Failing to apply ICC profiles with xcalib and dispwin
I created two ICC profiles under Windows 7 for my laptop and external display and also two using LPROF.
When I try to activate a profile in xmonad with Intel graphics, nothing happens. I used these commands:
xcalib -d :0 .color/icc/laptop.icc
dispwin -d 0 .color/icc/laptop.icc
xcalib doesn't show any errors. dispwin outputs:
Dispwin: Warning - No vcgt tag found in profile - assuming linear
This applies to all four profiles and both displays.
At least the LPROF profiles do work fine in GIMP when set via its preferences.
Not sure if this is relevant: I quickly looked at gnome-color-manager running Xubuntu. There I opened gcm-viewer and clicked on both of its default profiles and I also didn't see any changes.
Any help appreciated!

It's unrelated to MediaTrackers. You can see faint images of what the original images details were. It's almost like the brightness got cranked way down and then it got set to grayscale. I'm obviously not using the camera ICC profile correctly.
ICC profiles are related to "color management". I.e., the process that supposedly allows you to make what you get out of a digital camera look the same as what you see on the monitor and what you see on the printer. Each device has an "ICC profile" to compensate for that device's color "quirks".
Kodak donated some of their color management expertise to Sun for Java (which also explains the bizarre class and variable naming if you look up the ICC_Profile class :-)

Could anyone please let me know how to set a ICC profile with Acrobat dlls using Csharp or VB
Could anyone please let me know how to set a ICC profile with Acrobat dlls using Csharp or VB
Cant we even use the dlls in an application?
In order to automate Acrobat, you need to have Acrobat installed. There is
nothing you can do with just the DLLs. As was already stated, Acrobat is
not licensed for use on a server, but regardless of that, it's also
not technically suitable for server use. You need to find a solution
outside of Acrobat to solve your problem.
It also seems that you don't have a good understanding of what is going in
inside a PDF file. PDF is a very complex file format, and based on
your questions
and followup questions, you need to spend a considerable amount of time
getting familiar with the PDF file format to understand how color works in
the PDF context. Reader the PDF spec, while paying special attention to the
section about color. You will find out that if you want to convert the
color space of a "PDF file", you actually need to convert the color space
associated with every single object in your PDF file. That is fairly simple
for vector graphic and text, but when it comes to images, you may have to
convert the image data. Once you have a good understanding of what it is
you need to do within the PDF file, then you can start looking for tools
that allow you to do that. Again, Acrobat and therefore the Acrobat SDK is
not suitable for this task. If you want to stay with Adobe products take a
serious look at the PDF Library, which his licensed through Datalogics (
http://www.datalogics.com/products/pdf/pdflibrary/). As you've mentioned,
there are other, non-Adobe PDF libraries that you can also use, but this is
the Acrobat SDK forum, so I won't discuss any of those 3rd party solutions.
You are wasting your time while looking for a simple solution that does not
exist. -

IPad 3 with iOS 6 fails to connect to WiFi with WPA2 and AES - any solutions available?
Hello *,
after upgrading my iPad 3 to iOS 6 it constantly fails to connect to WiFi with WPA2 and AES - hidden or broadcasted SSID - at home and at work because the device does not accept the WPA2 password. This is also the case for my iPhone 4S but both devices did work with WiFi (WPA2 / AES) perfectly with previously installed iOS 5.1.1.
I tried to downgrade to iOS 5.1.1 but it seems to be no longer possible to downgrade for both iPad 3 and iPhone 4S as the certification and signage window for iOS 5.1.1 maybe has been closed by Apple.
Does anyone know about a possible solution to connect to WiFi with WPA2 and AES with iPad 3 / iPhone 4S and iOS 6 upgrade?
Thank you very much for any help and advise.
Best regards from Germany

Additional things to try.
Try this first. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
Another thing to try - Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.

