What is the installed operating system?  Is it Windows 7 or Windows 8?
If it is Windows 8 then you need to install the wireless button driver to return that function to your notebook.
You probably need to reinstall the Realtek Card reader driver and the Intel USB 3.0 host controller driver software driver to clear the missing device driver issues.

  • Envy 15t-3200 (Ivy Bridge) WLAN PCI Card Replacement

Hello everyone! I just had a quick question - it's rather specific, so I'm just posting to see if anyone happens to have experience with this. Basically, I'm looking to replace the built-in WLAN adapter in my Envy 15t-3200 (CTO). Right now, it has the stock Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6235 WLAN adapter. This adapter isn't bad by any means, but I'm in the process of upgrading a few parts in my laptop (SSD, RAM) to give it a little refresh, and I'd like to see if I can replace the WLAN adapter as well. The one that I'd like to replace it with is the Intel 7260-Wireless AC adapter (with bluetooth). Hardware-wise, I think everything will work out great. However, the one hesitation I have is the rumored WLAN "whitelist" that may be hardcoded into some HP laptops. So, if anyone has successfully replaced their WLAN adapter in an Ivy Bridge gen. Envy 15t (especially the 3200 CTO), I'd really like to hear about it!
TL;DR: I want to replace the WLAN adapter in my Envy 15t-3200 (CTO, Ivy Bridge gen.) but I'm worried about whether or not the HP BIOS will allow me to boot up once I do.
Like I said, I'm not expecting this to be an easy-to-answer, straightfoward question. It's probably something that can only be answered by someone else who has tried the same thing. Anyways, I'll probably end up ordering the new WLAN card to try it out since I can send it back if it doesn't work. I'll post my results here if I end up going for it!
P.S. I did search the forums and found one other topic about this same issue: http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Hardware-Upgrades-Replacements/HE-Envy-15-2013-Network-Card-upgrade/m-p...
It seems like it ended up working for those users, but I think they're talking about a newer (Haswell gen.) Envy laptop. Thanks in advance to anyone who replies/reads this!
Edit: So I just noticed that the service/maintenance manual lists the WLAN module as an "end-user serviceable part," so it seems like this may work after all. I went ahead and ordered the part (from here), and I still plan on updating this post once I perform the switch.

    Hi,
I'm positive it will work. Intel Envy laptops probably don't have the whitelist because I have tried three different Intel wifi cards and all worked. One of them actually had a very old part number (Intel Ultimate 6300). Don't worry it will be ok.

  • Envy 15t 3200 blue screen after graphics install

    Hi everyone,
I'm an IT professional working on a client's HP Envy 15t-3200 notebook PC (Win 7 x64, Intel i7, AMD 7700 series)
He said (he thinks) after installing a recent windows update, it started blue screening on him with a graphics error.
He restored his PC to factory install, and it was working fine until he installed windows updates and the graphics drivers again, receiving the same blue screen graphics error.
I picked up his laptop. I installed a slipstream of windows 7 that I created. Everything worked fine - as soon as I installed his graphics drivers.
First, I had installed the AMD drivers (from AMD, not HP). I thought everything was working fine, until I checked the device manager and saw that the AMD graphics were being disabled, and the laptop was reverting to the generic graphics driver. I also tried the older driver offered on HPs support page.
I uninstalled the AMD graphics, and installed the Intel graphics. As soon as they were installed, upon restarting I received the same original blue screen error and had to result in booting to safe mode and performing system restore.
When I install the AMD graphics without installing Intel graphics, it reverts itself to Generic graphics. The AMD graphics adapter shows a Code 43 in the device manager, stating that the device has stopped working because it has reported problems.
I played around with different versions of AMD graphics which did not resolve the issue, and I installed different versions of the Intel graphics, which still caused a blue screen.
The PC is working ONLY with the generic graphics drivers, which doesn't work for what my client wants to be able to do (gaming).
    I found this - http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c04121863&tmp_task=solveCategory&cc=us&dlc=en&la...
on the troubleshooting page for this notebook, and tried using this solution which also did not resolve the issue.
I've checked temperatures of the laptop and nothing is anywhere near overheating.
I don't know what else to try. My client said he will live with it and just not use it for gaming anymore, but that is not good enough for me - I've offered to continue finding a resolution for him free of charge.
Any help would be very appreciated, this is extremely annoying

Reformatting the hard disk and installing the OS again may or may not help.
I would consider rolling back to a system restore checkpoint where the issue all began, testing it and if it works turn off Windows updates on the notebook.
Unfortunately, this notebook model requires replacing the system board. I wish I had better news for you on this, but I do not.
You can see that in the Maintenence & Service guide.
The larger notebooks have the graphics adapter module as a seperately replaceable unit.

