Failing OpenGL & Mystery Wacom Int3

Ok... tried posting under other topics, but I guess I need to start my own. I have tried calling tech support (HAH!!) and I am teetering on returning CS4. So PLEASE someone from the mothership give me a sign you care...
Nvidia GeForce 8600GT 256mb downloaded the drivers last week (Driver Version: 6.14.0011.7824)
Operating System: Windows XP Professional (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 3
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU E6850 @ 3.00GHz (2 CPUs)
Memory: 2814MB RAM
Page File: 1049MB used, 3652MB available
DirectX Version: DirectX 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904)
Tech support says I am configured fine. But I need to have a compatible video card. I say based on specs it is. They say but it might not. I ask for list of "approved cards" and they can't tell me... they then tell me its Nvidia & Wacoms problem (but Autodesk works fine?) and transfer me to customer service to get me the mysterious list of approved vid cards (which I have searched for on the site - can someone point me top this?)and then cust service is reading off the side of the box "must have 1..2..8.. mb of " not even aware of what it is she is reading... then when I ask for SPECIFICS I am cut off. No call back even though she asked for my number in case we were... you know... cut...
So... PLEASE... can I find out if my card is OK for this new OpenGL stuff?
Why is my Wacom Not working?[downloaded latest drivers and called their support] It shows up all cursor function fine, except when you try to paint... NOTHING appears. (Invisible ink, perhaps? Is this a feature?)
Thanks in advance for some solid and meaningful response(s)....

DISCOVERY!!! Ok, I THINK I have it solved... NVidia Controll Panel, under the 3D settings, is a choice of either "Use the advanced 3D image settings" OR "Let the 3D App decide" well, I switched from the first to "Let the App decide" and it appears that OpenGL is fine AND the WACOM is operating normally!!!
It's been about 30 minutes of normal functionality (anew world record for me). Let's assume no more news is good news. My apologies for all the bad thoughts I had towards the great folks in San Jose and beyond... :-)

  • Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 crashes with not finding a capable play module on a windows desktop with a AMD Radeon R9 200 series board.

    I installed Premiere Pro CS 6.0 on a brand new system.
    Win 8.1,
    i7 3.4 GHz on an Asus Sabertooth
    16 Gig memory
    AMD Radeon R9 290 Graphics Board with the latest drivers and Bios.
    On starting Premiere I get the (as I noticed quite frequent appearing) error message that Premiere cannot find a capable play module and the suggestion to update my video drivers.
    I tried everything I found in this forum or on the web:
    Installed the latest drivers
    Run the program as an administrator
    Updated the Graphics board Bios
    Updated Premiere CS6
    Started Gpusniffer in CMD-mode to find out what board it found and added that to the cuda_supported_cards.txt in the Premiere directory.
    All to no avail. The app will simply not start.
    The Gpusniffers report states:

    As I invested a lot in the CS6 Master Collection I am not considering an update tot the CC version, also because the same problem occurs in that version too.
    I would be much obliged if someone has an answer that truly will work.  This problem costed me the best part of two days’ work and fouled up my workflow considerably.

    ==========
    I tried to go into display settings and disable the Intel card. (this caused low resolution which is unexceptable)
    ==========
    This makes me think it's using that graphics "card" ( probably built into mobo ? ...called 'onboard graphics ? )
    This stuff gets tricky and sometimes the only way to make windows 'recognize' the pci graphics card is to actually take it out and boot, and then put it back in...
    Then you get mssg " windows detected new hardware" and you install the drivers...
    usually bios gives you choice of using onboard graphics or not ( but this too is wanky sometimes...sorry to say ...)
    I recently ( this past year ) had a similar sort of situation but have a desktop, where its easy for me to take off side panel and pull the pci-e graphics card and boot, and get that horrible low res default screen...turn off, install card, reboot etc...
    but anyway, it sounds to me like you're notebook is using that mobile graphics driver stuff and not the radeon. Somehow you've got to make it switch to that graphics card is maybe your solution.
    sorry I dont have notebook but maybe someone else here does and can help more...
    good luck.
    ps..its always a weird fact of life...when things aren't working 'right' something has to get done fast....
    edit:
    I dont know how much you know about windows stuff, but after you disable that intel thing and get your low res screen.. you DID try to update the driver for that card using 'my computer / device manager  '   right ??

