep other apps open for very long. Safari doesn't work, Mail doesn't work, etc. When I open System Profiler and click on ATA, I don't get anything; progress indicator just spins and spins.
Any ideas?

Maybe the reason for no responses is that you seem to have been pretty thorough already. Looks like you have already searched the forums for threads w similar problems.
Sometimes there are glitches in the download. I am not sure whether you did the SU delta updater or the Combo. Combo is best as in contains more even if it's a one step upgrade. You should find the one for your puter here.

Yes.
Choose Apple menu > Restart. Hold down the Command (⌘) and R keys as your computer restarts.
When you see a white screen with an Apple logo in the middle, you can release the keys.
Click Disk Utility, and then click Continue.
In the list at the left, select the item you want to repair. (Be sure to select an item that’s indented to the right in the list, not an item at the far left.)
Click First Aid.
If Disk Utility tells you the disk is about to fail, back it up and replace it. You can’t repair it.
Click Repair Disk.
If Disk Utility reports that the disk appears to be OK or has been repaired, you’re done.
Otherwise, you may need to do one of the following steps.
If Disk Utility can’t repair your disk or it reports “The underlying task reported failure,” try to repair the disk or partition again. If that doesn’t work, back up as much of your data as possible, reformat the disk, reinstall Mac OS X, and then restore your backed-up data.
If you continue to have problems with your disk, it may be physically damaged and need to be replaced -
The messages concerning software updates for my old Nokia 6230i phone are somehow inconsistent.
In some places it recommands an update - at least for some soecial software like the visual radio: http://europe.nokia.com/get-support-and-software/product-support/nokia-6230i/software/visual-radio-u...
but the menu in the description doesn't look similar to what I see when I connect to the Download section of Nokia.com (via phone).
A firmware update seems not to be possible to do, although it's recommended.
In some places it' sais that my phone can be updated via Software Updater but trying to do it it fails and the link to the help page doesn't work either.
So I think it's not possible but any hint would be very welcome.

and the newest Nokia PC Suite: 7.1.30.9
The problem I hope to solve with a firware update is, that the mmc card (2GB) can not be used with ubuntu linux.
It can somehow be used with the PC Suite and Windows but not as externel memory.

I-Tunes 7.4.2 with Apple Software Update for Windows
When I upgraded to I-Tunes 7.4.2, I was also offered an Apple Softward Update for Windows. This failed to install. The error message said something about part of it not being able to run or something. Is this a Vista thing? I still have Windows XP and don't plan to change. Will I have problems with newer versions of I-Tunes? How can I get this Apple Software Update for Windows to work - or do I have to?

Even though I asked, you never said if you have an ASU 2.0.0.21 ... so this solution runs the risk of being irrelevant to your situation. (It applies to the issue of ASU 2.0.0.21 on an XP PC returning an "invalid signature" message when trying to download an ASU 2.1.0.101.)
If that's what you've got here, then usually a software installer bundle from Apple which contains a higher version of ASU than the 2.0.0.21 will install on the PC in question.
(Avoid using the BonJour for Windows 1.0.4 standalone installer just at the moment, as a precaution. Last time I checked, about 20 minutes ago, that still contained an ASU 2.0.0.21, and that won't get you any further forward than you currently are ... assuming that you've currently got an ASU 2.0.0.21 in place.)
So download and install another Apple installer bundle. Here's a link through to the QuickTime Standalone installer, although the Safari for Windows or iTunes installer would also work:

That should, as part of the install, update your ASU to version 2.1.0.101. To check on that, launch ASU ("Start > All Programs > Apple Software Update"), go "Help > About Apple Software Update" and check the version number. If you're now at ASU 2.1.0.101, you're past the problem with ASU 2.0.0.21 returning an 'Invalid signature" message when trying to install an ASU 2.1.0.101 (assuming that's the particular problem you were actually experiencing).
You can then uninstall QuickTime for Windows (or Safari for Windows, or iTunes and QuickTime and Apple Mobile Device Support, depending on what installer you used to update your ASU version) through your Add/Remove programs control panel. -
Is there any news about when the software update for the extravert will be available?
Had the phone since November and can't send or receive media messages or go on the internet. Basically there doesn't seem to be enough memory, stripped the phone of all apps, pics,and music to free it up but still say's it full. Getting vague answers from Verizon and L.G of there will be new software soon. On the unlimited plan and can't use everything I'm paying for. Thanks