  • Promise duplication process fails after upgrading BIOS (KT6 Delta bios 5.7)

After upgrading the bios for my KT6 Delta from 5.0 to 5.7 the controller fails to duplicate the discs in my mirror set.
After copying 1% if will fail and report that there is something wrong with the target disc. I have used the diagnostic tool provided by Maxtor, but there does not seem to be anything wrong.
    Questions:
    1) is the duplication process autonomous, i.e. wil incorrect bios settings affect the duplication process
    2) Since BIOS 5.0 an update of the Promise BIOS is included. Because of CRC I can assume that any BIOS downloaded from MSI will be correctly flashed. Even after CMOS clear the problem still occurs. Does anyone experience the same problem?
    3) How will I create a mirror set and duplicate a working disc to the other bypassing the mirror option in de Promise BIOS?
Thanks in advance for any help..

I have been using Promise RAID controllers since the FastTrak66. I used to select mainboards based on this controller because I am used to it.
So the solution to the problem will not be based on mistakes in using it ;-)
Either the drive is defective (which special software did not proofed to be), or the BIOS is somehow incorrect, or there might be some settings outside the controller affecting it.

  • Hp envy 15t j000 quad edition ssd upgrade: what to know

Hello everyone so im going to buy an hp envy 15t j000 quad edition for school and was looking online to see what i can upgrade on it to make it faster. Im not very knowledgable with computers so i need lots of help! While doing so i found out the hp comes with a hard disk drive (hdd) and that these are prone to damage over time and dropping, moving, ect. I learned that solid state drives (ssd) are prefered and can make the computer significantly faster and wont be as vunerable as the disk drive. Im upgrading the envy with the NVIDIA GeForce GT 740M Graphics with 2048MB of dedicated video memory, 15.6-inch diagonal Full HD BrightView LED-backlit Display (1920x1080), and the 12GB DDR3 System Memory (2 Dimm) option. Will any of this affect my swapping of the hdd? I also was wondering why the 8gb ddr3 system memory (2dimm) didn't affect the price for switching to the 12gb option. There isnt a difference right? also would the 24gb accelrated cache be of any use? For my last question i think i heard that i would need to clone or buy another copy of windows 8 to put on the new ssd. will there be any problems doing this? Am i in for a headache?

    Pepe999
I went on to Tom's Hardware to looking into the 16GB memory.. there is a recent report where adding 16 gb-ddr3 ram.. will increase the life of a SSD drive by 63% compared to 4gb.. here is the link.. thought it was interesting and supported my thinking in reducing the number of HD writes.

thought I'd share it with you.. what do you think..

  • New Model: HP Envy 15t Upgrade HD to SSD or mSATA SSD?

    Hello Everyone,
I have been reading several threads on upgrading the HDD to SSD and it seems like everyone has been successful in doing so.  My question is, is there a benefit to upgrade the HDD to a SSD or to just add in mSATA SSD?  I currently have a networked drive that holds most of my data such as music, pictures, and videos so I do not believe I need more capacity on my hard drive.  With that being said, I planned on buying a 256/240GB SSD drive, it is just a matter of which one do I purchase? a regular SSD or mSATA SSD?  Thoughts?  Comments?  Concerns?
    Mike Lee
on a side note:  I have the new Envy 15t...I really wished they would have changed the model name to something completely different since the prefix is the same as their old model...stupid....

Get a regular 2.5 inch SATA SSD. Very slightly slower than an mSSD but still way faster than anything else. Trying to configure the mSSD as boot drive is a huge hassle.

There is nothing wrong with your computer. The flash to F.64 went fine, however the new BIOS can't locate the boot record on the hard drive. Please back-up the hard drive, including all your personal data using a Linux LiveCD and external hard drive, or connect the drive to another working computer.
Next, use the HP Recovery Media you created when you first setup the computer to return it to a factory like state. • Envy 15t J000 Quad edition CTO BBV error?

HI everyone! I just got a envy 15t, and decided that I'd rather replace the standard hard drive with a SSD. I created recovery media (wasted 2 disks that failed to complete), and was going through the process of booting the SSD from the recovery media when I got "restoration Incomplete". It got through copying information from the 6 disks fine, and was (I think) in the process of installing drivers and the like, when it stopped. It gave me 3 options; save log, details, and retry. retry does nothing, as I insert the disk as instructed, but they fail to be recognized as recovery media. I've installed everything twice, and it failed twice, and the diagnostics on the computer return PASSED when run on the SSD.
The following is what came off the details page, with removal of time code. Help??!! HP phone Reps have no clue as to whats going on.
    ChkErrBB.CMD : Detect some error during PININST_BBV.
    check C:\system.sav\logs\BurnBootWarn.log
    or, check check C:\system.sav\logs\BurnBootMerge.log
Critical error condition was detected at BBV1...
Refer the following file if exists.
            - c:\system.sav\logs\BurnBootWarn.log
            - c:\system.sav\logs\BurnBoot.log
Switch to 2ndCap's WinPE and show [Recovery Manager]'s Incomplete dialog.
because RM's dialog can't appear on [Start] screen in Win 8 enviroment.
customer may not notice RM already shows error dialog.
There migt be unexpected reboot during BBV Clean or Last....
The process will cause CTO panic becuase the image might not be normal...

Hello, no I ended up just purchasing Windows 8 Pro and installing a fresh version on my HP Envy Touchsmart j053cl.
I installed a new SSD in the laptop and the recovery disks simply wouldn't get past the BBV error, even after I reset the default settings on the BIOS.
I spoke with HP support and they told me the recovery disks would not work with an SSD, which was really disappointing, as I've owned many HP laptops that have supported SSD easily. They also wouldn't send me a free new set of recovery disks because mine may have been broken.
I really love my Envy 15 and think HP should always keep the customer who wants to use SSD's in mind, as they are fairly common with users who own quad core Intel laptops. Thanks.

  • WLAN for HP ENVY 15t-j100 Quad Edition Notebook PC

I just purchased a HP ENVY 15t-j100 Quad Edition Notebook PC with Windows 7 (February 2014).
It comes with 802.11bgn 1×1 WLAN module, which is not satisfactory so I would like to upgrade the WLAN to an Intel 7260ac.
According to the user manual, the following two parts are the only WLAN whitelisted by the BIOS:
    #1:
    Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 3160 802.11 ac 1×1 WiFi + Bluetooth 4.0 Combo Adapter
    Spare part number = 710662-001
    #2:
Intel Dual Band Wireless 7260 802.11 bgn 2×2 WiFi + Bluetooth 4.0 Combo Adapter
    Spare part number = 717384-001
I cannot find any of these models anywhere! I do find a 710661-001 on Amazon (which would be great if the BIOS accepts it! and good price too at about $35).
Could someone tell me if I can put this WLAN card (710661-001 on Amazon) or where to buy the HP approved #1 and/or #2 card listed above?
    Thank you!

Hi Arnaud_, welcome to the HP Forums. Unfortunately if the parts are not in the user manual I cannot guarantee they will work. You can try to buy it from HP PartSurfer.

  • HP Envy 15t k000 Battery Issues

I recenty got an HP Envy 15t k000 from HP home store. Customized to "4-cell 48WHr Lithium-ion Battery,"  I have been wondering if I upgraded from 41WHr to 48WHr I should be getting more battery life?
Can someone tell me how much is the difference in battery life? The upgrade to 48WHr was $10 more.
When I inserted the battery, it wasn't rigid in the place. It moves a little which I find annoying. (I guess its normal but if there ever is a new battery compatible for the model, the design fix would be appreciated).
Also, the battery's model is VI04 and I found it here on Hp website batteries page. So if 48WHr is VI04, which one is for 41WHr? Because VI04 is the only one campatible with HP Envy 15t k000.
Is there any extended battery (the big battery) for the mentioned model? Will there ever be one? It will be great if there is any extended battery for this model.

based on the specs, a 48 WHr battery will provide about 17% more energy than a 41Whr battery.  So if you currently get 90-minutes from a charge, the upgrade will provde an additional 15-min and stretch it to 105 under similar usage conditions.
Just multiple your current cycle by 0.17 to see how much time you would gain.

