Failing to Install iTunes on Windows - getting a msi message

I keep getting the same message over & over again each time I try to INSTALL the updated iTunes. It will not allow me to sync my iPhone until this happens.
While it is uploading I get a message that says:
"The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable.
Click OK to try again, or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package 'iTunes.msi' in the box below."
So.. I go and find anything that says iTunes.msi which I've found three of on my computer.. THEN, after I select the source that it tells me to it then gives me another message that says:
"The file 'the file I select' is not a valid installation package for the product iTunes. Try to find the installation package 'iTunes.msi' in a folder from which you can install iTunes."
I've been going around in circles.
This is so aggravating. This has been happening forever.. and I'm not able to download any movies or video. What's going on?
Would someone please help me please?
I never get an answer on these 'Apple Discussion Posts'.. so can I please get a reply that will help?
Thanks.

This kind of msi problem can usually be fixed with the Microsoft Installer Cleanup Utility.
Unfortunately the Microsoft Installer Cleanup utility has been withdrawn by Microsoft because of compatibility issues with Microsoft Office so you will need to find a copy elsewhere – the installer is msicuu2.exe. You need version 3.
Google msicuu2.exe download
mydigitallife in the above search has a copy of version 3
Check for malware before installing it.
After installing, To run the program – All Programs>>Windows Install
If you get permission denied error, Try Run as Administrator – an option if you right click on the program.
Run the Clean Up utility and remove any instance you find of iTunes.
Then try installing iTunes again.

i can't install itunes for windows get error message 5

I've been having the same issues for the past year and a half. I've spent 6-8months trying to figure it out. Went to various Itunes stores with pictures on my Iphone per each step so I could relay all information that I'd come across and the personnel were less than helpful, after conversations that would sometimes last an hour between myself, employees and managers they always came back to "simply uninstall then reinstall" when I told them for the thousanth time that I've done that multiple times and my errors are happening while trying to reinstall it they act stumped and say "well then I'm not sure, I'll give you a call if I figure it out" and disappear. I've been very disatisfied at the lack of support from Apple and if Android to piece together a reletively reliable phone I'd switch to them in a heartbeat. I'll follow this question incase someone can answer this, but I don't have much faith.
BTW, wifey has Windows 7 running on the laptop and my phone syncs just fine to that and no trouble with itunes, just mine (desktop).

  • When installing iTunes 10 I get an error message "Invalid Drive: F:|". ANy advice?

All I want to do is upgrade from 9 to 10 so that I can run my ipad.
When installing iTunes 10 I get an error message "Invalid Drive: F:|". ANy advice?

    Bissley,
I have received this error in the past and it is usually caused by Windows automatically changing your external drive letters when you install. There are two ways around it; first, follow the directions provided by b noir. Second, within iTunes go to Edit > Preferences > Advanced
Under the advanced options you'll see a recessed section called "iTunes Media folder location". Although you may have set this in the past it, if Windows changed your drive letters it will no longer be valid. Default is usually "C:\blah\blah\mymusic"
Changing it just a matter of clicking "change" and finding your music folder again or change your drive letter back (if it changed at all).
If Windows is changing your drive letters, it is best to set them yourself so that everytime you plug in the devices they use the letter you assigned. Here is a link for that process:

    Hope it helps.

  • I need help re-installing itunes.  I get the error message: Install failed run preupgrade for Apple Mobile Device Support.  Any solutions?

I've been trying to upgrade to/install Itunes 10.  When trying to do so, I get the error message: Install failed run preupgrade for Apple Mobile Device Support.
Per what I saw as a response to someone else who had a similar issue, I thought a fix might be to uninstall my existing Itunes, then try to re-install the Itunes 10.  I tried that.  However, I still get the same error message.  Now, I have no Itunes.
I tried to email Apple, and they have not replied.
    Anyone offer any solutions?

me too did you get any help?

  • Trying to install iTunes on Windows 7 but error message stops installation

I tried installing iTunes 9.2.1 for Windows (64 bit) but after a few moments the installation stops and I receive a message saying "Could not access network location %APPDATA%\."
I read an troubleshooting article that told me I should delete a Temp folder found through the C drive, and the folder was not able to delete, but after opening it and deleting everything that way, almost everything was able to be deleted except for a few files and folders that were "in use" in other places (not sure if that's relative or not, but just for more information).
After deleting the folder I tried installing iTunes again, but the same message occurred. Help?

