Failed to join domain through Azure's VPN
HI there,
I take advantage of Azure as our Active Directory DR site. I configured a VPN between our office and Azure.
I deployed a Windows Server 2012 R2 vm in Azure, installed ADDS on it and joined this vm to our existing domain in our office . When I promoted this vm to a domain controller, the prerequisite check I always got the following error message.
Verification of outbound replication failed. Error reading the options property of the NTDS settings. Unknown error (0x8000500c)
It was ok to join our existing domain through VPN, but it always stopped at this error message and failed to be promoted as a domain controller. Is there anything I should do to the VPN?
Douglas
Hi,
Firstly, please make sure that you have registered the DNS Server for your on-premise domain in Azure virtual network.
Azure OS drives have write caching enabled. It is recommended to add a second drive which will be a ‘Data Disk’ and the Active Directory NTDS database and SYSVOL should be placed on the new drive
which will have write caching disabled.
You can attach an empty disk for the Azure VM, then RDP into the VM and
create a new partition on the attached data disk and format this partition as a new
F: NTFS volume for NTDS DIT database, log and SYSVOL folder locations.
After that, you can install Active Directory Domain Services and promote this server to a Replica Domain Controller in an existing Active Directory domain. For more detailed information, please
refer to the link below:

MDT : Failed to join domain
Hello,
I am receiving the below error bdd.log and after that zero touch installation is failing.
Error in the logs : “Failed to join domain. The account may not have permission The specified network name is no longer available. (Error: 80070040; Source: Windows)”
Please let me know how to solve it
Regards,
Boopathi SHi Boopathi,
As per the description, I understand that it's an issue about Microsoft Deployment Toolkit.
The error message above indicates that the network resource that you specified was either temporarily taken offline or is no longer available. It is possible that:
The share at the server might have been temporarily deleted;
The server that shared the resource might have been turned off;
The permissions might have been changed.
You might want to check above aspects. Also, please note that this is the forum to discuss questions and feedback for
Microsoft Office client. Since your query is directly related to
Microsoft Deployment Toolkit, I would suggest you to post in the forum of

The words "join domain" don't mean anything. Could you provide more details about what it is you want to do? -
MDT Fail to Join Domain - ZTIDomainJoin.wsf Incorrect Function
I've got a large percentage of clients failing to run the Recover from Domain task. All I get in the smsts.log file is:
Failed to run the action: Recover From Domain.
Incorrect function. (Error: 00000001; Source: Windows) TSManager 7/18/2014 10:32:20 AM 3760 (0x0EB0)
ZTIDomainJoin.log doesn't even exist so I'm assuming the script doesn't run. Users have proper permissions since the same user is able to properly join the domain via MDT on other machines. This problem is sporadic and inconsistent.
Anybody else have this problem and/or know of a solution? It could be that the script crashed. Did you upgrade the deployment share recently? Can you run the script manually?
cscript.exe

Apply network settings join domain issues
I create a default task sequence in CM 2012 R2. On the apply network settings there is the option to join the domain. If I select to join to the domain, there is an account to set. I set the account and test the account (test button right there) and
the test to ad succeeds.
I then apply and close the task sequence. if you go back into the task sequence, and check the account to join domain, the password is now much longer than the original (only dots shown of course) and if I click test, the test FAILS.
I am not sure if that is the expected behavior or the root of my issue.
My issue is my machines are failing to join the domain. Under Windows\Pather\UnattendGC, I see a log file with the error, failed to join domain, error code 5 (something like that). When I look up that error, I see it means access denied.
Any ideas? The task sequence will never show the correct length of the password for security reasons, so that's the expected behavior.
Could you share what permissions you've given that account?
These are the permissions that I use:
Scope: This Object and all descendant objects
- Create Computer Objects
- Delete Computer Objects
Scope: Descendant Computer Objects
- Read All Properties
- Write All Properties
- Read Permissions
- Modify Permissions
- Change Password
- Reset Password
- Validated write to DNS host name
- Validated write to services principal name
This will work for every kind of deployment scenario that you may have to use the account in.

