Failed update of X2250 ILOM - now a brick?
Hi all,
Unfortunately I decided to update the SP software on a X2250 server to the latest version 2.1.21 this afternoon and it failed - badly. The flashing of the SP software failed and now I can get nothing in the way of video from the server and the 'fault' light is lit.
Does anyone have any ideas how I can persuade the SP to at least boot the into BIOS and load the Tools & Drivers CD?
There are several jumpers on the motherboard around the Service Processor and BIOS chips but I can't find any documentations on what they are for.
Any suggestions would be most welcome as I'm a bit of an embrassing position...
Many Thanks in Advance,
Nick Smith
I too would like some information about the jumpers and how to recover from a 'fault'.
I was trying to reset the SP admin password. Since there is no documentation on the subject (go ahead, look, the Sun manuals all lie about a supposed "procedure" to reset the password; it is non-existent), I tried trial and error. Way to go Sun, now the server comes on with all three lights lit: green power, white indicator, and orange fault.

After failed update of itunes yesterday, now will not run with error message "MSVCR80.dll not found" APSDaemon.exe will not run. itunes will not now run.
Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
iTunes
Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall move on to the next item)
Bonjour
Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.
Please note:
Some users may need to follow all the steps in whichever of the following support documents applies to their system. These include some additional manual file and folder deletions not mentioned above.

IPhone 4 Failed Updated to iOS 6, now stuck in Recovery Mode
I plugged in my iPhone 4 to update it to iOS 6. After the update was completed, it restarted and now shows only the iTunes Connect screen. Plugging the phone in now, iTunes says that the phone must be restored. It fails to restore every time. I've tried like 1000x.
Help would be appreciated. And please, assume I know nothing and have tried nothing. I'm pretty desperate to get my phone restored, even if for only long enough to get some of my information saved from my device.
Thanks.Disconnect it from the computer's USB cord. Press and hold the home button while plugging it into the computer's USB cord. Continue holding the Home button while iPhone starts up. While starting up, you will see the Apple logo. When you see "Connect to iTunes" on the screen, you can release the Home button and iTunes will display the recovery mode message. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808
Then you can restore your phone: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414 -

I was today invited to upgrade my iTunes when I logged on. Update failed. Every time I now try to open iTunes I get error messages. Second message reads "iTunes was not installed correctly. Please re-install iTunes. Error 7. Windows error 126". I now can't sync my iPhoneand I am worried that if I re-install I will lose all my contacts, calendar, notes, etc.
I too had this problems (Windows 8.1). A few weeks ago after the previous update before this version of itunes, I'd had a problem with the itunes store crashing and at that time I followed instructions to copy QTMovieWin.dll to the itunes folder, which fixed the store crashing.
Today I fixed the problem by:
Delete QTMovieWin.dll from C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes.
Uninstall ALL Apple Software using Control Panel / Programs and Features. I uninstalled:
iTunes
QuickTime
Apple Mobile Device Support
Apple Application Support
Apple Software Update
Bonjour
Delete the folders:
C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes
C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple
Restart the computer
Reinstall QuickTime
Reinstall iTunes
Everything works GREAT now, including the iTunes store. You will not lose your media files, I got everything back, all my settings, playlists, etc. -
I just updated my iTunes and now I get a message that the application has failed to start because MSVCR80.dll was not found. What happened and how do I fix this? I can't access any of my music now.
Click here and follow the instructions. You may need to completely remove and reinstall iTunes and all related components, or run the process multiple times; this won't normally affect its library, but that should be backed up anyway.

