Failing to burn photos onto a disc

When I try to burn photos onto a USB SuperDrive it fails. It worked before, but now it says "The burn to the SuperDrive drive failed. The disc drive didn't respond properly and cannot recover or retry." Is there anything I can do?

Hi Old Toad, thanks for the reply. I've been busy the last couple of days and haven't been able to get back onto the forum until now. I'm trying to burn from iPhoto - I'm not sure how to from Finder and can't seem to find a path for that. If that works then that would save me a bit of hassle to be honest. The weird thing is that while trying to burn photos onto a disc (and wasting about 14 of them in the process) I tested it on an iTunes playlist and that worked without a hitch. I'll explore Finder, but if you could give me a few pointers it would be appreciated.
I'm using Mountain Lion on a MacBook Air that is coming up for a year old, which was bought at the same time as the SuperDrive.

I'm trying to burn photos onto a CD from Finder, but my iMac won't recognize either a CD-R or a DVD-R.  Any clues?  Nothing shows up in Finder as far as a Device, and I have a message telling me to "Insert a blank disc to begin" and that I will need a disc with at least "47.6 MB"--it's only 18 photos, and I need to burn them for a parent of a student (I'm a teacher).  I have tried several different discs, so it's not the actual CD or DVD.

Create a new folder. Place the photos in that.
From the Finder File menu choose New Burn Folder. That will appear on your desktop. Place the folder of photos  you created into that.
Now open Disk Utility and you will see that Burn Folder listed. Choose Burn from the menu.

Can I burn photos onto a DVD/CD for non-Mac users?

You can burn a plain CD/DVD by just dragging the photos there; but, that may or may not be playable by everyone. To be sure that the result would be playable in any computer or CD/DVD player, it would be better to use either one of the apps already on your system - such as iPhoto. I don't use that myself - I use other third party software - but take a look at iPhoto help. And, you could make it more interesting by creating a slideshow - also in iPhoto, or iMovie. To give it the final cool touch, bring it into iDVD to give it a polished look if you'd like. You can burn it then from any of the above.
If you happen to have Toast (an excellent burning app), you could use that as well (that is my preferred way to work). In Toast, you have multiple choices: burn a data CD/DVD for Mac only, for Mac & PC, etc, burn a picture CD, video DVD, etc, etc.

  • Burning photos onto a dvd

I am trying to burn photos onto a DVD and I always get an error that I need to remove the number of photos selected becayse the file is too big. Is there anyway to see how much space I have as I am adding images? thanks

I find the "burn folder" very useful. While in the fFinder, click the file menu:
and select "New Burn Folder." Like Klaus says, it gives you a size as you populate it. I like these because I can have a folder ready to burn when someone asks for a CD or DVD of images, or when I need to make multiple copies.
A burn folder is easy to spot because it gets a different icon (this is from OS 10.6.8):
and you can rename it anyway  your like (ex., "2012 Family Reunion")

Why can't I burn photo files to disc on my Mac. It shows "unexpected error code 0x8002006E
    The iphoto version is '09 (8.1.2 424)

The two usual causes of this messages is poor media and too high a burn speed.  Try using a different brand of disk. Verbatim is the most recommended brand and a slower burn speed, around 4X.

  • How do you burn photos to a disc so that the titles are shown and they can be used in windows?

How do you burn photos to a disc so that the titles are shown and they can be used in windows?
    do

    Are they in iPhoto?
Select the pics in the iPhoto Window and use the File -> Export command. In the resulting window, at File Name, select 'Use Title'. Also check the boxes at Title and Keywords, and they will be written to the IPTC metdata of the files. Complete the export to a folder on the desktop and iPhoto will export the photos using the Title as a Filename. Burn that folder with the Finder.

It keeps saying unknown error when I try to burn photos onto a cd. How can I fix this?

Are you using iPhoto to do this or something else?
Are you able to burn CD for other purposes, such as making a music CD in iTunes or a data CD with the Finder?
Are you using CD-Rs or CD-RW disks?
Have you tried a different brand of CDs? Sometimes this will help.

  • How can I burn a selection of photos onto a disc?

How can I burn a selection of photos from iphoto onto a disc that can be recognised in any operating system?

I was told the disc willnot work at a third party photo printer like CVS
Those are discs that are created via the Burn button in iPhoto which creates a mini iPhoto Library on the disk.  Those can't be used by an photofinisher.

  • I am trying to burn photos onto a dvd and cd but it keeps saying disc burn error. what do i do? i have already went through 5 cps and 1 dvd.

I have been trying to get these pictures off of my computer so i want to burn them but everytime i try it says disc error. i have tried several different cds. it will say finishing burn but then eject it and says burn disc error.... please help

How are you burning the photos to the disc?  Via the Share ➙ Burn menu or buy exporting the photos to a folder on the Desktop and then burning that folder to disc?
The former method creates a mini library on the disk that can only be read and use by a Mac with iPhoto.  The latter method saves just the photos to disc which can be used by any computer.
What system and iPhoto version are you using?  How much free space do you have on your MacBook Pro?
If you're using the Share ➙ Burn method can you burn a disc from the Finder?
Describe in detail what you're trying so we have a better understanding and can better offer a solution.