  • How can I set the resolution of my external display to 1280x800?

    Hi, I'm using a Wacom Cintiq 12WX external pen tablet display with a 24" iMac.
    The recommended resolution for this Cintiq is 1280x800. But when I go to System Preferences>Displays set the resolution of the display, the only available options for "Wacom Cintiq 12WX" are:
    640x480
    800x600
    832x624
    848x480
    1024x768
    1024x768 is my nearest option, but it has a different proportion than the display's physical shape--resulting in a slightly stretched display. Because I work with graphic design, this is not exactly desirable...
    None of the other resolutions have the same proportion as 1280x800, so a stretch seems inevitable; not even working with a smaller resolution will give me the desired ratio.
    So my question is, is there any way to choose resolutions other than those listed in the "Display tab" of System Preferences?
    I also noticed that I have the option to rotate the tablet screen 90 degrees; when I do this, the option 800x1280 becomes available, but of course it's sideways...
    Any help at all would be very greatly appreciated!

    Thank you for your help.
    I installed the update you suggested, but nothing has changed in my Cintiq 12WX Display menu in System Preferences.
    Which update ?
    The OSX update or the driver update or both ?
    Might be neccessary to reinstall the Wacom driver after the OSX update.
    And I concur with Kenichi, if all things fail contact the Wacom Support.
    That thing has to work as advertised.
    Good Luck

  • Problem calling function inside a procedure

    I have a procedure that simply calls a function, but I'm not sure how to declare it.
    When I run my script oracle returns an error:
    CREATE OR REPLACE PROCEDURE pr_entrada_close(
         var_id_entrada int)
    AS
    BEGIN
         fn_criaJobAnalise(var_id_entrada);
    END;
    ERROR at line 5: PL/SQL: Statement ignored3. AS
    4. BEGIN
    5.      fn_criaJobAnalise(var_id_entrada);
    6. END;

    As far as I know, that structure worked in at least 8.0 and possibly earlier. I actually saw something similar in production code on that version of Oracle. The actual function took several parameters, and using those paramters did a series of statements along the lines of:
    BEGIN
       SELECT 1 INTO l_var
       FROM table1
       WHERE <predicates>
    EXCEPTION
       WHEN NO_DATA_FOUND THEN
          RAISE APPLICATION_ERROR (-20001, 'Error');
       WHEN TOO_MANY_ROWS THEN
          RAISE APPLICATION_ERROR (-20002, 'Error');
    END;
    BEGIN
       SELECT 1 INTO l_var
       FROM table2
       WHERE <predicates>
    EXCEPTION
       WHEN NO_DATA_FOUND THEN
          RAISE APPLICATION_ERROR (-20003, 'Error');
       WHEN TOO_MANY_ROWS THEN
          RAISE APPLICATION_ERROR (-20004, 'Error');
    END;
    -- About 4 or 5 more tables checked
    RETURN 1;and the caller looked kind of like:
    DECLARE
       NO_ROWS_TABLE1 EXCEPTION;
       DUP_ROWS_TABLE1 EXCEPTION;
       NO_ROWS_TABLE2 EXCEPTION;
       DUP_ROWS_TABLE2 EXCEPTION;
       PRAGMA EXCEPTION_INIT (NO_ROWS_TABLE1, -20001);
       PRAGMA EXCEPTION_INIT (DUP_ROWS_TABLE1, -20002);
       PRAGMA EXCEPTION_INIT (NO_ROWS_TABLE2, -20003);
       PRAGMA EXCEPTION_INIT (DUP_ROWS_TABLE2, -20004);
       l_v NUMBER;
    BEGIN
       BEGIN
          l_v := test_tables(<parameters>);
       EXCEPTION
          WHEN NO_ROWS_TABLE1 THEN
             <do something about it>
          WHEN DUP_ROWS_TABLE1 THEN
             <do something about it>
          WHEN NO_ROWS_TABLE2 THEN
             <do something about it>
          WHEN DUP_ROWS_TABLE2 THEN
             <do something about it>
       END;
       <Continue normal processing>
    END;and, yes, <Continue normal processing> occasionally failed for mysterious reasons when more than one of the checks would have failed had the function got to them, and l_v was never ever used.
    This was one of the clevererbits of code in that app.