How to apply ICC profiles on all the photos in preset before printing. and user preset
Hi,
hope someone can point me to the right direction.. I have 2 questions about ICC profiles and settings in lightroom.
1.) I found that many photos that I have is a little two blue. There are thousands of photos. I would like to know if there is a way in Lightroom to "Autobatch" the changes to all those photos.
The changes are under "white balance" -> "temp" -> (need to increase by 2)
2.) I will send out the photos to print . According to the photo stores tech, I can apply their ICC (printer/paper) profiles before sending the files to them. So, it will have better match how the photos come out.
Last time I printed some photos with them, many of the come out too dark. But it looks fine on screen, and a little too red if I use my own inkject printer. I hope I correct this.
If it cannot be done in lightroom, it can only be done with Photoshop, please let me know. I will try to use other computer with PS installed. just let me know the steps.
Thanks in advance.I would sugget two UI changes:
1. The enable / disable is confusing - the toggle switch to turn it on, changes the button label to "Auto Sync" to indicate that it is on. But, this is highly un-conventional and confusing - usually a button label indicates what will happen when you click, not that it is on, and clicking it will actually turns it off - bass-freakin'-ackwards if you ask me!... (Add to it the toggle switch tooltip is the same in both cases - indicating that the switch will enable it, when actually, in one case it will enable, but in the other case it will disable...)
2. Some simple UI difference that you can't ignore but doesn't bug the ship out of you either, when auto-sync is on: maybe a red-tint to the slider draggers or something...
Summary: Once you use something other than the button label to indicate Auto-Sync is on, then you can change the button label to read "Auto Sync Off". And if the On indication has an "ommi-present" quality to it - so much the better.

Paper icc profiles with 1/2/3 or 4 in the name ??
I would like to know what the significance of the numbers within the canon profile icc paper listings has? For instance, I used the Canon Photo Paper Pro Luster paper type for a print tonight. I used Photoshop CS6 and used the Canon Print Studio Pro plug-in from Photoshop; I set media type at Photo Paper Pro Lustre. But when I chose the icc profile, there were two choices available:
"Canon Pro-1 v1-1 new<LU>1/2/3 Photo Paper Pro Luster " or
"Canon Pro-1 v1-1 new <LU>4 Photo Paper Pro Luster".
(EDIT: my printer is the Canon Pro-1 type model, using ethernet connection, color print, no color match, etc.).
I see where in the regular print driver that under "Main", "Print Quality", "Custom", "Set", that the first slider for Print Quality offers 1 or 2 (but does NOT allow 3 or 4 or 5 which are grayed out and not a choice).
So does anyone understand why there are two icc profiles for "Photo Paper Pro Luster", and
does anyone understand the Print Quality settings and how they apply or how do those work along with the 1/2/3 and 4 in the icc profile choices?
Thanks, DebraI think I found an explanation in one of the Canon manuals for the Pro-1 printer (Page 77), which I printed out last week certain pages.
It states:
Icc profiles installed for this printer(pro-1) are as follows:
Canon XXXXX <GL> <PP> 1/2 Photo Paper Plus Glossy&Gold
(1) is the model name of printer (the XXXXX part)
(2) is the print quality (the 1/2 part)
The print quality is divided into 5 levels, ranging from high speed to high quality. As the number decreases, the print quality becomes higher. This value corresponds to the QUALITY slide bar in the CUSTOM dialog box of the printer driver.
(3) is the media type. (the Photo paper.....Gold part)
This media name corresponds to the following media type:
Photo Paper Plus Glossy II N: Photo Paper Plus Glossy II N
Photo Paper Plus Glossy&Gold: Photo Paper Plus Glossy II
Photo Paper Pro Platinum: Photo Paper Pro Platinum
etc.
Page at the bottom shows 77, but I am not sure which of the several user guide/manuals that it was printed from.

Heads-up - Don't Export ICC Profiles With Illustrator Files
Hello everyone,
I have a new Motion project (yea!) and I started out creating a 56-point star in Illustrator CS4 with a specific RGB color value and saved it as Illustrator CS4 with PDF compatibility. I brought it into Motion no problem but the RGB value was changed. I futzed with it for a few minutes and figured out that the default save in Illustrator has "Embed ICC Profiles" checked. I unchecked this and saved it again and it came into Motion with the correct RGB values.
Rock on.
ScotRGB output profiles only in Lightroom. Use Photoshop.

