Failed to activate guest network airport utility maverick

Hi,
I'm trying to activate the Guest network on a timecapsule, using the Airport utility available witk Max OSX Maverick 10.9.
Each time I check the checkBox "Activate Gust Network", it is deseapearing from the UI. Looks like a strange bug on Airport Utility (same behaviour on a macbook pro and on a MacMini, with both up-to-date maverick)
Even if I try to apply changes on timecapsule, the changes hasen't been taken in account, and the guest network is not Up
Any idea?
Many thanks for your help
Best regards
Marc

The PC may be the problem.. do you have iOS device.. ipad or iphone .. then use the airport utility on that.. it is by far the most reliable out of Mac and PC versions.. iOS is tops.
If that is not possible go the admin tool and make sure the bonjour service is running.. it might have failed to start.
Then reboot everything.. see if the utility can locate the AE.. no luck.. it is easy.. reset to factory manually and start again.. you have no choice if the PC is the only way in.
Factory reset universal
Power off the AE.. ie pull the power cord or power off at the wall.. wait 10sec.. hold in the reset button.. be gentle.. power on again still holding in reset.. and keep holding it in for another 10sec. You may need some help as it is hard to both hold in reset and apply power. It will show success by rapidly blinking the front led. Release the reset.. and wait a couple of min for the AE to reset and come back with factory settings. If the front LED doesn’t blink rapidly you missed it and simply try again. The reset is fairly fragile in these.. press it so you feel it just click and no more.. I have seen people bend the lever or even break it. I use a toothpick as tool.

  • Guest Network - Airport Express

I have set up my new airport express and everything works fine but when people come over they can't seem to connect to the guest network and when they do they can't get internet access.
    Please help.

Unfortunately, Apple mistakenly assumes that everyone will be connecting their AirPort router to a simple modem.......not a modem/router or gateway type of device that is often furnished by Internet Service Providers to their customers.
The Guest Network feature will not work correctly when the AirPort is connected to a modem/router or gateway device.
So, the first logical troubleshooting step here would be to find out what kind of device you have, to verify compatibility with the Guest Network function.
What is the make and model number of the device that you call your modem?

  • HT1218 I had to reset my AirPort Extreme and now I can't use AirPort Utility (Mavericks) to set it up again.  Help, please!

Does anybody know how I can fix this?  I really don't want to pay somebody to do it for me.  It's unfortunate that I feel penalized for using the old AirPort.  It's a product that has lasted me many years, but now I feel pressured to get a new router since the installation isn't seamless; which is what I am used to, and expect from Apple products, given the price.

You cannot use Mavericks. Ask a friend who still runs windows or any Mac OS except Mavericks to bring their laptop and help you out.
Or plug in a USB drive for instance and create a bootable version of any previous version of OSX since 10.5.x -10.8 all of which will work fine.
Or dual boot to windows where the latest airport utility is still 5.6

  • TS4505 Unable to connect to internet over Guest Network  (Airport)

I have changed the guest network's DNS server IPv4 addresses to 75.75.75.75 and 75.75.76.76 and rebooted base station.  These are the values for Comcast.
Still not able to connect to internet over this guest network.
Do I need to do anything else?  Help!

Bob - thank you for your quick reply.  My setup is as shown in the attached image:
My guest network is on the Apple Airport TIme Capsule (v7.7.2).  Router mode for this time capsule shows "Off (Bridge Mode)" but grayed out.  No edits possible as shown below:
Northbound of the Time Capsule is my Apple Airport Extreme (v7.6.4) that is in turn connected to a Comcast uBee DDM3513 Docsis 3.0 Cable Modem.  I believe it is this one.

  • How do I set user time limits on a guest network?

How do I set user time limits on a guest network AirPort Time Capsule?

