Failed Update - Windows 8.1 Update

I purchased a new laptop in March running Win. 8. I updated to 8.1 and then the latest update. I downloaded drivers for my Photosmart 7500 and Officejet 6500A Plus E710n from the HP website. Everything works fine, but when I checked my update history, I have over 400 failed attempts to install something. I'm  getting at least 30 a day. My officejet appears to be OK. The printers are set up wirelessly. I also have a Macmini and my printers are connected via USB. These are the messages in my update history.
"Hewlett-Packard - Imaging, Other hardware - Null Fax - HP Photosmart 7520 series"
and
"Hewlett-Packard - Imaging, Other hardware - Null Print - HP Photosmart 7520 series"
Installation Status: Failed
Hewlett-Packard Imaging, Other Hardware Update released in November, 2009
Error details: Code 80070490
I contacted the Microsoft forum, but they haven't replied.
I don't know if you can help me. It's probably a Microsoft issue.

I thought I sent you a reply, but I can't find it. Thae document you sent from Microsoft didn't work. I followed all the directions and when I got to the command prompt and entered the command, hit enter, tried to enter the next command and nothing happened. The directions were to enter both commands hitting the ENT key after each one. Nothing happened and when I tried to exit, again nothing happened. So, it didn't work. I guess I have to deal with all the failed updates for my printer. At least the really important updates are woking OK. I guess all the HP Photosmart 7520 failed updates I'll just have to treat as nuisances.

  • Satellite P855-108 - PC health Monitor fails to update - Windows 8.1 update

    Hello,
today updated to win 8.1 from a one year old windows 8, everything went fine
Then I followed Toshiba recommendations for updating the tools but despite doing exactly as explained the flash cards(and the functions buttons) are not functioning, they worked perfectly in win 8!
_The only utility that fails to update is PC health monitor,_ the version installed is 1.9.04.6402 and the one from support site for win 8.1 is 1.9.09.6400, when trying to install it fails with error message "not support"
When trying to open the installed health monitor there is also an error message "can`t get the bios type".
This is strange and every other utility recognizes the latest bios version 6.70 an the laptop`s details an serial
I tried all I could think about, installed flash card support tool from win 8, enabling and disabling in the bios, even installed VAP for win 8 but no change
Any help would be highly appreciated
Latest system driver and other tools are installed
    Thanks in advance

Sorry for taking space on the forum,
_In case anyone is facing the same problem I managed to find a solution by my self,_
*it was caused by the old version of PC health monitor,*
    uninstalled, updated to latest version
Now Function key utility and everything works as supposed, _the latest Health monitor also works fine_

  • Ifolder 3.8 client fails on windows 7 after updates

I installed ifolder 3.8 client on a new windows 7 home 64-bit pc and it worked fine until I ran windows up date.
Now I get a "Novell ifolder core has stopped working" message when ifolder tries to start.
I get the following information in the problem details.
At this point, ifolderapp.exe is running, but simias.exe is not.
It looks like simias is crashing when it starts.
I have removed and reinstalled the ifolder client at least three times, and the same result occurs.
This looks very similar to the problem reported earlier with XP SP3

    Hi
Also can you provide the client version and have any error messages or
    screenshots would help.
There was an iFolder update in late November, if this isn't installed,
    have you tried that?

  • My computer just updated Windows 7 (23 updates) and rebooted, and since then Firefox will not open.

There are no error messages, it just won't start. It does not show up in the task manager. I have rebooted, I have tried starting from the taskbar, the desktop, and the folder. No luck. I downloded Firefox 5 to see if that would help and the program ran after the update, but once I closed it, it would not start again. Help! I need my bookmarks and cookies!

I had the same problem. I just downloaded firefox again, and that fixed it.

  • Firefox greying out and hanging queit often (Firefox not responding appears a lot) - particularly on Facebook, but not exclusively. Iam using 3.6.13 and fully updated, windows vista fully updated.

really described it as best I could in the question, addittionally:
sometimes it will not come back at all and I have to close it via the task manager.
If it does comeback it can take a minute or more, it is happening so often and becoming so damed anoying that I am contemplating uninstalling it and using a different browser - not much option though as I would never use I.E. don't want google (chrome) snooping on my data and Opera is just functionally crap!
Any help suggestions to this would be welcome - no I'm not going to upgrade to FF4.0 Beta - I have never wanted to be a guinea pig !

Try turning off your Anti-virus scanner as well as disabling all add-ons in the Firefox. Does that change anything?
Also, clear the Firefox cache using Tools > Clear Recent History > Select "Everything" for time range, and click "Clear Now".
    Then try.
    Cheers

  • Windows 8.1 update Developer Preview from Microso...

If i update Windows 8.1 update for Nokia Lumia 925 from  Developer whether it affects the warranty of the device.
If any problems whether  nokia will support us. I have device having warranty for another 9 months.
If i update it now whether we will get offical stable release once it is rolled out
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

The word from Microsoft is that it may void your warranty so there is no guarantee as to whether it will or won't, it is entirely at your own risk. Nokia says it will likely void your warranty but again that isn't confirmation that it will void the warranty. I have yet to see a case of warranty service being refused on a device running a developer preview.
If you update now you will be updated to the official consumer release and the Nokia Cyan update, probably in June.

  • Update windows 7

Dear all, U just updated windows  7 (automatic updates) and now I have this strange "view", the bar (IE and the regular toolbar) are looking so weird (outdated). How is this possible? Is this normal or is there something wrong?
Its an old looking toolbar (white/grey, old style) and not the black regular one.
FOr some reason I can not attach a picture at the moment...
    I uploaded it here: http://nl.tinypic.com/r/28lbclt/8

This may be caused by services or software conflict after Windows update, I suggest to perform a clean boot.
A clean boot is performed to start Windows by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This helps eliminate software conflicts that occur when you install a program or an update or when you run a program in Windows 7, or Windows Vista.
You may also troubleshoot or determine what conflict is causing the problem by performing a clean boot. Here is the detail:

  • Failed to Install The New Preview Build. Installation Failure: Windows failed to install the following update with error 0x80246007: FBL_AWESOME1501 9926 Professional.

    Hello,
I'm having issues upgrading my Windows 10 Technical Preview installation build 9879 to a newer build that's become available late January 23rd.
I am installing the new upgrade in a Hyper-V virtual machine and get the following error:
Failed to install the new preview build, please try again later. 0x80246007
    What could be the problem?
Previously I've had messages that Windows cannot be upgraded on a computer with less than 2 Gbyte of RAM. That's a Hyper-V VM with dynamic memory and I was highly surprised to see this error; never had this before. Had to set 2048 Mbytes as a minimum memory
for this VM. Now that I have this 80246007 error code.
When looking up System log, the following error messages are listed multiple times:
Installation Failure: Windows failed to install the following update with error 0x80246007: FBL_AWESOME1501 9926 Professional.
The errors are returned for the Event ID 20 by WindowsUpdateClient
in task category Windows Update Agent..
    I reviewed the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsSelfHost\Applicability
registry key as suggested in Windows
Insider stuck on build 9841 - "No new preview build was found", and here is what it shows:
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsSelfHost\Applicability]
    "BranchName"="fbl_awesome1501"
    "ThresholdRiskLevel"="low"
    "ThresholdOptedin"=dword:00000001
Note, when attempting to install the downloaded update from a native boot, installation starts with no errors.
However, since setup is not supported for a natively booted VHD files, it does not proceed further showing a message that installation on virtual drives is not supported.
Looks like Setup is having problems installing in a Hyper-V virtual machine.
Possibly, some ESD files got corrupted during downloading? Is it possible to remove them and re-download missing files? (I, however, noticed that Windows seems to re-download upgrade files after you restart 9879 and attempt to check for a new build.
Any clue why installing under VM causes 9926 to fail?
    Thank you in advance.
Well this is the world we live in And these are the hands we're given...

    Hi,
According to the error message, this problem seems like update package installation failed during system upgrade.
You can try to remove ESD file which locate at boot of C drive and upgrade the system again for test.
On the other hand, make sure the system 9879 installed all Windows pushed updates before system upgrade.

