(Failed to read from channel: -1)

Hi,
I get an error Failed to read from channel: -1 when I try and connect to my company server using the Remote Desktop MAC OS X client. It appears that I am actually communicating with my companies server as I did get asked if I recognised
the security certificate but I get this message shortly after. I can't seem to find anything on it on the Web so could do with some assistance.
If anyone wants further information or want's me to create a log (and knows how to direct me) then I will do.
Thanks,
virka

Same problem here. I can't figure out why i get this error

    Hey Ayaz,
    I do had the same error message when I click on "PowerPivot Management Dashboard". After few research I resolved this issue.
    You need to provide the dbReader and dbWriter permission to powerpivot app pool account at "SharePoint_AdminContent_ca021d58-ef1f-4f30-9aeb-6f24db24862b"
    Have a great day :-)

  • RH7 Error: Failed to read from log... Failed to generate WebHelp Pro

    Installed RH9 trial on Windows XP PC. Then, generated an existing project using RH7 to a new C: drive directory location on the PC using the same name. Renamed the project files in that C:drive directory to a test name and opened the project's .xpj file in RH9.  It converted cleanly.
    Now, when I go to generate the RH7 original project from the original server directory, I receive:
    Error: Failed to read from log (file name) .log.... Internal error encountered,  Failed to generate WebHelp Pro.
    Does the log file keep track of the previous generation (time stamp,etc), since this RH7 generation has a skip in it for the one generated to the C:drive?  I've compared the log files from each run (.txt files) and don't see a difference. I even copied the log file from the C:drive run to the Server directory. No luck.  Any ideas?

    Hi John,
    Thanks for the prompt response.  I am trying to evaluate RH9 / RH Server 9.
    When I generate RH7 projects, I’ve always put the server (RH7 Server) directory reference in the ‘Output Folder and Start Page’ field.  This directory reference is where the compiled output ends up right? In my case, it’s in that field as:
    PBSrobohelp\D$\RoboHelp <file:///
    PBSrobohelp\D$\RoboHelp>  Web Files\PBS Unit Processes Manual.  I’m not aware of a C:Drive local copy of the files. Doesn’t it go out to the server output for the .log file in question?
    For the test, I took an existing project in RH7 and replaced this server reference with a C:Drive local hard drive directory reference and ran the output to it.  Then I went to the C:Drive directory and changed the project name, because there doesn’t appear to be a way to do a ‘save as’ on a project – RH7 wants to keep that name badly.  I then, shutdown RH7 and started RH9.  I opened the .xpj file from the new test project copy. It recognized that it was from an older release and it converted the test copy to RH9.  It converted cleanly with about 2 inconsequential document warnings but did not create a TOC.  I looked it over and saved it in RH9 – it was already my test name.
    The original RH7 project opens fine in RH7 and the Test RH9 project opens fine in RH9. So I think I have a good test copy.  It’s just that when I point the RH7 original to the Server Output folder (which has its files) it gets the error on generation.
    We are evaluating RH Server 9 but I haven’t attempted to publish anything to it yet. I’ve stayed  purely on my desktop.
    Hope this clears it up.

    When creating a new site column of the managed meta data type in SharePoint2010, and you select "customize your term set", you are presented with one of the following errors:
    - This operation cannot be completed. The term store may be unavailable.
    - Failed to read from or write to database. Refresh and try again. If the problem persists, please contact the administrator

    Hi,
    I have been facing the same issue, however managed to resolve it.
    This is due to the uncommitted statements. From Powershell try running the following script
    #Connect to Central Admin, Replace the url with the environment specific URL
    $taxonomySite = get-SPSite http://centraladmin:40000
    #Connect to Term Store in the Managed Metadata Service Application, Ensure you put the right Metadate service application name
    $taxonomySession = Get-SPTaxonomySession -site $taxonomySite
    $termStore = $taxonomySession.TermStores["Managed Metadata Service"]
    write-host "Connection made with term store -"$termStore.Name
    #Connect to the Group and Term Set
    $termStore.RollbackAll()
    Hope it would help

  • Why do I get IOException on nio read from channel before all data is read?

