Failed to add any email service to Thunderbird on Ubuntu: "username or password invalid"

I failed to add gmail and other email imaps/smtps account to Thunderbird on one of my ubuntu machine, it keeps saying "username or password invalid" "Configuration could not be verified - is the username or password wrong?", but I am certain that i entered the correct info, I have two other machines, a Windows 7 and a Ubuntu laptop, both works perfectly with Thunderbird and the mail accounts, And I even reinstalled Ubuntu once but noting changed. I am sooo confused with this and I really don't know what to do next. So any help please?

Thunderbird will use 5 connections to get mail, and this can be reduced in Edit > account settings > server settings and click the advanced button.
Apple as I understand it has no such limiting option.
The maximum number of connections is set by your provider, you just have to live within that limit.

The machine is a PC desktop running Ubuntu. and I checked the advanced server setting, and I verified that the maximum number of connections to cache is 1, and thunderbird still won't accept any of my IMAP accounts T^T.

I can't add a second email account. I get a message next to the password field 'Username or password invalid'. I can login to gmail web ok, imap is enabled.

I have setup TB using a gmail account and is working fine. When I try to add another gmail account I get an error 'Username or password invalid'. I can login to this second gmail account through the web at gmail and the account has imap enabled.

I also tried deleting TB altogether and reinstalled trying the problem gmail account and it still didn't work.
While checking on the 2-factor authentication, which I don't use, i noticed something. The working gmail account allowed 'access for less secure apps' and my problem account didn't. I enabled that and was able to add it to TB. All works now!
Not sure if the less secure apps is a good thing, but its working.

Can't add ANY email accounts to iPhone

I can't add any email accounts to my iPhone's mail application. (it used to work just fine) I have tried to enter my account information using my yahoo, gmail, and exchange and none work. I enter my account information and after it verifies it takes me to "account" which is only a blank screen. I have tried entering account information both directly on the mail app and under settings.
Anyone having a similar problem? anyone have any ideas of how to fix or what's wrong?

Have you tried Resetting All Settings? To do so, navigate to Settings > General > Reset.
If that doesn't work, restoring the iPhone and setting it up as a new phone (instead of restoring from backup) should ultimately resolve the issue.

Sky email is provided by Google now. Have you tried logging in via webmail on a desktop computer? Occasionally Google asks you to verify your account by entering a CAPTCHA which can't be done in a dedicated email client.
If that doesn't help, try removing and then re-setting up the account, following the directions here:

You need to ask Apple to reset your security questions; this can be done by phoning AppleCare and asking for the Account Security team, or clicking here and picking a method, or if your country isn't listed in either article, filling out and submitting this form.
They wouldn't be security questions if they could be bypassed without Apple verifying your identity.

Thunderbird says 'username or password invalid' when it is not

I have just installed Thunderbird on a new computer and am trying to set up my email accounts. However I keep getting the error 'username or password is invalid'.
I have checked both several times and re-entered them. They are correct. I can log into my webmail with them no problem. I have confirmed all my settings are correct, both against those provided by my email provider and against another thunderbird instance I have on a different computer.
I know that all my details are correct, but Thunderbird still thinks they are not and won't let me procede any further. What is causing this and how do I fix it?

New install and can not setup account for that reason usually indicated anti virus problems (it's firewall component blocking internet access to Thunderbird or the ports used for mail. They differ to webmail)
Best test is reboot in safe mode with networking and see if that works.

Uninstalled chromium, tbird can't access my gmail any more. Reinstalled tbird, tells me 'username or password is incorrrect' when it is not.

Used tbird for my gmail for years with no problem. Uninstalled chromium browser and suddenly tbird was getting a 'connection refused' message. Tried everything. Completely uninstalled/reinstalled tbird. It made no difference. I get a username or password incorrect. (It's not). This sounds like the two factor authentification thing but I don't know how to fix it. I went all over gmail settings looking for the two factor auth thing and found '2 Step Verification' which is disabled. What happened and how do I get tbird back to working with my gmail accounts? Rebooted system (Linux Mint 14 - 64 bit) and tried tbird with nothing else started. It made no difference. Same error message when I try to set up the gmail account. "Configuration could not be verified - is the username or password wrong?". If I go to manual config for account setup I get the additional msg "Thunderbird failed to find the settings for your email account." This sound like the symptom for the 2 factor auth failure in another question but there was nothing about how to fix it.

Web service functions in SSO without username and password

Is there a way to use the Public Report Web Service functions when configured in SSO and without passing a username and password? I was able to try out the web service and make it work. As we all know, you need to pass a username and password for each web service call unless your reports can be accessed by guests. In an SSO + LDAP server configuration, there are cases in which you are not allowed to get the password. The password can not be decrypted.
Is there a way to still use web service? or do you need to use the url approach instead? But if you use the url approach then you may be limited to generating reports only.
I'm thinking there should be since if you are already logged in for SSO then you should be able to generate.
Any way to configure this?

I'm trying to access a forum that requires a user name and password. When I do it on my mac it tells me the password is incorrect but when I do it on my iPad, I can access it without any problem. I can confirm the username and password are the same

I am trying to access a forum for which you need a username and password but it keeps telling me the username/password i've entered are incorrect. Bizarrely, when I enter the same username/password combination on my iPad, it grants access without any problem.
What could be causing this, is it an issue with cookies, caches or similar. How can I resolve it? The forum administrator is at a loss as to what the problem is.

Try the following steps in Safari to see if they help:
1) First try clearing the Safari cache. To do this pull down the Safari menu and select 'Empty cache...', then try logging into the site again.
2) If the issue continues then reset Safari by pulling down the Safari menu and select'Reset Safari...'. You will be presented with a list of items that can be reset. I suggest selecting the 'Reset saved names and passwords', and 'Remove all website data' options at a minimum.
Here is a list of the options and what they do. I pulled it from the Safari help page.
Clear history:
Clears the list of webpages you viewed.
Reset Top Sites:
Clears any changes you made to Top Sites, such as adding or pinning sites. If you also clear your history, your Top Sites page reverts to showing the webpage previews displayed when you first installed Safari.

Check capitalization. The password is certainly case-senstive, and your username/email address might be as well. In the case of the password, you must get it exactly right. In the case of the username/email address, you can usually enter it as all lower case. Also, try your username with the @gmail.com suffix; your username might not be accepted without it.

I am using another program that sends email through Thunderbird. When I open thunderbird and send a message directly it will send it fine. When I send a message through the other program it opens Thunderbird and creates the mail but requires me to put in the SMTP password. When I do it sends the mail out fine and will continue to work fine until I close our Thunderbird. I do not have the master password option set so I should not have to put in my password. Any help would be great.