Windows Server 2012 R2 - Join Domain fails (Active Directory)
Well guys - I don't know what to do about this problem anymore...
I set up a DC for my home network - Windows Server 2012 R2 Foundation. Everything is set up fine - DNS, AD - I suceeded joining the domain with other PCs in the network.
Problem:
When I want to join the domain "lionnet.at" it tells me that it cannot find the network address after I typed in the domain admin password.
The dns entries are fine - checked it with nslookup. The DC name is lionhead.
nslookup:
set q=srv
> set q=srv
> _ldap._tcp.dc._msdcs.lionnet.at
Server: lionhead.lionnet.at
Address: 10.0.0.150
_ldap._tcp.dc._msdcs.lionnet.at SRV service location:
priority = 0
weight = 100
port = 389
svr hostname = lionhead.lionnet.at
lionhead.lionnet.at internet address = 10.0.0.150
I tried several solutions: editing the lmhosts/hosts file, deactivating IPv6, setting a static IPv4
Any ideas on this?what the hell...it was an external soundcard preventing the join...i installed it a week ago - unplugged it - "Welcome to the domain lionnet.at!"
Hi CloneBraveB,
Glad to hear that you have solved this issue and thanks for sharing in the forum. Your time and efforts are highly appreciated.
Would you please let me know the complete error message that you get when failed to join the problematic client computer to the domain?
In addition, for a test, please select another computer and install the external soundcard again, then attempt to join the computer to domain. Did you reproduce this issue?
By the way, would you please let me know more details of that soundcard?
If any update, please feel free to let me know.
Best regards,
Justin Gu

Autologon fails after MDT domain join.
I have a Post OS Installation Task setup that I've added the
Recover form Domain step to. I use this TS just to join the PC to our domain. When I run the TS the PC does join our domain correctly but after the reboot it tells me that the username or password is incorrect. I'm presented
with a logon prompt and the username is set to ".\Administrator". I simply type in our default local admin password (not changing the username) and the PC logs in and the TS finishes successfully. What has me confused is I've checked the unattend.xml
file and the username and password is correct, although the username is entered as just "Administrator". I'm pretty sure that the ".\" just refers to the local computer instead of a domain so I don't see what the problem is. Any suggestions

If you use this script at the end of your task sequence, it will complete the domain join. Working and tested successfully.
1. You need to remove Domain Information from Unattend.xml files for MDT so that it cannot write the variables to these sections and join the computer to the domain too early.
2. Create a Task Sequence Group
3. Create a "Run Command Line" Task Sequence Step
3a. Name the step as the following
Join "%OSDDomainName%" Domain as "%OSDJoinAccount%"
3b. Run the following command
cscript.exe "%SCRIPTROOT%\Custom-ZTIDomainJoin.vbs" /JoinDomain /Domain:"%OSDDomainName%"
/SvcAcct:"%OSDJoinAccount%" /SvcAcctPw:"%OSDJoinPassword%"
3c. Place the following conditions on it
If All Conditions Are True
Task Sequence Variable HostName equals %SerialNumber%
Task Sequence Variable IsVM equals False
This script can rename, join workgroup, join domain, unjoin domain, and restart the device all based on arguments
@Microsoft Import this into MDT somehow because the post DomainJoin functionality does not appear to work for my environment, but of course, this could be my environment, but hopefully this helps somebody! -
Allow join domain and user AD authentication through WatchGuard UTM
The question you have, suggests me, that you are not using WSM to manage your firewall?
You should use the traffic monitor in the Firebox system Manager, zhat is part of the WSM install and watch the traffic between your DC and a test computer. Therefor you can set a filter in the traffic monitor, so you will be shown only the traffic of your test computer. If some kind of traffic is blocked from or to your test computer, it will be shown as a red line. If you analyze this line, you will see exactly what port it was, that was denied.
In general tho I think, that all you need is to appoint your clients the use of a DNS server, that is 'AD aware' (has the needed A records you need for AD) and a SMB rule, that will allow SMB traffic to you MS subnet.hi all,
I am configuring new WatchGuard UTM to have 3 different VLANs, for server, staff and students. My target is to allow computers from staff and students to connect DCs on server VLAN and join domain; and staff/student to logon successfully.
I found the link below and successfully configured to allow DC replication.
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/832017
However for computer to join domain and user AD authentication, I could not come up with a list of ports to open on WatchGuard.
Any suggestions on this would be much appreciated.