Can't install iPhone 2.0 Software Update for iPod touch
I am trying to download the iPhone 2.0 Software Update for iPod touch from http://www.apple.com/ipodtouch/whatsnew.html so I can download apps for my new iPod touch. (Although it is pretty bogus that I should have to pay $10 for an upgrade on a brand new device so that I have the privilege to buy apps). I have iTunes 7.7 already installed.
When I click on the link https://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZFinance.woa/wa/touchLandingPage , I do not get a download, and iTunes does not open. Nothing happens if I open iTunes before trying this link either.
Instead, I get a brief page which says "One Momemt Please". Connecting to the iTunes Store. Loading... If iTunes doen't open, click the iTunes application in your Doc or Windows Task Bar" , then my browser is redirected to http://www.apple.com/itunes/affiliates/download/?itmsUrl=itmss%3A%2F%2Fphobos.ap ple.com%2FWebObjects%2FMZFinance.woa%2Fwa%2FtouchLandingPage%3Fign-mscache%3D1 which tells me to download iTunes... but I already have iTunes installed.
I installed (then uninstalled, reinstalled) the latest iTunes (7.7.0.43) and the problem persists. iTunes works fine for all other uses.
I have the problem with both Firefox (3.0) and Internet Explorer (6)
How can I download and install The iPhone 2.0 Software Update for iPod touch directly from iTunes? I cannot find it when I search for it. It is not listed in the App store.
(P.S. The web support form does not work when I tried to fill out a problem report for "Connection" issues. Although I filled in all form fields, it would not send the report, telling me I did not fill in a field.)The upgrade now appears directly in iTunes, so I do not need to access it from the web page. I see many others are encountering problems installing the upgrade, so I'll see how it goes...
There is no answer to the initial problem that iTunes install does not configure the browsers to handle the itmss:// protocol.
I still think Apple should not charge for this for a brand new iPod purchased just this week. -

because you do not have a 3rd generation device. The OS Version says so , otherwise you would be at 4.3.5 minimum and also Itunes is also always correct in determining if you have the latest OS ( if not it fetches the newest from Apple's Servers ) . And because a 2nd generation iPod stops at 4.2.1 you can't get the newest OS, because your device is old. Buy a new iPod , they have iOS5 preinstalled. -

New software update for iPod touch 4th generation? PLEASE HELP!!
Ok so here is the problem: I have the iPod touch 4th generation with software version 4.3 (I have had my iPod for about 7 months) and recently within the past week or so I have started experiencing multiple crashes with many different various apps and games. Just random games crashing and then I noticed it happening with the Facebook app and even Safari on my iPod! I had to get off of my iPod and come on the computer to type this message out because Safari would crash every single time I tried to type this on my iPod! So at first I figured it was the apps and games' problems, but then as more and more began to crash, like Facebook and Safari, I figured it is the Apple software version 4.3 acting up. So I was wondering, is Apple working on a new software update for iPod touch 4th gen.? Or is this a rare problem? Is there anyone out there having this same problem? Or anyone at all that can PLEASE help me?! MANY THANKS!

Start up from that Mac OS X 10.4 disc you have. Insert disc in optical drive and start up with the C key held down. On the first Installer screen, from the menu bar, under Utilities, select to run Disk Utility.
In Disk Utility, select your startup volume (usually "Macintosh HD") in the sidebar and go to the First Aid tab. Run Verify Disk. If it reports a problem, that may be the reason for your long-term difficulties. You hard drive volume has data corruption.
You can try Repair Disk in Disk Utility. However, it would be a very good idea to have a backup of the data on that disk, in case the attempt to repair makes the problem worse. -

Well first off you shouldn't have had to pay for a download (just an assumption from the word "purchased".
If you are trying to install iOS 5 on your iPod touch, it won't work they arent compatible. I suggest checking what version of software you are trying to install and posting it in this forum so people can have a better understanding. -

Hello, I hope by now you have resolved the upgrade issue, but if not, here is what I ended up having to do:
“SUCCESS!!! I took my iPod to a friend who is a computer programmer/genius. He turned off his wireless, hooked the ethernet cable directly into his computer, and the download went through without a hitch. YAY!”

I really want to have this thing updated for himw hwne he opens it, but I am starting to worry that my purchase was a bust. I know this is the oldest version, but I don't want to buy a newer, more expensive iPod and him still not be mature enough to really take care of it. As I said, this one is a starter.