    Hi,
I am using S230u (i7 / 8GB / 500GB+24GB) with Windows 8 Pro and some time ago I bought Media Center pack (the last part may be important). When I first set my laptop up I chose Polish language, as this is my native language.

I do not suppose the problem is related to Lenovo in any way, but maybe someone else had the same issue.
I am not sure what those mean and searching for 0x80070490 does not show useful results. I have tried the recommendation from:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/958044
But after running both DISM commands multiple times, it does not solve the issue. Also, I am wondering if the "Polish ESD Bundle Parent" is just the first part that was checked or if this may be specific to Polish language?
I tried changing the default language for my user and for login screen + new users to English, but that did not help.

Just an update, in case someone else comes across this issue.
I decided to reset my laptop to factory settings (using "Remove everything and reinstall Windows" from settings).
After that, I performed all the updates of both Lenovo and Windows updates. Then I was able to update to Windows 8.1.
I did not find a way to resolve it without full reinstallation.

  • Installation Failure: Windows failed to install the following update with error 0x800F0922

    Hi folks,
I have a HP Elitebook Folio 9470p.  It came with Windows 8, and I installed it on my corporate domain.  I was trying to do some Windows updates so  I could upgrade it to Windows 8.1, but it fails installing the updates, whether or not I try
to install them one at a time or all of them.  It has about 18 updates it needs from security updates to a .net framework update.  I run Symantec EP, and disabled it, checked for driver updates for things like display and networking and they are
    all up to date.
I'm at a loss as to what to do.  It gives this error in the event log for each file, Event ID 20.
Installation Failure: Windows failed to install the following update with error 0x800F0922: Security Update for Windows 8 for x64-based Systems (KB2862152).
This is the example for KB2862152, but it gives the same error for every one.  I've tried to auto fix for Windows update issues and it fixed a couple of the issues, but not all of them, and provides no other help.
I also deleted folders and files from the SoftwareDistribution folder as well, to no avail.  Any ideas what I can do to get whatever updates it needs, so I can fully patch it, and upgrade it to Win 8.1?
    Thanks for any help!

Hi MM. Mr Kywildcat and Vegan Fan,
GOOD NEW ! At this time, my issue is solved. The only black side is "how ?" : I hope that we will get a response some day ; however, and for in information  pnly - hoping this could help someone - I resume some actions which allowed this the happy end
    1) about installing 8.1 : I wanted to be sure that gain/pain ratio was positive, and that upgrading from a (potentially) damaged system would'nt produce something looking like a new Win 8.1, but difficult to maintain and keeping some negative potentialities.
    2) I was influenced by the fact that this
0x800F0922  error acted as "a serial killerror", whose root cause could be a unique update error at reboot time concerning several (>20) packages, so I decided to test some manual upgrades.
    3)   Manual update (i.e. manual download and maunching of .msu packages) of the 2 following packages
(whose update previously failed on a Windows Update) was successful : .NET Framework version 3.5 for  x64 (KB2898866) and Camera Codec Pack Windows 8 for x64 (KB2899190)
    4) So I decided to try Windows Update on a selection of packages, first : those concerning .Net Framework 3.5 and 4.5 (that is: KB2898866, 2901120, 2898865) --> Successful !
    5) finally, I selected almost all other packages, with some exceptions wich I (think to) have no need for : KB2871690, 2904659, 2843630. To be complete, here is the list of pakages updated one time at all :
    KB 2892074, 2893294, 2893984, 2909210, 2912390, 2916036, 2889784,2903938, 2911101, 2913152, 2917499
    --> always succesful.
I am not a specialist, but I uess that this 0x800F0922 error hides another problem which is globally "H-RESULTED"
to all updates pending in one update operation with reboot. This could be assumed from this CBS.log exterped from my last wrong attempts, where root cause seems not to be
    0x800f0922, but 0x80004003 :
2014-02-15 21:29:13, Info                  CBS    Could not get active session for current session file logging [HRESULT = 0x80004003 - E_POINTER]
2014-02-15 21:29:13, Info                  CBS    Not able to add pending.xml.bad to Windows Error Report. [HRESULT = 0x80070002 - ERROR_FILE_NOT_FOUND]
2014-02-15 21:29:18, Error  CBS    Startup: Failed to process advanced operation queue, startupPhase: 0.  A rollback transaction will be created. [HRESULT = 0x800f0922 - CBS_E_INSTALLERS_FAILED]
Anyway, thanks to you who spent some of your time to describe issues and search/ suggest solutions ; I will upgrade my system to 8.1 anyway, some of this day, when I am sure that my configuration does not hides some other problem. I thing that potential
issue remains until maybe a new KB corrects it, wrong :-) ?
And I hope that you - Mr Kywildcat - can upgrade your system on "current levels" trying similar attempts.

  • Windows 8.1 update with KB2919355 keeps failing

    hi,
I'm trying to get my Windows 8.1 updated with KB 2919355 but it keeps failing with error code E0000100.
I've tried tried to resolve using the "clearcompressionflag" tool, but that had no effect. The update will install but after reboot of machine, the update fails.
I'm running 64 bit and the pc is upgraded from Win 7 then Win 8 and finallly Win 8.1.
    Please help.
    Thanks
    Marc

    WindowsUpdate.log is here:
Aha.  I think we are going to need a previous piece of the CBS.log.  This KB2919355 is so huge that it seems to have wrapped the one that you are showing us.  I.e. I suspect the most interesting piece of it will reflect what happened to produce
this event (or an earlier one of the same code 0xE0000100)

Unless that driver information is enough of a clue to help you devise a workaround?  What is that device?   You could use  WMIC (or Powershell)  to find out more.
    E.g. try
wmic Path CIM_SystemDevice where (__RelPath like "%Ven_10%") get PartComponent
I'm sure we could find something more specific but that gives you an idea I hope.
You can do a Find in your WindowsUpdate.log  for  Installation Failure:  to see that there is a definite pattern to the failure reports:  4 install errors and 1 download failure then 1 install error and 1 download failure.
So I suspect that the last ones, for the download failure, or even the quick install error is not going to be as interesting as the first of a set of 4.  E.g. those later ones may just be the server throwing up its hands and saying: Go
    away! (figuratively speaking, of course.)
Of course I may be completely off the mark here with such speculation, so you may prefer to leave it to Darrell to choose what he wants to look at.  Thanks for both diagnostics. I think they will help.

  • Windows 8.1 Update 1 (Spring update KB2919355) - User Profile Service failed the sign-in

After installing Windows 8.1 Update 1 (Spring update KB2919355), our enterprise  Windows 8.1 image began getting User Profile Service failed the sign-in. Uninstalling the update fixes the issue. The update somehow modifies the default user
profile causing write access issues which is evident in the event viewer.
    Things I tried:
    1) Re-applying parent permissions to Default profile folder
    2) Disable CopyProfile before sysprep
    3) Creating a new image with Windows 8.1 Update 1 ISO from Microsoft
None of them seem to work. I believe update 2919355 will be needed to continue getting future Windows 8.1 update. I might try looking at the specific files that the User Profile Service is complaining about but it seems to be random.
    Anyone else experience this?

"Place your rig specifics into your signature like I have, makes it 100x easier to understand!"
I should have included this. It does it on all of our machine builds (we have a few) including VMs.
    "try this http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2919355
    if
a fresh manual install does not work use
    the tools here"
Did all of this already at the request of MS and also ran a trace utility they sent me and submitted the results. The Trace revealed nothing remarkable to the analysts that gave any indication of what is causing this.
MS has acknowledged that there is a problem and for me it has to be an enterprise fix, not an individual run around to every computer. I  have tried removing everything non-Microsoft and will try removing APP-V 5. If it works I will let them know, but
we can't operate the enterprise without APP-V so this wouldn't be a solution. The trouble is that it is so random that we thought we had it fixed by removing AV and were going to start looking in that direction and it turned out that if you just kept hammering
it with the logins that it would still manifest, as it has done with everything I have tried so far.

Recently I went to windows 7 to do a system upgrade but failed and was told to update the bootcamp drivers. I installed boot camp5 but seem to be the wrong version and change to boot camp 4 which was updated okay. However I still cannot do the updates. Can someone advice me please? Thank you!

Be careful with Windows Updates, especially driver updates. Standard WHQL drivers can cause problems.