This topic first appeared in the Spiceworks Community -
I have WDS setup and working fine as long as the person logging into the computer to be imaged is a "Domain Admin", but if not the automatic joining of the domain fails. The user can then join the computer manually, so they do have rights. There
is something that is forcing the user to be a full Domain Admin.
I have tried putting a different security group in the registry setting but it did not make a difference:
HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\WDSServer\Providers\WDSPXE\Providers\BINLSVC\AutoApprove\<arch>\User
The computer is pre-staged and works fine for a domain admin. It all seems fine for other users, but does not join the domain.
Does anybody know how to change this?
RyanHi Mr Yuan Wang,
I am having the same issue auto join domain. I am using answer file which was created through using WSIM in Win 2008 r2.
Every thing went correct except up to the point joining the domain with domain user account(salim) i got the (The username or password is incorrect) error, here is the answer file:

Problems in creating an Integration domain through Platform 9.2 Configuration Wizard.
Hello,
I've have installed WLS platform 9.2 (on Windows XP) and created
an integration domain through Configuration Wizard. The DB for the
domain I specified in the Wizard is MS SQL 2000. The domain was created
in the end. But when I start the (Admin) server I keep getting
errors related to the DB that the WLI would expect to be populated
by default. Many thanks advance for any pointer to resolve these
DB errors.

Database Load Failed!Bishnu Kumar wrote:
Nam,
By default the backend database is Pointbase. But if you want to use another database you need to run all SQL scripts which is needed for the WLI server. Also, while creating the domain you need to alter the database settings(Driver,Connection pool).
You can find the SQL Scripts at location :in weblogic installation directory.
weblogic81\integration\dbscripts\mssql
Hope it works for you if work around this.
Regards
BishnuThanks, Bishu. The problem is actually 2-fold:
a) this was executed by the Wizard; and I didn't have the same problem
when using the Wizard in 8.1 sp6.
b) I don't know the sequence of the SQL scripts I should run.
Again, thanks for any pointer.

Hi,
I have installed Windows Server 2012 r2 Essentials and successfully connected 5 computers Windows 8.1 Pro to my domain (Test). After that, i removed one of the computer (Test5) from the domain using Essentials Dashboard under Devices --> Remove computer.
At the same time, i also disconnected from the client computer (Test5) using the system properties by clicking "Network ID" and following the wizard.
After disconnecting from the domain, i wanted to rejoin the same computer (Test5) to the same domain (Test), but i came across many problems.
I normally join the computers to the domain by going to url xxx/connect to download and install. After that the installer asks me for the username and password. By now, the wizard will display " Cannot connect this computer to the network. The server
is not available. Try connecting this computer again, or for more information, see Troubleshoot connecting computers to the server"
After that, the full name of computer changed to Test5.Test.local but it is still part of the Workgroup.
I tried to reintall Windows 8.1 Pro and changed the name to Test6, tried the connector again but the wizard would display the same problem again.
I tried to reset the computer in the AD under Server Tools, but the computer is not there anymore, tried to change the domain to Workgroup again in Test6, still useless.
And i dont think there is any problem with DNS. I can ping the server with no problem from Test5/Test6, and the network settings seem correct. The DNS Server is setup to one for the server (192.168.11.190), another one to the main router (192.168.11.1).
Can someone offer advice on how to troubleshoot this issue? Greatly appreciate your help. If possible, please explain in layman terms, i'm do not have any experience in server management. this is my first server.
thanks!Yes, i uninstalled the connector from the installed windows update, restarted the client computer (Test6). Tried the manually joining the PC to the domain through both the wizard in the system properties by clicking "Network ID" or "Change".
After putting all the credentials and domain information, both methods result in the same error
"Your computer could not be joined to the domain because the following error has occurred: The specified domain either does not exist or could not be contacted"
Well, i can ping the server without any problems from the problematic computer (Test6). So what is the problem? I think it is the server side that is causing the problems, maybe i need to reset something or delete something. After all, i reinstalled windows
8.1 Pro on Test6, but still cannot re-join the domain!
Please help! -

The ACS must be able to resolve its own hostname, otherwise this will fail.

Hi,
I'm experiencing something weird. my MDT 2010 U1 TS doesn't join HP Compaq 6200 & ProBook 6460b to the domain when I deploy Win 7 x64. It works for x86.
I'm using drivers packages and my WinPE have all drivers (same version x86 and x64). I didn't enter my domain informations in the CS.ini, I only use the "Apply Network Settings step for the domain. It's configured correctly with the SCCM account to use to join
the domain. My computers account are created manually in a OU before do the OSD (not a container). I did F8 during the TS and the computer have an IP and I'm able to ping it all the time during
Here is the log in advertisement status in SCCM:

During the TS a I did F8 and it get a IP address and I'm able to ping the servers but why in the log I don't see an IP ? What do I need to fix this ?
And Why the netsetup.log file see WORKGROUP instead of the domain ?Hi,
Have been struggling with this is issue for months! Have only just this minute got it to work. Thought I would share how I got it to work, just in case other people may find it helpful.
We here use SCCM 2012 R2, and deploy images using SCCM Task Sequences. For months now we have not been able to get our HP Probook 6560b's to finish installing and join to the domain. The task sequence would finish and show a Windows 7 login screen for a
local account.
Having tried a matter of many different ways it has worked using the driver, as mentioned above by Olivierdsm2 and MattGrimley.
First I downloaded the HP Driver pack for the Probook 6560b. I made them all into folders corresponding to Driver Category, Audio, Chipset, Network. Making sure any EXE's are unzipped to show raw INF form if applicable. I then made sure the Network driver
was removed and replaced with the one mentioned by Olivierdsm2 and MattGrimley. The Intel(R) 82579LM Gigabit Network Connection v11.15.16.0.
I created a new Virtual Machine on our Hyper-V server, with a clean Windows 7 image. I installed all software required for the image such as Office 2010, and then completed Windows updates. I then used Sysprep to generalize the image and make it OOBE. I
added the WinPE iso to the CD Tray in Hyper-V and as the VM shut down it booted into WinPE. I then used DiskPart to list the volumes, just so I could see which Drive letter corresponds to each partition, as I will need these details for next command lines.
I then exited Diskpart and entered into Image X to capture the WIM. I captured the WIM to local drive and then copied over to my computer where I used DISM to mount the WIM and then to apply the HP drivers from the folder location mentioned above. Making
sure to use the Recurse switch so it adds drivers from within the folders. It imported successfully and then commited the changes so the WIM was unmounted.
I then copied the WIM to my SCCM server and imported it to the Operating System Images section. making sure I distributed the content. I added the WIM to my Task Sequence and named it so it was specific to the Probook 6560b. I changed the task sequence by
deleting auto install or apply drivers, as these are now in the image itself. So I will only install this task sequence to Probook 6560b's.
Having done all the steps I then made the task sequence available to PXE and Media and ran the installation on the Probook laptop, and it actually FAILED!!
The network driver didn't actually install from DISM. Logged into Laptop and on Device Manager the network driver wasn't installed. I then installed the Network Driver "The Intel(R) 82579LM Gigabit Network Connection v11.15.16.0 " manually from the laptop
and it then installed ok. I followed the same steps above to Sysprep, and capture image with ImageX. Then once I added the image to SCCM and to the task sequence, I ran the installing again to the laptop and IT WORKED!!! The laptop came on, and it was joined
to the domain!
I did this from Hyper-V as I read that this will create an image that doesn't have too many drivers from the reference image device. I don't know if this still would work capturing straight from the laptop itself, but when I did try this before I logged
in locally to check the driver version and it was always an up to date driver, which must be why it never worked before. I think our drivers and driver packages from SCCM must have the newer drivers as to why this didn't work from there. But I'm just happy
this now works and we can save time not having to do things manually.
Hopefully this may help anyone with similar issue who is in difficulty with this. Would never have got it to work if I hadn't come across this forum entry. Even if it is for MDT. Could not find any other site that helped with this issue.
thanks,
Don

Why is Merge into single pdf using InDesign CS3 and not CS4 ?