    I am working on an NIO based http client library but I've noticed two problems.
    #1: I have been testing against an http server that has authentication turned on. Hence, any request that comes its way will respond with a '401 Authentication Required' response. In the case of a POST, I've noticed that this particular http server does not wait for the body to arrive before responding. As soon as it gets the headers, it dumps the 401 response onto the channel and closes the connection. My library then gets an IOException on the next write to the channel even though I've received write interest event. (I'm using non blocking mode)
    Whether I get the exception depends on timing. Sometimes, my writes work and the exception is averted. Sometimes not. The longer I delay since the time I get the write interest event, the more likely it is the exception will occur.
    Now, in this situation, I really think it's the http server that is violating the http protocol. I give a valid content length that is not zero but it does not wait for me to finish my request. The moment I write the last empty line of the header section, it responds and closes the channel. Even though I don't think this is correct, my library has to deal with it. So in this situation, I've decided my library will abandon the write phase and move on to reading the response.
    NOTE: In the majority of cases, a client would have already authenticated by landing on some page that could produce a POST in the first place. However, for technical reasons I can't mention here, I must support the case that the very first (unathenticated) request to the server is a POST.
    2) After #1 above occurs, reading from the channel will also throw an IOException but only on Windows. Sometimes I get the headers only, sometimes the whole document, sometimes nothing. Again, the longer I delay reading (since the time I get the read interest event) the more likely it is the exception will be thrown. This NEVER happens on Linux. I always get the full response on Linux after the #1 happens even if I put long delays between reads.
    I can understand #1 happening but #2 should not. I can always see the complete response data on the wire using a network protocol analyser. The data is there every time but my library doesn't always get it.
    In situation 2, there is nothing I can do. If I don't receive the data, I have to respond with an error even though the request was successful.
    I have stripped down my library to the bare essentials and can reproduce the problem in a self-contained environment every time.
    Any ideas why the discrepency between Windows/Linux? Does this seem right?

    I read through the section you mentioned. I realize the connection may be dropped at any time. Handling this is no problem. It is reported as an exception to the client. However, this situation is different. I still see no provision that allows a server to respond to a half written request. A request is defined to include an optional message body (Section 5). The client dictates whether it is optional, not the server. Furthermore, section 6 clearly states "After receiving and interpreting a request message, a server responds with an HTTP response message.". To me, this implies the server must wait for the entire request before responding even if its a waste of time. This particular server is attempting to short circuit what I see is the required request/response cycle. In doing so, it is causing me some pain in trying to deliver its response since it seems on windows this interferes with my ability to read it.
    The simple answer to this is to process reads before writes, i.e. OP_READ before OP_WRITE. I tried this as well. Originally, I was not even registering READ interest while I was writing my request. (I saw no reason to. I don't want to give my client a response while they are writing their request.) But even when I do register READ interest while I'm writing (and process read events before write), the read event still produces no data and no eof (-1) indication on the read. The discrepency between linux and windows is bothering me. No matter what I do, I can't deliver the response even though its written to the channel by my peer. I think I will supply some code and see if anyone can get it to work on windows.Edited by: r2rossi on Sep 24, 2008 10:42 AMEdited by: r2rossi on Sep 24, 2008 10:43 AM

  • Recording fails when reading from a buffer

    Hello together,
    I'm new to the java sound api so I decided to get some example code working that I found on the internet. But I Fail.
    Here's the code snippet that does the recording and runs in a thread:
    ByteArrayOutputStream byteOutStream = new ByteArrayOutputStream();
    DataLine.Info info = new DataLine.Info(TargetDataLine.class, m_format);  // m_format is initialised somewhere in the c'tor
    TargetDataLine inputLine = (TargetDataLine)AudioSystem.getLine(info);
    inputLine.open();
    inputLine.start();
    AudioInputStream inStream = new AudioInputStream(inputLine);
    int iCount = 0;
    byte[] buffer = new byte[1024];
    while(m_bRecording && ((iCount = inStream.read(buffer)) != -1))
    {   // m_bRecording will be set false when invoking stop() method
         if(!m_bPause)
             byteOutStream.write(buffer, 0, iCount);
    inStream.close();
    byteOutStream.flush();
    byteOutStream.close();
    byte[] inBuffer = byteOutStream.toByteArray();
    AudioInputStream inRecorded = new AudioInputStream(new ByteArrayInputStream(inBuffer),
                                            m_format,
                                            inBuffer.length / m_format.getFrameSize());
    Clip clip = (Clip)AudioSystem.getLine(info);
    clip.open(inRecorded);I've read the documentations about the classes and their methods so everything seems to make sense about this approach. But when I invoke clip.start() then all I get to hear is only a second or less of the sound I recorded. I found a link (http://www.jsresources.org/faq_audio.html#recordings_cutoff) that may (I'm not sure) be the solution I am looking for. But I still don't know how to apply this suggestion on my example code. Maybe you can help.
    By the way: I've already tried the examples from www.jsresources.org and they work fine. But now I find it important to have my recorded data in a byte array so I will be able to apply effects and play around with the data and see what happens.
    I am looking forward to reading your answers. Tanks!