Keynote update now MBA Bricked?
Hi All
Awoke this morning to a couple of updates being notified on my 2011 MBA. Its the new Keynote update and I think Safari.
The update started but has now been stuck at Software Update, Installing2 items, running package scripts..... since 0800 this morning, its now 1230.
Is there anything I can do to recover? else I have a brick (albeit a very nice looking brick!)
thanksok sorted. Had to hold down the power key for 3 econds (didnt know this much, doh) then load up the software updates one at a time to see which was causing an issue. Neither were. So I am now all up to date and its looking good. Phew.
I had called applecare to get the above and despite being outwith the90 days the very helpful chap talked me through the above. I was offered applecare for 3 years (with education discount) at £139. but declined for now as it is so close to christmas.
Thank you apple I am delighted with your response today. -
IOS 6 update didn't finish - iPad now a brick
I updated my phone and iPad by connecting to the computer with the USB. My iPhone 4S update went smoothly, but my iPad (3) stalled when the progress bar was at 1/3. It han't moved in hours. I attempted to put in recovery mode by holding the home button down whle re-attaching to the computer, but it simply returnd to the screen with the progress bar and stops at 1/3.
The iPad appears to be now a brick.
Any ideas?
Daveranjanrocks
I succeded by:
1) disconnecting and turning off the iPad
2) plugged the iPad back into the computer
3) press and hold the top and home button until the iPad said to connec to iTunes
4) launched iTunes and updated, then restored the entire iPad
5) whewww!
I THOUGHT I tried this before, but the second time I tried it on another Mac (but suspect that had nothing to do with it). I may not have held the two buttons down long enough the first time to get the message on the iPad.
Good Luck!

Basically headline says it all, my phone is in recovery mode following a failed update through the phone and I want all my photos back. I have already read the "iOS: Unable to Update or Restore" and it indicates that when restoring through iTunes, you lose all data on the phone. I have checked my iCloud (I am a Windows7 user so uploading does not happen automatically, as I unfortunately just figured out) and it only will upload my past 30 days of photos and contacts, inline with what I've read about the cloud only storing 30 days of your past data. I really would like to get all of my photos off of my phone, I had photostream activated and most were in that stream. Is there anything I can do? I don't know what operating system is on there currently, but I have always updated my phone succesfully until today when this happened, so I'm assuming whatever is most up to date until today is the OS it has. Thank you!
When your phone is in recovery mode, it's like it crashed. The only way that you can get it out of recovery mode is by restoring, and this erases all your data as well.
You can believe what you wish by "reading all over the internet". This is Apple's technical support forum. We do know what we're talking about.
since you have very important photos on your phone, why haven't you been importing them to your computer as soon as possible after taking them? This is how the phone is meant to be used. Keeping critical data on only a device which can be easily stolen, dropped and broken is just plain foolish. Also, did you not back up your phone (as you should be doing with any computer) before attempting any operating system update? As you've now just painfully learned, updates do not always go as planned.
I'm sorry for your data loss, but let this be a very important lesson. BTW, when was the last time you backed up your computer? I'm sure you have important data on your computer. Hard drives WILL fail. -

I've tried installing the combined update, and it didn't help! I've tried booting into safe mode and then rebooting. I've tried to delete all public files and turn file sharing on and off, however it was off before anyway.
All possible solutions i've found have failed, would appreciate any help as I'm very stuck with this!Do you have another Mac or access to one? Could use the optical drive of the other Mac in Firewire Target Disk Mode.

Help.I uninstalled ios8 using the directions on the web site and now all my apps, mail are gone.I backed up to iTunes first but when I try to sync to get everything back,it starts and then says it has failed. What do I do now.Thanks.Jane
The first time an iPhone is connected to iTunes that is used to sync with another iPhone or iOS device, you are prompted to transfer the backup for the other iPhone or iOS device or to set up the iPhone as a new iPhone.
The former does as provided - it transfers the backup for the other iPhone or iOS device to the iPhone replacing all data on the iPhone that is included with the backup being transferred. The latter does nothing allowing you to make your various selections for the iPhone sync preferences with iTunes.
This is designed to be done right away with a new iPhone.
If you don't have a backup for the iPhone with iTunes on your computer and don't have an iCloud backup that hasn't been updated since choosing to transfer the backup for your iPod Touch to the iPhone, the data that was on the iPhone is gone.
