Failed to save document.

I've been working on this report for several hours. Changing formulas, updating the stored procedure, verifying the database... now all the sudden when I try to Save or Save As, I'm getting an error message: "Failed to save document." and that's all it says.
I've closed all preview windows, tried it with and without "Save data with report.", and nothing seems to remedy the problem.
I'll be losing 20 minutes worth of changes if I can't figure this out. Not ideal, but it could be worse. This post is more or less to figure out why this would happen so I can avoid it in the future.
Thanks,
Nicholas

  • " FAILED TO SAVE DOCUMENT"   " NOT SUPPORTED"

I have a Crystal Report that I have worked on for serveral hours and that I have saved throughout the day; however, when I try to save it now, I get the following error:
" FAILED TO SAVE DOCUMENT"   I hit OK and then the following appears.
      " NOT SUPPORTED"
I am not able to save it anywhere or rename it.
Has this happened to anyone else?

    Hello,
Typically when you get permission issue it's due to file system permissions, registry permissions or even WEB access. Open up Crystal Designer and check off the option for updates. Firewalls and anti-virus software can cause access issues also. This is not a CR issue but some permission problem and there can be many sources causing Cr to fail like this. Depending on the OS it can also be read/write permissions on the folder you are trying to save to.
Make sure you are a local PC administrator and have full rights to install software. If you have an IT department check with them to verify they have not pushed out Profile updates to modify your permissions, you may be an Administrator but IT may have altered the default permissions.
There are also install issues affected by DEP, Firewall and Anti-virus software, thus the warning about disabling all applications when installing. Quite often also doing a Repair install from Add/Remove programs will resolve issues, in your case Disconnect from the network by disabling your network card and then stop the firewall and and Anti-V then do a repair install.
Now test your report by saving it locally, do not save it to a network share and see if that works. If it does then start up your firewall and anti-V and then re-connect to your network and test again. If it now fails look at configuring those security suits to allow CR full access to the network, system resources and WEB.
Removed registry to clean up formatting:
Other tools are ProcessMonitor, add crw32.exe to the filter and then when you try to save the report watch the logs to see what Access Denied notes are logged. This should tell what you need to add to your system to get full access.
There are 1000's of users who do not have this problem and only a few who do so it's not likely a CR issue.
    Thank you again

I am using Crystal 10 and SQL Server. I have ran into instances when I try to save a report with data or save as I get Failed to Save Document. and Not Supported. error messages. Does anyone have a clue on why this would be happening and is there a work around.

Has anyone found the answer to this problem?  I am experiencing the exact same issue today.  This is quite frustrating!  If anyone has a clue on how to fix this or how to prevent it from happening again please post a reply.
I'd hate to lose all of my work over the past hour (I couldn't imagine of loosing a days worth of work like the original poster stated) but if there is no fix, I understand.  However, is there something that I could have done to cause this?  If so, I want to avoid doing it in the future.
    Thanks guys.

  • Failed to Save Document--Crystal Reports

    Hello,
Is there a fix to a "Failed to Save" error that is currently happening to me?
After reviewing other threads, I believe the error happened when I went from a wired connection to a wireless connection when I removed my computer from my docking station.
Is there any fixes to this issue?
    Crystal Reports--Version 14.1.1.1036
    Thank you,
    Kyle

I'd like you ot update to the latest Service Pack for CR 2013:
Downloads for SAP Crystal Reports and others
If that does not help, you may have to see what Process Monitor reports when you try to save the rpt.

    Hi Henry,
I am using PA 1.0.11 and received this error; any update on this fix for SAP PA. Does this happen for a particular data source.
I am currently using Excel as source and whenever I try to use this data; I get this even if I move the data to a new file or rename a file. I tried to check the same issue with a different file and it works fine. This file worked fine a day back.
Please let me know if this is unusual for this version.

    Post Author: amcc
    CA Forum: Administration
I have been unable to work out what access right is needed for Webi users to be able to save a Deski document to their Favourites folder.  We have some migrated documents containing features that will not convert to Webi so have had to allow access to the Deski documents in the repository.  Anyone in the Administrators group can successfully save the Deski documents but other users cannot and get the message:
    SaveAs Document Failed (80043761)
The same group of users can view and refresh the document without any problem.  They can also use 'Save to my computer as' without any problem.
For an example group of users they have:
    1. View on Demand set on the universe2. View on Demand set on the universe connection3. View on Demand set on the folder containing the document4. Log on to Desktop Intelligence and view this object in the CMC set for the Desktop Intelligence application5. Save Desktop Intelligence Documents set for the Desktop Intelligence application6. Full Control of their Favourites folder.
I've even tried changing the View on Demand settings to Full Control but it made no difference.
    What have I missed?

    Hi all,
Even I have faced this problem, but the scenario is little different here.
I have a deski publication report , which run sucessfully evry day but once in a while fails giving this error.
    SaveDocumentAs failed (80042908)
When we run this report again it run fine.
I am really wondered why this is happpening.
Any suggestions on this. Thanks in advance.

  • When trying to generate a docx RH8 fails to save the document and crashes

    Hi all,
I am trying to generate a docx with RH8 under Win XP Pro Japanese localization, and shortly after the conversion starts, I begin getting warnings that RH "Failed to save the Word Document after appending a malformed topics:" and then gives the name of the topic. This is happening for all topics, though it generated fine previous to the last changes I did in the project.
The changes I did in  the project were just additions of topics the usual way. No importing of any kind, just copy from Word and paste in RH8.
I suspect a RH corruption, however if I could avoid reinstalling RH, it would be awesome.
I just repaired Office 2007, as I was thinking that Word might be the problem, however the same thing happens, so my best guess would be reinstalling RH8.
Any ideas as what could be the problem?
    Thank you,
    Bogdan

I reinstalled RH8 and managed to generate the printed documentation normally.
So the problem was RH8 which got corrupted without any apparent reason.

  • Access Denied - Failed to Open Document

I've done a few hours of searching for a solution to my problem with no specific answer helping me.
I recently upgraded 63 various reports from Crystal Reports version 8.5 to Crystal Reports 2011 (using a Windows 7 box). I realigned all of the report fields, and ensured all the variables within the report worked as they did before. Basically all 63 worked like old. I deployed these reports to a Windows 2012 R2 server which has Crystal Reports 2011 installed (as well as Crystal Report Runtime for .Net Framework) and 4 out of 63 no longer work. When I try to open them with Crystal Reports 2011 it gives me an error 'Access Denied [line break] Failed to Open Document' In the Event Viewer for Windows it gives me the following details as to what happened.
    Problem signature:
      Problem Event Name:                        APPCRASH
      Application Name:                             crw32.exe

Here are the things I've done to try and troubleshoot/resolve it:
Re-upgrade the original CR 8.5 Report to 2011 and migrate it to server. (Didn't work)
Migrate the original CR 8.5 Report to Windows 2012 Server and try to upgrade it there (Same error on 8.5 report)
Repair/Reinstall Crystal Reports 2011 on Windows 2012 Server via Windows Control Panel->Uninstall Program tool (Didn't Work)
Repair/Reinstall Crystal Reports Runtime for .Net Framework on Windows 2012 Server via Windows Control Panel->Uninstall Program tool (Didn't Work)
    Add three System Environment Variables to enable Crystal Reports Error Logging through CRLogger.dll (LOGGING_DIR = C:\CRLOGGING; LOGGING_ENABLED_ASSERT = 1; LOGGING_ENABLED_RUNTIME = 30)
Now..the error logging gives me error numbers, and which line of which .cpp file is encountering a problem, but that really doesn't help me because I don't have access to Crystal Reports Source Code. (Pasted below for those who are really curious).
I've seen Ludek or other SAP staff shut down discussions with some line about 'Report Development is not a ...' but I feel that this isn't related to how the report was developed and instead something in the application not jiving well with something else.
Any help or suggestions would be incredibly well received and appreciated.

    Hi Thomas,
Statistically speaking, 4 out of 63 reports isn't bad for a migration.  So something in these 4 reports is different from the others.  I've had this happen if there are images or an object inserted into the report and the update doesn't know how to handle that object.
The best way to try and find the problem is by process of elimination.  Open the reports again in 8.5 and remove a couple of things at a time.  Save it then open in 2011 and see if it fails or not.  Continue doing that until the report actually opens.  The problem could be anything from a formula or printer settings to attachments.
    Good luck,
    Brian

  • Crystal Reports ActiveX Designer Failed to open document

Yesterday I created a report in Visual Studio 2008 with about 20 subreports, each subreport containing a single aggregate query (i.e count or sum). I then saved the report file. Hours later when I attempted to reopen the report in Visual Studio I recived the message box "Crystal Reports ActiveX Designer Failed to open document". The report file was completely unusable - it could not be opened for editting.
Today I repeated the process twice (once ith multiple subreports and once with all aggregate queries combined in a single subreport), only to have the new report files become unusable with the same error message. I am completely shocked at this behaviour from Crystal Reports. I have now spent 10+ hours with no usable report. I realy need a fix for this ASAP!!! Any suggestions would be greatlhy appreciated.

    Hi Jeff,
Just wanted to confirm you were on SP1.
I've found that these types of error are usually due to corrupt system files or sometimes even Anti-virus software denying access. If there is no error it's not CR corrupting the file.
Look in your AV logs to see if it's logging anything.
Another possibility is with MS pushing out patches they can also cause problems. I've see them change permissions on our dependencies that can cause problems.
Sorry I can't be specific but without seeing your report or any details you'll have to determine at which step in the report it stops working.
Can you save any reports now?
Steps to debug, create a new report with no subreports and save it. Then re-open, if that works then start adding one subreport and then save/open. It may be something related to either the subreports or the number of subreports.
You could try doing a repair install of VS and SP1.
Was this working at one time or is this something new, do you have other reports that are similar that have problems?
You need to debug the report and find out what is causing it to be corrupted. Try adding the 20th subreport and then delete it also.

  • Keynote - cannot save document

Hi, anybody knows how to solve this problem? I am creating a keynote document with quite a lot of pictures. After the 3-4 slide I could save the document with no problems. I am in the 11th slide now and suddenly, when I tried to save the document it told me: "Couldn't auto-save document"
I've tried to reduce file to no avail.
If anybody has a good suggestion of what the problem is I'd really appreiciate it. I've been working on it for hours and I am afraid if I close Keynote I would loose the document -

I have 21 slides. Latest everything (OS, Keynote etc...). No problems until I added some more pictures and now I get the same message.
Every time I try to save my file, I get "Couldn't auto-save document".
Honestly, this is so pitiful, by a mega rich company that tells us continually that they produce amazing stuff.  Yes, Keynote truly is amazing. Powerpoint does not have these amazing problems. What is auto-save doing anyhow?  There are no setting for auto-save, nothing in the help files. I am not asking it to auto-save. I just click "save" but uncle Apple knows best, and fails. Sounds like my wife's iPad iOS 8.0.2 in which Pages is really unstable.  I guess Apple cannot afford proper testers.....?
I can duplicate the document and it seems to save that new file fine.

  • Failed to Open Document (file not 0 bytes) - Suggested resolution!

(Posting this to assist others with same problem - I have actually resolved for me - please note Adobe developers for suggested improvement for work around… there is still a bug in there somewhere with corrupt files)
Using Flash Pro CS6 (v 12.0.0.481) on Mac OSX 7.5
    Problem:
Tried to open a file that I was working on last night (after MAC crashed and untidy shut down, but had saved file beforehand) this morning and got the error message "Failed to open document". The file has 10 MB of size (not 0 bit like other crashes that were not recoverable!).
    Resolution (work around):
Managed to recover the file using a combo of ideas I found on the web.
First things first... check the file size, if the file size is 0, your pretty much stuffed since the file is empty, sorry. If however the file is populated, then this is what I did:
    1) copied the file and saved it to a new location (so working on a duplicate)
    2) downloaded a rar file tool (Winrar or I used The Unarchiver for Mac)
    3) Change the name of the file extension of that duplicate to .rar (you will get a warning message, accept it)
    4) Double click on the .rar file to open it using the .rar extraction ap you selected - you will be asked to say where you want that file to be extracted to - I just created a new folder on my desktop. In the process of extracting that file (believe it or not it is stored up as many parts), I got error messages that 3 images that were used in the file were corrupted. I selected to continue and ignore that. I made note of the corrupted files set.
    5) Locate the problem files (mine were in a folder called "Library" in the extracted file set) and delete those images *NOTE: you should have these copied elsewhere since they are brought into flash generally. BUT you might also like to skip this step and try the step below first - I didn't - it could be that you don't actually need to delete those images. If the step below doesn't work, then come back here and try again)
    6) In the new extracted file directory, there should be the same file name you want, just not as .fla but as a .xfl version. This means an uncompressed version (I have no idea what that really means) - double click on that same named file.xfl
    7) This .xfl file then opened for me in Flash
    8) Save that file again as .fla, add back any images that were needed and corrupted - mine were not needed so I just left them.
I love working with flash but the instability is really a problem - I pretty much have to save a working file to another location and then try to reopen that before closing the original or shutting down / restarting.  This time I was lucky (only 1 hour of research and trial and error to recover) but previously I have had 0 byte files and had no choice but to start again (since time machine failed to save earlier versions).
    Suggested resolution adobe developers:
It would be very useful if Flash told you which files were corrupted and then gave you an option to open the document with corrupted files removed as a copied version - at least this way we could work with most of the file to rebuild.

This problem has been around for years and the solution you suggest is only the second best in my opinion.
The best would be to have a Failsafe like many other products/companies already have going: Corel, Autodesk, Microsoft etc.:
If their programs stop working they alert you to the fact and give you the opportunity to safe a copy of the file under a different name.
Can`t be Rocket Science. If you can`t make your products work reliable, at least come up with manageable solutions.
There is at least one day a month were I would be really lost without the ability of our company to rewind to the xfl version of yesterday.
I can`t imagine what someone that works as a freelancer and hasn`t got the redundancy of companies has to go through if Flash burns him/her on a regular basis.

  • Annotations lost after failed cloud save

I had a PDF file opened for several days in Reader in my Nexus 7 tablet. I had made several annotations.
At some point, after I had added a couple of annotations, I uploaded the file to Acrobat.com, and continued working with the version on Acrobat.com.
Unfortunately, today I encountered a problem when I was having trouble trying to select a highlight to change its colour. I was tapping a lot and long-pressing. For some reason, at that point Reader suddenly decided to try to save the file into the cloud - and showed a message saying it had failed to save it. It's not surprising that it failed, because I wasn't connected to any network at the time! Simultaneously, it returned me to the Recent documents list, and removed the file from the Recent documents list.
I found a copy of the file saved on my tablet, but this did not contain the new annotations, only the initial ones. Maybe that copy was just the old version before I uploaded it to Acrobat.com, I'm not sure.
Anyway, is there any way I can get my other annotations back?
They are not in the Acrobat.com version either (I checked on my PC) because every time it has tried to save to the cloud, there was no network. So this also only contains the initial annotations.
