Failed to control Internal Mic volume!

Hi,
I’m trying to run a JAVA application which control Microphone volume. I’ve tested and its working most of the sound device. But I’m facing problem with only SigmaTel which have Internal and External Mic. Only case, if Internal Mic is selected, I can’t control Mic volume.
Any help will be appreciated!
Thanks in advance,
ARIF

Hi,
Can you please let me know how to control the Microphone volume using Java program.
Thanks in Advance,

  • Imac 24" internal mic volume issues

    Hi,
Im having a problem with the volume of the internal microphone on my 24" imac (2.8 ghx, osx 10.6.4). When I am trying to use msn video chat (yeah i know i shouldn't use msn at all but my girlfriend insists on it) the volume keeps dropping while I am trying to use it, sometimes to the point where the other person cant hear me. I can watch this happening in the settings but all i can do is turn it back up. Ive checked on google and other people seem to ave had this problem but i couldnt find a solution.
Any help with this would be hugely appreciated,
    Thanks

some say a resetting of the PRAM at restart worked.
but it did not for me:
    Same problem here:
neither in Skype nor in Quicktime audio recording does the microphone pick up a reasonable level.
The mike does not seem broken though, as if I put the input level at maximum in the system preferences pane: sound (and check "use ambient noise reaction") there is some reaction if I tap on the frame of the iMac or literally yell into the iMac. (the Quicktime recording then registers the voice, but only faintly).
I have done a Pram reset/restart, to no avail so far and am hoping for some bright solution in this forum.
One reason for the error might be that when a local Apple store recently replaced the Airport antenna-module on my iMac (it had failed completely after around 3 years) they might have done something to the mike wiring...

  • Inspiron 1525 not able to select internal mic for webcam, nor is it showing up on Control Panel, Sound, Audio Devices

Initial problem was Dell Webcam video recording records no sound.
In Control Panel, Device Manager, Sound Video and Game Controllers there are two High Definition Audio Devices listed: Location 1 (Internal High Definition Audio Bus) - I deduce this is the internal mic; and Location 2 (Internal High Definition Audio Bus) - I deduce this is external microphone jack. Both have the same driver version.
The Control Panel, Sound, Recordings Tab showed 2 devices that looked identical except the bars that show green with volume were only on the first one, which is also the default one, and would detect sound if you got real close to the webcam mic when talking. Both devices displayed as 'working'.
Accessories, Sound Recorder recordings are silent no matter how close you get to internal webcam mic.
Dell WebCam Audio Source tab has two selections, both reading Microphone (3 - High Definition Audio Device). Both selections record sound with the EXTERNAL MIC jack. There is no way to select the internal webcam mic, it is not an option.
Per instructions found on the web, I uninstalled the first device only in Device Manager and rebooted. The same driver version as before was installed. But now the settings have changed. Device Mgr still shows Loc 1 and Loc 2. However, under the Sound, Recordings tab there are still 2 devices, but the first one says 'currently unavailable' , is still the default, and the sound bars that go green for audio testing are on the SECOND device now instead of the first one. If you check the Properties for each device, they BOTH are showing the same location Location 2 (Internal High Definition Audio Bus), i.e., the external mic jack.  Loc 1 device (built in mic) is not showing up!!
Accessories Sound Recorder works with the EXTERNAL mic. (How does it know which one to use, it's not giving me a choice?)
So the Location 1 device (internal mic) is not showing up anywhere besides the device manager. I want to use the internal mic for skype and webcam. Somehow I need to get the Loc 1 device to show up on the Sound - Recording tab and in the Webcam Audio Source list? What do I do?
Thank you in advance for your help.

    This is Vista.
Go to the Inspiron 1525 support page. Find the small blue "Change OS" and click on the arrow. Select Vista. Then download and install these 3 items with a restart between each one.
    1. Dell System Software in the System Utilities category.
    2. Intel Mobile Chipset in the Chipset category.
    3. Sigmatel audio driver in the Audio category.
See if it works any better after you get the Sigmatel driver installed.

  • My beats studio 2013 work fine on my ipad but the mic/ volume control doesn't work on my iphone 5

My beats studio 2013 work fine on my ipad but the mic/ volume control doesn't work on my iphone 5. Can anyone help me?

