Hi,
The error translates to:The upgrade cannot be installed by the Windows Installer service because the program to be upgraded may be missing, or the upgrade may update a different version of the program. Verify that the program to be upgraded exists on your
computer and that you have the correct upgrade.
Could be a number of reasons, are you running the latest update of the client?

  • Novell Client 2 upgrade fails to install NICI (error 1603)

I have configured the automatic update agent to specifically use Administrator Privileges according to the documentation: http://www.novell.com/documentation/...ient_admin.pdf
When I run the update from "Novell Services" in system tray as a normal user the update completes with errors: fails to install NICI (error 1603).
When I do the exact same thing as an admin, everything works fine.
I'm am trying to update Novell Client 2 SP 1 (IR7) to Novell Client 2 SP 2 (IR2) on all of our workstations.
And I am seeing the exact same error when trying to upgrade:
    Novell Client 2 SP 1 (IR7) to Novell Client 2 SP 2
    Novell Client 2 SP 1 (IR7) to Novell Client 2 SP 2 (IR1)
What is going on here, is the update agent broken or am I doing something wrong?
I don't want all of my users getting errors when their Novell Client gets updated.

This error is found in "C:\ProgramData\Novell\Client\Log\NICIInst64.l og": Error 2103.Could not resolve path for shell folder 26
I think this has something to do with the MSI-setup (NICI_wx64.msi) not being able to find certain keys in the registry for some reason
Recently we had problem with an MSI-based Java-installation running with admin-privileges where it would fail if "Folder Redirection" was enabled. We had set My Documents to point to H:\ which was mapped via Novell as the home folder.
the registry settings for that are found under: [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders]. This however is NOT the problem here so the root cause for the error is still unclear to me.
Indeed, but remember we are troubleshooting the client here- it may be possible that there was some corruption in the first failed update. So thus removing any components and with a clean install of the Novell client, to try the update process again to ascertain were exactly the process may have failed by examining any logs and/or dumps.

  • SCCM Server says Forefront Endpoint Protection failed to install update(s)

I have a single SCCM 2012 SP1 CU4 server running on Windows Server 2012.  I primarily use this for Endpoint Protection and Windows Updates.
Recently I started seeing a lot of errors in the Endpoint Protection deployments.  This one has me baffled because the Endpoint Protection client on the machine says that it is up-to-date.  However, when I go to
Monitoring --> Deployments on the server, I see tons of errors that read "Failed to install update(s)."
Under the "Last Enforcement Error Code" heading, it reads:
    0x80070643.
I have spent several days searching about this, but the only info I can find is about Endpoint Protection
installation problems.  In my case, though, I have Endpoint Protection installed...it is the
update(s) that are showing the errors.

iTunes fails to install with error Ox800736FD. Any ideas?
Trying to install on a Acer Aspire-- no CD/DVD

    Ox800736FD
These ones are typically caused by underlying problems on the PC that also often cause Windows Updates to fail to install. If we can fix the Windows Update trouble, we can usually get the iTunes trouble cleaned up en passant.
Go into your Windows update and try to check for new updates. If updates install, stock up on the ones you're behind on, restarting the PC if requested to do so. After the restart, try installing iTunes again. Does it go through this time for you?
If windows updates fail to install, go into your Update History and doubleclick the failures. What alphanumeric codes appear for you? Are they also 800736FD, or some other number? (If they're another number, what number are you getting?)

