That's why you want to make a backup of the registry. If you didn't make a backup, use MS system restore to go back. The only values you should remove are UpperFilter or LowerFilter - one or both may be in there and can be removed. If neither value exists, then that is probably why you can't burn and Windows is not recognizing your drive as a writable drive.

  • Error while scanning for Serial-ATA devices.

There was an error while scanning for Serial-ATA devices. I'm not sure how to trouble shoot this. I believe a secondary drive in bay 2 died.

I also have just began to hit this issue.
I have 4 2T enterprise class WD drives in a raid 1+0 (or was it 0+1) config.
    Device Model: WDC WD2002FYPS-01U1B1
One disk (disk0 in bay 2) keeps disappearing. Completely. /dev/disk0 and /dev/rdisk0 vanish.
If I look at "about this mac" / "More Info" / "Serial-ATA" I get the "error while scanning ...".
If I reboot, the offending disc comes back and the raid volumes start rebuilding.
The SMART status is (reported to be) fine.
I use the 'smartmon' tools and look at the extended SMART status and the values of the counters all looks the same as the other drives. I can run an extended offline test, which takes forever to execute. disk 1 and 3 eventually finish with success (it writes this status into a SMART log area on the disc).
Disk 2 and 0 take longer. I image this is because 2 is being read to resilver 0. Currently, I am running with disk0 absent again, and disk 2s test did not complete. It claims it was aborted by the host, so I imagine the one on disk0 will claim the same after I reboot.
My system is under extended AppleCare until 16 Jan 2011, so if I can determine that this is a disc controller error, I can get it fixed. The drives have a 5 year warrantee, and are less than 1yr old, so they are covered. I just need to figure out what the issue is.
I will now reboot and recover disk0 and see if perhaps there is anything recorded in the SMART log.
There is nothing in kernel.log specific to disk0. I include the log extract here for posterity. The "speed" volume is not raid 0+1, just striped, which is why it gets aborted.

  • SEVERE: An error occured while scanning for the next trigger to fire

    Hi All,
I followed below steps to configure Oracle BI publisher scheduler on oracle 10g database.
1.Log in to BI Publisher as a user with Administrator privileges and select the Admin tab.
2.Under System Maintenance, select Scheduler Configuration.
3.Enter the database connection information for the target Oracle database and user.
    Database Type: 10g
    Connection String: jdbc:oracle:thin://<hostname>:<port#>:<oracle SID>
    Username/Password for the database user
    Database Driver Class: oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver
4.Click the Test Connection button to make sure the connection information is valid.
5.Click the Install Schema button to install the scheduler tables.
    6.Restart the BI Publisher application.
    The Schema installed successfully.
But when I am starting the weblogic server I am getting below error and BI publisher application is not getting up.

    Hi,
This errors occurs if you have configured some schema for the scheduler and configured it on BIP, but the configured schema is no longer available.
That is why I am suggesting you to replace the current quartz.properties file with the original file that exits during installation.
Then try to start the server, and see if the server starts without error.
After that you can try to configure the scheduler from BIP console.
    thanks,
    sandeep

  • An error occurred while scanning for security updates. (0x80004003)

Has anyone seen this error:   An error occurred while scanning for security updates. (0x80004003)?
This error occurs when I run the MBSA tool either locally or remote against a workstation.  I also thought that the firewall may be the issue, it is not.  I ran the MBSA tool on the WSUS replica and WSUS upstream server and received the same results. I
have been running the MBSA tool and have not run into this probem before.   I am running SolarWinds PatchManager on the upstream WSUS server and have recently configured the upstream and downstream servers to communicate, I imported
the certifcate from the WSUS upstream to the replica and noticed that after this we started having issues with the MBSA scans.  Not sure if this is related but it is the only change between MBSA working and not working.  P.S.  The scan does
work when we use the offline scenario instead of pointing to the WSUS server.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks
    bc

Yes, the log file was too large I have pasted the 2nd half after running MBSA on the server (the setting is to scan using Windows Server Update Services (WSUS) only.)  This second half of the windowslog file shows errors after running MBSA
MBSA scan time was 9:44 PM

  • Satellite A200 - Need driver for CD/DVD drive

    Hey folks.
Recently installed WXP Pro on my A200 PSAEC laptop, so I'm now dual booting XP and Vista on my laptop.
Problem is, I've got all the drivers working on XP and everything's running perfect, but when I tried to burn a DVD, Nero says the recorder can't burn DVDs. In "My Computer" the drive shows as a DVD-RW drive, but when I insert a blank DVD, it says CD Drive. The drive shows up as "TCSDcor' CD/DVDW TC-L6#2D" in device manager. I've searched around for a driver, but can't find an exact match for that drive and there's no optical drive drivers on this Toshiba site driver section. The only thing I've found is an executable file for upgrading the firmware, but it throws an error saying it's the wrong drive.
    Anyone got any ideas?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Hi
Toshiba European driver page provides three different firmware updates for Satellite A200 PSAEC series:
    TO02 for CD/DVD drive TS-L632
    TO02 - for CD/DVD drive TS-L632P
(This firmware solves some problems of the optical disc drive.)
    TO03 - for CD/DVD drive TS-L632H
(This firmware solves some problems of the optical disc drive.)
Im not quite sure what TO0$ means but I think the sign $ is only a free variable parameter (place marker).
If you want to check your current firmware then you could check it using the Nero Info Tool

  • I need an update for my DVD Drive HP & not rely on Microsoft

I am having a HP DVD problem & i tend to disagree if ya say that my DVD drive (HP DVD RW AD-7586H)  needs replacing. My dvd drive works when it wants to (Has a mind of its own). The latest update for my DVD Drive is 21/06/2006 (7+ year old way out of date driver). Ive uninstalled my DVD Drive & re-installed after bootup & that didnt do nothing & i have used quite a few programs to update my driver (Driverbooster, DriverScanner etc) & there is never, ever an update for my DVD Drive via DriverBooster, DriverScanner or my HP Suppoort Assistant. EVER. If HP can give me a BIOS update, why dont you send me a DVD Drive update via me HP Support Assistant HP????  Well i think its a bout time HP should create an update to fix all DVD problems instead of relying on Microsoft to fix it. If my DVD Drive was Windows well i'd use the microsoft Fixits, but considering its a HP DVD drive , i think HP should fix the problem, not Microsoft.
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

What you see in divice manager is the control driver for the dvd drive, what you are really needing to look at is the firmware version on your dvd drive & see if a newer firmware is available.
Generally a lot of faults even intermitant ones are more hardware than firmware, drives are very cheap though & a 2 minute job to replace if needed plus you can source a better quality drive & spec as desired.
i think KH21 is newest firmware for that dvd drive.

  • OS 9 Driver for retrofitted DVD drive

    Hello,
I have a dual CPU 533 mhz G4 with OS 10.4.10 installed. It will run classic mode and will also boot from OS 9.2.2, which is still on the hard disk.
The machine has been retrofitted with a "Super Drive," possibly made by Pioneer. It reads and writes CDs and DVDs. "About this computer" won't give me the name of a manufacturer.
The DVD drive works fine in OS X. Classic and OS 9 won't recognize it, though, presumably because OS 9 needs a driver for it.
I want to run an application that won't work unless Classic or OS 9 recognizes the drive and finds the CD mounted on the desktop.
What are my chances of finding a driver for the DVD drive and successfully installing it? How would I identify the right driver if I don't know the manufacturer of the drive?
I thought about making a disk image of the CD, in OS X, then using that in place of the CD in OS 9 or classic. I couldn't figure out how to make an image, though. Disk Utility in OS X doesn't seem to have that ability. I might have an OS 9 utility that could do it, but OS 9 can't see the drive.
Is that likely to succeed? If so, how to do?
    Thanks in advance,
    Tim

    Hey folks,
Sorry about the late reply. I hope it gets noticed, somehow.
"About this Mac" shows the following information about the drive:
    ATAPI DVD DD 2X16X4X16:
    Model: ATAPI DVD DD 2X16X4X16
    Revision: G7Z9
    Serial Number: 99B5C1520144445601SP
    Detachable Drive: No
    Protocol: ATAPI
    Unit Number: 0
    Socket Type: Internal
The markings on the front of the drive drawer are strictly generic. I haven't removed it from the case, yet. That's sort of a hassle.
Does this give any clues about how to ID the drive?
Come to think of it, I don't really remember where this drive came from.
Don Archibald wrote that the following items should appear in the OS 9 system folder.
    •Extensions Manager -
    Apple CD/DVD Driver
    •Extensions folder -
    Apple Photo Access
    Audio CD Access
    Foreign File Access
    ISO 9660 File Access
    UDF Volume Access
All are absent. I guess that would explain the problem.
I'll try to find these files and install them. I'll get back to you if it doesn't work.
    Thanks a bunch.

I'm having a problem trying to install Windows 8.1 Professional on a new Gen 2 VM. I created a new Gen 2 VM using Hyper-V Manager running on Windows Server 2012 R2 and then told it to boot off DVD drive which pionts to the ISO file that I copied to the E:
drive.  The ISO file mounted in the virtual DVD drive is the Windows 8.1 Professional x64 VL ISO that I downloaded off of TechNet. When I start up the VM to install the OS, I receive this error:
"Synthetic SCSI Controller (Instance ID 7512B228-F7BC-4DD8-B4F4-72A5B042C2E9): Failed to Power on with Error 'The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable.' (0x80070570). (Virtual machine ID 4195A398-3531-4A34-8588-D1FC3F3DD2D4)"
Basically the SCSI controller can't read the ISO file. However, the IDE controller on a Gen1 VM can read and boot from the ISO just fine. Has anyone else run into this problem? Is there a way to resolve this issue and allow me to boot the ISO from a SCSI
    controller?
Or is there a bug with the Hyper-V SCSI controller that makes it unable to boot from ISOs properly?
    -JP

    Hi JP,
In addition , please try  :
    1. copy the ISO to an not shared local folder or drive
    2. uncheck the   "enable secure boot" in VM settings .
If the issue still persists , maybe you can try to down load a new ISO file then try to boot again .
    Hope it helps
    Best Regards

  • Occasional hang at boot while scanning for PnP cards

Sometimes my media center won't boot. It hangs at:
    isapnp: Scanning for PnP cards...
This only happens once in a while (once every 10 or 20 boots). The system is an ION based system, it does not happen on my desktop system? Anyone seen this behaviour? Something ACPI related maybe? Thanks!

i know, but i really dont know what else to include. I dont know what log files i should be reading. Im new to Arch
EDIT: I just checked my /var/log/slim.log file and i notice every time the system fails it has the message::
    slim: unexpected signal 15
EDIT: i also get the following message in slim.log:
    slim: pam_end: system error

  • N200 DVD-Drive error & wlan problem (abg)

Hi, actually everything seemed to work out of the box for me... but then, suddenly:
I tried to watch a certain DVD (Walt Disneys Narnia, if it makes a difference) and every DVD-Program I tried refused to work. One of them was kind enough to give me an resonable explaination: It said that some CRC check failed, which could point to a broken DVD-Drive.
However other DVDs I tried (also CSS-Copyprotected ones) worked fine, I'm not much of a DVD-viewer so I only tried about 5 DVDs. Now I'm wondering if there's a tool to test my DVD drive, since I don't want to send the laptop in for nothing.
2nd. Problem is that I cannot connect to the Speedport-Router of my GF. We both have the same laptops and configuration, she can connect, while I cant. (I disabled WAP and MAC check, but still the same).
Also at home, where I've an older Netgear-Router(only WEP), it behaves strange: Sometimes I get a connection(mostly direct after startup) and some other times I don't get one. Don't know if this is router dependent or not.
    Any suggestions?
    Thank you!

    Genius Bar results:
Genius said that you get a lot of bad media out there - he tried a couple brands he had at the store, one burned, but had a little hiccup, the other burned.
He also said that they, in the first year, usually just replace the drive, and can do it that day at the store if you make an appointment ahead of time. We then recorded the issues I am having to be tied to the serial number of my Macbook for future service/warranty requests.
Since then, I haven't tried the previous media I was having issues with BUT something else has started happening - the Macbook +won't read dvd's it previously burned/verified+ - which only makes me think that somehow the drive is faulty.
So - I'm making an appointment to take in my Macbook and have the drive replaced - it's free with in the first year (I assume with Applecare would cover the first 3 years, not sure though). I had a suspicion something was up with the drive rather than it just being sub-par media.
Not going to the Genius Bar for a couple weeks yet, but if I remember I'll post back here, with results with a new drive and using various media.

  • ClamAV fails to scan for viruses in emails [CLAWS MAIL]

I've recently switched from Thunderbird to Claws Mail and ran into one small, but annoying, problem.
I want to use ClamAV + the clamav extension for claws mail to scan for viruses, however it does seem to have permission problems.
clamd is running, user and group clamav all have the relevant permissions as far as I can tell, however upon scanning my mail, I always end up with the following error:

clamd is running, user and group clamav all have the relevant permissions as far as I can tell, however upon scanning my mail, I always end up with the following error:
    Scanning error:
/home/username/.claws-mail/mimetmp/0000000e.mimetmp: lstat() failed: Permission denied. ERROR
Seems like a permissions error to me... maybe check the actual file it is attempting to scan... I know it is in your home folder, but just to be sure, you might want to check that everything is sane.