    Thanks, daniel.early79!
I have an iPhone5 bought in late Dec 2012.
I've noticed on rare occassions that the volume down button some times would not respond.
Starting yesterday, the volume down button would not respond more consistently.
Sometimes a reset would fix it, sometimes a reset network would fix it, but the problem would come back.
Came across this thread, and pressing gently on the upper right hand corner fixed it!
I remember seeing some video on Youtube or iFixit that shows how to replace the power button. It appears that the volume buttons and the power buttons are tied in together on the same piece of connector. I supposed taking the iphone in and out of cases may have warped or twisted the connector inside the case ever so slightly that the sensor for the down volume button got shifted.
The down volume button works now, after doing the trick you suggested. I'll wait and see if it comes back before taking it in for warranty repair.

  • Internal Mic in MacBook Pro 9,2 (mid-2012)

I'm trying to get my internal mic to work after my recent install on a MacBook Pro 9,2 (mid-2012), but without much success.  I've installed alsa, alsa-utils, alsa-plugins, etc., and audio output works fine, but the internal microphone still doesn't work.  In alsamixer (after F5 to see all), I see Master, Headphone, Speaker, Bass Speaker, PCM, Mic Boost, Mic Boost, S/PDIF, S/PDIF Default PCM, S/PDIF 1, S/PDIF 2, S/PDIF 16, Capture, Auto-Mute Mode, and Digital.  All are unmuted and turned up, and Auto-Mute Mode is set to disabled.

The microphone works in Mac OS X, so it's not a hardware issue.  I've scoured the Wiki and forums and tried a few different things (experimenting with alsamixer, loading a few kernel modules), but nothing has worked.
    Any help is appreciated.

Yes, I've tried that.  My /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf looks like this.

  • Make internal mic usable

I should admit I don't really feel I've got to grips at all with how sound works in Linux (or generally).
    What I think I'm doing/have done:
    - using ALSA (I tried PulseAudio but couldn't get it to work)
    - unmuted channels etc. using alsamixer
    - got ALSA to save sound settings and to restore on reboot using asound.state
    - got sound from internal speakers to work OK for playback e.g. KDE plays sounds, Skype has audio, even music seems to work
    - persuaded Skype not to mute sound or disable microphone
    - got volume control and mute buttons on keyboard to work (OK - I didn't really have to do anything to get this to work, it just worked)
    - got the internal microphone to record sound which I can then play back
    --- this works with e.g.
    arecord -d 5 /tmp/test.wav
    aplay /tmp/test.wav
    - got the internal microphone to record sound when using Skype and to send audio to person at other end of call
What I need to do and can't get to work:
    - make microphone work properly
Whether I test with arecord/aplay or I speak to somebody via Skype, the result is unusable. Somebody at the other end of the line today said they could hear me - just about given the sound of the jet engine. Needless to say, there was no jet engine in my office at the time. The noisiest thing (apart from me) was my laptop's (relatively quiet) fan.
Reading the docs for hd-audio, I set Digital Capture Volume to exactly 50%. I also tried setting mic analog boost to 0. This makes both me and the jet engine much quieter but doesn't solve the basic problem of the jet engine.
Because I don't really understand how this stuff works, I tried setting Digital Capture Volume to 0. That gets rid of both the jet engine and me. I also tried setting the Capture to 0. Again, that pretty much got rid of both of us.
The wiki for Skype suggests some Skype specific things but I don't think this is a Skype issue because arecord/aplay has the same problem. For example https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Sk … -bit_OS.29 sounds like a similar problem but (1) is Skype specific, and (2) seems to apply only to PulseAudio.
In configuring sound, I found the following (from /proc as explained in the wiki, I think, and certainly in the hd-audio docs):
    Codec: Conexant CX20590
    Codec: Intel CougarPoint HDMI
The docs for hd-audio don't list CX20590 and at the moment I'm letting ALSA figure things out for itself.
    $ aplay -l