It is not possible to set up specific time limits for the Guest Network as a whole, but it is possible to set up individual time limits for each device that will be connecting to the Guest Network.....and, also the main network for that matter.
If you can provide us with some more specifics on what you are trying to accomplish, how many devices will be involved, etc.......that will help us craft our answer to provide accurate information.
Meanwhile, if you want to take a look at the general settings in Timed Access....
Open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility
Click on the Time Capsule icon, then click Edit
Click the Network tab at the top of the screen
Enter a check mark in the box next to Enable Timed Access
Click on the Timed Access button
Click Cancel to avoid making any changes to your current setup

  • Airport utility greyed out

    Hi
trying to install airport extreme base station. I attempted to use an exisitng network from my old wireless router (and failed first try) Now the airport utility is greyed out - can't use any of it's options/menus
Searched for trouble shooting tips - but can't find anything helpful
    Help!
    thanks

The simple "fix" might be to temporarily connect an Ethernet cable from your router to one of the LAN <-> ports on the AirPort Extreme to see if AirPort Utility can "see" it.
If no luck, you'll need to perform a Factory Default Reset on the AirPort Extreme and then reconfigure it again.

  • How do i get airport utility to recognize airport express?

Airport express does not show up on my list of devices when I start up Airport Utility.  I'd love to use express with my stereo, but I cannot.

If that AirPort Express hasn't been configured, there are two ways to get AirPort Utility to "see" it:  (1) Connect an Ethernet cable between the Express and your Mac.  This works best if you don't need the Ethernet of the Express to connect to another router.  (2) Use the AirPort/WiFi menu bar item to look for a network named in the form "Apple Network xxxxxx".  That's the temporary network that the Express is creating.  If you select that network, AirPort Utility should list the Express.  Once you've configured the Express and restarted it, you'll have to reselect the appropriate wireless network.

  • How to setup a guest network when the dialogue boxes do not show up in AirPort Utility 6.1

How do I setup a guest network when the dialogue boxes do not show up in AirPort Utility 6.1?
I see screenshots where there are boxes to 'enable' guest network but these simply do not apear on the Wireless tab in AirPort Utility

I now have a guest account, thanks to you!
I did the factory reset and was able to set up the guest account.
There were 3 problems, all of which I was able to solve.
The first problem was connect to Ethernet, which I selected by WAN port, as shown in the first screen shot. This page used to read just Ethernet and the Bridge Mode.
The second problem was whether to share a range of addresses or share a public IP address. I selected share a public IP address as shown in the first screen shot. I had tried the range of IP addresses in my earlier attempts, the ones that failed. Hopefully this will have no effect.
I have forgotten what the third problem was - only excuse is a few too many flavored drinks. I didn't have any problems solving it though.
What is really weird is I can log on to Guest and use on my iPad (first generation), my wife's iPod Touch (third generation), and my wife's 2011 MacBook Pro. I can't log onto Guest on my 2008 iMac, even after a restart. I get the image below.
Since I don't lug my iMac around a lot and it is connected by Ethernet, while my little make it right brain says figure this out, I am not going to worry about it.
Thank you again for your time and patience in helping me solve this.

  • Guest Network in Airport Utility

I have just been reconfiguring my wireless network. I noticed it's still broadcasting a guest network, yet when I try to configure it in airport utility I can no longer find the guest network settings. I'm sure they used to be in the Wireless section of the Airport Extreme setup. Does anyone know where have they moved to? Thanks.

It really helps us provide a better and more accurate answer for you.....if we know what operating system you are using on your Mac or PC.
We'll take a guess that you are using Lion, Mountain Lion, or Mavericks.
    Open AirPort Utility
    Click on the AirPort Extreme
Click Edit in the smaller window that appears
Click the Wireless tab at the top of the window
If you are still using the Leopard, Snow Leopard, or PC version of AirPort Utility.....the Guest Network settings appear as their own tab.

  • How can I delete the guest network from my airport. It was fine until the last update. It says my whole name's guest network which I do not want everyone seeing. There is no guest network setting in my airport utility.

How can I delete the guest network from my airport. It was not showing up until I recently upgraded the airport. It now says my name's guest network and I don't like my name showing on the available network list! I am using a Verizon wireless modem with the wireless feature off.

Open AirPort Utility, go to the Wireless tab and remove the check from the guest network check box.