    The "wrong IR type" message is an internal compiler error. Try getting the all the current patches for the Studio compilers and see if that fixes the problem.
    Regarding your command line:
    Most of the options appear two or three times. You should look into cleaning up the option list.
    The -xchip and -xcache options are questionable. If you don't have a particular reason for needing them, remove these options. In the best case they might provide a small performance boost. In the worst case, they will reduce performance significantly.
    The -features option has a long list. Most of them are the default and cannot be disabled anyway.
    -features=except,rtti,export,tmplife fall into that category.
    -features=anachronisms is questionable. It allows code that was considered improper in 1991.
    -instances=global is the default
    -xalias_level=compatible makes strong claims about the program, allowing the optimizer to make simplifications that are not in general valid. (See the C++ Users Guide for details.) If any of those claims are not true, the program can fail in mysterious ways.

  • Same functions with different return types in C++

    Normally the following two functions would be considered the same:
    int getdata ( char *s, int i )
    long getdata ( char *s, int i )
    Every other compiler we use would resolve both of these to the same function. In fact, it is not valid C++ code otherwise.
    We include some 3rd party source in our build which sometimes messes with our typedefs causing this to happen. We have accounted for all of the function input types but never had a problem with the return types. I just installed Sun ONE Studio 8, Compiler Collection and it is generating two symbols in our libraries every time this occurs.
    Is there a compiler flag I can use to stop it from doing this? I've got over 100 unresolved symbols and I'd rather not go and fix all of them if there is an easier way.

    Normally the following two functions would be
    considered the same:
    int getdata ( char *s, int i )
    long getdata ( char *s, int i )Not at all. Types int and long are different types, even if they are implemented the same way.
    Reference: C++ Standard, section 3.9.1 paragraph 10.
    For example, you can define two functions
    void foo(int);
    void foo(long);
    and they are distinct functions. The function that gets called depends on function overload resolution at the point of the call.
    Overloaded functions must differ in the number or the type of at least one parameter. They cannot differ only in the return type. A program that declares or defines two functions that differ only in their return types is invalid and has undefined behavior. Reference: C++ Standard section 13.1, paragraph 2.
    The usual way to implement overloaded functions is to encode the scope and the parameter types, and maybe the return type, and attach the encoding to the function name. This technique is known as "name mangling". The compiler generates the same mangled name for the declaration and definition of a given function, and different mangled names for different functions. The linker matches up the mangled names, and can tell you when no definition matches a reference.
    Some compilers choose not to include the return type in the mangled name of a function. In that case, the declaration
    int foo(char*);
    will match the definition
    long foo(char*) { ... }
    But it will also match the definitions
    myClass foo(char*) { ... }
    double foo(char*) { ... }
    You are unlikely to get good results from such a mismatch. For that reason, and because a pointer-to-function must encode the function return type, Sun C++ always encodes the function return type in the mangled name. (That is, we simplify things by not using different encodings for the same function type.)
    If you built your code for a 64-bit platform, it would presumably link using your other compilers, but would fail in mysterious ways at run time. With the Sun compiler, you can't get into that mess.
    To make your program valid, you will have to ensure your function declarations match their definitions.

  • Still trying to understand "reflection"

    I came across the program below and can't seem to get anything to "pass".
    public class Test {
        public static void main(String[] args) {
            int passed = 0;
            int failed = 0;
            for (String className : args) {
                try {
                    Class c = Class.forName(className);
                    c.getMethod("test").invoke(c.newInstance());
                    passed++;
                } catch (Exception ex) {
                    System.out.printf("%s failed: %s%n", className, ex);
                    failed++;
            System.out.printf("passed=%d; failed=%d%n", passed, failed);
    }Can anyone offer any suggestions to help me understand what's going on here?
    Thanx to one and all.