  • TVSU fails to install updates on machine with 8.3 filenames disabled

    Hi all,
I have experienced TSVU (4.0) failing to install updates on some machines (W7 ultimate 64 bits), but working fine on some other similar equipped machines.
I have now investigated the issue, and browsing through logfiles on a working and non-working machine reveals that system update on one machine extracts the files using the command:
    os7005ww_64.exe /VERYSILENT /DIR=C:\PROGRA~2\Lenovo\SYSTEM~1\session\OS7005~2\
Both the "program files (x86)" and "system update" directories has been changed to their proper 8.3 names.
On the non working machine the call was:
    os7005ww_64.exe /VERYSILENT /DIR=C:\PROGRA~2\Lenovo\system update\session\OS7005~2\
But this string seems to not be quoted properly when executed, so all the extracted files end up in a new catalog:
    C:\PROGRA~2\Lenovo\system
From here all subsequent install calls then fails!
The problematic machine had the NTFS 8.3 filename creation disabled, i think this might be the culprit! I have now changed this to the deafult value, uninstalled TVSU, and rebooted.
But when i now try to install TVSU, it simply refuses It just pops up a windows installer window describing the command switches and exits.
    *sigh*
I think the 8.3 filename problem could be the cause of other people experiencing TVSU installer problems, and this should propably be looked at by lenovo?
The failure to install it anew, i haven't figured out yet - anyone???
    regards,
    Jesper

    Hi all
You can verify the status of the short name of the  "system update" directory  (the primary problem) by doing the commands below. The problem i think, starts when short name generaten is turned off when _installing_ TVSU. then the SYSTEM~1 shortname will not be generated, and the program will revert to use long names, but quoting them wrong!
    try:
    cd c:\program files (x86)\lenovo
    dir /n /x
IF TVSU is installed while short name generation is turned on (short name generated on install) you will get something like:
    20-01-2010  20:52    <DIR>                       .
    20-01-2010  20:52    <DIR>                       ..
    06-01-2011  10:30    <DIR>          ACCESS~1     Access Connections
    18-08-2009  14:11    <DIR>          ACTIVE~1     Active Update
    18-08-2009  14:19    <DIR>                       Dipmon
    18-08-2009  14:17    <DIR>                       FPIRPOn
    06-01-2011  10:25    <DIR>                       PkgMgr
    25-10-2009  19:14    <DIR>          SYSTEM~1     System Update
    15-10-2009  15:56            11.264              TVSU_TPC.DLL
Notice the SYSTEM~1 shortname, if installed using no short names, that place will be blank.
As an update i can tell i 'fixed' the machine having problems by enabling the short name generation and renaming, then copying the "system update" catalog, thus generating the short name for it - everything works again :-)
PS: as a side notice on a machine with short names disabled and running as a user with a space in the user name TVSU will not even install, as it messes up with the space in the temp directoy (in the users home catalog)
But somebody really should fix this, as it is very normal to read in tuning guides for SSD drives (Thinkpads with SSD anyone to disable this short name generation among other things...
    regards,
    Jesper

  • HT201366 Security Update 2013-003 keeps failing to install - 'Unexpected Error occurred' - and now my MacBook Pro is running extremely slowly?

I have repeatedly tried to update the software 'Security Update 2013-003' on my MacBook Pro OS X Version 10.7.5 but it keeps failing to install, stating that 'an Unexpected Error Occurred'.
Since the update failed the first time, my MacBook Pro has been running extremely slowly and failing to open basic apps like Mail and Safari at times.
All other updates have been successful apart from this one. I have made sure that my MacBook isn't full (emptied Trash etc) but it still runs really slowly at times so I think it's linked with the Security Update failure.

  • Fail to install/update issue

Hi, I'm a Japanese member here, but no one seems to be around in jp forum for months, so I decided to post here to get some advices.
I'm having some issues installing/updating flash to latest version.
    <My PC setup>
Win XP Pro  SP3(up to date) 32-bit
    Flash
    IE8: 11.9.900.170
    Firefox: 11.9.900.170
    (brouser: both latest version)
    <issue>
I fail to install after installer completes to download the package with an error message saying
    "general installation error" in japanese
(Sorry don't know how it's written in english version though) in both IE and firefox.
It seems that my xp refuses/stops to extract and install by some reason, and feels like it's due to some OS error.
I've serched for the deatil information about "general installation error" but have not found any clue yet.
I've done this job as admin, tried it with safe mode, or with all programs disabled, but the issue persists, no luck.
I've also defragged my hdd, checked hardware stuff and malware, but nothing wrong, My pc seems to be working fine except for this installation issue.
I'm recently having same types of issue installing some other applications too, so that I checked error logs on my xp, but no log related found.
Is there any information about this "general installation error" thing?
I've thought about Windows Installer error issue that might be causing this, so I've reinstalled and updated my installer files from 3.1 to 4.5 to see any improvement, but still no luck.
    Windows Installer 3.1 to 4.5
    updating
    msiexec.exe
    msihnd.dll
So, I uninstalled all my previous Flash and tried to reinstall all from fresh,  but failed as expected.
I now have no flash installed, that it's really big trouble now. Some part of sys. files or registry keys may be corrupting, but I'm not any expert for such, so can anyone sort this out for me?
I really want to avoid reinstalling xp, willing to provide more information if needed.
    Any advice appreciated.
    Regards
    Satoru

