This looks like a different problem and would normally require a new thread, but still...can you give us more details, maybe we can help...?
What's the error you get? Any relevant entries in log files? Did you perform any change on this account lately? if so, how did you do that?

    >I've never seen a sqlnet.log file that wasn't generated by a client process, and that's what the one you presented looks like. I see that it references an IP address and port 1287, while your listener seems to be configured for a server name (what IP does that resolve to?) and port 1521.
But we don't know what your problem is, you just said you have "the same" problem as someone else, but don't present any diagnostics. If the problem is that you can't start your listener, the first thing you need to do is show us the result of 'lsnrctl start', so we can see the exact error messages.
And keep in mind that the listener is a server side process. It runs only on the box that is actually hosting the database.

sridharWhy are you reviving a thread that has been dormant for 18 months and had nothing that looked at all like your problem?
    Anyway ...
First, Is your client (from which you are running sqlplus) on the same machine as the database? If not, it will never connect as 'localhost' is a non-routable address.
Second, which version of windows is your database on?
Third, we see what your listener and tnsnames files look like, but that's not the whole story. Show us the results of :
c:> lsnrctl status(Use copy and paste to show us the full command and response from a command prompt)
Fourth, read my standard explanation and see if it leads you to any clues.
    =================================
    A couple of important points.
First, the listener is a server side only process. It's entire purpose in life is to receive requests for connections to databases and set up those connections. Once the connection is established, the listener is out of the picture. It creates the connection. It doesn't sustain the connection. One listener, with the default name of LISTENER, running from one oracle home, listening on a single port, will serve multiple database instances of multiple versions running from multiple homes. It is an unnecessary complexity to try to have multiple listeners or to name the listener as if it belongs to a particular database. That would be like the telephone company building a separate switchboard for each customer.
Second, the tnsnames.ora file is a client side issue. It's purpose is for address resolution - the tns equivalent of the 'hosts' file further down the network stack. The only reason it exists on a host machine is because that machine can also run client processes.
Assume you have the following in your tnsnames.ora:
    larry =
      (DESCRIPTION =
        (ADDRESS_LIST =
          (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = myhost)(PORT = 1521))
        (CONNECT_DATA =
          (SERVICE_NAME = curley)
)Now, when you issue a connect, say like this:
$> sqlplus scott/tiger@larrytns will look in your tnsnames.ora for an entry called 'larry'. Next, tns sends a request to (PORT = 1521) on (HOST = myhost) using (PROTOCOL = TCP), asking for a connection to (SERVICE_NAME = curley).
Where is (HOST = myhost) on the network? When the request gets passed from tns to the next layer in the network stack, the name 'myhost' will get resolved to an IP address, either via a local 'hosts' file, via DNS, or possibly other less used mechanisms. You can also hard-code the ip address (HOST = 123.456.789.101) in the tnsnames.ora.
Next, the request arrives at port 1521 on myhost. Hopefully, there is a listener on myhost configured to listen on port 1521, and that listener knows about SERVICE_NAME = curley. If so, you'll be connected.
    What can go wrong?
First, there may not be an entry for 'larry' in your tnsnames. In that case you get "ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve the connect identifier specified" No need to go looking for a problem on the host, with the listener, etc. If you can't place a telephone call because you don't know the number (can't find your telephone directory (tnsnames.ora) or can't find the party you are looking for listed in it (no entry for larry)) you don't look for problems at the telephone switchboard.
Maybe the entry for larry was found, but myhost couldn't be resolved to an IP address (say there was no entry for myhost in the local hosts file). This will result in "ORA-12545: Connect failed because target host or object does not exist"
Maybe there was an entry for myserver in the local hosts file, but it specified a bad IP address. This will result in "ORA-12545: Connect failed because target host or object does not exist"
Maybe the IP was good, but there is no listener running: "ORA-12541: TNS:no listener"
Maybe the IP was good, there is a listener at myhost, but it is listening on a different port. "ORA-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error"
Maybe the IP was good, there is a listener at myhost, it is listening on the specified port, but doesn't know about SERVICE_NAME = curley. "ORA-12514: TNS:listener does not currently know of service requested in connect descriptor"

Best Regards. Why do you have two LISTENER sections? That is the section that actually defines the listener. And what is the FINTRAKDUMP section supposed to be?
Delete this mess and start over, using netca to create it. You only need one listener, default name of LISTENER, and only one SID_LIST section, named SID_LIST_LISTENER. Anything more is error-prone and unnecessary complications.

  • TNS Listener goes off frequently

I have installed oracle9i on my laptop having operating system Windows XP Home. I have successfully created database, TNS Listener both. I can start TNS Listener as the windows service. But when i try to connect to database using SQL Plus or any other client, TNS Listner goes off. If I start it again, it will be on until next time i will try to connect to database.
This is a strange behaviour of listner i am seeing first time.
If any of you Database GURUs have any idea, why its happening ?
    Appreciate your help.
    Regards,
    Nilesh

    Hi 120116
Oracle9i is not certified for XP Home Edition. I have seen a lot of people with that same problem. Regarding that you can not do anything apart from change your OS to XP Professional.

  • Management agent upgraded to 10.2.0.4 - getting error Failed to start LSNR

    Hi all,
I have just upgraded the management agent upgradation to 10.2.0.4. I am getting this error error 'Failed to start HTTP listener.'
I had killed the agent process at the o/s level and restarted it but again after a while it shuts down automatically.
Also my emctl status agent still shows the agent version as 10.2.0.2 ??? Please let me know what to do in this scenario.
Will appreciate your early response. ... Thanks & Regards, Deepak

can you report the status of this command and screen output

    Please help

    I need help please:
I have installed Oracle 10g Express Edition without struggles ( Little curious about the fact
that the directory /usr/lib/oracle/xe/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/server/config/log/ is empty).
% /etc/init.d/oracle-xe configure --> worked good without default settings.
% /etc/init.d/oracle-xe start --> is silent : No verbose or messages in term.
    I can't connect to server http://localhost:8080/htmldb or http://localhost:8080/apex.
I uninstalled and re-installed Oracle 10g... Now the command:
% /etc/init.d/oracle-xe configure --> Oracle is already configured.
But the connection to the server always fails.
My environment has all the following:
    % uname -r
    2.6.30.5-43.fc11.i686.PAE
    % echo $ORACLE_HOME
    /usr/lib/oracle/xe/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/server
    % echo $ORACLE_SID
    XE
    % echo $PATH
    /usr/lib/oracle/xe/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/server/bin:/usr/lib/qt-3.3/bin:/usr/kerberos/sbin.....
BUT I also had the responses:
    % /etc/init.d/oracle-xe restart
Shutting down Oracle Database 10g Express Edition Instance.