  • Calling function problem

    Hi,
    I have created a class file in actionscript2.0
    class test
    public function test ()
    trace("This is constructor")
    public function fun_1 ()
    trace("This is first function")
    fun_2()
    public function fun_2 ()
    trace("This is second function")
    And this is the actionscript in fla
    var myObj = new test()
    myObj.fun_1()
    My problem is i am calling fun_2() in fun_1() but it is not
    executing can, any one help me out from this problem.
    Thanks,
    Sridhar B

    As far as I know, that structure worked in at least 8.0 and possibly earlier. I actually saw something similar in production code on that version of Oracle. The actual function took several parameters, and using those paramters did a series of statements along the lines of:
    BEGIN
       SELECT 1 INTO l_var
       FROM table1
       WHERE <predicates>
    EXCEPTION
       WHEN NO_DATA_FOUND THEN
          RAISE APPLICATION_ERROR (-20001, 'Error');
       WHEN TOO_MANY_ROWS THEN
          RAISE APPLICATION_ERROR (-20002, 'Error');
    END;
    BEGIN
       SELECT 1 INTO l_var
       FROM table2
       WHERE <predicates>
    EXCEPTION
       WHEN NO_DATA_FOUND THEN
          RAISE APPLICATION_ERROR (-20003, 'Error');
       WHEN TOO_MANY_ROWS THEN
          RAISE APPLICATION_ERROR (-20004, 'Error');
    END;
    -- About 4 or 5 more tables checked
    RETURN 1;and the caller looked kind of like:
    DECLARE
       NO_ROWS_TABLE1 EXCEPTION;
       DUP_ROWS_TABLE1 EXCEPTION;
       NO_ROWS_TABLE2 EXCEPTION;
       DUP_ROWS_TABLE2 EXCEPTION;
       PRAGMA EXCEPTION_INIT (NO_ROWS_TABLE1, -20001);
       PRAGMA EXCEPTION_INIT (DUP_ROWS_TABLE1, -20002);
       PRAGMA EXCEPTION_INIT (NO_ROWS_TABLE2, -20003);
       PRAGMA EXCEPTION_INIT (DUP_ROWS_TABLE2, -20004);
       l_v NUMBER;
    BEGIN
       BEGIN
          l_v := test_tables(<parameters>);
       EXCEPTION
          WHEN NO_ROWS_TABLE1 THEN
             <do something about it>
          WHEN DUP_ROWS_TABLE1 THEN
             <do something about it>
          WHEN NO_ROWS_TABLE2 THEN
             <do something about it>
          WHEN DUP_ROWS_TABLE2 THEN
             <do something about it>
       END;
       <Continue normal processing>
    END;and, yes, <Continue normal processing> occasionally failed for mysterious reasons when more than one of the checks would have failed had the function got to them, and l_v was never ever used.
    This was one of the clevererbits of code in that app.

  • Solaris 1.1.2 documentation?

    I'm looking to purchase documentation on installation and administration of Solaris 1.1.2. Any suggestions? The oldest I have been able to find on Sun's site is the 2.4 series with refrences to issues in migrating up.
    Regards,
    William Jensen

  • I get an error message NV_OGL

    I keep getting this error message that soundbooth can not find any capable video playback modules.  Any advice?

    From the Read Me file for Soundbooth CS4:
    The error seen in Soundbooth upon launch is: "Soundbooth could not  find any capable video play modules. Please update your video display  drivers and start again. If this does not resolve the problem, please  contact Adobe technical support. [Error: NV_OGL]" This error is caused  by a failing OpenGL video card driver. First, try to update to the  latest video card driver. If your computer manufacturers latest video  card driver update doesnt fix the issue, try going to the website of the  video card manufacturer and downloading the latest drivers there. If  the driver update does not resolve the problem, please contact Adobe  Support.
    Interestingly enough I am experiencing the same error with Soundbooth CS5. I see that my Radeon x1600 series drivers are from Microsoft WDDM. I'm going to ATI directly to look for an updated version.

    I
    am facing the same scenario as the original poster. This is on Server 2008 R2 SP1.
     WIndow event log entries follow the same pattern. The MAC address listed in connection with the duplicate IP belonged to the passive node.
    Interestingly, the Cluster.log begins to explode with activity a few milliseconds before the first Windows event is logged.

    It's working for me, I'm on 340xx nvidia drivers and using sddm+plasma. I even have nouveau installed in parallel (blacklisted).
    I don't know if it makes any difference, but I'm using the -ck variant of the kernel and the nvidia driver. libgl part is still the same though:
    $ pacman -Qs nvidia

  • Dbms_session.set_context from JDBC fails mysteriously, how can I trap it ?

    Hi gurus,
    Our ADF application connect via JDBC to Oracle DB and using VPD .
    This is done by executing dbms_session.set_context('vpd_new','loc_code', pLocCode) at the beginning of the session.
    Mysteriously, all loc_code succeed to be set resulting in the VPD is correctly working, EXCEPT for one loc_code, it doesn't work.
    dbms_session.set_context('vpd_new','loc_code', '010') -> works
    dbms_session.set_context('vpd_new','loc_code', '020') -> works
    dbms_session.set_context('vpd_new','loc_code', '030') -> works
    dbms_session.set_context('vpd_new','loc_code', '061') -> DOES NOT work.
    -> and it Seems to use the last value set, i.e : '030'
    Other loc_code also works perfectly.
    how can I know what happen when the application execute : dbms_session.set_context('vpd_new','loc_code', '061')
    Why does it fail ?
    Can I know what command is really sent to the Database ?
    or can it be other reason ?
    Thank you for your help,
    xtanto

    Hi,
    You can use [SQL tracing|http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/appdev.102/b14258/d_sessio.htm#i1010518] to get what exactly Oracle session is doing.

  • Spotlight mysteriously re-indexes after some failed searches?

    Well here's an odd one:
    About a week ago I had occasion to migrate a "standard" account from one Leopard computer to a fresh Leopard computer where it became the second account on the new machine (after the Admin account). This was done with Migration Assistant and completed without problems.
    The original account was inherited from a Tiger 10.4.10 installation on the old machine via a default, "upgrade", install of Leopard.
    Spotlight searches of the Home directory of that account worked just fine on the old machine. There is nothing in the Spotlight preferences Privacy list in either the old machine or the new machine. It may be relevant that the old machine was the Powerbook listed in my tag line below. The new machine is a Macbook. I've had no other Spotlight problems on either machine.
    Today I had occasion to search for a folder in the Home directory of this account on the new machine. To my surprise, it did not show in the results. OTHER stuff showed up, but not this folder.
    So I opened a Finder window and did a Command-f to bring up the search criteria and started playing around with search criteria (specifying "kind" = "folder" for example) to see if I could isolate the problem. Periodically I also retried searching in the regular Spotlight drop down to compare results. The upshot was that it seemed NOTHING in the Home directory of this migrated account had been indexed.
    And then, for no obvious reason, and about 5-10 minutes into poking around like this, I discovered Spotlight was "indexing". It had about 20 minutes of indexing to do.
    Again, I had not been doing anything in the Spotlight preferences -- just trying different search criteria in the Finder window. So why index now?
    When it finished indexing, searches for files or content in the Home directory of this account, either via the Finder window or the Spotlight drop down, all worked fine.
    NOW, why should Spotlight decide just at this moment to index this account? The account has been in heavy use on this machine for about week (although I had not had occasion to do searches in it).
    And the indexing didn't start until about 5-10 minutes into the search and re-search process trying to explore the limits of Spotlight's "blind spot".
    Does Spotlight fail to realize it needs to index a migrated account?
    Does Spotlight have some sort of fail safe mechanism where it revisits the need to index things after so many repeated searches or searches with no results?
    Mysterious indeed.

    Review the hits from a google search for socket(PF_ROUTE). IMO, something's blocking access, most likely mucked up permissions on the server; however, I don't muck with servers or AD and you might be better off perusing MS's forums for AD info.
