Failed to open document

hello I have the following problem
I have discoverer plus 4.1
when i work in windows xp and I open a workbook from the database it works fine,
but in windows server 2003 standard edition it displays the message
Failed to open document

Hi,
What edition of Discoverer are you using as Disco Desktop edition is not supported on Win2003. There is a patch for 9.0.4 and it is fixed in 10.1.2 but I don't think there is a patch for 4.1. Check out metalink Note:298486.1.

  • Access Denied - Failed to Open Document

I've done a few hours of searching for a solution to my problem with no specific answer helping me.
I recently upgraded 63 various reports from Crystal Reports version 8.5 to Crystal Reports 2011 (using a Windows 7 box). I realigned all of the report fields, and ensured all the variables within the report worked as they did before. Basically all 63 worked like old. I deployed these reports to a Windows 2012 R2 server which has Crystal Reports 2011 installed (as well as Crystal Report Runtime for .Net Framework) and 4 out of 63 no longer work. When I try to open them with Crystal Reports 2011 it gives me an error 'Access Denied [line break] Failed to Open Document' In the Event Viewer for Windows it gives me the following details as to what happened.
    Problem signature:
      Problem Event Name:                        APPCRASH
      Application Name:                             crw32.exe
      Application Version:                           14.0.4.738

Here are the things I've done to try and troubleshoot/resolve it:
Re-upgrade the original CR 8.5 Report to 2011 and migrate it to server. (Didn't work)
Migrate the original CR 8.5 Report to Windows 2012 Server and try to upgrade it there (Same error on 8.5 report)
Repair/Reinstall Crystal Reports 2011 on Windows 2012 Server via Windows Control Panel->Uninstall Program tool (Didn't Work)
Repair/Reinstall Crystal Reports Runtime for .Net Framework on Windows 2012 Server via Windows Control Panel->Uninstall Program tool (Didn't Work)
    Add three System Environment Variables to enable Crystal Reports Error Logging through CRLogger.dll (LOGGING_DIR = C:\CRLOGGING; LOGGING_ENABLED_ASSERT = 1; LOGGING_ENABLED_RUNTIME = 30)
Now..the error logging gives me error numbers, and which line of which .cpp file is encountering a problem, but that really doesn't help me because I don't have access to Crystal Reports Source Code. (Pasted below for those who are really curious).
I've seen Ludek or other SAP staff shut down discussions with some line about 'Report Development is not a ...' but I feel that this isn't related to how the report was developed and instead something in the application not jiving well with something else.
Any help or suggestions would be incredibly well received and appreciated.

    Hi Thomas,
Statistically speaking, 4 out of 63 reports isn't bad for a migration.  So something in these 4 reports is different from the others.  I've had this happen if there are images or an object inserted into the report and the update doesn't know how to handle that object.
The best way to try and find the problem is by process of elimination.  Open the reports again in 8.5 and remove a couple of things at a time.  Save it then open in 2011 and see if it fails or not.  Continue doing that until the report actually opens.  The problem could be anything from a formula or printer settings to attachments.
    Good luck,
    Brian

  • Flash5.5 "failed to open document" error message

Yesterday I worked on two files both worked fine.  I saved my work and a backup. This morning I got the dreadful message "failed to open document" followed by the path to the file. The output panel gave me this message:
    The following JavaScript error(s) occurred:
    In file "/Users/lucilarios/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Flash CS5.5/en_US/Configuration/Javascript/ObjectFindAndSelect.jsfl":
    Cannot find file /Users/lucilarios/Desktop/Trabajo_Macondo3/ProjectAlgebra09/TutorialsAlgebra/Integers/Law sOfAddition/NewProject/AssocLawAdd.fla.
The info on the file size shows 0 bites
Both the file and its backup were corrupted.
Are there compatibility issues betweenAdobe CS5.5 Programs and Mac OX Lion?  Lion has crashed my computer several times and other programs like Photoshop and Adobe Bridge have also misbehaved.  Has anybody experienced any issues with Lion and Flash?

    Hi ,
I'm sorry for the inconvience . We are actively working on with customers in resolving this issue .
Please help us answer the following question below so we can reproduce this issue and provide some solution .
About      the location where .fla file is being saved
To a local drive? (eg. hard drive, SSD drive, USB key,       SD card, opened as email attachment, opened from a zip archive, etc)
…or over a network? (eg. shared Windows folder across       Active Directory network, SMB share between OSX machines, symbolic       link/junction points to path) If so, do they have full file permissions       to write to that folder?
    The      .fla file before corruption/crash
    Reproducible from a new document?
File history. eg. originally created in CS4, saved in       CS5 and re-saved in CS5.5
    3. Where was the backup copy saved ?
    4. Did flash crash y'day while you were saving your Fla file ?
Can you please  email me your corrupt fla as well as any previous version of a working  backup copy if any to [email protected] .
    Thanks

  • Crystal Reports ActiveX Designer Failed to open document

Yesterday I created a report in Visual Studio 2008 with about 20 subreports, each subreport containing a single aggregate query (i.e count or sum). I then saved the report file. Hours later when I attempted to reopen the report in Visual Studio I recived the message box "Crystal Reports ActiveX Designer Failed to open document". The report file was completely unusable - it could not be opened for editting.
Today I repeated the process twice (once ith multiple subreports and once with all aggregate queries combined in a single subreport), only to have the new report files become unusable with the same error message. I am completely shocked at this behaviour from Crystal Reports. I have now spent 10+ hours with no usable report. I realy need a fix for this ASAP!!! Any suggestions would be greatlhy appreciated.

    Hi Jeff,
Just wanted to confirm you were on SP1.
I've found that these types of error are usually due to corrupt system files or sometimes even Anti-virus software denying access. If there is no error it's not CR corrupting the file.
Look in your AV logs to see if it's logging anything.
Another possibility is with MS pushing out patches they can also cause problems. I've see them change permissions on our dependencies that can cause problems.
Sorry I can't be specific but without seeing your report or any details you'll have to determine at which step in the report it stops working.
Can you save any reports now?
Steps to debug, create a new report with no subreports and save it. Then re-open, if that works then start adding one subreport and then save/open. It may be something related to either the subreports or the number of subreports.
You could try doing a repair install of VS and SP1.
Was this working at one time or is this something new, do you have other reports that are similar that have problems?
You need to debug the report and find out what is causing it to be corrupted. Try adding the 20th subreport and then delete it also.

  • "failed to open document" help

I have been working on a flash file for school using CS5.5.  Everything was working, and I even downloaded a trial of CS5.5 on my computer to work on the project, but now I am in class and it will not open.  It keeps saying "failed to open document."  I'm not sure what went wrong, and I need this file by next thursday for my class.  I need to know if there is any way to fix this without redoing my entire project from scratch.

thank you! I'll let you know if it worked!
the only problem is that none of my tweens and actions are correct.

  • Flash CS5 - Failed to Open Document

Hello, I am running Flash CS5. I was saving a document and then the program crashed in the middle of saving. It now says "failed to open document". I am running a Macbook, so I can't try that little WinRAR thing I've been told to do here. Help!
I've been saving to the local hard drive. The file was created and edited exclusivey in CS5 on this machine.
    Info:

if you have a working swf, you can try to decompile it using a swf decompiler.

  • Cs6 Flash Failed to open document

Help using mac 10.7.4  created document with cs6 flash.  Wanted to continue working on it but couldn't re-open. Got message  "failed to open document". Can this document be saved?

Pay special attention to this portion (if you can't find a Mac equiv of WinRAR you can rename it to .zip as well if you have a .zip repair utility (StuffIt?)), FLAs are just compressed files:
Recovering the damaged  or corrupt files
Change the extension of .fla to .rar.
Open it using the WinRAR application.
Winrar throws a warning stating that you attempted to open damaged archive, you can safely Ignore the warning.
Go to Tools->Repair Archive. This ensures that the archive and hence, the FLA is repaired.
    Change the extension to .fla.
If you can't find a repair utility you can PM me a link to download the FLA and I can try to recover it for you via WinRAR.

  • Discoverer Error - "Failed to open document"

    Hi,
I'm having this wierd problem. Sometimes, I get a message "
Failed to open Document" error on Discoverer 4 User edition. I
cannot open the worksheet I create. It does not display any
    error code or message.
    Please advice

I assume that you created the workbook in Discoverer Desktop and it does not work in either Plus or viewer. Does recreating the workbook under a new name correct the problem? IF not can you recreate the workbooks through Discoverer Plus and format the layout through the Discoverer Desktop. Does this fix the problem?

  • Failed to Open Document (file not 0 bytes) - Suggested resolution!

(Posting this to assist others with same problem - I have actually resolved for me - please note Adobe developers for suggested improvement for work around… there is still a bug in there somewhere with corrupt files)
Using Flash Pro CS6 (v 12.0.0.481) on Mac OSX 7.5
    Problem:
Tried to open a file that I was working on last night (after MAC crashed and untidy shut down, but had saved file beforehand) this morning and got the error message "Failed to open document". The file has 10 MB of size (not 0 bit like other crashes that were not recoverable!).
    Resolution (work around):
Managed to recover the file using a combo of ideas I found on the web.
First things first... check the file size, if the file size is 0, your pretty much stuffed since the file is empty, sorry. If however the file is populated, then this is what I did:
    1) copied the file and saved it to a new location (so working on a duplicate)
    2) downloaded a rar file tool (Winrar or I used The Unarchiver for Mac)
    3) Change the name of the file extension of that duplicate to .rar (you will get a warning message, accept it)
    4) Double click on the .rar file to open it using the .rar extraction ap you selected - you will be asked to say where you want that file to be extracted to - I just created a new folder on my desktop. In the process of extracting that file (believe it or not it is stored up as many parts), I got error messages that 3 images that were used in the file were corrupted. I selected to continue and ignore that. I made note of the corrupted files set.
    5) Locate the problem files (mine were in a folder called "Library" in the extracted file set) and delete those images *NOTE: you should have these copied elsewhere since they are brought into flash generally. BUT you might also like to skip this step and try the step below first - I didn't - it could be that you don't actually need to delete those images. If the step below doesn't work, then come back here and try again)
    6) In the new extracted file directory, there should be the same file name you want, just not as .fla but as a .xfl version. This means an uncompressed version (I have no idea what that really means) - double click on that same named file.xfl
    7) This .xfl file then opened for me in Flash
    8) Save that file again as .fla, add back any images that were needed and corrupted - mine were not needed so I just left them.
I love working with flash but the instability is really a problem - I pretty much have to save a working file to another location and then try to reopen that before closing the original or shutting down / restarting.  This time I was lucky (only 1 hour of research and trial and error to recover) but previously I have had 0 byte files and had no choice but to start again (since time machine failed to save earlier versions).
    Suggested resolution adobe developers:
It would be very useful if Flash told you which files were corrupted and then gave you an option to open the document with corrupted files removed as a copied version - at least this way we could work with most of the file to rebuild.