    Hi, Pat
Thanks for pointing me out some basics and for all the informations, while you are tired  late at night.
I've always wanted  to know where the log file for Flash is saved, and should've serched in this forum etc more carefully before posting any questions here.
(The " log " I wrote in the first post I saw was a log for application in Event Viewer to see any error for windows installer related, not for Flash itself, sorry for not making it clear)
Due to my work, I only have limited time to do this everyday, and didn't know the actual name for it, that I only serched for "Adobe" folders inside my PC to find log file, never thought about "Macromed" though.
Sorry everyone, my being such a noob.
Anyway, I've looked into log, and tried to understand it, by doing install > uninstall over and over again to recognize the behavior, to determine whitch info, is for IE or Firefox before posting,
so that I could understand more clearly when recieving any information from you and for my future knowledge.
But another issue occured during this reserch.
I couldn't uninstall Plug-in for Firefox(after my first offline installation) even if I used "Add and Remove Programs" for XP. and uninstaller(12.0.0.38) doesn't even run at all.
(Active-X for IE was succesfully removed by A&R Programs, and this uninstaller might  only work  for IE Active-X though, but no idea)
So I tried to uninstall it from A&R Programs again by overwriting plug-in(installing same plug-in again by offline installation) but still fails.
I did reboot every time I tried to remove it, but still located in Macromed\Flash folder and plug-in does disappears from the list of A&R Programs everytime I tried to remove it.
I've serched for informations about this issue on internet with limited time I had, but have no idea what causes this issue, and want to make this clear before I post log here to move on safely.
    Another thing,
I'm no tech of computing, cannot read commands written inside the log fully, and want to know some of their meanings.
    What does these mean?
    [ I ] ------install??
    [W] -----Write??
    [E] ------Error??
    [F] ------Fail??
    [ x ]0000xxxx ------ error number code?
[ x ]0000xxxx : xxxx ------- what does this one or four digit number means?
[error] 1257 0  or  1226 1062 ------- what are these combinations of one to four digit numbers mean?
I tried to serch for their meanings, but counldn't find anything clearly with time I had. Could  you teach me or show link in description if possible, so that I could understand well?
    Thanks for your cooperations.

  • KB3032622 fails to install with error 0x80070643

So we have a number of user systems and servers that think they need this update "Update for Microsoft Visual C++ 2012 Update 4 Redistributable Package (KB3032622)" but every time they attempt to install it errors. We have this issue on
Windows 7, 8.1, 2008 R2, and 2012.  I did the internet searching and found lots of people having various issues but no solid answers to a solution. So I went digging into the error logs and found this in the runtime log for the installer.
    MSI (s) (2C:B4) [08:50:33:969]: Product: Microsoft Visual C++ 2012 x64 Minimum Runtime - 11.0.61030 -- Error 1326.Error getting file security: C:\WINDOWS\system32\atl110.dll GetLastError: 5
    Followed by
MSI (s) (2C:B4) [08:50:34:103]: Windows Installer installed the product. Product Name: Microsoft Visual C++ 2012 x64 Minimum Runtime - 11.0.61030. Product Version: 11.0.61030. Product Language: 1033. Manufacturer: Microsoft Corporation. Installation success or error status: 1603.
So I went looking for that file and it does exist but the permissions on it were only for my user for some reason.  Looking at the ATL100.dll file it also has ALL APLICATION PACKAGES, SYSTEM, Administrators, Users so it makes no sense why the ATL110.dll
    has only my user.
I tried uninstalling the VC 2012 redistributables but it left behind that DLL with only my user permissions on it.  If I ran the VC 2012 x86 installer it would install no issue but if I ran the VC 2012 x64 one it would fail with the exact same error.
So I gave the EVERYONE permission to the DLL and that let the installer run and update the dll and it even corrected the permissions on it.
I've started looking at our other systems having this issue and I'm finding the same problem there too.  Instead of uninstalling I'm going to test just giving the EVERYONE group to that DLL and see if it fixes it.