In KDE, I get a really long list of devices though I suspect most of them are simply the same device over and over with slightly different names. Phonon is using the GStreamer backend. The VLC backend is also installed.
In the system settings panel for phonon and for recording, KDE lists two devices in this order (topmost preferred):
    HDA Intel PCH (CONEXANT Analog)
       1. ALSA: x-phonon:CARD=0,DEV=0
       2. ALSA: plughw:CARD=0,DEV=0
HDA Intel PCH, CONEXANT Analog (Default Audio Device)
       1. ALSA: default:CARD=PCH
       2. ALSA: sysdefault:CARD=PCH

I finally found some hint about this although it seems to concern a different laptop and I'm not sure it is the same problem. The test command given didn't work on mine but an adapted version did:
    arecord -vv -f S16_LE -c 2 /tmp/new.wav
This produces a recording which is significantly more bearable although by no means noise free. It also gives me this output:

So I guess a few questions. I don't really know what this does but is there a way to improve the recording further? Regardless of the answer to that, is there a way of getting an application such as Skype to do something similar? I guess it doesn't use arecord in any straightforward way and I don't see anywhere obvious to configure options which might correspond to this.
I know I'm telling arecord to use 16bit Little Endian format and to use both channels of the capture device. (I tend to read man pages before running command of the net to at least check what I can. I wasn't sure about the bit which didn't work but it was meant to name a device and since this is a different machine, I'm not surprised if that didn't work right - although it didn't give an error which made that obvious...) But I don't see anything like that in Skype's configuration panels?
EDIT: I have a feeling that on mine, the original suggestion:
    arecord -vv -f S16_LE -c 2 -D hw:0,0 new.wav
tried to use a different device than the microphone which didn't work very well.
EDIT: I realise that I forgot to include the following. I'm not sure if it is relevant since it is not exactly that my sound doesn't work - just a bit of it doesn't work right. But in any case:
    $ lsmod | grep snd
    snd_hda_codec_hdmi 22092 1
    snd_hda_codec_conexant 46694 1
    snd_hda_intel 22122 2
    snd_hda_codec 79309 3 snd_hda_intel,snd_hda_codec_conexant,snd_hda_codec_hdmi
    snd_hwdep 6357 1 snd_hda_codec
    snd_pcm 74496 3 snd_hda_codec,snd_hda_intel,snd_hda_codec_hdmi
    snd_page_alloc 7185 2 snd_pcm,snd_hda_intel
    snd_timer 19544 1 snd_pcm
    snd 58362 12 thinkpad_acpi,snd_timer,snd_pcm,snd_hwdep,snd_hda_codec,snd_hda_intel,snd_hda_codec_conexant,snd_hda_codec_hdmi
    soundcore 6210 1 snd
    $ ls -l /dev/snd/
    total 0

  • How to enable internal mic

how to enable internal mic on HP Pavilion dv5. I disabled it by mistake and don't how to enable it again

Try to click on the speaker icon in the lower right and then click on the mixer button on the bottom and see if you can turn it on there.  You can also go into control panel, click on sound and look in the recording tab.

  • Internal mic/garage band

Hi. I'm wondering if anyone has had trouble with a macbook's internal mic for recording a vocal in garagband? I thought maybe it was the mic itself but it seems to work okay in other apps. But in GB no matter the volume setting when recording or distance from mic it sounds----crappy! Distorted etc...is there some setting within GB I should be looking at? I'm not trying to get professional quality - just scratch vocal/demo (as I had done with G4 iBook and GB). Thanks for your help.
    Bob

i know that this is an old post, but i just experienced this problem with my new macbook. i noticed the poor obscenely poor quality of the internal mic in garageband would kick in after about 7 seconds of recording. in system preferences under the sound tab and the input tab, i unchecked "use ambient noise reduction". the g4 powerbooks (which is what i owned before) did not have that option. so unchecking that option seemed to help my problem...

  • Mic volume probl

hi, i have a Creative Sound Blaster Audigy SE 7.. i never really wanted to use a mic on it until now. I plugged it in and spoke on Teamspeak. The other poeple say sound comes out, but the volume is really really low. I tried searching for a mic boost, but the option wasn't in the sound settings in the control panel. I also can't find the mic volume controller. Is there anyways to get my mic volume to go up? Btw, i am running Vista. Help is appreciated.

I have said card, and it has no mic boost.
I got the boost to work via windows registy.....see thread.
It worked for me, but it seems some have problems with it.
Take care if you try it, and back up registry first.

    Hello schneids,
I see that you are having start up problems with your HP computer. I have a couple of suggestions that may help with your issues.
Here is a link to some troubleshooting steps that may help resolve your issues.
If you are still having trouble I would suggest testing the power adapter or trying a different power adapter. Most retailers will let you try a power adapter on the computer to see if it works.
    Let me know what happens.

  • Auto-Adjust disabled; mic volume still adjusts.

I have the volume auto-adjust turned off on Skype. Yet the mic volume still automatically adjusts in skype. I often run two instances of Skype. On both accounts, I have the Volume Auto-Adjust option disabled. I have even gone into my computer's hardware settings, and disabled the setting that allows applications to take exclusive control of the microphones I use. Whether the mic is built-in, or USB, Skype still automatically adjusts its volume. I've tried three different microphones and it automatically adjusts all of them. I use Windows 7, 64. Skype is up to date. Any help would be appreciated.

I have a Razer Megalodon.  I have used it for a couple years just fine with Ventrilo, Mumble, Raid Call, Teamspeak 1 & 2, others, AND Skype.  No problems, until my most recent re-install of Skype.  I had Skype uninstalled for several months because i wasn't playing the game(s) that my online friends used Skype as a Voice Client.  I recently started playing again, and reinstalled Skype (latest Installer).  Now it seems my Microphone Level in the System Sound Options panel (Open Sound Devices> Recording> Microphone Properties> Level) gets auto-managed regardless of the settings in Skype.  This is brand new behavior on my system and only happened after installing Skype.  It seems to lower the Mic Level in my system even when Skype is closed (R-Click skype in Notification Area> Quit... Then I check Task Manager for Skype in Processes and in Services> End Task/Process Tree if still running).  Every time i try to check the way it works in my other voice clients and in the "Microphone Setup Wizard" in windows, the Auto-Leveling behavior is there, even when disabled/turned off in ALL other Microphone using programs including Windows.  When i Adjust Skype's Microphone Level from Max to 75%, i can watch the System's Microphone Level drop to 0.  When i move the Skype Microphone Level to 0, then move the System Microphone Level to 2 (yes two) it jumps Skype's Microphone Level to Max. Yes, i have disabled any and all "Application Control / Exclusive Mode" options in Windows and all my Voice Clients including Skype.  With a little digging, anyone reding this can find that there are settings on the Headset as well... again, i have been using this headset for years without issue, i know how to set it up.  As you can imagine, it makes my voice either too soft/muffled to hear, or overpowering with reverb/echo/feedback.  As mentioned before, this is NEW behavior since the latest re-install of Skype, and it is affecting my entire system and other Voice Clients now, wheather Skype is running or not.  I hope this behavior is not intended by design.  I understand the need for Auto-Leveling for those who can't be arsed to learn how their PC works beyond the "Push the Power Button Crowd," however to force those who know how to use a PC (built mine from scratch) and manage their settings properly to use this Auto-Leveling by making it "Always On" is no less than insulting.  Please, Please!, tell me this is an accidental side effect and not another intentional "Dumbing Down" tactic by MS.

  • HP Pavilion g7 Notebook PC - Can't get internal mic to shut off or sync with webcam

I'm not really sure what happened. I was trying out my headset with inline mic on my PC and it didn't work the only thing that worked was my internal mic. I did disable my internal mic at one point but turned it back on when I realized that didn't make it work either so I promptly turned my internal mic back on. However, now I am left with hearing myself type and the outside noises even hearing instantly the curses I use at my computer. I can turn the volume down and not hear anything, but when I try and record a video I can't hear myself at all; the mic isn't recordng me and the webcam video is laggy. (the listen back button is unchecked) but when I check the listen back button I can hear me type and I can hear myself on the recorded video.
Basically, I just want my computer to work how it did before I tried to get my headset mic to work.

    Hello eerilyquiet,
I would like for you to use Recovery Manger to restore your software and drivers.  Please let me know if these troubleshooting steps help resolve your issue.
    Good luck!