  • Kids are using the WiFi all night long and not sleeping... How can I temporarily turn off the WiFi at night using the Airport Extream or Airport Utility?  I must keep the guest network up as I have a tenant in an apartment over my garage using that.

My kids are up all night streaming Netflix and using the WiFi on their iPads and Apple TV. The next day they don't want to get up and go to school. Is there a way I can set up a separate access point for just the kids in AirPort Extreme and then turn that one off when i go to bed? Or somehow turn off the main network when I go to bed, without having to reconfigure the entire router the next day, and then simply turn it back on the next morning?  I have to keep the Guest Network up as I have a paying tenant living in an apartment over my garage that uses that network.
In the event it's not possible with the AirPort Extreme, any other suggestions would be appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

You can configure the AirPort Extreme for Timed Access using the AirPort Utility. Basically what you are doing is restricting the time of a wireless device by its MAC address has access to the base station's wireless network.
To access this feature: AirPort Utility > Select the Extreme > Edit > Network tab > Enable Access Control: Timed Access Control...

Have you attempted to reset the SMC? That would be the first step. Hold the left control, option, shift key and the power button for about 5 seconds and release. Then try to reboot. Might as well reset the PRAM as well. Hold command, option, P, R on start up until the machine restarts. If that doesnt' have any affect we'll have to dig deeper into a potential hardware failure.
If this method doesn't work, check the webcam that will tell the problem is on the iSight & WiFi cable. If your webcam is ok, then it'll be the WiFi card problem. Hope it can help ;-)

Is your AirPort Express an older 802.11g model? If so, you will need to install v5.6 if you are running OS X Lion or 5.6.1 if running OS X Leopard or Snow Leopard. Unfortunately, the iOS version of the AirPort Utility cannot administer these older base stations.

  • So my airport extreme recently had some nat/dns issue and in the airport utility displayed a warning about it and to correct it. I wasn't sure what to do so i pressed the resolve icon and now my guest network is not working.

Anytime you change networking hardware, it is always a good idea to perform a complete power recycle of your networking components.
I would recommend that you do the following as a minimum:
Power-down the modem, AirPort base station, and computer(s).
Disconnect the AirPort base station from the Internet broadband modem.
While all of the devices are powered-down, perform a "factory default" reset on the base station. This will get it back to its "out-of-the-box" configuration and make setting it up much easier, especially if you use the "Assist me" process within the AirPort Utility. (ref: Resetting an AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule)
After the base station resets, go ahead and power it back down.
Reconnect the AirPort base station to the Internet broadband modem. For the Extreme and Time Capsule, be sure to connect the cable to the base station's WAN (circle-of-dots) port.
Power-up the modem; wait at least 10-15 minutes to allow it adequate time to initialize.
Power-up the AirPort base station; wait at least 5-10 minutes. Note: The AirPort's status light may continue to flash amber after it has intialized. That is because, there may be some additional configuration items necessary, like setting up wireless security, before the overall setup is completed to get a green status.
    Power-up your computer(s).
In this basic configuration, the AirPort base station will broadcast an unsecured wireless network with a Network Name (SSID) of Apple Network NNNNNN. Network clients, connected to the base station either by wire or wireless, should now be able to access the Internet through the ISP's modem. Once Internet connectivity has been verified, you can use the AirPort Utility to configure the base station for wireless security and any other desired options. Please post back your results.

  • Airport utility 6 won't let me set up a guest network

Hi I want to set up a guest network.
In previous versions of Airport utility I could simply use the manual config option to do this. In version 6 I no longer have the option. The Wireless panel doesn't have the 'Create Guest Network' option anywhere on it.
So how do I set up a guest network?

Please download and install AirPort Utility 5.6 for Mac OS X Lion , which provides much more functionality than AirPort Utility 6.0.
If you still don't see the Guest Network tab, your AirPort is likely set up in Bridge Mode. It needs to be set up to Share a public IP address in order for the Guest Network option to appear.
Click the Internet icon, then click the Internet Connection tab
Check the setting for Connection Sharing
You can keep both versions of AirPort Utility on your Mac, as it is not possible to remove AirPort Utility 6.0.