The response to "Echo %appadata%" should be
    C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Roaming
A space in the user name shouldn't be a problem, but creating a new user may fix the problem because it will create the account with default registry settings which will hopefully have the missing %appdata% information.
If you want to check on this before creating the new user, just for curiosity's sake, check the following Registry key:
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Exp lorer\Shell Folders and check the value for AppData in the right hand pane. If it's missing, then that would explain the problem. It should be as listed above, substituting the UserName with the folder name for the user under Users.
    Also check the key
    HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Exp lorer\User Shell Folders
The value of this key should be
    %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming
    More keys to check:
    HKCU\Volatile Environement (1)
    HKU\.DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVer sion\Explorer\User Shell Folders (2)
    HKU\Sxxxxx\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersi on\Explorer\User Shell Folders (2)
    HKU\Sxxxxx\Volatile Environement (1)
The values in (1) should have the full path spelled out, the values in (2) should use the %USERPROFILE% variable in the path. If the value under HKU\.DEFAULT is missing or bad, then creating a new user probably won't work either. If that value is missing, then I would recommend a clean reinstall of Windows because there is no telling what else is messed up also.

Try right clicking the iTunes install file and choose "Run as administrator".
If that option is not available, log in as an administrator and install iTunes.

  • I am trying to install iTunes, but keep getting this error message.  Help!!

Anyone ever come across anything like this?
I've had iTunes on this computer before, but tried to update and this happened.

Are you saving the installer first and then installing, or are you running the installer directly from Apple's website? Also save first.
If you're saving first and still having issues, try and use Microsoft's Cleanup Utility and then reinstall Quicktime/iTunes:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301
Make sure it's a new and fresh download from:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
If not mentioned in the articles, make a new user account in Windows and see if iTunes opens. That will tell you if there's something funky in your main account (if the new user works), or if you have a system-wide issue.

  • I am the administrator for my computer, however I have tried several times to install itunes but keep getting an error message.

Apple gives an error signal saying that I need to be an adminstrator to make changes to all the users...there is only one adminstrator account and one guest account.

It reads that I don't have enough adminstrative privileges for every account to download the program
I'd like to have a closer look at that error message please.
Generate the error message again. While the error message box is open, hold down the Alt key and hit the PrtSc key. Paste the screenshot into an image file (using a program like Paint), and save the file.
Start a reply here and click the wee camera icon at the top of the reply window. Click "Choose file", browse to the image file, select the file and click "Open". Now click "Insert file" to insert the screenshot into the reply.

  • I am trying to re-install ITunes on Windows XP.  When I do this, all I get is the "save" or "cancel" message, not "run".  What am I doing wrong?

Because of  getting the message that I had to uninstall Apple Mobile Support Device and ITunes, in order to get my ITunes to be usable, I did that.  While trying to re-install ITunes, all I get on the message is the choice to "save" or "cancel".  It will not give me the "run" choice.  What am I doing wrong?  This should be fairly simple to reinstall, I thought.
I am running Windows XP on a desktop computer using Firefox.

Thanks so much.  This definitely worked.  I'm sorry I did  not think of using IE.  I use Foxfire exclusively so seldom even think of IE as an alternative.

These ones are typically caused by underlying problems on the PC that also often cause Windows Updates to fail to install. If we can fix the Windows Update trouble, we can usually get the iTunes trouble cleaned up en passant.
Go into your Windows update and try to check for new updates. If updates install, stock up on the ones you're behind on, restarting the PC if requested to do so. After the restart, try installing iTunes again. Does it go through this time for you?
If windows updates fail to install, go into your Update History and doubleclick the failures. What alphanumeric codes appear for you? (For example, 8007000B.)

A broken Windows Modules Installer then. It's a bit of an involved fix getting past it, but we've had success here with it in the past.
First, I'd strongly suggest setting up a system restore point.
Now try the Scenario III treatment from the following document:
Windows Update Error 80070424 in Vista
Head back into Windows Update and attempt to get updates again. If they still fail, this time with an 8000FFFF error code, try the following Microsoft document:
    Windows Update error 8000FFFF
If you get Windows Updates flowing again, stock up on any you're behind on (restarting the PC when requested to do so). This may take some time and may have to be done in several batches, depending on how far you've fallen behind. Basically, keep going back to Windows Update until it stops offering you new updates.
After the updates have been installed, restart the PC one more time (in order to ensure that any pending installs requiring a restart have been resolved).
Now try another iTunes install. Does it go through without the 0x80070424 this time?