Icc profile locations inconsistent and confusing
I apologize in advance for this long winded post, but I really would like some help, if anyone is willing to indulge me. Ive done some searching on the forum, and got some info, but I feel Im still missing something.
My issue is with printer/paper profiles, and which to use to optimize print/monitor matching. A bit of background. I have not bothered until this morning to set up my Epson 2200 printer on my Mac Pro computer. Today, I finally did so. Im running an 8 core Mac Pro, 4 GB memory, and Lightroom Rev 1.1. I downloaded the latest Intel Mac printer driver from the Epson site, and installed the driver. In addition, I downloaded the paper profile for Epson Premium Luster paper for the Mac from the Epson site (I was surprised to note that the download was not just .icc profiles, but instead, a program that installed the profiles (though the program did not say where the profiles were going, or what the profiles were called).
Next, I followed the directions for printing in Lightroom that Scott Kelby included in Chapter 8, pages 272-277 and 290-295 of his The Adobe Photoshop Lightroom Book. I was able to find 3 profiles for Premium Luster Paper when I followed step 4 on page 291 of the book, when I used the other option for Profile under the Color Management pane. The profiles were called, exactly, SP2200 Prem.Luster 1440.icc, SP2200 Prem.Luster 2880.icc, and SP2200 Premium Luster PK, and I was able to select all 3 of them by clicking the checkboxes in front of the profiles and now they show up as selections for printing. Thus far, I have experimented with the 1440 and PK profiles, and printed images using both perceptual and relative rendering intents, and Ive found, to my poor eyes at least, using the PK profile, with perceptual rendering intent, yields the best printer/monitor match (yes, my Eizo ColorEdge CE240W monitor has been recently calibrated using Monaco Optix, in case you were wondering), not great, but marginally acceptable. So far, so good. Now, here are my issues:
I am trying to understand where the 3 profiles came from, since Im now paranoid about losing them, since I think Im headed in the right direction, at least. When I do a Spotlight search on my Mac, I have been able to find the SP2200 Prem.Luster 1440.icc and SP2200 Prem.Luster 2880.icc profiles under the Macintosh HD 1/Library/Colorsync/Profiles directory. However, the PK profile is not found by Spotlight. Instead, I seem to have located the PK profile by using the Colorsync utility, doing a repair profile, and then looking at profiles. The PK profile appears to reside under the directory Macintosh HD 1/Library/Printers/EPSON/InkjetPrinter/ICCProfiles/, however, it doesnt exist as a separate .icc profile, instead, it appears to reside inside a file called SP2200.profiles, which does not seem to be openable.
So here are the questions:
1. Which of these profiles were put into place when I installed the printer driver, and which were created when I downloaded and ran the paper profile for Epson Premium Luster paper program?
2. Is there a way for me to extract the SP2200 Premium Luster PK from that SP2200.profiles file and put it in the same location as the other 2 .icc files, or should I not care? Im particularly afraid of losing this profile, since its the one that is working best for me at the moment.
Thanks for any thoughts on this.Ans to Q1 - Macintosh HD 1/Library/Printers/EPSON/InkjetPrinter/ICCProfiles/ contains installed with driver and Macintosh HD 1/Library/Colorsync/Profiles were installed by the download.
Ans to Q2 - Epson put them inside the "package" to keep them safe. You can access the package contents via the Ctrl+click or right+click context menu item labelled "Show package contents" (see attached screenshot), but I would
strongly urge you not to remove them from the package. You really don't need to care where they are because they're in the safest place. It's when folk try to get smart that the system bites them. -
How do I associate a scanner's icc profile with the TIFF files from scanning old slides?
I profiled my slide scanner and have an icc profile for that scanner. In Photoshop I can assign that profile to those files obtained by scanning slides in that scanner. Can I do something functionally equivalent inside Lightroom?
This is totally off on a tangent, so feel free to ignore:
After struggling with slide scanning on an Epson V500 for years, and generally getting lousy results (loads of chromatic aberration, poor detail resolution despite plenty of pixels, and bad color) - I decided to try to photograph them. The setup is simple. D800, Micro-Nikkor 105mm with extension tube (but any macro that goes 1:1 should do), small piece of diffusing plastic, flash backlight. And some tape to hold it all together.
Wow.
The result is razor-sharp with all the fine detail I have always missed, totally clean from CA, and with a few quick Lightroom adjustments it's there. Previously I had to bring them into Photoshop and spend hours.
The scanner is outside my window if anyone needs it... -
ICC Profiles for papers and not for HP printers.
Hello, I apologize if this has been asked a billion times before, but I have been trying to find the ICC profiles to install for a different printer.
I am not using a HP printer, but a Canon iP6000D. Let me explain, I'm a student and my class required me to buy different papers that were not for my original printer and I have to install ICC profiles for the papers I chose. My problem is I cannot find the ICC profiles for the paper I bought on the HP site, it's very unweildy and hard to find here. I had no problem finding my moab printer paper ICC profiles... HP seems to enjoy hiding their profiles.
So where would I find the iCC profiles for the Hp premium plus Photo paper that is Soft gloss 8.5x11" 200gm 80lb? I've looked all over and it seems to be impossible to find.Hi,