This problem has been around for years and the solution you suggest is only the second best in my opinion.
The best would be to have a Failsafe like many other products/companies already have going: Corel, Autodesk, Microsoft etc.:
If their programs stop working they alert you to the fact and give you the opportunity to safe a copy of the file under a different name.
Can`t be Rocket Science. If you can`t make your products work reliable, at least come up with manageable solutions.
There is at least one day a month were I would be really lost without the ability of our company to rewind to the xfl version of yesterday.
I can`t imagine what someone that works as a freelancer and hasn`t got the redundancy of companies has to go through if Flash burns him/her on a regular basis.

  • Error message: "Failed to open document

Error message: "Failed to open document" received often while trying to open a workbook. This occurs randomly: different PC's receive this error in different workbooks while other PC's succeed in opening same workbook. Can someone advice?

I had same problem when we were modifying few workbooks.

  • Adobe x fails to open document

Adobe X with not open document thru iinternet explorer

When that happens, can you check with the Task Manager (Processes tab) if AcroRd32.exe is already running?  If so, can you kill the process from Task Manager and try again?
Another thing to try when this happens is to restart Windows, does it work after that?

  • CS6 Failed to open document.

This has happened more than once. File gets saved and published successfully. The next time I attempt to open the document, I get the error message. Revisions to document are usually only text (not with standard web fonts such as Arial, Verdana, etc., but with my own Adobe fonts).
To resolve, I use a backup of the previous file, but of course I lose the revisions made on the last saved file.

    ANSWERS:
    1) Are you trying to save the file over network ?
    No.
    2) What is the Auto save timing set in the Flash Preferences?
    Auto Recovery: 10 MINUTES.
    3) What does the content mainly contain in terms of assets/actionscripts/swcs etc?
Lots of TEXT, mostly fonts purchased from Adobe; ACTIONSCRIPT for buttons, go to URL, Unload/Load Movie; COMPONENTS from Jumpeye and Flashloaded.
There is a WARNING DIALOG when I'm able to open the FLA file: "DOCUMENT CONTAINS ONE OR MORE FONTS...NOT AVAILABLE ON YOUR SYSTEM". This refers to a font created in a library, I think. The font name now contains an asterisk (Humanist777*. I had resolved all of these font issues before CS6. Somehow, with the upgrade, two fonts became problematic again. I fixed one of them; this one remains. I don't know if this is relevant.
    Thanks very much.

  • Failed to open flash document?????

I have been working on a flash website inside flash CS5 here at school. I have been working for almost 3 hours with no problems and I have made sure to save from time to time. I have saved with no problems. My problem came when I clicked on test movie. As the movie was loading to test the SWF of the website flash crashed and closed out on me. I had just saved before testing so I could have the latest saved. I double click on my flash document to re-open flash and I get a message that says "Failed to open document." Right after the message it lists the folder where my file is located. I still cannot get past this message and my file is a website I have been working on for over 3 hours now. I needed this for school and I guess if I can't fix it I will have to start from scratch although I had so much work completed.
Any ideas? I even tried to open flash first and then go to file open but that did nothing except give me the same error message. Then I looked under recent documents and clicked on the file document and got the same thing. I have no idea what to do. Has anyone had this problem or similar before with some sort of solution to save my 3 hours of work? Thanks

    Hi there!
I had just finished my website  when I saved the file (fla) and shut Flash down. I needed to transfer a different file from my computer onto another computer. I mounted my usb and realized there would not be enough room, so I binned some of the files and tried to empty the trash. My computer said "preparing to empty trash" for nearly 20 mins. I forced shut down my computer and restarted. Emptied the trash fine - transfered the file fine. But when I reopened the website on flash I recieved the "can not find document...." error message. I had closed Flash down before emptying my trash, and made certain there were no Flash files in there. The SWF is fine though. And I had not found any issues with saving it or any warning signs that this was going to happen.
I was saving the FLA over its self not as a save as version
    The file is 52MB
I have a 2 and half year old MacBook Pro
    2.26Ghz Intel Core 2
    Mac OSX version 10.5.8
    Saving to computers hard drive
    Adobe Flash Professional CS5 11.0.2.489
Any help would be so appreciated!
Not sure how to send you the file as its 52MB
    Thanks