  • HP envy 15t trackpad is worthless K0B71AV

    Hello,
Just opened up my new laptop and the trackpad is completely unusable. It skips around, it stops responding, and pretty much does everything I don't want it too. I'm upgrading from an old HP laptop that had a perfectly fine trackpad, but this is just a nightmare. Also I noticed that the keyboard is flexing quite a bit as I type this, but the trackpad is my main concern. My model number is K0B71AV HP ENVY 15t ultra slim quad, running Windows 8.1. I'm terribly disappointed in this laptop so far and I am hoping something can be done so I do not have to return it.
Thanks to anybody who can help me!
    -Alex

    Alex & Huffer,
I'm experiencing the exact same problem with the exact same model.  I have already tried the following:
     - Adjusting all of the settings in the mouse applet within the Control Panel.  Sensitivity, SmartSense, gestures, etc.  I've adjusted all of them, and nothing has eliminated the problem.
     - Changing to alternate trackpad drivers for Windows 8.1.  I tried a couple of generic Synaptics drivers, and those were even worse.
If this is widespread, I'm going to guess this is a driver problem.  Any more suggestions?

The previous models had msata support, but the ENVY 15t - q100 (the one with no dvd drive) has the space for a msata drive, even with the screw hole but they remove the slot from the board. This is a $900 laptop, why they did that?

  • Boot Fail after latest BIOS Update on Flex 2-15D

    Hi everyone,
I have a severe problem (I guess) after the latest BIOS Update. Windows 7 freezes during startup.
I own a 64-bit Lenovo FLex 2 15D with AMD A6-6310 and R4, 4GB RAM and a SSHD (8GBSSH). I purchased it without OS and installed Windows 7 - which worked fine so far.
I yesterday updated the BIOS with version 9FCN23WW (for Win7 and Win8), the latest BIOS update. A mistake, it seems.
After Reboot, I first had to disable Secure Boot in the BIOS, because it would not let me boot at all. I figured out how to get into the BIOS-Setup to disable this (press Enter 2x, press Tab when in the Boot Menu to access the "Apps Menu", then "SETUP" - just in case this helps someone).
Now Win7 begins to start up, but freezes during the startup process (the splash screen with the win flag freezes and looks a bit strange. I used the "protected mode" Windows Startup and saw that the process always hangs when loading "amdkmpfd.sys".
That is basically it.I guess I have to find a way to re-install the previous version of the BIOS, but I have no idea how!
    Any idea?!
Now about what I did to fix this (poor, but I tried):
If I try to start from a Win7 installation CD-ROM (actually it is one for Dell PCs, but I guess that is not the problem) and press a key to boot from CD, Windows loads files, shows "Starting Windows"  and at a certain point again just freezes. When I -do not- press a key, WIndows Boot Manager shows up and mentions that "Windows failed to start (etc.)" "File: \EFI\Microsoft\Boot\BCD" "An Error occurred while attempting to read the boot configuration data."
I can't even boot into Linux on a USB stick, because the Windows "Error Recovery" (translated from German, sorry - my guess) won't let me when I try (just offers to boot to Win7 in protected mode - it could be that it fails immediately and jumps back to Win Startup).
Thank you for every bit of help!
    Tristam
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I found our the solution to my problem with the help of SebastianLenovo ...
In the BIOS / Boot Mode, I switched back from "UEFI" to "Legacy". That's it. That simple. The BIOS Upgrade routine just did not transfer that setting from the old BIOS to the new.
Given the fact that 1. I did not change that setting, so it is default and 2. it would have been easy to avoid, if the BIOS update routine would be well programmed to transfer the current BIOS settings to the new, upgraded BIOS ...
Anyway a strange situation that a 64-bit system has a 32-bit BIOS. Actually no Linux distribution (except FatDog and rescue systems) are able to deal with it - Linux only running as a Virtual Machine under Windows. I think this is inappropriate and really taking away a part of the fun if you can not run this laptop as a dual boot system.
Thanks to Sebastian and I hope this solution helps someone in the future...
    Regards, Tristam.

  • ENVY 15t-j000 Quad Edition Hard Drive Thickness

I'm looking to replace the hard drive in my ENVY 15t-j000 Quad Edition with an SSD. HP's site currently does not list the thickness the the preinstalled hard drive. I would prefer to get an ssd that does not leave any extra unused space in the computer. What is the thickness of the hard drive installed in the ENVY 15t-j000 Quad Edition so I can upgrade to an equally sized ssd? Thank you.