    captfoss wrote:First, there's absolutely no need for "inStream" because you can read directly from inputLine...so get rid of inStream.You're totally right about this so I got rid of the inStream.
    captfoss wrote:Second, redo the loop so it doesn't exit until you run out of data on the line...rather than when the boolean changes. Close the line in response to the boolean changing (don't flush it or anything, just close it) and continue to read until you get a -1 from reading from it...My code looks like this now.
       inputLine.open();
                inputLine.start();
                byte[] buffer = new byte[1024];
                int iCount = 0;
                do
                    iCount = inputLine.read(buffer, 0, buffer.length);
                    if(!m_bPause)
                        byteOutStream.write(buffer, 0, iCount);
                    if(!m_bRecording && inputLine.isActive())
                        inputLine.stop();
                        //inputLine.drain();
                }while(iCount > 0);
                inputLine.close();It is important to stop() the line, then go on reading until there is no more data to read and then close() the line. It is neccesary to just stop() the line first because it muste be open for reading. So I close() the line when all the job is done.
    I added inputLine.isActive() as an additional condition for the line to stop so it will not be stopped several times although nothing bad happens when closing the line several times.
    After stepping into the if-block the loop continues few more times. When looping for the next to last time iCount has a value smaller than 1024. I suppose this way I can see that the line in fact does run out of data. When looping the last time iCount equals 0 and the loop is left.
    Everything looks just fine but it still doesn't work properly.
    Im starting to wonder if there's something wrong with the version of my JRE installed or the OS or the input device... Is there a way to figure that out?

  • Failed to read wsdl file from url

    Hi all,
    I am struggling with WL 9.2, consuming a WSRP enabled portlet at the following point:
    Having created a proxy portlet, refering to the WSDL of the WSRP producer, I did successfully deploy the portal. When accessing the portal and consuming the portlet the following exception is thrown:
    com.bea.wsrp.faults.TransportException: Failed to read wsdl file from url due to -- java.net.ConnectException: Tried all: '8' addresses, but could not connect over HTTP to server: 'www.w3.org', port: '80';
    The WSDL includes a schema (http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema). The URL is definetely accessible by the server.
    I am open for any kind of support ;) Thanks in advance!
    Kind regards,
    Matthias

    Yes, they are all local schemas. The way ALSB works, even if the import path in the wsdl or parent schema doesn't exist, relative to the current directory, you can specify which schema resolves that reference. My WSDL imports several schemas, all of which import others. When I was done importing all the schemas and resolving references, all the references in WSDLs and XSDs were assigned and valid. However, after all of those imports and reference resolution, it still says the WSDL is invalid, with the following odd error message:

  • I tunes: when trying to burn a playlist I keep getting the message: the attempt to burn a disc failed. The disc could not be read from or written to. I am using version 12

    I tunes: I am using version 12 of I tunes. Ever since downloading it I get the message when trying to burn a playlist it says, The attempt to burn a disc failed. The disc could not be read from or written to.
    I uninstalled V-12 and then reinstalled it. This enabled me to burn a disc again but after a couple of tries I received the same error message again. Has Apple put out a fix to this problem that anyone is aware of?
    Thanks.

    Hi rossfrombluffton,
    Welcome to the Support Communities!  The resource below provides some general things to consider when burning a disc with iTunes.  I would also try burning a music CD and a data disc from a different application in the Windows OS and trying a different brand CD just to confirm the issue is not with the optical drive.
    Can't burn a CD in iTunes for Windows - Apple Support
    http://support.apple.com/en-ae/HT203173
    Find out what to do if you can't burn an audio CD using iTunes for Windows. Sometimes an audio disc may not burn as expected. Here are some things to check.
    Update iTunes
    Download and install the latest version of iTunes for Windows.Check for unauthorized songs
    iTunes will stop burning a disc if you purchased one or more of the songs in a playlist from the iTunes Store and the songs aren't authorized to play on your computer. This message should appear: "Some of the files can not be burned to an audio CD. Do you still want to burn the remainder of this playlist? For more information on why some files can not be burned, click below."
    To find out which songs aren't authorized, play each song in the playlist. Songs that play are authorized. Songs that don't play aren't authorized. You'll be asked to authorize any unauthorized songs.Make sure your playlist will fit on a single CD
    If there are too many songs in a playlist to fit on a single CD, iTunes should ask if you want to burn multiple discs or cancel the burn. This message should appear: "The songs in this playlist will not fit on one Audio CD. Do you want to create multiple Audio CDs with this playlist split across them? This will require more than one blank CD to complete."
    If you click the Audio CDs button, the burn will continue and you'll be asked to insert blank CDs until the playlist is completely burned. If you click cancel, the burn will be canceled.
    To make the playlist shorter so that it will fit on a single CD, select a song to remove from the playlist and choose Edit > Clear. Repeat this step until the duration of the playlist is between 60 and 80 minutes. The duration appears at the top of the playlist window. Most CD-R discs can hold 60 to 80 minutes of music.
    Check how many times you've burned the playlist
    An unchanged playlist that contains songs purchased from the iTunes Store can be burned no more than seven times.Additional steps and submitting feedback

  • Moving library to external hard drive and get the error "Copying files failed. The disk could not be read from or written to"

    Hello,
    I'm moving my library to an external hard drive.
    I've made sure to use the 'Keep iTunes Media Folder Organized' option when pointing to the new library location.
    I select 'File'->'Library'->'Organize Library', I select to 'Consolidate Files', click 'OK' and get ther error message "Copying files failed. The disk could not be read from or written to".
    I've read elsewhere that there may be a corrupted file that I need to sequester somehow and perhaps add it back however I'm not certain how I can locate that file because the status window doesn't indicate which file it's attempting to transfer when the error appears.
    Any tips?
    Thank you,
    Greg H
    iTunes 10.6.3

    OK I figured it out!
    It was a dodgy file....I sorted the file folders by date, and as it turned out within the "compilations" folder there was a CD where only about half the tracks seemed to have been copied over. Could not have identified this simply from the time indicated on the finder folder sort, because there were several CDs copied over in the that same minute.
    I went back to the original itunes folder, deleted all the files from that CD in itunes, then also deleted all those files from the original disk and the target disk.
    Tried the "consolidate library" again, and it completed nicely. 200megs of music and videos.
    Very happy to solve this problem after 3 weeks.

  • Error "COPYING MUSIC FAILED. The disk could not be read from or written to"

    After following the procedurest to move the iTunes music, the computer started whirring away, happily copying and consolidating all the song files to the new target folder.
    After copying 68gigs of 130gigs perfectly, it stopped dead and the following iTunes error message appeared:
    "COPYING MUSIC FAILED. THE DISK COULD NOT BE READ FROM OR WRITTEN TO"
    I am copying to an external LaCie 500g hard disk, and the current music file is split between folders on the laptop and folders and a 2nd external LaCie Hard disk. It did not appear to have any problems copying and consolidating files from both locations, until the error message showed up.
    How can I solve this?
    I really need to consolidate this music file.

    i keep gettign this message when trying to drag music in itunes.
    attempting to copy to the disk "iPhone" failed because the disk could not be read from or written to.

    Can apply to iPhone as well >    'Disk cannot be read from or written to' when syncing iPod or 'Firmware update failure' error when updating or restoring iPod
    If you are using a Windows based computer >  iTunes for Windows: Gathering and using iTunes Diagnostics
    Ignore:  To repair an iPod disk—Restore the iPod or iPod shuffle using the latest version of iTunes.