    Hi,
Similiar issue has been discussed in the following link:
    https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windows/en-US/39a0e6bd-3e38-40c5-8681-6c2624b9041d/update-for-microsoft-visual-c-2012-update-on-windows-7?forum=w7itproinstall
I've tested in one of my my Windows 7 machine, checking for updates, and the update is longer available. If you've already found the update, please run the build-in Windows Update Troubleshooter (Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Troubleshooting\System
and Security\Windows Update) and check if it can help you fix the error.
Now, for Microsoft Visual C++ 2012 Update 4 Redistributable Package (KB3032622), we can download and install it via the following link
Visual C++ Redistributable for Visual Studio 2012 Update 4

I had read through that thread but the issue being discussed there is much different than the one I discuss here.  It might be the same top level error # but underneath it is completely different.
As I noted as well above using the manual installers does not resolve the particular issue I discovered.  Neither did uninstallation.  Only manually manipulating the security settings on the particular DLL resolved my issue.

  • Failed to download update Error 0x87d00669

    Hello @ll,
I try to implement SUP. The first deployment includes 102 updates. 101 are installed correctly, the last one failes. In the UpdatesHandler.log I found this entries:
Bundle update (ad99d2a2-9483-4a22-be93-b2f422024ba0) is requesting download from child updates for action (INSTALL) UpdatesHandler 01.08.2014 14:12:32 4076 (0x0FEC)

Seems that the update ad99d.... requires the update 26311... and can't download this. I filtered the software updates for the unique Update-ID ad99d... and find the update wich is listed in the SoftwareCenter on the client. If I filter for unique update
id 23611... there is no result.
I read some post, that 0x87d00669 means a reboot is required. Did a lot if reboots, rescans and so on. This updates keeps uninstalled and failes on download.
    Any idea?
    Kind regards,
    Dennis

  • StarOffice * fails to Install (Java error)

    Hi,
When I run ./setup the install fails with the following error:
Exception in thred "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: while resolving class: install at java.lang.VMClassloader.resolverClass(java.lang.Class) (/usr/lib/libgcj.so.5.0.0
Trying to install on Linux 4.0 WS.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks.

OK I am a big idiot. JRE 1.5 was not installed, at least not correctly (I downloaded it from the Sun page and installed it exactly as they said....sigh)
It now is installed correctly, as 'java -version' shows (getting this done was a journey in itself, resolved thanks to the good people at ubuntuforums). However, the command 'alien -i -k RPMS/*.i586.rpm' (entered while logged in as root) has so far resulted in an inactive Konsole screen for about 10 minutes now. I will leave it for a while to see if it is just my PC being slow, or if there is something wrong again...
Do Sun just not care about how infuriatingly difficult it is to install their software?

80070539 doesn't appear anywhere in my searches for a Windows Update error by that name.
There is a Win32 error code with the same name that appears to relate to security settings.
Also, quite a few of the search results mention the VSS service being related to this error.
Do you have a 3rd party firewall installed?  Try updating with it turned off (don't forget to turn it back on!)
Do you have any 3rd party anti-spyware/anti-virus tools that may be blocking things?
Have you tried clearing your cache and then updating?
Have you tried turning off UAC (don't forget to turn it back on!)?
Have you tried clearing the Software Distribution folder? (this is just a shot in the dark)
    To do this:
    - open an elevated command prompt and type "net stop wuauserv" (without the quotes) and press Enter
    - open an elevated instance of Windows Explorer, navigate to the Windows\SoftwareDistribution folder and delete everything inside of the folder (but not the folder itself).
    - go back to the elevated command prompt window and type "net start wuauserv" (without the quotes) and press Enter to restart the service.
    - then check for updates again.- John
