Failed to activate my iPhone

I recently bought a brand-new iPhone 4s, activated it and started using it: call, SMS, download apps, ...
However, this is still showing inactivated in https://selfsolve.apple.com/agreementWarrantyDynamic.do

The iPhone has to connect to the cellular network to complete activation. Make sure your iPhone is within the cell network area when trying to activate it.
You can also try Reset Network Settings from Settings > General > Reset.

    Who was your original carrier; did you call them to ask them to unlock your phone, and are you aware of what their unlock policy is (THey may only unlock for international sims and not US sims

    Apple's activation server is down.
    I called Apple and the support team had the same issue.
    All you can do is be patient.

    Do you have a SIM in the phone?
    A SIM is required to activate it.
    If you DO have a SIM in it, the most common cause of this problem is a phone that was hacked to illegally unlock it and has been updated or restored.

    Has the software on your phone been modified before you tried to update the firmware? If yes, jailbreaking the phone could be the reason for your problem.
    If the device has not been jailbroken, try these steps:
    Restart the iPhone.
    Try another means of reaching the activation server and attempt to activate.
    Try connecting to a known-good Wi-Fi network if you're unable to activate using a cellular data connection.
    Try connecting to iTunes if you're unable to activate using Wi-Fi.
    Restore the iPhone.
    If you receive an alert message when you attempt to activate your iPhone, try to place the iPhone in recovery mode and perform a restore. If you're still unable to complete the setup assistant due to an activation error, contact Apple for assistance.

    You can't. It requires a SIM to activate. There is no way around it. The SIM does not have to be tied to active service, but it must be present and it must be from the correct carrier if the phone is carrier locked.

    You must put in the required information. If you do not have it, you must get it from the original owner of the phone. If you have forgotten your iCloud password, you can reset it at:

    There is no such thing as an activation "bypass". Activation Lock is a security feature. It wouldn't be that secure is you could bypass it, wouldn't it?

    It sounds as if you have a locked device. It may have been hacked to use on your network earlier, but if you updated the software it is locked again. You need to find out who the carrier is for the device, see if they offer unlocking services. If they do, see if you qualify, if you do follow their instructions. If they do not offer unlocking or you do not qualify, there is nothing that you can do.