Date Profile with Actions and Deadline Monitoring
Hi Folks ,
I have met an requirement of Actions with Deadline Monitoring of Date Profile . I could able to see Date profile with Day Rules in the standard , But i have met an requirement for very high imp - 2 hrs , High - 4 hrs .... etc. Where in Standard Date Profile i checked all the Date Rules which were in the XML format which describes about Day only.
I m looking for an XML code for Date - DDMMYY & Time Format - HHMMSS and which supports my requirement.
Would be very thankful if any could forward any step for Actions with Date profile with Time depandant.
Thank you
Regards,
AmritaHi Amrita,
You take the standard XML code for the date time and copy as per your requirement and give the duration and time unit. Then assign to the action profile and see the action is appearing in transaction. Then go to tcode CRMC_ACTION_JOB and execute that transaction from their. Then the date you want to trigger the mail it will trigger in that time.
Thanx

ICC profiles
Formerly ICC profiles where placed in the Home map: library/colorcync/profiles. But the home map doesKees, the color profiles are still stored in your user library in
~/ColorSync/Profiles/
I can't find them back in the /library/colorSync/Profiles.
Are you looking in the System Library folder /Library/colorSync/Profiles at the top level of your system drive?
As you probably know, your User Library is hidden since Mac OS X Lion.
You can reveal it from the Finder's "Go" menu in the main menu bar:
Finder > Go
Then hold down to options-key ⌥, until Library appears in the drop-down menu. Select it and open the Library.

Camera profile with CS2 and DNG
If I embed a camera profile in a DNG file and open it in ACR for Photoshop CS2, will I have the benefit of the camera profile?
Thank you. I had seen that FAQ; I was hoping that by embedding the profile in a DNG, I would get around the incompatability.
Frankly, I don't see what's so special about a profile that they can't get CS2 to support it. Kinda annoying, when combined with the fact that CS2 doesn't support new cameras. It seems that's merely aimed at getting people to upgrade and spend $$$. Even Microsoft supports their legacy products for a few years! -
Memory profiling with Scout and Xcode Instruments
Hi,
We are doing some memory profiling on our app, its a rather big app with a lot of assets.
The tests are being made on a iPad Mini, iOS 6.1.3, Air 4.0(latest from labs).
With Scout I'm seeing a stable 69mb of ram and 27mb of vram, which is expected.
But with Xcode Instruments it rarely drops below 200mb..
Is there something I'm missing or is that correct? It feels like quite a big diff.
Thanks!

There are three good online help articles (in jdev 10.1.3) that you should take a look at:
