Failed to download iOS 5 on iPod touch - please help?

I've tried to download iOS5 onto my iPod touch, following the instructions to first wipe it and restore it - it restore with the old 4. version, not the iOS5.  How can I get it to download iOS 5? Thanks

Are you sure you have a 3G or 4G iPod Touch? Only those generation iPod Touch models can be updated to iOS 5.  If you have a 2G iPod Touch, it can only be updated to iOS 4.2.1.

  • ITunes Fails To Download iOS For iPod Touch In Recovery

I have an iPod Touch 5 (without camera) that was messed with by someone and ended up disabled for 45 years. As waiting 45 years until I can put in the pass code is not practical, *snickers* I put the iPod into Recovery Mode and went to restore it on iTunes (latest version running on Windows 8), and it wants to update the software to the latest version with the restore. All is well and it starts downloading the around 1.4GB software download. My internet is fairly slow currently. It will get awhile in (about 70-80mb) and a message pops up saying that the internet connection timed out or some similar message appears. When I try again it completely restarts the download. I have tried about three times. I have also restarted the computer. How can I get it to download or even skip the update completely? I have 45 years but id like to get it fixed sooner. lol

It is safe to use but frequently the iPod encountered an error and got the iPod in recovery mode and you have to restore the iPod to correct the error,

  • HT4436 I am using IOS 4.1 in Ipod touch. I would like to take my data back using icloud. I am not able to enable icloud in to my ipod touch. please help me for the same.

I am using IOS 4.1 in Ipod touch. I would like to take my data back using icloud. I am not able to enable icloud in to my ipod touch. please help me for the same. Basically I am trying to take back to upgrade my ios to 5 or 6 version.

You can't back up to iCloud until you update to iOS 5 or higher.  You will have to back up your iPod on your computer using iTunes.  Update iTunes on your computer to the latest version, then connect your iPod to your computer, open iTunes, if iTunes give you a pop-up asking if you want to update your iPod, decline.  Then click on the name of your iPod in iTunes, go to File>Devices>Transfer Purchases to transfer any purchased media to your iTunes library.  Next, go to the Summary tab of your iTunes sync settings and click on Back Up Now to back up your iPod on your computer.
When it's done backing up, click on Check for Update (or Update) on the Summary tab of your iTunes sync settings.  Allow your iPod to update, and leave it connected to your computer.  At the end, it will restart and give you the option to restore to the iTunes backup you made earlier.  Choose this option to restore your backup and sync your apps and other iTuens media to your phone.
This process is outlined in this article: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4972, under "If you are attempting to update using a Mac or PC with which you normally sync".

Just a guess here, but it sounds like iTunes is under the impression that some of the song files it is managing are located on a removable drive. Do all of your songs play from iTunes? That might be hard to know if you have thousands of songs, but if a song was imported into iTunes, but the file was deleted afterward (like if you used removable media), you might get a warning like that, and the song wouldn't play in iTunes. Just a thought.

  • Can I use more than 1 laptop to download iTunes for iPod touch please

Can I use more than 1 laptop to download iTunes to iPod touch?

My daughter disabled her iPod we took it into the shop to reset it but when I'm starting to add details again it says connect to iTunes we have never used a laptop with this as ours is broken. Someone has offered to do it on their laptop that's why I have asked. Is there no way we could use another laptop in the future. We only buy iTunes cards for it at the moment.

Connect the iOS device to your computer and restore via iTunes. Place the iPod in Recovery Mode if necessary to allow the restore.
If recovery mode does not work try DFU mode.

  • Several issues with iPod touch. please help!

Ok. So i have several issues going on with my iPod touch. i got it for Christmas in 2010, i have recently updated it. after the update these issues have happened.
    1. Screen won't rotate. Photos won't rotate. The screen won't rotate for horizontal keyboard use. Even for some apps that you have to rotate the screen, it just wont rotate. i have tried everything! i have read other discussions about this issue and they said there is a lock with an arrow around it in the top right corner, in my ipod there is not.
    2. After i updated my iPod i noticed about 20 of my songs went missing! they are no where to be found on my iPod AND my iTunes! I purchased all of those 20 songs and am kind of mad they randomly disappeared. i have looked in every place a song could be and they are not there.
    3. I have recently downloaded some apps and wheni went to try them, they would almost load and then crash and go back to the home screen. a bunch of my apps do that now. i have tried restarting my iPod and i have tried to open the apps like a million times and everytime they crash and goes to the home screen of my iPod. they are all free apps. some of the apps are: Impossible Test: summer, angry birds, angry birds: rio, angry birds: seasons. some of them i have been able to play a couple times, then they randomly stared crashing.
someone please help me with these problems! thank you!

    For #1:
    - Have you restored the iPod from backup?
    - Have your restored the iPod to factoery defaults/new iPod?
If restoring from backup does not solve a problem then your likely have a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.
    For #2:
If you are in the USA and using the latest iTunes then you can redownload music via the iCloud beta.  See:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
Otherwise you can contact iTunes and they MAY allow a redownload.  See:

  • I can't find the Apps button in my ipod touch, please help.

I can't find the Apps button in my ipod touch.
I already downloaded some applications in itunes, hoping to sync it to my ipod touch. However, there is no button for Apps in my ipod touch.
And in the partitions of my ipod touch memory (music, photos, videos), there is no space for Applications.
    Please help, thanks!

Oh this is quite easy to solve!
    1) First connect iPod to computer
    2) Launch iTunes
    3) On the left hand side of iTunes, under Library, there is an Apps header?
    4) When you click on that, you should see your downloaded apps?
    5) A little lower down, you'll see your iPod under Devices, drag apps over your iPod's list (over the music, photos, videos area as you mentioned), you'll that that area is highlighted, release left mouse button to drop them apps!
    6) Copying ensues ...
    7) Check iPod
    8) Back at iTunes, click on your iPod's name, look at the right side, you'll see a summary page right?
    9) At the top of that page, one of the menu item is Apps, click on that and you'll see a replica of sorts of your iPod, unchecking apps (or selecting by checking) and then hitting Apply button below, will apply the changes you made onto your iPod.
    10) You can also arrange your iPod from there if you like.
That was a lot of steps, but its pretty simple to perform, and the last few wasn't really neccessary, it does look more impressive to write a long list of steps however.

  • Itunes cant read my ipod touch, please help!

I've had this problem a LOOT and i looked into it on apple support, tried calling, i even took it into the store and they couldn't help me any more than resetting my firmware to factory settings. I've even reset it myself a few times and this is an ipod touch 4th gen IOS 6. Please help due to the fact that it's tiring to keep resetting to factory settings! i plugged it in to make a backup and now i can't because of this. I have lots of music and movies so Pleaaase help.

  • Restoring app saves after resetting iPod Touch (PLEASE HELP!)

Not so long ago I realised that my iPod Touch was lagging a bit. Anyway, almost everywhere I looked said that I should backup my data (which I thought I had done, as I had followed every step according to iFunBox), beforehand.
So, anyway, now that I have reset it, all my games (bar the odd Facebook synced app), want me to restart. I have logged into Game Center, tried to get iFunbox to put the files back on, etc. but nothing works.
Does anyone know how I can get all my saves back (there's been a fair bit spent on these games so I will be really disgruntled if I have to restart).
    Thanks guys

  • ITunes library not syncing to iPod touch, please help!!!

Hi! I hesitated to upgrade to iOS 6.0.1 until all my songs from my iPod disappeared (but all the songs are still in iTunes library). I thought it was the problem with the software, so I upgraded my iPod to the current version iOS 6.0.1 and itunes to 10.7.
I am on a Window 7 OS. I tried to uninstall the iTunes software, and tried installing it again. I thought the Apple Mobile Device was disabled, but no. I tried restarting it from Administrative Tools. Not working as well. I don't want to restore to the manufacture version since I have so many things on my iPod. It would be great if you guys can suggest something other than restoring. Thank you so much!

ok, so i figured this out... when i connect my ipod and go to the "tv shows tab" i had the option to sync only the "unwatched episodes" checked. so the shows that i watched on my computer would not download to my iPod. If you select "all" instead of "unwatched" then all of the tv shows regardless if you have watched them or not, will begin to download... Thanks for the help everybody

  • Various problems with my ipod touch please help

    Hi,
I need help yesterday when i plugged my ipod in to update my podcasts like i do every morning I kept getting an error message that i can't remember and then when it was finished syncing there was no content on it. then i started getting the error message that my account had been disabled due to security purposes???  anyway i went to work (without my ipod...tourture!) and when i got back i tried to sync it again only this time my ipod was giving me the message that it couldn't be synced because there was not enough space but i my ipod is a 32 gb and when i clicked on the ipod screen the bar at the bottom had my usual adudio and video content (the space that it uses) but then the rest of the bar was yello (other content?) and I don't know what it is and its taking all the space up on the ipod. so i tried restoring it but the same thing would keep happening. so i uninstalled itunes piece by piece (to my dismay i lost everything in my library and it won't open now. I went to teh apple website to try and download the itunes but it kept telling "now that you've downloaded itunes lets get started" but nothing had actually downloaded! i finally got the 32 bit version to install but now when i try to open itunes it won't and gives me the error message that "itunes can't be opened because it was created by a new version". i have lost everything and now i can't even use my ipod. i paid 3 or 4 hundred dollars for this about two years ago not to mention all the content i have already purchased and its all lost and I don't have any warranty. Can anyone help????

    - Try completely removing and reinstalling all the Apple software using these instructions:
Removing and reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows Vista or Windows 7
    - The try restoring the iPod via iTunes.  First try restoring from backup. If still problem then restore to factoery defaults/new iPod
    - If you can't restore, try placing the iPod in recovery mode and then restoring.  For recovery mode see:

  • Itunes (Mac) won't recognize ipod touch - please help!!

Hi. I have a brand new 4th-gen ipod Touch. I'm running Snow Leopard and iTunes 10.4.1 on a Macbook. I have three other ipods (classic, shuffle x 2) and they all work fine. THe USB cable and port work fine with other ipods (and with this one on the rare occasions it works properly) and the ipod touch, when it's cooperating, seems to function OK so I don't think it's a hardware failure. It hasn't been dropped/wet, and I've only used it for 4 days.
Bit of a saga and I'm getting seriously fed up!
The ipod touch synced OK the first time I went to set it up, I installed some music/apps and all seemed fine. Then the next time itunes wouldn't recognize it so I couldn't sync (it just charges through the USB but does nothing else). So I ran through all the suggested tests on Apple support (turning on/off, checking I had the right versions of stuff, etc), that didn't help so I uninstalled and reinstalled itunes 10. That worked, and the ipod touch synced and I was able to use it again. BUT, the day after that, it went back to not being recognized. Tried everything again, reinstalled itunes - that worked. Then the next day... not recognized again!
So I phoned Apple support, and the guy told me to hard reset and restore factory settings, which I did but it failed: first time it didn't restore (was just same as before). Second time I tried it froze and I got Error #1611. Tried again and got Error #1618 which isn't even listed on the Apple Support page the error message links to (by this stage it was showing the plug into itunes screen you get when you first turn it on, but only when plugged into a USB port - wouldn't turn on when not connected). So I called Apple Support again (different person this time) and was told it was a possible hardware failure and I should take it to my local Apple Reseller.
Apple Reseller staff looked at it, confirmed that it'd only turn on when connected to computer, so they plugged it into one of theirs and restored the factory settings. THis time successful (ipod working again) but went to sync to itunes and AGAIN it wouldn't recognized it. Went through the whole uninstall/reinstall process for itunes and got the ipod to sync. But now.... not recognized again!! I can't keep uninstalling and reinstalling itunes every time I want to sync the ipod, that's just ridiculous.
Has anyone else had this problem? And does anyone know how to fix it?

I think I might have fixed it (touch wood, cross fingers, etc)...
    Here's what I did:
In Finder, under "Go", select "Go to folder".
When the box comes up, enter this folder name: /system/library/launchdaemons
    Click "go"
    Locate this file: com.apple.usbmuxd.plist~orig
    Put it in the trash
(NB: there's also a file called "com.apple.usbmuxd.plist" in that folder - don't touch that one)
    Restart computer
    Open itunes, connect ipod
If the ipod appears in itunes, restart and try again to confirm it's working.
This came from instructions someone else posted on another Apple discussion about an ipod touch not syncing. That reply said to do the software updates from the Apple menu first, but I did that and they failed to install but the above still worked, so the updates might not be necessary.

  • Major Issues with iPod Touch - Please help!

Hi, I am having major issues with my iPod, and nothing seems to be going right. It all started a few days after I got it for Christmas. I would wake up, and my iPod would be completely discharged even though it had a full battery and was turned off. I woke up one night and found that it came on all by myself. I sent it into iPod, and they sent it back saying nothing was wrong. Since I got it back today and within six hours, I have had four software crashes to the point where I have had to uninstall iTunes and restore factory settings four times. I am now on my fifth crash, but this time, the screen won't even come on. It keeps saying that it is in recovery mode. I simply went to turn it on! Does anyone have any suggestions? Personally, I think there is a short, and that I need a new a replacement. However, it doesn't seem like Apple is very supportive of the idea. I go through all of their steps over and over and over, and the same thing happens! What is going on? Please help.
    Marie

sounds like, for the charging problem anyways, that you are just putting ipod into "Stand by" mode... press and hold the power key for about 10 seconds and an option to power off will actually come on.. if u just press it and let go, it just goes to stand by.. i have noticed stand by drains my battery
also, it doesn't sound like a short to me... the charging i am pretty sure is bc you are only putting it into standby however, the rest sounds like software.. did u try and restore using itunes or did you just reset the factory defaults?? Plug it into itunes and click restore under the ipod menu...