  • HT201788 How do I burn photos onto a DVD from iPhoto?

I am trying to burn photos/folders from iPhoto onto a DVD/CD but when disc utility opens I am unable to burn any of the items or folders onto the disc.  I thought that my optical drive was perhaps malfunctioning so I purchased a SuperDrive.  However, I am running into the same problem. The folders or pictures within, that I want to burn remain inactive.  How can I burn these pictures onto DVD/CD?

What kind of DVD disk do you want to create?  A data disk that just contains the image files or a video DVD disc that can be played on a DVD player on a TV set.  They are two entirely different types of disks and require different workflows.
If you're running Yosemite then you have iPhoto 9.6 or 9.6.1.
    For a data disk:
1 - select the photos to be burned to disk and export to a folder on the Desktop File ➙ Export ➙ File Export menu.  Set the Kind = what you want, the original file or the current, edited version.
2 - insert a blank DVD in the optical drive.
3 - drag the folder of photos onto the DVD disk's icon.
3 - drag the DVD disk icon to the Trash Bin in the Dock which turns into the Burn function:
    For a video DVD disk:
Export the slideshow out of iPhoto as a QT movie file via the Export button in the lower toolbar.  For iPhoto 9.5 and later selct 480p.
Open iDVD, select a theme and drag the exported QT movie file into the open iDVD window being careful to avoid any drop zones.
Follow this workflow to help assure the best quality video DVD:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option. This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image, launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding is good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.
If iDVD was not preinstalled on your Mac you'll have to obtain it by purchasing a copy of the iLife 09 disk from a 3rd party retailer like Amazon.com: ilife 09: Software or eBay.com.  Why, because iDVD (and iWeb) was discontinued by Apple over a year ago.
Why iLife 09 instead of 11?
If you have to purchase an iLife disc in order to obtain the iDVD application remember that the iLife 11 disc only provides  themes from iDVD 5-7.  The Software Update no longer installs the earlier themes when starting from the iLIfe 11 disk nor do any of the iDVD 7 updaters available from the Apple Downloads website contain them.
Currently the only sure fire way to get all themes is to start with the iLife 09 disc:
This shows the iDVD contents in the iLife 09 disc via Pacifist:
You then can upgrade from iDVD 7.0.3 to iDVD 7.1.2 via the updaters at the Apple Downloads webpage.

  • Having a hard time with burning photos onto a CD...

Whew! I just found the photos I thought I had deleted this morning, they're in my Finder, inside the iPhoto Library. Now I'm having a hard time trying to burn them onto a CD. The size is 232 MB and my MacBook is OSX Lepard. Would you tell me how to do it step by step? I'm not good at this stuff. Thank you in advance for your help.

  • Burning photos onto dvd, loses the original date and time of photo

I'm trying to burn some photos onto dvd, but it marks all the files 'created date' and 'modified date' as today, rather than keeping the original date and time that the picture was taken. Is there a way around this?

Looks like that error is associated with bad or incompatible media. See this thread:

  • I used to be able to burn photos onto a CD-R disc. Now I insert a new, blank disc and am told there is insufficient spac available for my selected year of photos. Even when reducing the date to ONE photo, I still get the same message. Confused.

I used to be able to burn a selection of photos from my iPhoto library onto a CD-R disc. Today I inserted a new blank disc and was shown a message that there was insufficient space for my chosen year of photos. Even when I reduced the date to include only ONE photo!- the message was the same. I am at a loss as to why, and what to do. My iMac is about 7 years old and upgraded to Snow leopard. Any bright ideas?

When burning a CD-R, the OS first creates a 'shadow' disk image that replicates what the CD will look like, then it copies that data to the CD-R itself. Therefore you need enough free space on your internal drive to create this temporary image. If your internal hard drive is full you won't be able to create the shadow, and that could be what you're seeing.
If the OP's disk is too full to permit the creation of a 700MB disk image, it's a wonder that the computer is functioning.

  • Burn photo albums to disc

I have my photos in yearly projects but I want to burn individual albums, not the whole project.
For example:  the Project is 2012, and I have multiple albums listed by date taken and subjects inside the project.  I want to burn the individual albums to discs to give to people.  I did get "burn to disc" and downloaded and installed it, which I saw recommened in a discussion, but I cannot find it in aperture.  When I go to the export feature in aperture it does not show up.
Can anyone help with this.  I am able to burn the entire project, but I want to burn individual albums inside of the project.
    Thanks,
    Karen

What I am trying to do is burn my edited photos to a DVD so that I can put them on my PC as a backup. I do backup with time machine, and I use carbonite. I do not like the way Aperture is backed up with Carbonite, but I do like the way it backs up my photos on the PC.
When I try to do burn the albums, the photo sizes are small. For example, a 3MB file may be burned as a 650KB file. That is my problem.
I have found a work around, but it is time consuming.
    Thanks for your reply.

  • Burning photos onto DVD

I have a folder on my desktop with 96 photos that I want to burn onto a dvd. I keep trying to burn it and it stops with the error code 0X8002006D. Maybe there are too many photos? Each photo is about 2.8MB in size. If that is too big, how do I make them smaller?

Looks like that error is associated with bad or incompatible media. See this thread:
